How did you begin writing? Was it due to a school assignment? Perhaps a family member or friend also has an interest in the area?

I think I started when I was about seven, with a school assignment of a UFO story. I wrote it and my teacher said I had a knack for it. So...I continued to write though it was a fun thing. My cousin soon copied (and I was bummed as she was a year older than me and kept nicking my ideas). However, I didn't really kick off until I was about nine or ten when I was picked to read out one of my stories on a local radio station.

Since then, I've made it into a hobby and hopefully future side-career. Support from friends, family and teachers have always kept me going.

So how about you? What is your story?

I was pretty much told my whole life that I'd never be good at writing because of my spelling issues and usually assumed to be below averaged in intelligence. But I loved writing and I wasn't going to let anyone stop my passion. So basically I just proved them all wrong. In 11th grade the student teacher could tell from my writing that I wanted to be a writer (I think I was his favore student since I was the only one who cared) and last year I had the highest graded out of both of my teacher'screative writing class. And that was a college class! So yeah, I think I did a pretty good job proving them wrong.

I have a few stories I must have written at age 4 or 5. They're all only a few sentences long and hardly make any sense, but they're illustrated in crayon! XD

I don't remember much else until around middle school. I wrote ridiculous stories, and sometimes my friends and I wrote together. Late middle school is also when I started doing some RP with friends and other people online, and when I wrote fanfiction with a friend. We even had a terrible website. It was possibly on Angelfire, if anyone remembers those. Oh man.

Anyway, I went to a writing workshop in high school and did my senior project on writing fiction. I had lots of support from teachers, too. But I didn't really write a lot in high school, and at some point I decided I didn't have enough ideas and was too slow, so I got interested in editing. In college, I took a children's writing class and got back into it, though it was really hard for me to produce stories on demand. I hadn't been writing for a while, I guess. It really does help to keep practicing.

At some point during college, my boyfriend (now husband) and I were working on revising and submitting his novel. I was also taking a class on YA literature, and one of the assignments had two options, one of which was writing the first however many pages of a YA novel. I decided to do it, and my husband and I decided we'd finish that book together. It failed, since we didn't know how to write together yet. But we decided to try again.

All of this plus helping with his book got me back into writing, and since then we've completed multiple books together, I write books on my own, and it's awesome. Would love it to be my career, and working hard on that now. Hoping, hoping, hoping to hear back on my submissions this month... /dies of chronic anxiety

I wrote a bunch of stories in first-second grade (I had the same teacher) that I now cannot remember for the life of me. My teacher would give us a sheet of paper each morning with a sticker in the corner (I remember getting a blue hat and a ladybug), and had us write a story about whatever sticker we got. Mine were usually read aloud to the class, and my teacher encouraged me to keep writing and creating stories, which I did.

It was in fourth grade where I attempted my first novel. I gave up when I realized a lot of it was not making sense. I did write a lot of short stories between then and now.

Most of my story telling for the next few years were in recess role plays with friends. Junior high was most of my fanfiction years, but that carried on through high school, and now and again, I write some, even if I do not post it publicly. In my freshman year of high school, however, was when I really got back to doing original things again.

That was when I created the first base characters for my current work, and a ton of other characters who are still floating around with no use (some have been rooted into my current canon; others need to find other places to be). Through high school, and now through college (I graduate in December), I have overhauled that work two or three times at least, and currently have two or three miniature works in addition.

I have this stupid curse where I get distracted with finding my old stories and trying to fix them so nothing gets done. I really should learn to focus on one work at a time, but I am at a stage where everything is at the, "oh! That is a good idea!" step. My main canon, at the very least, is detailed in notes, and some parts of it are actually written out. I am hoping to have more time/concentration when I graduate.

On long trips, my dad used to tell me fantastic fantasy stories he just made up. So, naturally, I wanted to create my own fantasy stories which started my love for writing. I'm not going to reaccount my writing during my school years...nothing worth noting.

I've liked writing since I was a kid but didn't really get into it until late middle and high school. I wrote a lot of poetry back then but not so much these days. I got into writing prose in college when I started writing collaboratively with the friends. That fell through and was a difficult time for me and I stopped writing pretty much altogether. I've just now started to get into the groove of it again and am quite happy for it.

I think writing for me came out of how...just different I was than other kids my age way back in elementary school - not that it's changed much now, though I do have two very awesome real friends <3

Anyway, I remember quite clearly my first complete piece (ironically it wasn't very complete re-reading it, and yes I still have it) was an assignment from the fifth grade. I remember everyone being really amazed that I wrote a whole six pages xD And I think the teacher wrote "promising" on it when he handed it back. It really wasn't. But yeah, I can't even really pinpoint a specific time despite everything I just said. It's like writing has become such a part of me I don't know where it began, only that it's here and I never want to stop doing it.

Long stories: back in the forth grade everyone in my class was given a picture with a small phrase under it and was told to write a short story about it. i got one that had a house with a punch of smoke under it with the phrase "it was a perfect lift-off" under it, and went from there. when we had to turn it in, ten page minimum, i had almost twenty and still no ending because i couldn't stop writing. the funny part is, i still have the pages and plan on going back, re-doing it, and finishing the thing eventually.

short stories: again, i was given a school asignment, and it was to be a mystery one. so, i did one where an officer found a girl and her baby brother in a house with their mother dead and, in the end, we find out that the little girl killed her mom to protect her brother because her toy bunny told her to do it. i liked writing that, so i kept writing after that. whee

Well when I was in 4th grade I won a poetry contest at our local library and every 4th grade class in the city entered so I felt pretty special. Ever since that day I have been writing poetry and the words i write just get more deep as I grow. I also began writing stories and my friends say I'm great at that as well.
