Days trickled by like a slow moving stream, the monotonous sounds of hospital moniters and equipment counting out the time to anyone that cared pay attention. People had begun to awaken just as mysteriously as they'd suddenly fallen to sleep, a slow wave of life returning to the city. Aurora Namid however, much akin to the Disney namesake she'd been teased with not even a year before in this very hospital, clung to a silent and somber sleep.
The nightmares that had flashed behind her eyes, the misadventure in a land of insanity, remained hidden from the outside world as her body lay in almost statuesque peace. The hosptials were beginning to empty and refill, and still she slept. There were no signs of distress, the doctors had assured her father, her vitals pounded on day by day weakly but stubbornly. Even if she wasn't awake yet... she had not been one of the few that had faded away just as suddenly as the handfuls of others that had suddenly burst back to life.
Her eyelids shifted softly, cracking open just a quarter inch as a soft sigh escaped her drying lips, and just as quickly they pulled forcefully shut, sucking in a deep breath as the light, dim as it might be, assaulted her eyes. Aurora tried to lift her hand to instinctively shield them, moaning almost inaudibly as she found she didn't have the strength to lift more then her fingers.
It was dark.. disorienting... terrifying. A jumble of thoughts, bizarre memories, and everything else ran through her brain in horrible disorder. Words she'd heard spoken over the past weeks out of context and mixed around. Cheese sandwich eating tables, dangerous potions. Why couldn't she move..?
The spike in her pulse and breathing had gotten someone's attention somewhere, and as Aurora tried once more to cautiously part her eyelids the sound of soft but hurried footsteps entered the room. A surprised but obviously pleased feminine voice broken through the sounds of machines. "Are you finally waking up?"
Her arm was lifted, a soft and uncomfortable tingle spreading through it as blood flowed back towards her body. Aurora wanted to pull it away but her attempt barely illicited a shake in the apendage. Through slit eyelids and adjusting eyes she tried to focus on the blurry woman beside her.
"T... tired" was Aurora's stuttered answer to the question of 'how she was feeling'.
The woman became clearer, the light less jarring, her brain power and attention beginning to focus one what was going on, letting the jumble from before slowly drip away. Machine read outs were being checked, IV's tinkered with, a doctor called. In the corner she could see flowers, fresh and vibrant and a very deflated and pathetic balloon. 'Hap Birt' she could read from it and her eyes started to tear.
What was today? How long had it been...? What had even happened?
Like the many that had awoken before her Aurora remained under watch for a few days before the hospital released her to the school. Her overall health was fine and normal, her coherency and brain functions seemingly unaffected by the mysterious sleep. No cause was found for her sudden illness or recovery and all that remained was a general weakness. Her arms quivered under the weight of things she used to tote easily, her steps slower and less graceful, her general energy level zapped. It would come back with time and exercize they said, but it was hardly a relief for the girl. If she were just a school girl.. even just a dancer it wouldn't have mattered. She'd have time to heal, time and understanding. But she wasn't just a schoolgirl.. and as she was now... the bad guys would surely mop the floor with her.
