As noted before, WWE will be holding a Unification match for the Divas and Women’s Titles at Night of Champions.
The talk Monday was that WWE is planning to unify all the titles in the next year and have one World Title, one Tag Team Title, one Intercontinental/US Title and one Women’s Title.
The idea would be to do the WWE and World Title Unification match at WrestleMania 27.

Huh? But why? I mean, what do they hope to gain by doing this? I get the whole deal that the more titles there are in a Federation, the less esteem and accolades go to the champions holding the titles; but with only one World/Mid-card (not really concerned with the Women's/Diva's titles being unified since the way things are going with the females in WWE they are all but meaningless anyway), then are they going to have one show with all the titles and one show without any titles... Or they will have one show with all the World/Heavyweight wrestlers and one show with all the Mid-Carders, in which case, who will do the jobbing?

Unless they have it so that the World and Mid-card titles can be defended on both shows? I'm not even contemplating the idea of them going back to one show as the roster is too large for that, unless they trim buggerloads of fat...

The US and Intercontinental titles are part of WWE history. Both have been held by some very important and well known Superstars, not to even begin to mention the WWE and WHW titles... Are they just going to throw that lineage away to begin a new one?

I don't know. If anyone can share some insight as to what their reasoning is behind doing this then please do, because this just seems like WWE shooting themselves in the foot... again...

And what, the titles are going to be interpromotional?

I'm almost completely on board with this idea, but it'd suck if the IC and US titles got unified. They're both necessary to push the mid-card wrestlers.

Sounds good to me, I'm all for it. The Undisputed Championship in 2001 was awesome as the Champion actually was the number one guy in the WWF as he defended it against all challengers from both shows unlike now.

Not like the brand split or draft matters anymore with the constant swapping etc. At least when both shows got all of their own titles to begin with it made sense as people on Raw or Smackdown never appeared on the other show at all.

We all know how it's going to end:

Cena, HHH, Taker, Orton, Mysterio over and over for World

Sheamus, Edge, Jericho, Swagger and Kane over and over for IC.

So instead of having these 10 guys in a separate Main Event scene, we'll be forced to watch them on midcard AND Main Event, making the presence of those worthy to be watched... Completely worthless as they won't have the deserved TV time and recognition for their work..

Jericho may already be gone. And we all know that Taker and Mysterio are leaving within the next few years. In addition, it's likely that HHH and Kane will leave the ring, for mutually exclusive reasons.
For the world title scene, that'll only leave a few people... Orton, Cena, Edge, and Sheamus. Throw in a few upper-midcarders, and we'll also have Punk, Swagger, Kofi, and whether we like it or not, eventually The Miz. That sounds like a full main card to me.
As far as the Intercontinental scene, it'll be fine.

my belief is this may be a way they push the Undertakers potential final storyline.
he has always stated his retirement would co-incide with the return of Paul Bearer to his corner so im under the influence that he may be the champion going into Mania, win the title and unify them then have some epic happening to retire him, being Undertaker the WWE would go all out, maybe a lightning strike him in the ring leaving him a heap and the Paul Bearer use the monks to place him in a casket and wheel him away. something of said effect to keep his wrestlemania streak in tact, have him the first unified champion of the new era and give him a suitable send off in typical Undertaker fashion.

With Bearer around, I gotta agree with Mort, but I'm not sure about the part of him being the Undisputed champ. Starting a new era with somebody who's gonna leave the next day? Not sure this works too well.

However, I think you're right on the Bearer situation, that it coincides with his retirement. The way I look at it, it seems that they will pull something as if Bearer was sent back to this world to bring the Undertaker back to Death Valley, or some sort of reason that is a good keyfabe retirement for The Undertaker's character. So Bearer being allied with Kane would make even more sense than a simple "RAWR! ME WANTS REVENGE CUZ U BURY ME IN CONCRETE YEARS AGO!!" as it was brought up by some around the web.

Yes, TNA, who has gone with the brilliant idea of having tons of extra titles for no reason.
