"Grawareth, if you'd be so kind."

D'can stood out on the field that would be serving as the location for today's lesson - the start of ground drills. He'd been taking it a bit slow with this group of Weyrlings, mostly because several had been stands Impressions and a few of them honestly had no idea about the Weyr and what pertained to being a rider. Also, this group was huge - two clutches made for quite a few dragonets to be taught. There were also Atypicals in this group, not the first time the Brownrider had to deal with them, but there seemed to be more than the usual amount - two crimsons, a black, and a silver. Still all the dragonets were healthy as far as he could tell, which was enough to make the Weyrlingmaster happy.

I would be glad to. Everyone, it's time for lessons. Report out to the field located south of the Pens, and do not be late. There will be punishment for those who do not arrive on time.

The massive brown sent out his information to the Weyrlings, his mind able to find and tap them all with his bespeaking. He had left the riders themselves alone, only speaking to their dragons; the dragon should be quick enough to relay the message without any need for him to do so. They'd been working on the telepathy bond only recently, so Grawareth considered it excellent practice.

"I don't believe I mentioned I'd punish anyone today, Gray."

D'can laughed at the phrase used by his dragon all the while knowing good and well no one would dare be late. He'd only had to dish out punishments a few times in order for that problem to stop dead in its tracks, and he figured no one was enough of a deadglow to risk never being a member of a Wing. Yes - he'd told them that enough demerits meant no Wing.

It's for motivation. They'll come running shortly.

The dragon took a few steps back as D'can walked over the ground he'd marked out with the pattern's steps, today's main lesson going to be drills. They'd all start by learning them on the ground - the riders walking it first and the the dragonets going behind. It would take the memory of the rider and the bond between the pair for this little exercise to actually work, and D'can was counting on several of them to step up and show him what they were made of.

He paused in his steps as he rounded a corner and moved a rock out of the way, hoping everything would be perfect. The Weyrlings would be arriving soon and there would be no time to waste.

IC Notes:

  • By this point in time, the dragonets are almost 2 months old. There have been previous lessons on how to feed and bathe the dragons, as well as the basic going-over of rules for the riders ( no sex, fighting, etc. ). Dragons and their riders have been taught to practice their telepathy, but the strength of that skill varies rider to rider.

  • This lesson will cover the beginning of ground drills, as well as promote more of a team feeling amongst the Weyrlings and their dragons. rumor has it that D'can is looking to see who stands out amongst the students, for notes to the Weyrwoman.

  • D'can of Brown Grawareth is a kind, if not firm man. He has been the Weyrlingmaster for as long as many people can remember, though in actuality he has little over 15 turns under his belt as the instructor - having originally started being the Weyrlingmaster's assistant. Known for being a man who enjoys the company of others, Weyrfolk and riders alike, he is welcomed in all circles of the Weyr and its ranks. There is something about D'can that makes him an easy father-figure for many of the Riders who come under him that started as Weyrbrats, and D'can does not seem to mind filling that roll.

    D'can is 32 years old, and he Impressed to Brown Grawareth at the age of 15.

  • Brown Grawareth is a large and intimidating dragon, his overall presence hard to miss whenever he's about. Silent and efficient, he is a dragon of few words (even to D'can), though it has been said he was quite the chatterbox when he was a Jr. Weyrling. Grawareth is large enough to actually fly after a Queen should he ever want to, and who's to say he doesn't? Although silent he is kind and firm, like his rider, and he treats all who come into his lessons with the gentleness one might expect from a good and experienced teacher.

    Grawareth is 17 turns old, as he Hatched and Impressed to D'can when the man was 15.

OOC Notes:

  • This RP will last for ONE WEEK, ending on September 8th. It may or may not be extended depending on the amount of activity. ICly, this event takes place over a period of several hours. RP HAS BEEN EXTENDED UNTIL SEPTEMBER 11

  • There is no post order, but try not to get out of hand. If you want to interact directly with and/or Templath, be patient and you will be responded to.

  • Do not overpost/assume. If you start a fight in the lesson, don't continue it on for several posts - you will be responded to rather quickly.

Scarath lifted his head from his front feet; he had been watching his rider work in the kitchens from where he lay. 'Mine, Brown Grawareth and His would like us to show up at the field south of the pens. He says there is punishment for being late.' He rose to his feet and waited for his rider to join him.

S'kor looked over his shoulder at the bronze. "Couldn't he have given a little more warning? At least I'm not covered with flour, but I'd better change anyhow." He covered his work station. Glancing around for the head cook, he quickly explained what Scarath had told him and apologized for leaving so. Meeting up, the two headed at a brisk walk back to the weyrling barracks.

Fifteen minutes later, the two amble towards the field. S'kor has his arm draped over the young dragon's neck. "Wonder what we're doing this time." He mused softly to himself as the brown then Weyrlingmaster came into view. Making a curious note of the markings on the ground, he looked at the two for a clue. They stopped just shy of the lines to avoid stepping on them.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Optheli was in the middle of stitching up a rend in one of her skirts as the result of washing Dynith. She would have to seriously consider switching to pants for that part of the day. The sudden movement as Dynith jerked her head caused the girl to glance over. "What is it love?" The green ducked her head shyly. 'We're to report for lessons in that field south of the pens, Mine. We don't want to be late, though I don't think Grawareth would notice if we were.' She ducked her head again. Surely such a big brown wouldn't notice a little green like her.
She grinned and made the needle safe. Setting aside her stuff, she rose to her feet. "I don't know. I think he might, so lets not risk it hm?" Slipping into her shoes to go out allowed enough time for the green to rise from her wallow. Leading the way out and towards the directed field, Optheli walked with Dynith's head brushing comfortingly against the back of her skirt.
Ofelia's hand were raw, and not the good kind of raw that came from hanging too much pickled stuff for too long. Her hands were red and chaffed from the constant rubbing of Serinth's hide, the constant oiling for a dragonet that was growing larger and larger with each passing sevenday. A creature that had started as a runt (in Ofie's mind) was now big enough that she and Ofelia could no longer share the same bed, rendering their whole sleeping together idea kinda pointless.
The pair had been waiting to be called when Serinth lifted her head up, seeing as they both new they had lessons today. It was only matter of time before they'd be summoned, and the call was not missed. Serinth relayed the message rather quickly before she jumped up from her spot in the grass, her crimson hide shining with fresh oil. She'd complained of an itch earlier, one that Ofie spent the better part of a candlemark trying to get rid of.
"Goo' mornin' D'can an' Grawareth. How are ya both doin' today?"
The Crimson rider gave a hearty greeting towards the man standing on a marked field, though her steps quickly carried her over towards the massive brown dragon. Serinth quickly followed in tow, shaking her head over how Ofelia seemed to fawn over browns with something akin to passion. There wasn't the jealousy in her thoughts like she'd felt the first time Ofelia had spoken to another dragon, now something more like annoyance.
Ofie, you better leave Grawareth alone and wait for the others to arrive. We don't want to get into trouble...again.
"Fine, fine, quit yer barkin'. It's not like ya didn't enjoy gettin' in the thick o' it wit' me ya know."
. . . . true. But let's wait until the lesson's half over at least. Then we can have some fun.
"I'm game."
Ofelia hadn't quite mastered the whole USE YOUR THOUGHTS manner of speaking to her dragon, and it showed. Obviously. Others were slowly arriving, but it looked as though Ofelia was the first one there. . . .for once...until she noticed S'kor and his Bronze...whatshisface...th. Ofelia wasn't good with dragon names.
. . . .Serinth wasn't any better.
Mine, we have been summoned to the field south of Pens for today's lesson, Lifth remarked, calmly standing up and stretching his wings. We are not to be late.
G'brel had begun putting away her notes as soon as Lifth had said the word 'summoned', and she had to roll her eyes at the last bit. "No shardin duh. Sheesh, like they really need to keep reminding us by now." Like anyone really hadn't figured out the repercussions of being late by this point? Even the stands impression folks probably already knew better.
Many of the others are slower than we are. The blue did not specify whether he meant in physical speed or in mental facilities, and simply watched as his rider put away the last of her hides. Ready?
The teen nodded. "Yeah, let's go." Even if they weren't late, she still didn't want to be the last to arrive.
***
When the pair arrived at the designated location for the lesson, G'brel was very glad to see that they were indeed not the last to arrive, and even had some time to spare. "Good day, Weyrlingmaster!" The bluerider greeted with her usual energy and enthusiam. "Hello, Grawareth!" Lifth said nothing to the two, merely inclining his head in polite greeting to each of them as the pair moved over to join the rest of the Weyrlings gathered.
F'ren had just finished oiling Toulonth, luckily she'd fed before the oiling. Mine, Grawareth's is starting drill lessons! Toulonth relayed to him excitedly, "alright Toulonth, let me just wash my hands and change my clothes and we'll go" he replied out loud, when in company he tried to use thought speak but when they were alone he didn't bother.
Mine HURRY! we are going to be late! the Green demanded after a little while, attempting to actually get him dressed herself, though all she succeeded in doing was tearing his jerkin sleeve. "Shards Toulonth" he cursed, though he wasn't really angry, how could he ever be angry with his dragon, his partner, the one who loved him unconditionally. Hurriedly he finished dressing and hurried down to where the lesson was being held.
Huffing and puffing he made it to the lesson, there didn't seem to be very many people with their dragons here yet, but he spied Sk'or and THERE! G'brel! "Good day Weyrlingmaster" he said *good day to you great Brown* he said to the dragon, hoping his message got through, but given his failed attempts in previous lessons at that, he didn't think so. He edged over to G'brel and threw an arm over her shoulder "G'BREL!" he called loudly in her ear and grinned.
"Mine. Lessons, south of the pens."
K'ro looked up from his mending (he'd torn a seam in the left shoulder of his favorite shirt) and nodded to the green who now stood poised beside him. "Coming." Setting his work aside, he quickly donned his second favorite shirt and made for the appointed meeting place. His long stride allowed him to arrive in good time without dashing, and these days Viridith could comfortably keep up with him thanks to her own long shanks.
As he arrived, K'ro threw a salute to the weyrlingmaster and his dragon and offered a slight smile but didn't actually address the pair; as ever when there was something to say he would say it, but in the meantime he kept quiet. On spotting Ofie, the powerful young man gave another smile and a slight nod; he was still rather fond of her even though he still didn't know her brilliantly well, partially thanks to Viridith's possessive nature; she really wasn't fond of him spending time with anyone other than her.
For her part, the lanky green treated everyone present to her usual intense scrutiny, reserving special attention for the weyrling master and his massive brown. "Grawareth, " she greeted with a sharp tilt of her head, "we are ready." This was her usual greeting to their tutor's dragon, or the dragon of anyone who was about to tell them to do things. Viridith did not do things until she was ready to, and as such she felt it fair to inform those around them when she was; sharp though her voice and movements were in general she had no desire for trouble to start... In general. Just so long as nobody tried to take Hers away, or to make him pay more attention to them than to her she was quite happy to live and let live. If not... Well, so far nobody had crossed that line, but if they did they would very quickly know just how displeased she was.
G'brel let out a surprised exclamation-- not so much at the arm around her shoulder, but rather from the sudden shout directly into her ear. "Ack! F'ren, you dimglow, are you trying to make me deaf?" She replied half-scolding, giving the greenrider a playful jab in the ribs with her elbow. "Sheesh, you're not supposed to incapacitate your friends, knuckle-head. Ready for the lesson?"
Lifth didn't say anything during the exchange, choosing to merely watch instead. He gave a small inclination of the head in greeting to Toulonth as she approached, simply because she was his clutchmate. Her rider, however, he had yet to find any reason to be impressed with. If anything, he often found the lad to be rather annoying and troublesome for a human.
D'lin was in the middle delivering a box of supplies to the kitchens, Plexith meandering along behind him as though looking for excitement on what he considered a chore below their station. D'lin had attempted to explain that really they didn't have much of a station in the weyr yet at all as they were still students but the little bronze was bound and determined to be irritated by the request and continued to protest that one of the green or blue impressed weyrlings should have been pressed into playing delivery boy. D'lin had just decided to stop arguing the fact a while back and let the bronze simmer. Really there was no changing the beasts mind once it had been made up anyways.
So when an excited snort sounded behind him and Plexith came bounding up from behind D'lin was just a bit suspicious and half turned around to see what Plexith might have decided to stick his nose into before the bronze bespoke him in excited tones. 'Mine! Grawareth and his have summoned us to the south field for a lesson! Come! we must go now!' This demand of course punctuated by a demanding jostle with his muzzle. D'lin made an oofing noise and steadied the box of supplies before Plexith's badgering sent them all spewing over the ground and gave the dragonet an irritated look of his own. "Be careful Plexith! Your going to make me drop them" 'Oh put that silly box down mine and come along we are going to be late!'
D'lin sighed and glanced in the direction they were going, the kitchens were just a few paces off, resolutely he started towards them walking as fast as his unsteady load and Plexith's meddling would let him 'We can't just leave the supplies out in the sun Plexith, they'll spoil' He told his dragon firmly 'the kitchens are only a few steps farther, we'll make it there on time' He further assured the dragon and although grumbling about it Plexith followed.
They reached the kitchen's just in time to see S'kor and Scarath leaving and D'lin nodded politely before taking the box inside to drop it off 'There you see, we're not much behind S'kor and his, we'll be fine' He told Plexith as he returned and they headed towards the field 'Yes...but they're going to get there first...' complained the dragonet and D'lin sighed before patting the bronze and breaking into a jog - there just wasn't any reasoning with him sometimes "Well we better run then" he told the dragonet and by hurrying along managed to placate him somewhat.
Upon arrival D'lin's eyes swept over those gathered. 'See we're far from last' He told Plexith who was too busy bugling a greeting to his clutchmates and the massive bronze to pay him any heed at the moment. "Sir" He greeted the Weyrlingmater with a slight nod before smiling a greeting at the rest of those gathered - he didn't really know any of them very well...but he did know them - if only by name.
F'ren smiled "well i wanted to let you know i still remember your name!" he said grinning, "how handsome your blue looks today" he noted, "feel free to teach me a lesson once this 'ban' is over" he winked to her, to show he was (half) joking. Mine, i dont think that yelling is a good idea, the lesson will start soon and i want to learn this, so that we can fly together F'ren sighed and held his hand on his greens head "alright Toulonth" he said out loud, forgetting to thought speak to his dragon. "Oh Hey, G'brel any signs of our third companion?" he asked her.
They weren’t late, but it was a near thing. V’al and Lerath had been taking respective afternoon naps when the brown’s call for attendance woke the blue. Groggy and surly, V’al started pulling on his boots and a light hide jacket. “Go ahead and hold my spot. Tell me anything D’can says,” he said after nearly tripping over Lerath’s twitching tail. The dragon had grown quickly over the past months, and it was with some disappointment that V’al recognized they wouldn’t be forever able to share a weyr, no matter how hard Optheli’s green sunk in on herself to conserve space.
I go! And he did, claws scraping the stone in his haste. Crossing the weyrbowl, Lerath’s wings unfurled as if he were considering flight. But he pulled to a stop not far from the other weyrlings and gave Grawareth a greeting bugle. Mine is coming. He has a long way to run. I will listen for him until he arrives.
And the boy appeared not long after, jogging across the weyrbowl at a goodly pace, though when he stopped by his blue his breath wasn’t too heavy. Even in a hurry he’d paced himself. He seemed immune to the embarrassment of the little scene and gave the Weyrlingmaster a solemn nod as he took his place.
S'kor returned the nod to D'lin as they passed by each other outside the kitchens.
Unsure really what was going on, or what would be expected, he stood slightly off to the side of the group. S'kor watched as the others arrived. He made a small note in the back of his mind at how the dragons all had grown. It was rather hard to notice until they all got into a group. When Optheli arrived, he gave her a small wave and grinned to himself.
Scarath sat on his haunches to watch his fellow dragons arrive for the lesson. He answered back to the ones who bugled greetings in his young high voice. To the others he simply nodded.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Optheli was wide-eyed. This was something new! She returned her brother's wave; predictably he was standing off to the side watching everything. Looking around for someone she knew, she quickly spotted Lerath appear. She went over, Dynith trailing, and looked down at the blue. "I assume V'al sent you ahead to get your wings out of the way?"

Spotting V'al jogging closer, she waved wildly. He probably didn't need her to tell him where his dragon was.

Dynith peeks around Her's skirts at the blue. 'Good day Lerath. Mine is excited for today's lesson.'

Lessons! Sleeth trilled happily, bouncing up and startling Akaya enough that the girl had to fumble to keep ahold of the pipe-flute she'd been playing as the two worked on their telepathy--and their scales. They were getting pretty good at it too, Akaya mused, as she tucked instrument into her belt and rose to her feet, dusting her clothes off.

"Well then, let's not be late," she said, which was all the encouragement Sleeth needed to shoot ahead, getting to the field long before her rider did. Akaya had learned some time ago it was a losing battle to try and actually keep up with the green--rather, she conserved her energy and worked on her personal stamina. It'd worked well enough over the past two months... Oh, and please do refrain from blasting everyone with your greetings, dearest, there'll be time enough to say hello to all of them.

All right, Sleeth's mental voice came back, agreeable, as the dragon herself made straight for her longsuffering roommate and another green. Lifth! Toulonth! Hiiii!

Akaya arrived, striding as long as her short legs would allow but not at a somewhat undignified run either, and she edged towards her dragon--and her roommate-turned-friend, G'brel, and waved a hand in greeting to F'ren as well. She didn't know him that well, though over two months they'd all come to know one another by sight at least.

"So my name's finally stuck with you, you say? Well what if I told you that you still had the wrong name?" she replied back with a smirk. "And for the time being the only 'lesson' you will receive from me is the occasional smack up-side the head." A friendly one of course. Unless he did something extra stupid like at the hatching feast, in which case the smack may not be so friendly. "S'in? Hm... Doesn't look like he's here just yet." She had paused to look around at who was gathered. "Oh, Akaya's on her way though. There's Sleeth coming now."

Lifth almost felt inclined to groan as the all too familiar mental voice greeted himself and the other green. Hello, Sleeth, he replied in a neutral tone, though his eyes gave away hints of dismay. Yours is coming, I assume? Ah, there she was. Hopefully the lesson would begin soon so that they could be finished with all of this 'meet and greet' nonsense. He'd much rather just be left alone.

"Hello, Akaya!" G'brel greeted cheerily as her bunkmate approached. "Ready for the lesson?"
PostPosted: Fri Sep 03, 2010 9:55 am

Mine. You will not make us be late. Move. Suvith none too lightly shoves his head at N'ian's back to get the boy moving at an acceptable speed.

N'ian merely gives a roll of his eyes at the shove and starts his feet moving towards the grounds that his dragon was still shoving him towards. "Stop pushing me I can walk on my own thank you very much." A thought about beating their bunkmate to the lesson though has him picking up the pace. Ignoring Suvith's comment that it is petty to think such a thing, he allows himself a grin when they spot the few weyrlings in their group and he can't see his bunkmate among them just yet.

Suvith passes him quickly then to greet his clutchmates' riders, eager for a small little conversation from someone with better manners than His. He was still working on him yet. Hello! Now if he could have remembered their names better he could have done a proper greeting, but oh well. Then of course he turns his attention to the large brown the Weyrlingmaster ahead of them, straightening himself up to look presentable. Hello rider D'can! Grawareth. It was only right to greet the large brown, but human minds were so much friendlier, in his opinion.

F'ren smiled sweetly at G'brel "what a shame i cant sneak into your bunk and watch you sleep anymore" he said playfully, though with F'ren you never quite knew if he was serious or not when he joked. He rested his hand on G'brel's shoulder lightly, as if finding comfort about soemthing from his old friend, "do you think...... i mean all this training, with my memory.. i might screw it up for Toulonth" he whispered, attemtping to shield his thoughts from his dragon. Mine, i will remember for you, and we can practise all the time to help you remember, you can do it, we will learn well and we will fly strong F'ren moved his hand away from G'brel "Oh Toulonth, we will train hard, and i promise i will try my best not to let you down" he murmured, for only his dragon to hear.

He dusted himself down in time to hear a familiar dragons bugle, "oh hey look there's my Bunkmate S'kor, and his Bronze!" he explained to G'brel Scarath! Mine, look there's Scarath! He's such a nice Bronze bugled Toulonth back to her fellow And Sleeth too! Hello Sleeth!
