Everyone had woken up. It was all over the news, it was all anyone was talking about. After half the city had been asleep they all suddenly woke up one day. Well, not all. The news reported that more than a fair few had slipped away in their sleep, and some seemed to be stuck in a coma. Not dead, but not waking up either.
Damian wasn't sure where his not-quite-girlfriend fell in all of this. When he had first heard that people were waking up he rushed to the hospital but they wouldn't let him in. They were overrun with visitors trying to see their loved ones and only family were being allowed to visit. So for days he hadn't had a clue about what was going on. When he finally did make it inside the hospital her room was empty. It didn't take him long to question a nurse and find out that she had been discharged. The first thought through his head was relief she was okay, the second was wondering why she hadn't called him. Alba had called him the day after she had gotten out of the hospital, but then again they were teammates. Maybe girls had different sets of rules, he had no idea, but it did slightly bother him. He had spent countless late nights watching over her and he didn't warrant a phone call.
It didn't take him long to brush it off though, she didn't call him so he'd just have to call her. The first time the call went through to voicemail he assumed that maybe she was still recuperating, which was understandable she had been in a coma after all. A week and eight calls later he started to get the feeling she was ignoring him. He had no idea why, she had seemed to like him before she went into the coma. Granted their first date hadn't exactly ended perfectly (she thought he abandoned her when in reality he had saved her), but still they had had a second date so it couldn't have been that bad.
He was surprised how much her rejection hurt. Yes, he still wanted in her pants, but he found himself missing her dark humour, and her tactlessness. Trying to take his mind off it he had kicked up his exercise routine. On top of going the gym three times a week he was jogging twice a day, which was what he was doing now.
Dressed only in a pair of his old Meadowview high gym shorts the redhead was jogging through the park, his chest and face covered in a light sheen of sweat. It was obvious he had spent the last three months training, his previously untoned stomach now sported a four pack and his thighs and arms had gained muscle as well. He had his iPod headphones in his ears, but he was barely listening to it instead focused on the jogging path in front of him. That was until he caught sight of someone out of the corner of his eye.
Coming to a dead stop he turned around to look at her as he pulled his headphones out. "Devi?" He called out to her not completely believing it was her. What were the odds that he would run into her at the park?

The odds were pretty slim that Damian would run into Devi at the park. The odds were pretty slim that anyone would run into Devi anywhere. She didn't enjoy going out very much, especially into the bright sunny outdoors, but her mother had dragged her out of the house. Ever since Devi woke up from that nightmare of a comatose state, she had been even more reclusive, angry with the world. But there was someone she had pinned all this anger on (mostly very irrationally): Damian.
Despite all the odds Damian faced, matters were that he did indeed run into Devi at the park, taking a walk with her mother. When he called her name, she wasn't sure how to respond. A smile? No, that would not be her style. A cold glare? That would be far too rude.
"Mom, can you give me privacy for a bit?" she asked softly to her mother, before excusing herself to approach Damian.
"Hey."
She tried to avoid making eye contact; it was very obvious this was a situation she didn't want to be in. "I know I didn't answer your calls." There was no apology.

Damian hadn't even noticed that Devi was with anyone, he was too busy wondering what he was going to say. His headphones were shoved into his pocket and she stepped towards her, rubbing his hands on his shorts. Maybe the calls were a misunderstanding? Maybe she lost her phone at the hospital, or maybe she hated him he wasn't really sure, but he was about to find out.
"Hey, I'd give you a hug bu- Oh. So, you did get them then?" His excuse for why he wasn't hugging her was interrupted by her blunt words. Obviously it wasn't a misunderstanding, and she didn't lose her phone. She just didn't want to talk to him. He ran his fingers through his damp hair, scratching the back of his head. "Why not? I thought we had a good thing going." There was a confused look on his face, what did he do to deserve the cold shoulder?

"You were late," Devi said, rather quickly. "A good thing going? We had two dates. Our first date I was attacked and you were nowhere to be found. On our second date you were late and then I fell into a coma and had the most...horrifying things happen...I don't want to talk much about that."
She took a step back from Damian, her face feeling hot and her eyes stinging. She felt some tears coming along. She was much more articulate about her feelings in her diary.
"First I'm attacked, and then I get sent to hell. It feels like every time we're supposed to have a date, I've had some horrible things happen to me," she said. "You're a bad luck charm, and I don't want that it my life."

He was late? That's why she was completely ignoring him. It wasn't his fault that Selena had chosen to call him just before their date. She had sounded upset and he didn't think it would be a big deal if he was five minutes late. But apparently, it was. And then he was accused of ditching her on the first date, he wanted to tell her that he's the one who saved her! It wasn't like he was hiding in the bathroom or something. "Devi..." He trailed off unsure of what to say. True, he couldn't have saved her from the coma, but he could've been on time and he didn't think she wanted to hear his excuses. "I like you, a lot." It surprised himself how sincere he was, he actually did like her and her rejection was hurting which was something he wasn't used to. "I'm sorry I wasn't there to save you."
When she stepped away from him he stepped forwards. He wasn't going to let her just run away from him. "Aw, c'mon Dev, you've barely given us a chance. It's only been two dates, give me once more chance? I promise I'm not bad luck." He reached out to lay a hand lightly on her shoulder. "I don't know if you heard me, but when you were in the hospital I went and saw you all the time, and I talked to you. I was worried you'd never wake up."

"Don't you ******** touch me or I will snap off your hand and feed it to the dogs!" she screamed, backing away from his grip violently. Her 'feed it to the dogs' line would have been much more intimidating if it weren't for that the only nearby dog was a teacup poodle. She knew that she was in the wrong for that overreaction, but she was a mess.
"You were sitting in a cozy hospital lying over me? Fine. That's sweet of you. Do you know what was happening to me in that 'sleep'? The things I saw...," she started. The image of Europa's violent gross seizing death flashed into her mind, haunting her. "...you don't even want to know. I went through hell."
"I need some space Damian, I recommend you give it to me."

Damian wasn't an idiot, it wasn't only her words but her tone that made him snatch his hand back, both hands lifting up in surrender. "Okay, okay. Sorry." Obviously something really horrible happened to her wherever she went. Slowly his hands relaxed and he crossed them over his chest. "Fine, Devi, you want space then I'll leave you alone. But don't blame me when you turn around and look for me and I'm not there." He looked at her for a long moment, gray eyes sad. Shaking his head he pulled out his head phones and put them back in his ears. "'Bye, Devi." Turning he jogged back to the path and took off not looking back.
