*HUGS*
I have a 2 brothers who I suspect are autistic, but hell will freeze over before my father bothers to have them diagnosed. I also have a friend with an autistic son. Autism isn't a death sentence. It just makes life interesting. When you know what the monster is, it's easier to tame. Do you know what sort of autism it is? I suspect my brothers have Aspbergers Syndrome, which is essentially the inability to read facial expressions.
It doesn't matter what happens, you'll always have friends here. And in case I've never said this before, I'll say it now, and I mean it with all my heart: If you're ever in my neck of the woods and need a couch to sleep on and a hot meal, let me know and I'll set you up. No strings attached. heart

We're all freaks. I'm a minor masochist who's involved in a christian church that's been accused of being a cult. And I'm going to take the leap from English Literature to Large Animal Veterinary Medicine because sticking my arm up an elepant's a** does not phaze me one bit.
As one of my favorite comedians said: Be normal, and the crowd will accept you; be deranged and they will make you their leader!
Anyway, just learn what you can about your condition. It's not your fault. It's just the way things are, so learn how to deal with it. If you can get a hold of a copy of the BBC special "the Human Face," maybe you can teach yourself basic expression recognition. There's one guy on that special with Aspbergers who did that--taught himself how to read expressions. He's still not as good at it as people without Aspbergers, but at least he knows when his partner is angry with him now. razz

I think everyone has something about themselves that is different. The important thing is to try and work through it. I have OCD, which is not very different I know, but it is something that I have learned to deal with and work through. It can be tough but every step you take is an accomplishment which feels really good.

Huh. Well, I don't have anything like autism or OCD but I deal with people that do almost everyday. And what I can say about that is...You will come to crossroads in life all the time. Just remember to bring the 'nocs. ;3

I have minor Asperger syndrome along with ADHD minor OCD and moderate paranoid schizophrenia. Last but not least . Of course, then again, everyone has autism to one degree or another. Haven't you seen the government propaganda? 1 in 300 people have autism to some degree, current population of America: 310,118,000 amount using this ratio that have autism (and may not even know it) 1,033,726.
So, why haven't our "cutting-edge" scientists figured out how to stop, slow, or eliminate this yet? I mean it is not like they are trying to find a cure for the common cold or working jet packs any more.
Sorry if that became a rant, I have been feeling a lot of pressure lately...

I have a friend who thinks that vaccines they give to infants can cause autism. Her theory is that the infants are allergic to the egg-base used to create the vaccine (she and her sons are allergic to eggs, so they weren't vaccinated as a precaution). A really interesting fact is that the Amish society--who do not vaccinate their children--have exactly 0 occurrences of autism.

As long it doesn't interfere with your life there's no reason to dwell on it. A diagnosis should be a way to label a way that you struggle, and a means to cope. In this case the diagnosis is probably pretty meaningless so there's no reason to validate it by giving up. We all have our different issues. I certainly have a few.
Also on the note of vaccination, there has been no correlation made between vaccination and rates of autism. It was entirely based on a now-admittedly fallacious article published in the scientific journal, "The Lancet." Since then we've noted that there is no link between these two factors and, more importantly, that there is a significantly higher risk of mortality (child and infant) without vaccination for certain conditions.
Most people get vaccinated (because it's a good idea), and some people are diagnosed as autistic. There's really nothing else to it.
