Character Name: Erie

Age: 18

Gender: Female

Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual

Craft/Rank: Wherhandler apprentice

History: Erie grew up around Whers, her parents were wherhandlers at Bitra Hold so Whers are mostly what she knew from an early age, as an only child she had the full attention of their training. Like every child she'd dreamt of getting searched and Impressing one of the great dragons, but she was also practical, and when subsequent searches came and went, with her remaining at the hold, she didn't mind too much. Instead she worked hard at learning as much about Whers as her parents would teach her as well as any other chores that were thrown her way. Growing up in Bitra hold was, to her, mundane apart from the whers. being small, meant that she was bullied, behind the adults backs as she grew, she went from a pretty sweet toddler, to a mean mouthed teen. She often snapped at people for imagined insults, though her attitude has improved after being told by a visiting dragonrider that her sort of attitude was not one that attracted dragons when he had overheard her argue with a young lad, she was much chargrined and kept quiet, avoiding people for a little while, after that she thought more about they way she spoke than before but she still has a tendancy to snap occaisionally. When she turned 16 she was Searched, quite an honor to her parents, but she however was displeased, since it meant leaving behind her parents, the whers and her somewhat calm life and she refused to go, having come to the conclusion that Dragons weren't really the life she wanted. She was sent to Benden Weyr regardless, her parents having already taught her as much as they could, hopefully she would learn more with the Benden Wherhandlers than she could with her parents. When she arrived a weyrbrat about the same age as her showed her around, and she was not impressed by his attitude since, despite her somewhat ugliness (in her opinion), he seemed to delight in trying to flirt with her, resulting in her feeling like she's sucked a raw wherry egg, since then she'd seen him around a little he'd flirted almost every time and learned his name was Tsubari, though she hadn't shown it, she was flattered that he'd paid attention to her at all, but she would never ever admit that she liked him. After a full turn of proving herself a hard worker and dedicated to whers, she was allowed a chance at a Wher egg and, going along with everything she had been taught she was submissive enough to the gold Wher, bowing low she approached, the strange greeting noise that was customary emitted from her throat. The gold seemed to appreciate this and allowed Erie to choose her egg. Erie was extremely happy, having a Wher was the best thing that could have happened to her (she thought). In due time the egg hatched and a lovely Green wher emerged. Another turn passed and she's learning even more what it means to be a Wherhandler.

Description: Erie is slightly shorter than the average girl her age, she's pretty flat chested too. Plain faced, practially average and nothing special whatsoever, except a cute dimpling to her cheeks when she smiles. Her hair is a muddy brown and dead straight, she likes to try and keep it short, but as a girl, has always been expected to keep it long, so she comprimises by having it no longer than her shoulders. Her eyes are a light hazel, and pretty much considered her only pretty feature. She is well muscled for her size though, working hard where she can. Her clothes are usually torn in some places, from being around her parents whers, and from getting into 'boyish' trouble.

Personality: Erie has the tendancy to snap at the slightest thing occasionally and often if she feels she's been insulted or slighted she will get very annoyed, and even go so far as to verbally attack her (imagined) enemy. She can sometimes appear calm but this is when she's dangerous, as she will likely be plotting how to retaliate without getting caught, that said she's not a pshyical person, and rather than hit out at anyone she will just lash out with her tongue. She tries to keep it under check and sometimes feels bad about her attitude to certain people, especially if she realises SHE was in the wrong, however she's not likely to admit it. Given her hot headedness you would think she would resent being given orders, but in fact she will complete almost any task set to her, wanting to prove to the Weyrbred that Holdbred were just as good. her opinion of the other Weyrs accepting Atypical dragons neither one way or the other, she guesses they must be useful since they exist but she thinks a lot more of the 'traditional' colours, since she's never heard of Whers being anything other than the usual colours.

Other: Her Flit Cerra She can be found in her free time, trying to spend as much time with the Weyrs Watchwhers as she can, learning wht she can so she can attempt to return to her Hold and her family.

Name:Erisk
Colour: Green
Description: Erisk is a large green wher, she has (in Erie's opinion) the most wonderful markings. Lovely dark green head, blending down into spots around her ribcage, her rear and her legs are a gorgeous paler green colour.
Personality: Erisk has a tendancy to enjoy her food a little too much, she prefers to hunt rather than eat the prepared meat, she seems to enjoy the hunt, at least thats the feelin Erie gets from her when she dissapears into the gloom. She'll have the occaisional tender moment with Erie when they're alone together but in company she's the very embodiment of a watchwher, Erie thinks Erisk enjoys her 'job' a little too much and has to often keep a tight control on her. Though she is usually very obedient to Erie

One thing - you mention nothing of his being a Candidate in the history. You say she's a wherhandler's apprentice, but that would take dedication and being a Candidate would interrupt those studies. She cannot be both wherhandler apprentice and Candidate. And being a Candidate doesn't make sense if she's had negative encounters with dragons before. She wasn't Searched, so she can't be a Candidate.

If this makes sense, I'll be happy to accept her.

edited a few bits, my thoughts were she had been a wherhandler apprentice to her parents, but they'd sent her off when she was searched at 15, thinking that would be a better life than theirs?

As long as you understand that you can't double dip and that changing her from Apprentice Wherhandler to Candidate forgoes any and all consideration for Whers. Personally, I find that irritating because you made the character to be a Wherhandler and now you're suddenly switching to a Dragonrider Candidate? That seems rather silly.

Also, you might want to speak to Silvershieldwolf about your matching histories now that they were not Wherhandler Apprentices together - if she was Searched, she would not have met him and likely been in an entirely different place at the time of the Green's flight, rendering that part of your history null and void.

See the problem with drastically changing the character's premise? Everything else needs to be adjusted appropriately, and in the case of characters with matching histories, it effects them too. Tsubari can Stand at a Hatching by virtue of being a Weyrbrat while a child born outside the Weyr cannot stand unless they're a Candidate... but your character was written to be a Wherhandler.

In the end trying to cover all your bases with a character already written for a specific purpose isn't encouraged and is disrespectful to the character itself.

It's your choice what you want to do with a character but you then need to revise the character to have a history and connections that reflect that choice in life, versus simply adding that possibility in.

If you'll fix the history (and also speak to Silver about the matching histories) and understand that what you're doing gives up the chance at Whers, then I'll accept the character.

ok Skie, i didn't think really, i think i'd like to keep her as a wherhandler apprentice since like you said she was created as such, i will adjust accordingly and make the changes a different colour

Two things - the Wher is an adult. The game was just using eggs, not actually giving out eggs. And whers are rather angry creatures - they aren't really playful unless you mean like a dog worrying a bone or something - a rough sort of playfulness.

And she wouldn't be given an egg within a few weeks of her arrival, try a few months and then add on a year or so for the Wher's adult age.

Thanks!
