The sullen looking boy crouched by the pond, glaring at his reflection and willing his eyes to produce tears. Some believed that vampires cried blood, but all that he'd managed to produce so far was some pathetic whimpering noises, and those came from his chest instead of his eyes. Certainly the boy had never felt so very, very helpless before. Kaoru was displeased with him, for his actions before, for his very existence perhaps. And without Kaoru? There was no one. Literally no one. Qadir, so lost and troubled in his own world, hadn't even noticed that his son had stopped taking the blood supplement pills. He hadn't even noticed when Orpheus came home with blood on his fingers, though there had been the complaint of the smell, Qadir hadn't even pinpointed it properly.
Now, still with bloody fingers and taking a break from scrubbing them in the pond, the teen took a time out to think. To really think. What the hell was he supposed to be doing with himself anyway? First on his list was fixing his problems with Kaoru...but after that? What more was there? Surely there were other scents out there he could meet, surely there were other jobs he could get involved in. But who would want to meet him? Who would want to hire him? Shallowly, Orpheus conceded that everyone should want to know and hire him, there was nothing but good in store for those who were close to him. However, the tiniest of worries tickled in the back of his mind that perhaps he wasn't as great as he believed himself to be. That couldn't be it though, right?
With a growl, Orpheus pushed at the water to disrupt the reflection.

Remi normally was a little ray of sunshine. If not by her brilliant colored outfits then certainly her personality, which tended to make even the coldest hearts melt. Yet the gingerbread scent was not her cheerful self today, a cloud hung over her head and sadness masked her face.
It had taken awhile, certainly a long time to remember, but she had finally uncovered the mystery that was a repressed memory inside her head. Now she mourned what she had not known until now.
Slowly she approached the pond, and taking a deep breath she looked at herself. Her eyes weren't as bright as they should be, her face tugged into a frown that shouldn't be there, and even her comfortable green sweater, which easily passed as a dress on her small frame, seemed dim compared to how it usually was. Biting her lip the little girl was about to point out a few more things about herself when faint ripples distorted the surface. Glancing up she noticed another boy she could have sworn she'd seen before, but no names came to mind.

Orpheus' head snapped up at the sound of the girl coming into his little clearing, interrupting his moment with the pond and in general interrupting his day (well, early evening he should say, as the sun was sinking lower every minute). Pushing himself up out of his crouch, Orpheus stuffed his hands into his pockets and stared hard at the girl across the way, his dark eyes glinting with hidden red depths and his hair ever so slightly on the messy side.
Perhaps only Kaoru would have noticed the signs that he'd been out hunting. That he'd been out killing. Just animals of course. It made him sick to think about "taking a bite" out of any of the humans he lived with, and how long could they stay in their neighborhood if Orpheus went around eating and possibly killing others?
"You shouldn't be out here" he said in a low voice, though it carried easily to where she was sulking.

Fidgeting slightly under his stare she knew eventually he was going to say something, so she really shouldn't have jumped like that when he called out to her. Lately everything was scaring the living daylights out of the ginger haired child and Remi couldn't help but dislike it.
His voice was different then how she expected, not that she really expected anything at all to be honest, her experience with males was limited to Celyn, Kaleb and Ment, not your most masculine of examples. Though it was how he appeared that really made her squirm. He almost looked the role of the perfect bad guy who you just happen to run into on a dark night.... all alone.
Shaking her head she quickly got rid of that thought, for the situation fit too perfectly. "Uhh well I umm." Realizing she wasn't saying anything at all she stepped a little closer so her trembling voice didn't have to work so hard. "I know but I just had to....." Telling a stranger what you were up to was one of the things her mom had taught her to never do, and so Remi let her sentence trail off as she gazed at the pond, her mind quickly darting around from thought to thought.

Orpheus frowned at the girl and her rather feeble excuses. If he had been planning on being the bad guy, she'd be making for a really good target right about now. With a groan, the teen pulled one hand out of his pocket and reached to smooth out his hair. Noticing it still had traced of stubbornly dried blood on it though, he decided it would probably be best to leave them where they were and quickly tucked it out of sight once more.
"You're acting like a scared little rabbit," he said after a moment, the slighted grin appearing at the crook of his mouth. Certainly he'd seen enough of those in the recent days to know the signs of someone a little on the edge. Perhaps her mom had meant don't talk to strangers at all, for Orpheus would have laughed at the idea of not telling a stranger you were up to. Casually mentioning you were meeting a friend would go a long way in deterring a bad guy from attacking a little innocent.
Shifting his weight from one foot to the other, though no moving the slightest inch towards her, Orpheus said, "Maybe you should just go home. Rabbit shouldn't wander when the night approaches."

A.....rabbit? Did he really just suggest she was a rabbit?
Returning her eyes to the teen in front of her she couldn't help the small pout of a frown that appeared. Rabbits were poor helpless creatures that always seemed to be preyed upon. Though Remi sympathized with the dear little creatures she was not helpless......well so she was mostly helpless, still!
Swaying back and forth slightly in a strange habit she picked up she crossed her arms nervously. Trying to think up some kind of response she ended up flinging out a simple, "I'm not a rabbit.....I like the night and I'm not wandering, I'm staying right here." So maybe not the most clever response but Remi was a simple child, so it fit her nicely.

A snort cause Orpheus to move his hand to his mouth, covering his nose with fingers a strange, dark shade she likely couldn't recognize from the distance. Most humans didn't have sight like he possessed after all. Even from here he could spot those stray hairs that clung to her sweater and the icy resolve that formed in her eyes. "Perhaps not a rabbit then," he said, moving his hand from his mouth so she could hear him well enough.
"What kind of animal then? Perhaps a deer?" Rabbit never showed defiance, always a trembling horror of their impending doom, but deer had a tendency to be both terrified and stand their ground at the same time, just like little Remi was doing.
"Staying right there are you? What if I don't want you right there?" Orpheus frowned at the girl as he moved his hand back into his pants pocket, his brows furrowed irritably. This had been his spot to come and think and he wasn't pleased that she wasn't taking off like a shot into the dark.

Was he laughing now? Strange that something like a snort could be a kind of laughter, or she assumed it was because why else would he have put his hand to his mouth like that? Relaxing slightly she was glad he agreed, she just couldn't seem to let the idea of her being a rabbit stay in someones mind.
"A deer....." Well that did fit her a little more but still not as much as she wanted. "Maybe, it does fit me better then a rabbit but it still doesn't seem quite right. Perhaps a reindeer." It fit who she was more, and as a Christmas scent she needed a more Christmas animal. Tapping her finger against her lips she nodded slowly, jiggling her clip around with each motion.
"You don't like me being here?" Her eyes widened at him and she instantly felt bad. Rem had never intended to interrupt him, she had come here to think herself and actually wouldn't have started talking to him had he not spoken first. "Well if you don't like me here then...." Suddenly she was hit with an idea that her naturally playful attitude could not pass up, stepping forward she leaned towards him a little and let a small cheerful smile light up her face. "Then do you like me right here better?"

"Can you fly?" he asked with a clearly dismissive tone. Of course the little girl couldn't fly. How could she be a reindeer if she couldn't even fly? No, deer was as exciting as she was going to ever manage to be. Not that deer are very interesting to begin with mind you. Better to be a deer than a rabbit though!
When she moved in closer to him Orpheus recoiled, taking two steps back and baring his his sharp teeth glinting in the white of the moonlight. At least the snarl didn't escape him - no need to be a total monster to the young one. " Perhaps I don't want you here for your own safety," the vampire snapped with irritation.
Kids these days! Did they ever listen to their olders and their betters? All the better for the girl that he'd just eaten and had his emotions and impulses under control.

Oh........she hadn't thought of that. So maybe reindeer was out of the question, a sad thought, but one Remi quickly got rid of. She wasn't an animal, technically she wasn't even a human. She was a scent child and because of that she was special in her own way. How many other people can claim they smell like gingerbread without even trying?
Smiling to herself she hardly noticed when the boy stepped back, only taking notice once a glint of moonlight hit her eyes......and last she checked she was pretty sure it was up in the sky not across from her. Turning large green eyes she noticed she wasn't with an ordinary human either, she had never seen such sharp teeth! What in the world was he? "My own safety? Well I'm not here alone, I'm with you right now. You could probably take on anything!" Giggling slightly Remi covered her mouth, she was joking of course. She knew that being alone at night is a dangerous thing, but Neena was around somewhere. If someone bad really showed up then all Rem had to do was scream and the cat woman would come running.

Gingerbread...was she truly prideful of smelling like such a thing? It was not one of the greater scents to be experienced by a discerning palette. Indeed, the spice could be so overwhelming as to send the smeller into a fit of sneezing of which even the most outstanding of gentlemen would look the fool. The scent was almost messy in texture. Messy and childish if this girl Remi was any sort of embodiment. Now, were she to be pleased over having the refined scent of a certain flower? The teenager would be unable to fault her for such.
Orpheus' fingers clenched in and out of fists as he tried to think of something other than attempting to shake some sense into the girl. Her words were so...so very vapid. "Indeed. I can take on anything," he said through clenched teeth, a little rumble of irritation following the arrogant tone. But what was the point of being able to take on anything if you were just the think you should be 'taking on'?
With a squint in his eyes the teen turned his head, brooding over the options he didn't feel like he had. Surely he could not simply run into the woods and leave a little thing like the scent child in the darkness by herself. Monster he was, cruel he didn't need to be. Nor could he simply spirit her away into the night, a little indent in the grass the only proof that she'd been there at all. "Where is your home? I'll walk you there."

Well she wasn't exactly making a good impression on him now was she? Certainly she didn't expect to make a great one but he seemed more then a little upset at her being there....and though she would have loved to stare into the pool for awhile longer she finally realized how dark it was getting. Shivering slightly she gave a worried glance around her. Where was Neena? The cat demon had promised to stay within ear shot, and though her bedtime wasn't usually very early still her mom would be getting worried if she stayed out much later. "Well Neena should have come back for me by now....I don't know what's keeping her." Sighing Remi shuffled her feet, glancing up at the teen in front of her nervously. "I suppose it wouldn't hurt for you to take me home...Auntie will figure it out...hopefully. This isn't the first time she's done something like this anyway."
Slowly walking up next to him she realized how short she really was. "My name is Remi. I live a bit away in the lower middle class part of town...it shouldn't take too long." Biting her lip she gave him an apologetic look. "I'm sorry if I made you angry....you don't have to do this, I can walk home on my own."
