Another day alone, another day in misery. The sun still hung defiantly in the evening sky. It slowly - far too slowly- made it's way down to the horizon. It would soon disappear and leave the world in darkness. Not soon enough.

A lone stallion waited quite impatiently in the shade of the trees. He waited for darkness, longed for it. He'd not felt such a longing before, though he went through this every single day. Of course he spent every day in misery, but he also dreaded every night of being alone in the darkness. But tonight would be different. Tonight he would see her again.

A soft, low growl emitted from Nykto's throat. He pulled his red leathery wing away from his face, exposing his sensitive eyes to the brightness around him. He blinked several times then looked up at the sky, his eyes watering at the sudden change in light. He could tell that it would soon be dusk and he'd be able to leave the shade of the forest. He growled again, feeling much too impatient. It seemed that whenever one was looking forward to something in the future, the future took it's time getting there.
Nykto continued to stare up at the sky, his eyes unblinking though the light continued to hurt them. He didn't care about the pain, he was more than willing to withstand it if time would only move faster. But no matter what he did, time would not pass more quickly. He shoved his a wing back over his face and attempted to be patient. It didn't work.

Suddenly he stood, another growl escaping him. He stomped his front hooves menacingly on the ground and flexed his wings. He no longer cared about the sun or the pain he'd feel, he wanted to get to the place he knew she'd be once darkness took over the land. He walked swiftly to a small clearing and, lifting his wings upward, he leaped up and at the same time thrust his powerful wings down. He shot into the air and was soon above the treeline where the setting sun hit him. He did feel sun's rays, did feel the pain, but he simply did not care.

As he flew, he tried to think why he had ever left her presence in the first place and try as he might, he couldn't think of a reason though he was sure he had had one at the time. Truly he must be an idiot, he thought.

User ImagePatience had always been one of Edyis' strengths, but on this day, she felt even her's waning. The sun had seemed exceptionally bright, driving her even deeper into the forest than normal. And the heat, it was almost unbearable. How fortunate that she'd found a cool creek to submerge herself in, giving her the cool down she had needed.

Now as the sun began to set, she tracked through the woods. The water droplets that still clung to her white pelt glistening whenever some stray rays of light managed to break through the tree tops.

Soon she would be meeting up with the stallion that had been keeping her company. Those nights that she spent with the kalona half breed were beginning to become evenings that she looked forward to. It was nice to have someone to converse with, or to just have company when out for an evening flight.

Tonight they were planning to meet up at a large clearing by the base of the mountains.

As the mountains grew nearer, Nykto's wings beat harder with anticipation. The day had been so long, and so boring. But tonight had great promise.

The sun had now almost completely disappeared, leaving only a semi-light glow about the entire land. Nykto's skin was burning like fire now, though his pelt showed no signs of the pain he felt. He'd dealt with worse before.

As the clearing that they were to meet at came into sight, he suddenly began to plummet. His altitude declined rapidly as he dove down toward the spot they were to meet. He pulled up as he neared the ground, wings beating roughly, and landed not too lightly on the soft grass.

Not long after, Eydis followed Nykto into the clearing, her pelt still shimmering from the drops of moisture that clung to her white pelt. As her gaze fell upon the stallion from behind her helmet, the mare's lips curved upwards ever so slightly. So slight was the action that only those who knew the mare would notice. An odd stirring began within Eydis chest, causing the mare to pause in her steps. The stirring wasn't an unpleasant feeling, in fact, it was quite... nice.

Paying no more mind to the foreign sensation, Eydis approached Nykto. "I trust that you did not have any difficulty finding the place?"

She chose not to comment on him being out when the sun's rays still touched the Earth. She felt that any comments would unwelcome, and it was just not her place to say such things. Besides, he was no weakling. He could handle the pain, of that she was certain.

His eyes found Eydis the instant she was in sight. She looked magnificent, seeming to shine in the soft darkness around them. The pain he had felt was instantly removed from his mind and replaced only with the sensations he now felt in her presence.

Nykto began to move toward her slowly .He watched her carefully, his soft gaze on her as she looked back at him. He could not see her eyes, but he knew her gaze was on him. His eyes were drawn to her mouth, and the only barely noticeable expression he saw their. Was that a smile? He felt his heart beat quicken slightly, which only continued as she stopped. He too paused in his movement, though his face did not show any of the wonder he felt. Indeed, he wondered what thoughts were now going through her mind.

He stayed where he stood as she began her approach again. His smile was soft, gentle as she approached, but his expression quickly changed to one of slight cockiness as she spoke her question.

"Not at all. I've never been one to be...directionally challenge." And I'd not let anything keep me from finding you, his mind added without his conscious permission.

"How have you been, Eydis?" His gaze, though it had never left her, unintentionally began to scan her for any signs that she had not been perfectly well. He stopped himself almost as soon as he realized he was doing it. He had no reason to worry for her well being; he had no doubt she could care for herself perfectly well.

Black translucent wings shifted upon her back sending dark wisps of aura spiral into the air. The wisps drifted in a manner resembling smoke before slowly fading away.

But her attention was not on the wisps that had drifted from her wings.

It had been brief, but she had seen it. That soft expression on Nykto's face as he gazed at her. Brief it may have been, but it had filled her with a vast amount of pleasure. It pleased her to know that the soft smile from this strong stallion was for her, and her alone.

She wanted to make him smile like that more.

"I have been well. As, I trust, are you?" Once close enough, she lifted her wings just enough to allow a feathery light brush of white fur on white fur. A quick touch of side on side just as brief as that smile, and an unconscious act of possession. Though her forefront conscious was not ready to say it, the inner mind that controlled dreams and actions without thought clearly said, Mine.

"Shall we venture into the mountains on this night?" questioned Eydis as she pulled away. Her wings once more settling into place as a smirk curved her lips. Looking to darkening outlines of the mighty peaks, she continued, "I believe you owe me a tour?"

He nodded his head slightly in answer. "I've been well," he began, then paused only a moment as he felt her against him. She was warm, contrary to how her appearance made her look. In that very brief moment, he wanted to keep her near, to keep that physical contact. But the contact was quickly gone, almost like it had never happened; and he pushed out the thoughts that had forced their way into his mind. "Can't complain," he finished, trying his best to seem unphased by the touch, unsure if she had meant for it to happen. He usually did a great job of appearing unaffected.

"Ah, yes. I promised you a tour, didn't I." His eyes finally left her to search the mountain range as well. They did look inviting, he had to admit, with their dark, jagged tops and the sloping terrain leading to them. He knew parts of those mountains very well, and still parts he had never ventured to. "It's been quite a while since I left their perilous refuge." The mountains were indeed both perilous and a refuge to him. They held many dangers for the careless, but also kept out many prying souls. "Peaceful..." He looked back at Eydis and smiled, half smirking. "Yes, I believe I shall return there tonight, and I will show you everything I can recall from my time in those mountains."
