Lend me your ear!
...Heed my words. ℜogvald xxxxxSeveral days passed since the coronation of King James and Rogvald was hard at work trying discover the secrets the former captain Rath had before being arrested. It turned out, he was very lenient. So many people got off easy for the things they did. Certain things could not be proven, but Rogvald had found out enough so that more than just Rath would be on trial. And the advisor had taken it upon himself to have a number of individuals summoned for the trial. He gave no indications as to why the people were being summoned, of course. They would find out soon enough.
xxxxxInside Fefga Manor, Rogvald stood atop a raised platform with a desk in front of him. The manor had been selected to hold the trial as it seemed to be the most suiting location. It was an open trial, any citizen was welcome to watch. Some guild members and Learanians alike had already come and taken their seats. The more that came, the louder it got in the room. Once a guard assured Rogvald that all those that needed to come that could come were present, the advisor banged his gavel on the desk. "Silence! This trial shall now begin."
xxxxxAn eye glass was picked up from the surface of the desk. Rogvald looked over the papers in front of him closely. "Hm... Ah, yes. We shall start with a fairly recent event that has come to my attention. I call forth Officer Leon of the Watch!" Rogvald waited patiently, looking over some papers while he waited for the man to step forward. Once he had, the papers were placed down and Rogvald look down at him. "You are accused of instigating bloodshed. It seems your battle hunger was the first act of violence that began the battle at Sires. You blatantly ignored the orders of your commander, Lady Ayra, and because of that it shall ever be known in History that Learania attacked first! However, since we are not in the vulgar days of old, where anybody in power could accuse somebody of wrongdoing and send them to prison, you have the right to defend yourself. So then! Officer Leon... how do you plead?"
I advise you to listen. Not doing so could prove... deadly.
(Anybody can post, thus revealing their attendance. You will be notified when the time comes if Rogvald calls you forth.)

I ain't gonna give in, no matter how hard the fight before me looks to be!>x-{Leon}-x< This was, to say the least, the last thing the Leon imagined for himself. Him, being on trial for a crime rather than being a witness or the hero that brought in the criminal! It was something that he never expected, not even if his somewhat questionable past were to be brought up by one of the few people that he ever got to break the unfortunate news to. Of all places, he never, ever expected to end up here, on the Defendant's stand. But here he was, one of the most prominent members of the Watch, facing trial for something that was questionable at best as to whether or not it was an actual crime. The system, used against him... he never thought he'd see the day.
But here he was, regardless of whether or not he imagined himself here. He would have to speak, with conviction and honesty if he was to walk away where he belonged, back on the streets and bringing in the true criminals of Eyris City. "Sir, with all due respect..." he begun, making sure that his tone was not shaky with nervousness or doubt. So far, so good, so he continued. "There had been a misunderstanding, but certainly not a disobedience of orders. Lady Ayra had warned us before hand that the situation in Sires was indeed dire, so when I saw the fires, and the few fighters out, I'd taken it as a warning that the city was already invaded, and acted accordingly."
He then looked to see some of his fellows that had been with him during his time in Sires, wondering if they would take the stand for him. If they did, it would mean that they too would risk their careers, lives, pride and everything else, but... they were all the types who would do what's right in the end. Javert, Joshua, Ayra, everyone. They were Learanian soldiers, and they always did what was right no matter what the situation. "Surely, one of my companions will tell you that I'm not one who's prone to unnecessary violence. Any of them would say that, even those... who don't know me very well, know me well enough from my work here to say that I'm not a man who instigates bloodshed, sir. I'd have a record, otherwise, and no officer could have a record, if I'm not mistaken." It was then, when he wondered who would stand as a character witness, if anyone. Hopefully at least Javert would, as he'd worked with close quarters with Leon, being the same rank and stature in the Watch. He would be as good of witness as any.
>≡{Watch Lieutenant}≡< If ya just believe, then even if the world is torn asunder, yer gonna seize victory!

"You can't blame yourself. Blaming yourself and falling into depression, it won't change anything. You have to look →forward→. Remember what you have here now. Just think; if you hadn't come here, you wouldn't have met anyone here from Elibe or anywhere else!" {Amelia}Having the trial at the manor was certainly more problematic than Rogvald might assume. Amelia sat in silence near the back of the trial, quietly bouncing Aisen in her arms. He had been disturbed rather rudely from his nap by the sudden arrival of the advisor and the other individuals brought forth to this entire gathering. They certainly didn't seem to be leaving anytime soon, however.
Amelia rubbed Aisen's back, trying to soothe him a little. "Silence! This trial shall now begin!"
The General's passive silence broke as he first called forth Leon. Leon? What could Leon have done to be put on the spot like this...? Amelia sat up a little, watching Leon warily.
Amelia couldn't help but hold back a quiet scoff, watching Rogvald and Leon with the same warmth she might reserve for a bandit being arrested by another Watch member. I'll believe that you'll listen to what anyone has to say as soon as you release Rath from whatever punishment you've placed upon him. But not like anyone would listen to her, right? She was just the newest Crew member, along with Skrimir. No one was going to listen to her, and certainly not this man.
It didn't make sense to her, at least. If Rath really had done something to Nino, or Nino had done something to begin with and it had to be covered up, didn't it make more sense to keep him where he could be spoken to more easily? Jailing a man wasn't likely to make him more willing to speak, and certainly not a stoic man like Rath. Amelia held her tongue, though. Rogvald was in no mindset to listen to her, much less anyone else.
You don't deserve to be jailed, Leon. Make Rogvald listen to you...! Please! {Graceful Spear} "What... I mean is... Being a member of the holy order doesn't mean you can't put your own wants first sometimes. The goddess is supposed to be all‑forgiving, right? You've worked hard and you deserve to do some things that make you happy. I think she'd forgive you for it."

Standing behind Rogvald as he ordered for silence was the paladin herself. She was here to give protection to the adviser in case something went wrong in the trial. The Dame Knight was unsure why they were holding the trial in Fefga's Manor. Was it to make the "accusers" feel more like welcomed home? From what Isadora saw, this was more of a mocking to them. Teasing the accusers that they were innocent but not. How dared that old git taunt them.
When Rogvald announced the first suspect, Isadora widened her eyes in shock. Leon? Why would Rogvald call forth Leon to the stand? He was one of the best Watch members she met.
It was then that she heard what was Leon accused of: disobedience to the captain and drawing out the first blood. The paladin shook her head. No, Leon wasn't the type to disobey an order. Maybe Leon was being reckless during the battle like he did during the Estarcia war. Surely, he didn't mean to do so. Although the paladin was unsure what had happened during Sires, she knew fully well that Leon wasn't a blood-thirsty fellow to do it.
She watched as Leon tried to defend himself, showing that he was accused falsely for what he did. The paladin hoped that Leon's reasons would be good enough for the adviser to let him go easy. It would upset her if Leon was punished for something he didn't mean to.

"Hey Ammy I- uh."
Lyre had stopped by as she usually did, to share some leftovers from the cafe with Amelia and her husband... but unbeknownst to her, there was this huge block of people hanging out in the manor house at the moment and apparently no one had felt like, you know, maybe putting up some sort of "Court In Session" sign or anything...
Well, at least she had decided against bringing over that fresh deer she'd caught. It would have at least livened up the atmosphere, though. It certainly was drab, at the moment.
She inched along the wall, and plopped down next to the general.
"...What... in the world... is going on... in your living room...?" She whispered purposefully louder than what a whisper needed to be. Honestly, how rude was it to invade someone's living space, and then to top it all off host an entire court proceeding?
"...I brought some donuts. They're fruit filled."

Lend me your ear!
...Heed my words. ℜogvald xxxxxEarlier, when Rogvald talked about not being in the vulgar days of old, he was correct. Anybody disliked could be thrown in prison at a moment's notice. Things had developed greatly since then. But in the present days, there was no such thing as innocent before proven guilty. People were accused with reason and given a chance to tell their side, but the accuser most likely already had his mind made up. That was how things were done. And it was called justice.
xxxxxWhen the officer finished, Rogvald scoffed. "A misunderstanding? That is your excuse? Then you should have made sure you did understand! You saw fires, you saw soldiers, but until you acted, Mordache had not begun attacking any Learanian soldier. That is the point. You acted on your own, without authorization from your commander." Rogvald glanced at a paper before continuing. "Still, I must admit, your record is mostly spotless. Fortunate for you, Lady Ayra has already consulted with me. However, this matter cannot be ignored. Because of your recklessness, Learania will be seen as the villains of that battle! There must be justice. Therefore, I will not send you to prison! Instead... you are hereby stripped of your rank and membership with the Watch." He rummaged through the papers and pulled one out in front. "...Please hand over any weapon, uniform and insignia you received from the Watch on your way out, sir, and clear the floor for the next case."
xxxxxRogvald kept his head down and paid no more attention to the former officer. He was finished with him. "Next, I call Roy of Pharae, Melethia Dagon, Blossom Ch-.. Chev..erella, and Lance Dartel. Come forth immediately!" He continued to review the papers in front of him, then lowered it once three of the four people he had called were in front of him.
xxxxxHe looked them over, then back to the paper. One of the females was missing- one who was supposed to have red hair. "Where is Melethia Dagon?! Oh, never mind! We will proceed. It has come to my awareness that during last winter, while Learania headed Estarcia's call for aid, you all took part in the murder of Estarcians in Restia! While I doubt all of you actually took the lives, you were still there and could have prevented it. Furthermore, you did nothing about it after it occurred like you should have! The unfortunate deaths could have been overlooked and reparations given, but when you ignored these deaths and pretended they did not happen, they became murders. How do you plead?"
I advise you to listen. Not doing so could prove... deadly.

A young, scraggly man wandered aimlessly about the town that was to be his new home. "The streets are bare, I wonder if they're always like this," was what he thought to himself. Rahkain received information from a shopkeeper about an event going on at someplace called "Fefga's manor". The stranger was kind enough to lead him there. When he reached the manor, Rahkain looked up at it pensively. Some kind of trial was taking place inside. As it was obviously open to the public, he entered. "Might as well learn something. This looks big," he muttered. He spotted an open chair in the crowd and moved through them to get to it. He sat down and looked up at the man who was speaking. He was calling some random people up, stumbling over one of the names then jabbering something about murdering Estarcians. "Murderers, huh?" he thought to himself that the people that stood did not strike him as murderers. And one was a woman. He looked again at the man at the front. He looked very old... and almost creepy. Rahkain had to admit to himself... If this was the man that was going to lead his new home, he wasn't sure he wanted to stay...

...Injured with pain and sadness, the you that cannot be healed Shoulder the burden of the past that cannot be erased; don't throw away your will to live...→Things were going downhill fast. It seemed only hours after returning to Eyris, Rath had been taken away for something and now this young boy was king. And before she could even get adjusted to that change, his creepy advisor was arranging a trial. All of the guild members were required to come. Or were they not? Blossom wasn't sure, and in any case, it was probably better to come and simply watch rather than not be there if she got pulled up to the stand, for whatever reason.
She stared at her hands, quietly listening as Rogvald spoke to Leon and he in return. She didn't like being back in Eyris. She needed to get out of here. See about getting some mercenary work or something, anything to keep her out of town for a little while longer. Maybe--
"...Blossom Ch-...Chev...erella, and Lance Dartel. Come forth immediately!"
The sounds of the room dulled, and her face went pale. She felt her mouth open a little, but slowly rose to her feet and shuffled forward, clutching tightly onto her ragged red scarf. She could hardly register what was going on around her, but every word hit her like a sack of bricks, penetrating right to her core.
"It has come to my awareness that during last winter, while Learania headed Estarcia's call for aid, you all took part in the murder of Estarcians in Restia!
Blossom began to tremble. Her eyes were wide, staring at Rogvald's papers in bewildered fear. Murder of Estarcians in Restia. Estarcians. Murdered. The memory of the blast came back, and the trembling intensified.
"I didn't... d-didn't know that... I-I wasn't to-told that... and I-I didn't..." Blossom could hardly keep herself coherent for the fear thrumming through her body. Jail. Jail sentence. For a misunderstanding. The concept nearly ripped a terrified squeak from her throat, but she managed to swallow it down. "I didn't kn-know they were Estarcians, I didn't re-recognize their ar-armor and... and n-no one told me they were... I-I'm sorry, I... I wouldn't ha-have if I'd... if I'd known...!" Blossom seemed terrifyingly close to breaking down right then and there, clutching onto her father's scarf hard enough to turn her knuckles white. "I-I'm sorry... P-Please, I'm sorry...!"← You'd better forget everything. Remember. . . your different Life?XXX You'd better forget everything. I fought my battles with honor, I let chivalry be my only reason... But yet, it was never enough.~x -{Leon}- x~Justice's CrusaderAnd so, Lieutenant Leon Vatara got his sentence. It was a sentence that he considered far worse than death, than imprisonment, than even execution as far as he was concerned. Hand over your badge, give up your career, turn in your weapons, and be reduced to a shell of whom you once were. Rogvold had no idea what he'd done to the young man's hopes, his pride, his honor. Or maybe he did know, which is why he gave Leon such a very painful sentence. He didn't even give Leon's companions a chance to stand for him! That conniving snake...
"Ya know what, SIR. Ya can't fire me from the Watch, because I QUIT." He said in the most sharp tone he could muster, Ripping off his insignia and placing it in front of the man who robbed him of everything that made him who he was. Curling his fists in anger, the now former Lieutenant stormed out of the room without a word. He had a billion curses that he wanted to say to the adviser's name, a dozen insults and even more words that he wouldn't dare say in front of even the most hardened of his... former companions in the Watch. But he said none of them. It was best that he said no more, or else he might be further in trouble.
So, it was off the Watch house, for the last time, most likely. If only he wouldn't have been so careless! If only he hadn't have made assumptions and just listened to orders, listened to reason. Now he had nothing. It felt almost again, like he was lost in the snows, alone with no one who'd care for him, with nothing to fight for. He had so many apologies to make. He had so many reasons to be ashamed for. "Leena... Magnet... Javert... Dan... everyone... I cannot be your knight anymore. I cannot raise a weapon, I cannot defeat the evil-doers of our streets... it's all up to you guys now." He thought with great regret. Now, it was time to turn in his poleaxe, steel sword and lance, and his normal traveler's rations. Pretty soon, it would just be him and Anri once again.☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆Can the defeated rise again? Can the one without a title still fight for what is right?

Its not my fault you’re such a moron
Derrin, One Step From the Edge Just leave me alone ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Derrin's frown deepened as Roy and the others were called up to the stand. An uneasy feeling was slowly taking root in the pit of his stomach. If Rogvald was going to re-hash the Estarcian events, it was likely that someone would question what had caused the negotiations to get so bent out of shape in the first place. That would lead back to him. He'd be asked why he had attacked that woman Cyric had been attempting to parlay with. Hell, if someone with a good imagination and solid determination thought about it, Derrin could be blamed for causing the war to continue longer then it would have otherwise. Why had he done it then? Did he simply not hear the order? While it was true that the mage hadn't heard the order not to interfere, it wouldn't have taken a six year old to figure out what Cyric was doing. No, Derrin had been fully aware of what he was interrupting.
The reason for Derrin choice was simple. He'd seen an opportunity to eliminate a higher enemy officer and had taken it. The enemy had invaded Estarcia unprovoked. Why would they be interested in peace? Better to kill an important officer then to waste time playing at peace! Was he the only one who understood that? Either way, it didn't matter. This Rogvald was obviously bent on incapacitating Learania by holding these... Pig Trials! Perhaps he was secretly working for Mordache? Derrin didn't know. Derrin didn't care. He felt zero obligation to this land and its people.
The only thing he cared about now was making sure his a** didn't get arrested. Leaning over, he whispered in Clara's ear.
"I might have to go away for a while. Don't wait up for me. No matter what happens, I love you." He spoke hurriedly and quietly.
"Quickly then, do it." He thought as his expression turned to one of rage, anger and disgust.
"YOU b***h!" He screamed at Clara. "How could you do this to me?" Still screaming he stood up, face red with anger.
"How could you cheat on me?! With him?! Of all people, him?! Why Clara? Do you enjoy seeing me like this? Look! Look and see what you've done to me, dammit!" Derrin's eyes welled up with tears of anger and rage. Suddenly, as if he had just become aware that they were being watched, the mage looked up at those assembled. "I-I'm sorry. I... I need to be alone."
Knowing it would be unlikely that the guards would just let him out the front door, the mage instead hustled toward the bathroom. Head lowered, he only spared the guard a tearful glance as he closed the door behind him.
Derrin then launched into the best theatrics of his life. Loud enough for only the guard outside to hear, he wailed. "Why?! Why?! No, s-she couldn't. Whyyyyyy?!" Sobbing, with occasional gasps of air, he cried his heart out. The tears were sincere, even if the situation was not. Derrin was imagining that this had actually happened and could feel the pain in his heart like a knife.
He continued on like this for another six or so minutes before falling silent. It took another two before the guard outside opened the door hesitantly.
He found what appeared to be a broken man slumped against the wall with his head in his hands. Derrin softly spoke. "She cheated on me... can you believe it? I saved her life... and she does this..." He heaved as another sob shook him. "Just... just give me another ten minutes to get composed, I-I can't go out there and see her right now." Derrin broke down into quiet tears again.
The guard must have complied as the mage heard the door shut again, tentatively Derrin raised his head. Seeing he was alone again, he quietly got to his feet and stepped up to the window, masking any sounds that would indicate something was amiss with loud sobbing noises.
Doing the same as he opened and crawled out the window, the mage smiled as he hit the ground and found there to be no sign of any guards on this side of the manor. Derrin made good on his escape. he'd take nothing with him. Nothing but what he had on him. Adilana, the plains, he'd go there and wait for everything to cool down. Once this had all been settled, he'd return and apologies to Clara. With that in mind, Derrin left the manor behind.
When that guard came into check on him five minutes later, he found an empty room. Rogvald was gonna be piiiised.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please... Magic is my life, my soul, my heart

Rhys... tried to maintain a temper, he really did. He and Amelia had both known full well that Fefga's wasn't exactly a totally private residence. It had the Door, for Ashera's sake. All the same, it was surprisingly rude of James and his right-hand man to just come barging in here with the extent of "OKAY WE'RE TAKING THIS FOR A COURTROOM TODAY". Just... really freaking rude. He'd stuck around at first, if only to reassure anyone he might know who wound up on the stand. But Aisen was getting fussy, and Rhys had a feeling that if all these strange folk didn't leave at once he was just going to start crying. Loudly.
"I'll take him upstairs," Rhys said, removing Aisen from his wife's arms. Cradling his son gently in his own, Rhys added, "I'll see you when this is over. I think I'd best keep him company." He then went upstairs and out of sight, Aisen whining all the way. Only when they got out of sight and more or less out of hearing did Rhys begin to calm his son down. It took some doing (Amelia was better at it than he was), but found that a mix of speaking softly and rocking the baby put Aisen back to nappy-bye.
The Saint sighed. He hadn't known Leon particularly well, but he hadn't seemed like a bad person. And wasn't it Mordache that had taken Sires in the first place? Now Rhys was generally an optimistic (and at times gullible), sun-shiny kind of guy, but even he could smell "ulterior motive" for Leon's quick trial.
WELL, at least he was supposed to be knighted...
--------
Ghis had also shown up to this. The trials, after all, were a job for the Watch, and none others. The Guard had better things to do with their time than stand around in a courtroom doing nothing in particular. Nothing was a better deterrent to doing something rash than seeing three hundred pounds of armor in the same room as you, and you were unarmed.
He hadn't moved, even with the verdict passed down to Leon. Yeah, it was harsh. Any fool could've seen that. But Ghis, in spite of who he is, is a man of the law. If the law demands that Leon removed from the Watch, there was little he could do.
"..."
Didn't mean he liked it. But he enforced the world's brand of justice.

Clara had heard what Derrin said. He might have to go away for a while.
"But Derrin I told you where I would be going if things got bad." She whispered back to him. Her eyes then widen as Derrin went and called her a b***h.
"WHAT!?" She yelled back as tears started to form in her eyes. "I THOUGHT YOU LOVED ME! WHAT DID I DO!? I DIDN'T CHEAT ON YOU! WHO THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!? NOW YOU ARE LEAVING WITH OUT TALKING TO ME!? FINE SEE IF I CARE!?" She sat back down in her seat and continued to cry.
"What is he doing!?" She had no clue as to what Derrin was doing she was really confused."IS HE ON SOMETHING!? WHY WOULD I CHEAT ON HIM!?"

Things would have gone accordingly to the mage's plan... However, he made a minor error to his plan.
Just when the mage was making his move to escape, a guard who was on patrol spotted the mage. That mage.... He was acting suspicious. What was that mage doing? Could it.... Could it be that the mage had done something heinous?!
Fear for the safety of those who were in the manor and around, the guard pulled out his horn and blew the alarm. The guards nearby heard the sound of alarm and ran toward where the alarm was made.
"Stop that man!" The guard shouting as he pointed to the man in red robe who tried to make an escape.
Learanian soldiers began to chase him. Two of the soldiers threw their javelins at the mage to prevent him from running. One of the soldiers climbed onto his horse while holding the net and began to chase after him. If the mage tried to attack him, he would made sure he would find a way to stop the mage.
Just as he came close to the mage, the cavalier threw an iron net over the mage. This would prevent the mage from running and attacking. Even if the mage managed to dodge the net, there were soldiers after him to prevent him from escaping the law.
....Mage.

Derrin, One Step From the Edge Just leave me alone ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Whoops Derrin spoke too soon, he was spotted by a passing guard. Great and the guard was blowing his horn, time to go. Derrin immediately began running towards the forest if he could make it into the woods... Something thudded into the ground to his right, it didn't really register until an indentical one landed infront of him and to the left.
"Javelins? They're using lethal force already?" Spurred on by this new development Derrin sped up, since he wasn't encumbered by armour the mage should be able to outrun them.
Horse hooves behind him shattered that hope, Derrin began slowing down until the hooves drew closer. Once he figured that the rider was almost apon him he planted his foot down and turned on a ninety degree angle dropping his shoulder as he did. Without noticing it a net landed behind the mage, a few seconds later and he was running through the forest, twisting and changing his path now to make it harder for those following him.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please... Drat, that mage managed to dodge the net. However, he could not escape from the law so easily.
While the mage was busied twisting and changing his path, the soldiers continued chasing him straight forward. Why bother chasing his odd path where he would cross path with them?
The cavalier continued to chase the mage, watching him closely as he made those twisted path. He quickly pulled out a javelin from the side and kicked his horse to speed up. That mage may be a speedy one. However, his speed could not outrun the horse.
As he got closer to the mage, the cavalier jabbed his javelin into the mage's cloak. To make sure that it wouldn't break easily, the soldier twirled his weapon around, having the cloak wrapped around the javelin before piercing it into the ground. This would make the mage choke if he continued to run and later be pinned to the ground.
Once the mage was pin, other soldiers came and jumped on the mage, dogpiling him. To make sure that the mage wasn't going to use any tricks, the soldiers patted him to take away his weapon and accessories while the cavalier pulled out the rope from the saddlebag. After making sure that the mage didn't have any items to help him escape, the soldiers quickly tied his hands, legs, and arms to the sides before throwing him over to the horse.
Satisfied of capturing the suspicious fellow, the soldiers congratulated themselves before heading back to the manor. They needed to inform the captain and the adviser about this culprit. Who knew what did he do? So away they go to the manor to hand over the person of interest. If the mage tried to talk himself out of it, it would be futile for him to persaude them. Not even trying to escape from them would help him now that he was all tied up. This was what happened when you tried to escape from the law instead of trying to reason with them in the first place.
