A land in another dimension, Otherworld is the destination for all of the universe's dead. many are traveling as shapeless, formless souls to Heaven or to Hell, but there is a middle ground. In this land, known only as the Otherworld, reside some of the universe's greatest warriors, who are permitted to keep their bodies upon death, to continue to train until the time might come when they are needed. It is in this land that King Yemma decides the fate of those warriors who have kept their bodies, and of the souls who have not. The lucky few warriors that King Yemma allows to endure the rigors and danger of Snake Way, the ten thousand-mile highway that passes over Hell, can take the journey and be rewarded by being trained by the mysterious King Kai, a notoriously harsh sensei, capable of feats of combat far greater than many other creatures can dream of.
Snake way is 10,000 miles long. In order to reach the end, you must travel those ten thousand miles. The safest way is to walk, in which case you move at a paltry 1d20 + character level miles per post. The second safest is to run, in which case you move at 1d20 + character level + dex mod. To jump from point to point is slightly faster, but more dangerous still: 1d20 + character level + dex mod + Str mod... And the most dangerous way is to fly, because the clouds that guard hell might take you as an escapee and drag you down into hell. you move at a rate of 1d20 + character level + dex mod + ki mod all times 2.
However, there are tradeoffs for the more dangerous movements:
Walking will not cause any detriments, and even if you roll a one, you will not incur any negative penalties.
Running will, in the case of a natural 1, lose you that post of movement as you teeter on the edge of snake way, and a further 1 will send you plummeting into hell.
Jumping will, in the case of a natural 1, cause you to land wrong, and while you will keep the movement, you must roll higher than a natural ten on your next post or fall into Hell.
And flying will, in the case of a natural roll of 1-5 cause the clouds to grab you, with a grapple check of 100, and you have exactly one post to escape or be dragged into hell.
For those who wish to try the journey, Snake Way's rewards can be great. For those who fall to the perils of Hell... Good luck.

Rota woke up from his nap, feeling refreshed. How long had he been on snake way now? days? Weeks? Months? time seemed to stand still here, as if taunting him. he sat up, and felt the scar on his face for the first time in ages, knowing full well what he still needed to do. he looked down snake way a bit, and saw a small dot in the horizon. the same one that he had seen before sleeping. "So close yet so far." he stood up, and started running. towards the dot. nothing like the present and all that. he was still surprised Tora wasn't here. it WAS a relief for him to finally be gone, but he feared for everyone under his queen's rule. for if Tora wasn't with him, he was till floating around in the physical realm. these thoughts stayed with him for a while, and then his attention was diverted to another, more interesting tidbit. he looked up, and saw his halo.

Rota looked at his halo for a good long while, wondering what it was doing there. he then pointed upwards, as he slowly moved his index finger towards the glowey golden disc above his head. once he got his fingertip one inch from the halo, he stopped it's ascent. he took a deep breath, and then poked it. once his flesh touched the halo, it deepened to bronze, and gained the properties of a tazer, shocking the Holy ******** out of him. this knocked him out instantly. once he awoke, he slowly got up, vowing never to do that ever again, and proceeded to run about his merry way.

Rota was making descent progress for his method of movement. he did NOT want to fall to hell. not when he was this close. he continued running the winding road that was snake way, his eyes trained on the black dot on the horizon.

Why does this sort of thing always happen to him? he ran a good distance, but he wasn't paying enough attention to his position along the edge, and nearly fell off. "No. Not now!" he combated with the forces of gravity, to remain upon snake way, and continue making progress.

The Fates smiled upon him as he not only regained his balance, but made even more progress along snake way. he could not stop for an instant until he needed to sleep once again. he continued running, keeping one eye trained on the edge, and the other trained on that slowly enlarging speck in the distance.

" SonuvaBitch!" today is not a good day in the death of Rota. no sooner had he done his best chameleon impression than he found himself in a familiar predicament. once again he did battle with the forces of Gravity itself.

Now that he had righted himself for the second time since he woke up, he continued on his not so Merry way. he now did not care about the speck, it was dead to him. he was watching the sides of snake way with fierce intensity.

He was making good time. Rota would not be deterred on his quest to run across snake way. he would get to the end if it was the last thing he would ever do.

He was running near full speed and nothing could gent in his be-haloed way. still he had a sense of dread and foreboding that was unexplainable and irrational. nevertheless, he continued running despite the sense of dread.

The feeling of dread intensified. doubled even. he couldn't explain it, he just had a really bad feeling. he had to ignore it. he continued down snake way, ignoring all feelings save determination.

He stumbled a little bit after running for so long, but it was nothing he couldn't handle. he continued running, getting fairly tired as he ran. this was the only reliable way to get to the end though, and it had served him so far.

He was slowing down and screwing up more than before. he needed a rest, but he wouldn't allow his body to have one just yet. 100 more miles and he would take a break.

His body seemed pleased with this proposition and began working harder so it could get the rest it duly deserved. he ran with a little more vigor.
