There was a bit of relief to hitting the streets for patrol that night. That stupid b***h Fiona had been stalking around the campus for no good reason, snarking and sniping at her hair. Look, her hair was curly, and it was red. Of course it was going to look a mess on a humid day! At least sailor soldiers appeared to have magically perfect hair--no frizzing, no nothing. She didn't even mind the goddamn assbow.

Still, there tended to be... well, monsters. Big ones. Frightening ones. Ones that looked like giant spindly men on stilts, or more closely resembling a stick bug. It looked easy enough to take down--kick out its legs, stomp on its head, you're good.

Not so much.

It seemed to have some kind of thing. She'd break one leg, and it would go half-down, and then the leg would repair itself. It was frustrating, it was irritating, and she couldn't break the legs fast enough to get to the head! In summary, the giant stick bug monster? Really, really pissing her off.

Really.

She made her way through the streets, keeping near walls and alleys so that if a civilian or worse, a police officer, appeared she could disappear in to the shadows. She was patrolling yes, but with all the bad news going on about the senshi (which she knew was totally false, well most of it) she didn't want to get arrested. That would just be bad news bears and frankly Denebola didn't want to deal with.

Walking around at night felt absolutely blissful to the redhead. It certainly was a good stress reliever. Helped her clear her thoughts and her mind off of that brat Kaatje. She had gone to Crystal to meet with some old friends that hadn't graduated and of course there she had been.

A smirk spread across her pink lips as she thought about how well her little taunts and teases that worked against the lighter red-head. Her hair had been such a mess, not that it usually wasn't but it was worse this time. Fee just had to go and follow the girl around with taunts until she finally slipped away.

Oh well, that's what she got for insulting her appearance before she graduated. Oh, this redhead certainly knew how to hold a grudge, when she felt like it.

She turned the corner down a street and froze immediately when she saw the creature. She wasn't scared, (Hah! Nothing scared her!) but she was surprised. Denebola wasn't even entirely sure she knew what that thing was all she knew was that there was someone else attacking it in an attempt to beat it down.

The senshi stood transfixed by the bug before suddenly snapping back to the present. She jogged forward, cupped her hands around her mouth and called out to the other girl. "Hey! Need a hand, er leg?" She had no clue what to do but she figured with combined forces they'd be able to beat the thing down.

It was about the third time she'd broken this particular limb; with a crack and a groan, the monster collapsed a bit to the side, but nowhere near close enough to the ground for Gunn to even make a try at its head. "Ugh," she shrieked, stomping one sandal-clad foot on the ground; "What the hell, this sucks!"

The sound of footsteps was unwelcome; it meant, most likely, another civilian. She was whipping around as the monster propped itself back up, face already set in a scowl. The sight she was greeted with was rather more friendly than a civilian's, and much more welcome. "Oh, thank God," she said, throwing her hands in the air. "Someone useful, I thought you were going to be a civilian and I swear to God I'd cut myself."

She actually wouldn't.

"Anyway, yeah, that would be so awesome," she said gratefully. "By the time I get to the fourth leg and can almost reach the damn head, it's getting up again."

Denebola's dual colored eyes followed the other senshi's form as she snapped one of the monster's legs. She found herself grinning as the creature began to fall over but it slipped away when she saw that it could repair itself. s**t, that couldn't possibly be any good.

Her eyes narrowed and she pursed her lips into a thin line as if she was trying to figure out the best way to approach the situation. She hadn't realized that Gunn had turned her attention to her. She snapped her head over in the other girl's direction as she spoke.

She grinned again, she would undoubtedly feel the same way if some random civilian wandered by. "Pft, like a plain ol'civvy could help you with that," she replied jokingly tossing a hand in the direction of her soon to be opponent. "Man it's ugly," she made a face before looking back at Gunn.

"So we just have to take all the legs out just long enough to let you get a crack at it's head right?" She asked considering their options. It would give her a good chance to test out her newly acquired abilities, she hadn't gotten in an actual fight yet! She cracked her knuckles and stretched her arms up over her head to loosen her up.

She was completely confidently they could take the ******** down.

"Civilians," she said in disgust. Even if she was one most every day, she also didn't get in the way of police officers or other vigilantes. Some civilians, though, didn't feel that kind of compunction; she'd even met one or two who insisted on helping, which just pissed her off because damn it, she was dangerous. She set things on fire. And it might not be her intention to do so, but it's what she did--her growing reputation as an "arsonist" soldier didn't really help.

She shrugged, gestured to the two legs nearest her. "That's basically it," she agreed as she idly sidestepped a ponderous stomp from a needle-sharp leg. It looked deadly, but it was slow, and childish. "It's like a giant bug. Anyway. We break all four legs, it goes down and hopefully one of us can deliver the coup de grace."

French was classy s**t. She stretched her arms over her legs and said, "Okay, on three. One, two--"

Denebola nodded in agreement. Being a civilian was fine and dandy while she was one but the minute she henshined up it was move over civvies, get out of the way. Things were simply different when you were a senshi patrolling at night, you attracted danger or you were seeking it. Civvies didn't stand a chance against the kind of stuff they went up against.

At least that was the way she saw it. After all, this was serious business.

She nodded at Gunn, rolling her shoulders as she prepared to dart forward for their attack. Despite being a newbie at this kind of stuff Denebola was positive that they could take the bad boy down.

She was pretty sure that if she could break the legs then Gunn could deliver the final blow. Which worked for her. But she was hesitant to use her attack just yet, she had watched the other girl break the legs on her own and wondered if it would be possible for the two just just bring it down without special attacks.

The minute 'three' was shouted the moved forward throwing herself at the beast with every intent of ripping the leg off, or something like that.

She had to jump to reach the monster's joints, but that was no problem when you were a sailor soldier. In addition to their enhanced strength and speed there was a certain ability to defy the laws of physics inherent in their powers; jumping, the ability to survive greater falls. Once, when bored, she'd read a book about people with aircraft-grade porcelain for bones. That was the best comparison she had for the endurance she was graced with at the moment.

As always, the leg snapped easily at the knee, and she could see the green-clad girl doing the same with her two legs. Except by the time she'd gotten to her second leg, the first two were being slowly repaired. <********," she said, grabbing handfuls of violently orange hair. "What the hell!... I don't suppose you have a useful attack for this kind of situation, uh... what's your name?"

This wasn't looking too good for the pair because they simply weren't quick enough. Half of it would go down and by the time they reached the other half it'd be fixing itself. How annoying.

She moved back when she saw that their attacks just weren't working. She brushed her hair from her face and looked back at her companion. "Well," she began glancing back at their opponent. "I've never used it before but it might?" For once she didn't sound completely confident.

She was far from frightened of the beast nor was she scared of getting hurt but...She didn't want to mess up and look bad. That simply wouldn't do. "It boosts my speed so I can hit faster and stronger," she explained before grinning. "Sailor Denebola at your service," she told her with a goofy salute.

"If it works like it's supposed to you'll be able to deliver the final blow."

"Gunn, Sailor Gunn--of Wildfire." Yes she was the arsonist senshi, no, she wasn't here to set fires or kill anyone. In fact she hadn't even whipped out any matches yet, because she knew if someone was running anything with an engine she might blow that up and then the world would be <******** also, she would probably go to jail.

She brushed her curls over one shoulder. "Well... Might as well give it a go, Denebola. If we're faster, we can destroy this stupid thing and go home. I'm tired, dunno about you." Gunn reached inside her bodice, drew out a book of matches.

Hopefully this ordeal would be settled quickly. "It's all right, you know, if you mess up. Nothing bad will happen to you--I blew up a ferry once. Still haven't gotten caught."

Denebola nodded interlacing her fingers and stretching her arms out before her to crack her knuckles once again. "Sounds like a plan," she replied shifting her dual colored gaze back over to the youma. "Either way it'll be interesting I guess," she mumbled more to herself than to the other senshi. She had to admit she was nervous, she had never done this before and while she wasn't scared of messing up, getting hurt or whatever she certainly wanted to get it right.

It was one of her first nights patrolling and it was her first fight as a senshi and she wanted to do it right!

"We can do it, I know we can," she stated rolling her shoulders back. She was about to move forward and use her attack when she heard Gunn's sentence and found herself grinning. "That was you?" She joked having only vaguely hearing of an incident like that. "Well we should probably finish this up as cleanly as possible then, don't want the police on our tail right?"

She stepped forward once. "Here goes nothing," she mumbled breaking into a run toward the youma. "Flight of the Dragonflies!" She cried as her body picked up speed allowing her to rip the legs off of the creature with enough momentum and force to continually rip the legs off without having to stop until she reached the last one. She slammed into it(having discarded the other legs along the way) and watched as the creature began to fall.

The matchbook from her bolero was out, flipped open between two fingers. "Clean as we can," she agreed, shutting it and tucking it away.

This time, the newer sailor soldier was doing her best to make sure it couldn't get up, no matter what. The legs came off, each making their own crunch--it sounded like someone cracking a lobster's claw. Gunn leapt in and, with a kick better suited to the dance floor, decapitated the monster.

"Good job, Denebola," she said, smiling.

Denebola watched as Gunn took off the creatures head and was glad that she wasn't the monster. She certainly didn't want to get on the bad side of the scout. She placed her hands on her hips and grinned back at the redhead. "Same to you," she replied with a nod.

She walked back over to the other girls side and brushed some of her bangs from her face. "I think we make a pretty good team," she stated looking over at Gunn. "How long have you been doing this?"

It had gone better once Denebola had shown up, Gunn had to admit. But she was reluctant to team up with anyone she actually liked--both because she'd burn them and because it really was simply unsafe to trust a senshi with no control over her powers to manage to not kill the world while a friend was nearby. More likely in this case, as she'd demonstrated, she would just freeze up and not use her powers at all.

"I… about a month or two," she said, reaching up to slide off her tiara. That caused her hair to tumble down into a pile of curls; she slipped it back on, glad for the cushioning between its hard points and her temples. "So, I've got a good bit of experience, I guess? Although I hear about people who've been doing this for years." She sifted through the remnants of the monster, was relieved to find no starseeds; sometimes there were the little crystals scattered through the dust and grime, and then she had to go hunt for bodies she might never find. Which was just depressing, really, and annoying, and.

She needed to think about something else. "What's your actual sphere? Speed or something?"
PostPosted: Tue Oct 26, 2010 10:52 am

Denebola considered the other girl's statements carefully, her lips pressing together to form a line and her brow furrowed ever so slight. "Years?" She frowned wondering how that was even possible, the senshi hadn't started showing up until recently, right? Then again she didn't know when they first appeared, just when they started showing up in the news so really they certainly could be around for years. "Huh, I can't even imagine that," she mumbled with a shake of her head.

She was confused when Gunn began to shift through the remains of the monster and moved forward. "What are you doing?" She asked tilting her head, letting her hair fall across her face before she brushed it back over her ear.

As the topic shifted to her sphere she grinned because it was one of her favorite subjects, indirectly but still. "Dragonflies, they're speedy creatures so I guess that's why I get a speed boost," she replied. She understood the creatures but didn't understand magic so that was the conclusion she had come to.

She glanced up at the sky to see that it was lightening far more quickly than she had anticipated. "Crap, I better run," she said quickly to the other senshi. "I'll catch you later?" She didn't bother waiting for an answer before she turned on her heel and fled.
