Son Taiken came from a long line in the Son family, his greatest and probably best known ancestor was Goku though he couldn't be further from being like him at all. Throughout his life he trained and even fought in a few tournaments though solemnly made it to the final round in any of them regardless of his competition. Even though he was usually unsuccessful he always wanted to fight and prove he had some talent so he worked day in and day out to perfect the signature techniques of his ancestors and some of his own, by the time he felt he was ready to finally win for once a great tragedy befell his own timeline's planet Earth. In his time almost all of the population of the planet was wiped out by a massive and deadly virus, even the pour guardian of the Earth had suffered from it. The only thing that saved him was his Saiyan genes and he was able to get a few of the humans off the planet during the viruses active state and to a different planet on one of the old Capsule Corp ships, which was owned at the time by his best friend Briefs Toteki. After the virus had passed everyone who was still alive went back to Earth and, to the horror of Taiken, the ones who didn't survive weren't able to be brought back, the dragonballs were nothing more than mere stones and none of the ships they had could make it to Namek for him to get the dragonballs from there to use so he had one choice, use a time machine to go back and try to get blue prints or some type of ship that could get him there. He may also want to meet and fight his ancestor Goku but that is only a side part of his mission.

Side Info: He was actually born 100 years after Son Goku Junior was, one of his ancestors. It is also questioable if he and Briefs Toteki are related so he doesn't know how much of him is actually human and how much of him is Saiyan... Also he considers sleeping a bit of a chore since he finds it need some effort, if he had the energy to he might actually just never sleep... (what a nutcase)
