I was messing around on Urban Dictionary today and decided to look up Wiccan and see what everyone had to say. I was shocked and appalled.
Characteristics of Wiccans
They loathe Christianity because they didn't like it or actually believe it wiped out their religion's history. Christianity did not kill the practice of witchcraft; on the contrary, it had tremendous influence on occult techniques. Even Wiccan ritual is based on Christian mysticism, via the Masons, the Golden Dawn, and that nasty-black-magician Crowley. Casting a circle, evoking with incense, and calling quarters all came originally from various Christian mystics. If you've ever seen any pre-newage books on witchcraft, you'll know that they're absolutely packed with references to God, Jesus, Lucifer, demons, angels, and the like. It's quite the opposite of what you've been led to expect by "Wiccan" authors, who insist that the stealing was the other way 'round.
They already had an interest in magic, fairies, and mythology which is all pretty kick a** (specially' the fairies), but they took it upon themselves to learn and believe they could wield what they love in a way that makes them feel truely special. Wiccans always join the clan because they want to do what Harry Potter or Sabrina does, are often a little let down, but they still study all they can to be the best darn witch they can be.
They are pretty much all teenagers, and it is a phase. More and more kids buy books at Barns and Nobel about it, and more and more kids throw the same books out when they grow out of it. Very few, and very hilariously tragic people stay in the religion.
they pretty much all yield the same mindset, which is very similar to the goth mindset which is that dark, misunderstood, and mysterious things are the best kind of things in life, and they are all true. These are kids looking for a way out of reality because they feel they don't fit in enough at school, or with friends, and also have a number of personal issues, running from being overweight, can't get a girlfriend/boyfriend, or their parents are crazy fundamentalists and this is the way to strike back!
Of course not all Wiccans are like this, but it's so common, you wonder where stereotypes come from.
Stereotypes include but aren't limited to
being fat
wearing mostly black
not very appealing
pretentious as hell
and just lost in a fantasy world
they usually find others very similar to them, and spread the wiccan word, or maybe get lucky and find a member of the "occult"
these people aren't bad people, but often the rejected people of society got that way because of their personality, not their wardrobegoths and wiccas aren't the same but they go together like peanut butter and jelly
and another:
a person who practices wicca. for the most part, wiccans are stupid pc idiots who don' t even know the history of their own religion. they love to take offense at phrases like ' dark magic' or ' evil witch. ' the few wiccans who actually have some concept of reality, are usually cool intelligent people who are more often than not irritated by the trend followers who give their beliefs a bad name.my family has been wiccan for generations. i' m going to see where my ancestors were burned in salem.
you idiot, wicca didn' t even exist fifty years ago. go burn some incense or something.
stop persecuting me! aiee!
Gosh I wish people weren't so... ignorant... I'd love to educate them. Educate them in the act of hitting them in the face with a rusy iron door knob. *growls* Whew... I'm okay... anyone else think this is as freaking stupid as I do?
