Chapter One
“Catch it, Silverkit!” A gray kitten yowled.
“I got it!” Silverkit squeaked, lunging for a ball of moss that was slid to her by the gray kitten. Silverkit snatched the ball of moss and scooped it up in her paws.
“Beat that, Wolfkit!” Silverkit yowled to the gray kitten.
Wolfkit snorted, “I could beat you with one leg!”
Wolfkit lunged for the ball of moss that Silverkit had. Silverkit slid the moss over to another kitten that was watching them play.
“Willowkit!” Silverkit called, “Don’t let Wolfkit have it!”
Willowkit stood frozen as Wolfkit dashed over to her and stole the ball of moss.
“Ha! I told you I’d get it!” Wolfkit taunted.
Silverkit snorted, “You only got it because Willowkit wouldn’t play…” Willowkit looked as though someone had stabbed her with a thorn.
Silverkit’s eyes glowed as she flicked her tail toward Firepaw, a grumpy apprentice, “Lets go mess with him!”
Wolfkit’s eyes sparkled mischiefly as he slunk over to Firepaw. “Hello…Firepaw…”
Firepaw glared at Wolfkit, “What do you want?”
Silverkit padded up to Wolfkit, “Oh nothing…”
Firepaw narrowed his eyes and turned away. Wolfkit snorted and grabbed the ball of moss. He threw straight to Firepaw’s head and it stuck to his fur.
Firepaw quickly spun around, “GET IT OFF!” He screeched.
Silverkit started to laugh and dashed away before a warrior got on to them. Her and Wolfkit sighed from all the laughter as they huddled under a tree. Silverkit layed on her back, “Hm…do you have dreams Wolfkit?” She asked the gray tom.
Wolfkit’s eyes shone, “I’ve got dreams! I want to be ruler of the whole forest!”
Silverkit looked up, “Why’s that?”
Wolfkit smiled, “’Cause when I do that, everyone will listen to me and then I can rule them all!”
Silverkit pressed on, “And then?”
Wolfkit rolled his eyes, “Geez are you that clueless, Silverkit? I want every cat to listen to me! I want to be the one speaking to Starclan! I want to be the one who stops all this fighting and rivalry!”
Silverkit glanced up at the sky again, “But…isn’t that against the warrior code?”
Wolfkit shrugged, “I don’t know. But what is Starclan gonna do if I’m ruler? The warrior code won’t matter anymore. But I won’t be like Tigerstar and try to control everyone. I just want to help other cats find peace…and I was also planning to make you my deputy…”
Silverkit’s eyes shone, “Oh! I want to be a deputy!” The thought of it made her paws tingle with excitement.
Wolfkit purred, “Great! Then will you help me rule the forest?”
Silverkit’s eyes shone, “I will!”
Wolfkit nodded, “Good. I’ll need someone to help me! Well what about you Silverkit? Do you have any dreams?”
Silverkit shrugged, “Not really. But now I do! I want to help you!”
A silver-ish she cat crept up to them both, “Now, now, you both should head off to the nursery. You’ll need rest for tomorrow.”
Wolfkit hesitated, “…Fine!” He walked off toward the nursery, and Silverkit followed.
“You too, Willowkit…” The queen said softly to the little kit.
Willowkit said in a tiny voice, “Yes, Shineleaf…”
Silverkit felt bad for Willowkit. She and her brother Wolfkit’s mother had fallen sick with greencough. She hadn’t been out of the medicine cat’s den in a while. Silverkit sometimes wondered if she would ever get out. Maplepelt, the medicine cat, was trying her best to help Berrytail, but nothing seemed to work. Willowkit had kept silent since.
Silverkit squeezed into the nursery and laid down next to Wolfkit. She had to giggle. Wolfkit had said he wasn’t tired, but he was already fast asleep. Silverkit let out a little squeak and soon went to sleep thinking about being deputy of the whole forest.
Silverkit was in the Thunderclan camp alone. The fresh-kill pile was gone, and she couldn’t scent anyone. Where am I…? She thought. She noticed that the camp was surrounded with trees with silver leaves on them all. Silverkit looked at them all awkwardly, and the wind seemed to whisper in her ears, Accept your destiny… The same words began coming from everywhere until Silverkit couldn’t take it anymore.
“Okay! Okay I get it! So what is my destiny?” she asked the wind.
The wind seemed to fade but Silverkit caught a tiny little bit of it, You will find it in the willows… Then everything went black.
Silverkit woke to screeching, “Someone get Maplepelt! Willowkit’s not breathing!”
