Keyley had been nervous all day. She'd gone to see her father and he'd told her to just relax and that she'd be okay. Easy for him since he was always relaxed.
After Keyley returned home, she had spent the better part of the afternoon trying different things with her hair to no avail. So the normal pigtails would do. She settled on a chair in her living room when she realized she couldn't remember if he was picking her up, or if they were supposed to be meeting somewhere.
"Oh no! UGH! Now what am I going to do?", she asked herself.

 Tipuru stood before the door, and checked the address for the umpteenth time. He took a deep breath; wasn't asking her out supposed to be the hardest part? Of course, she'd practically done that for him, suggesting they go out to dinner, and he'd gladly agreed. He glanced down at the bouquet of white roses held in one paw, nervously shifted from foot to foot, and then stepped forward. His free paw rose, shaking slightly, but when he finally knocked on the door, it was with a confidence he didn't feel.

Keyley heard the knocking and took a sigh of relief. So she had given him the address. Good. She went to the door and stood there nervously wringing her hands. She may have been fairly straightforward most often than not, but she was still as nervous as anything. Keyley smiled as she opened the door, and squee'd with glee as she saw the roses. "Flowers?! For ME?! You didn't have to do that." It was a good thing she was already red because she began blushing like crazy. No one had ever given her flowers before.

Tipuru's blush, on the other hand, was plenty capable of showing through his white fur. "Oh, uh," he stuttered, "well, they're pretty, and you're pretty, and I thought they'd look really pretty with you, and, I mean..." Realizing he was babbling, he finally trailed off into silence. He held out the bouquet to her, hoping that would sufficiently verify that yes, the flowers were for her. And hoping that she would have some idea what to do next, because his mind had suddenly gone blank.

Keyley smiled seeing that he was just as flustered as she was and accepted the flowers, holding them close enough to smell. "They're beautiful. Thank you", she said, leaning over to give him a kiss on the cheek. She looked at him again and thought his nervous babbling was so adorable. "Would you like to come inside for a few minutes while I put these in some water? Or I can just set them down and we can be on our way. It's not like a few hours is going to hurt them any." Keyley began to feel more at ease as the moments went by. She didn't know why, but she was becoming strangely comfortable with him already. He wasn't weird or nutty or anything, just adorable and sweet. Or at least that's what she seemed to be picking up on. Either way, Keyley liked him.

At the kiss, he just blushed even more, and sort of hunched up a little, almost as if hiding from her. He'd always been shy, and getting this much attention from a girl, though wonderful, was making him want to curl up somewhere safe.
In response to her question, he just nodded and stepped forward after her, still trying to get his thoughts in order enough to speak again. Finally he managed to sort things out enough to say, "So, uh, I got an, um, a reservation at an Indian restaurant. Will that, ah, be good?" He blushed again, and pulled at the vest he was wearing, trying to smooth imaginary wrinkles. He sooooo didn't know how to deal with girls, what was he thinking, she'd never want to speak to him again after tonight...

Keyley walked into the kitchen to grab a vase to put the roses in when he finally managed to start speaking again. "Oh, awesome! I love Indian food!" She started hoping he would come out of his shell as they spent more time together. She wanted to know everything about him, even though she knew it would take more than one evening.
Arranging the roses, Keyley noticed Tipuru fidgeting and decided to start the conversation. Maybe the earlier she got the ball rolling, the more he would start talking. "I love your name. What's it mean?" A small smirk spread across her face as she watched him continue to smooth out his already perfectly pressed vest.

He smiled a bit, some of the tension leaving him when she said she liked Indian food. Well, that was one major hurdle down. Maybe he would be able to get through the evening without driving her completely off.
He blushed a bit, although not as hard, when she asked about his name. "Oh, uh, 'Tipu' is Indian for tiger," he explained, not stuttering quite as much. "So my name is, um, just a reference to my stripes. Just like my sister Toraja, she's, ah, she's named after the Japanese word for tiger."

"Oh wow! That is so neat!", Keyley said as she beamed at him. He also had a sister, which answered the next question she had. "I have a sister, too! Well, she's my half sister. And two brothers. One is also a half brother who is full blood to my half sister. Lyle is my first brother. And then there is Bobbie and Nathan, my half siblings. They're all really nice. Lyle stands out a bit, mostly because he's blue...ohmaigosh...I'm so sorry...", Keyley stood there with her hands over her mouth. Getting verbal diarrhea was a bad habit of hers.

Her babbling managed to elicit a small smile from him; clearly he wasn't the only one who was nervous. It actually made him feel a bit better, to know that she wasn't as breezy about this as she seemed. It meant... well, it meant she actually liked him. And that thought made his smile just a little bit bigger.
"Tora's my full sister, and the only family I know," he replied quietly, the stutter gone, but only briefly. "If, um, if you've got the flowers taken care of, would you like to head out?" He hesitated, and then offered her his paw.
((I thought verbal diarrhea was babbling naughty things, not just babbling in general. xp ))

Seeing him smile made her calm down a bit. She hadn't fully realized how nervous she'd really been. "I'd like to meet her sometime. She sounds nice. Oh yeah, they're good. Let's go." Sheepishly, Keyley took the paw offered and followed him out the door.
"So, what is your favorite Indian dish?", she asked as she turned to lock her door.

"Um, well, I like naan, but who doesn't?" he asked, with a bit of a nervous laugh. "But not the plain stuff, I like it more when it has nuts in it. And I like the dishes that have the cream sauce, I can never remember what it's called." He licked his lips at the thought of it. "What about you?"

"I like naan, too. I've never had it with nuts in it, though. That sounds good. One of my favorites is rajma. Macher jhol is pretty good too." Thinking of the food made Keyley think of her dad's cooking which was usually somewhat spicy and covered in some kind of sauce and absolutely delicious.
"How far is the restaurant from here?", she asked as her stomach let out a slight growl. Talking and thinking about all this food made her even hungrier than she already was.

He blushed again as she brought the conversation back to their date. "Oh, um, it's right up there." He pointed with the paw that wasn't holding hers, to a little building ahead on their left.
As they approached, he quickly took a couple steps forward to grab the door, holding it open for her. Inside, the restaurant's hostess smiled as they walked up. "Hello! You must be Tipuru... and date, I see." She gave him a wink, and he blushed hard enough to show bright pink even through his fur. "We have your table ready for you, right this way."

"Thank you", Keyley smiled when he held the door for her. She was liking him more and more every minute. Seeing Tipuru blush was so cute. When they were seated, Keyley looked over with her head in her paw and started day dreaming about possible future dates. Going to the beach and on picnics. To the carnival...fun stuff.
