Wandering alone for most of his life, Kiume had realized that there was something wrong in the past weeks. He knew that he needed to do something more and when he heard about the Dawnwalkers, he felt that he should at least take a look. The moment he arrive, Kiume felt like this was where he was supposed to be. Kiume had spent the last few days attending lessons and learning everything he needed to assimilate into the pride.
Given his previous knowledge about war strategy and battling in general, he was learning to become a guardian which was very exciting for him. There was this sense of accomplishment that swept through him as he lay in his den waiting to meet this lion named Runako. He was supposed to teach him a little about the pride and about being a guardian. Kiume was an eager student and excited to accept these new responsibilities.

Breathing heavily the lilac lion lay down for a moment of rest on the temple steps. How he had managed to nearly forget meeting with the newcomer, he didn't know. Though it had been while he was in the middle of the desert training that he had remembered the meeting. Then he had started running back inside the pride lands and hadn't stopped until the temple was in sight.
Pushing himself on his paws, Runako felt more energized since his quick rest at the temple. At least this lion - Kiume- hadn't been waiting outside for him. Carefully making his way past groups of lions, Runa started towards the dens. "Kiume?" He called out hesitantly before looking inside at the lion. This was him right? Runako definitely hoped so.

He had woken up relatively early today because he had slept early last night. Carefree and relaxed, Kiume wasn't exactly the most punctual lion either so he really didn't mind it when others were late. He was just happy to be here. Getting up, Kiume knew the time was coming so he headed out of his den. The lion looked around when he heard his name and then saw the owner of the voice. "Runako?" Approaching the other lion, Kiume wanted to know everything that this guardian had to tell him. "It's a pleasure to meet you."
It was so strange living within a pride because there were always lions around to interact with. He was used to going for days without seeing another living being even though he was a social creature. So far, everything was great and he was definitely interested in meeting other pride members. Everybody had been welcoming and nice to him so he really appreciated that.

"Ah, so you aer Kiume then." Runako grinned, "And as you already guessed I am Runako. Sorry for being somewhat late, it's easy to get distracted out in the desert." Tail swishing behind him the lion turned towards the exit, "Are you ready to get going?" Without waiting for an answer he started heading through the temple without pausing expect to point out a couple of spots where he knew other guardians sometimes trained.
"I usually train out in the desert though. But anyway - how are you taking to the pride?" He asked Kiume softly before walking out into the bright sunlight of day.

"It's no problem." Kiume was a patient lion and that made him a decent hunter which was a very useful skill. Nodding at his question, the lion bounded up and walked alongside Runako wondering what he was going to teach him today. "Always ready." Training out in the desert? That sounded dangerous but very interesting. "Everybody has been very welcoming of me and kind. I've been attending lessons and learning everything I can right now so things have been going well. Have you been here for long or were you born here?"
When he had arrived, he found the desert to be full of surprises and interesting things even though most lions would find the desert to be ominous. It was vast and somehow this pride has managed to live here for years. That in itself was fascinating to him and he felt that he would really like living here.

"Ah. They really are welcoming here. Which is why so many travelers actually decide to call this place home." Runako smiled at the other lion before pausing at his question. "I came from the roguelands. I wasn't quite an adult when I arrived here in the desert, so it's been a while."
Walking past the temple steps the lion lead the normal route of his patrol, "So tell me, Kiume. What all have you learned so far?" A grin twitched at his mouth, "My instructor started with a question about the natural enemies within the pride who have tormented us through our history. Can you tell me what they are?"

"I can see why." So this lion was like him. Kiume had wandered the roguelands aimlessly until he came upon the Dawnwalkers. "Interesting. I'm from the roguelands too and spent my entire life there. I came here looking for a place to finally settle down and I think it was a good decision." Returning the smile, Kiume hoped that he would live out the rest of his days here.
"We just finished the pride's history and we've touched a little bit on the rituals and gods a little bit." Natural enemies... Sifting through his thoughts for the answer, Kiume promptly responded, "Vultures have been the pride's natural enemies since the beginning?"

"Ah." Runako grinned, "A fellow rogue eh?" He chuckled at the lion's comment, "I would say that your decision to stay here was a good one, but then again I'm a bit biased." Pausing a moment the lion took the time to appreciate the feel of the warm sands beneath his paws. Once the desert had been a strange foriegn place to him, but now it really was his home. He hope that the other lion would feel the same way as well.
"Alright." Runako nodded in approval at the information. So he was still learning a bit, but still knew more than those who had stumbled into the pride. "Correct!" Smiling the lion looked at the clear sky before continuing on. "Though they aren't felines, those birds still can be a threat to the pride. Not as much as they used to be of course." Shaking his head Runako moved on, "Anyway I should lead you around the border, so you can get more acquainted with the pride's lands."

"Yep. Haha. I've got a pretty good feeling about this place." Kiume felt the sand sifting underneath his paws as he walked next to the other lion. It felt different than what he was used to in the roguelands but it felt nice. This pride seemed different than the ones he had heard about and living in the dessert made them very unique.
Phew. He would have been extremely embarrassed if he had answered incorrectly even though he had been sure about the answer. "I can see why. They can be menaces." The dessert seemed like an unforgiving place and it was hard to believe that a pride of lions could flourish out here. Vultures did seem very threatening and he made a mental note of this knowledge. "Alright. I'll make sure to wander around in my free time so that I get to know the terrain better."

"Mmm." Runako nodded before walking on. "They took advantage of the pride's weakness in the past and took everything they could. In turn we make sure to remember that and keep strong. We tend to prove that to the birds as well." A vulture had been flying low around ahead and the lion raced towards it with a threatening roar. His menance turned into a laugh as the bird sqwaked and flew back towards the sun.
Looping back around to Kiume the lion grinned, "But besides tormenting the vultures, we patrol the borders keeping an eye out for any outside threats. Like us many rogues are welcomed here, but sometimes you get a dangerous one or two. As guardians we help to take care of any such threat." Ears twitching the lion looked over towards the left where one of the pride's oasises thrived. "Have you visited all of the oasises so far, Kiume?" They could get a drink here before going on patrol.

Kiume would devote all he could to his duties and protecting this pride which had been so kind to him. He wasn't a violent lion or anything but he wouldn't mind taking down some vultures. Chuckling slightly as Runako scared away the vulture, Kiume liked this other lion already.
"Understood." That was typical for any pride needing to watch out for dangerous rogues or even pride lions. "I've been to a few of them but I haven't been able to visit all of the oasises." Surprisingly there were quite a few.

"Alright. That should be something else to consider - it's best to keep them in mind while on patrol. Else the desert heat will really get to you." He nodded as they approached the oasis where clear waters sparkled. "After this I'll take you on your first patrol of the borders and we can go from there."
Lapping up the cool water, Runako got his fill and stood ready. "Welcome to the pride guardian Kiume, are you ready to patrol?" He asked with a playful grin before becomming somewhat serious again. "Let's go."

Yes, he really should keep the oasises in mind until he gets more used to the desert heat. He could see why guardians were pretty important for this pride; there were dangers lurking everywhere. "Will do." Listening to Runako's words, Kiume felt a surge of excitement rush through his body. "Thank you." Feeling acceptance was something that Kiume had wished for for most of his life and there was a gap that was beginning to fill. Nodding in response to Runako's question, Kiume followed the other lion ready to patrol the pride's borders.
