Engineered Explosives (artifact) X Suburst 2: Sacrifice engineered Explosives. Destroy each nonland permanent with converted mana cost equal to the number of charge counters on Engineered Explosives
Pros: Mass destruction. Ideal for getting rid of cheap creatures used to overwhelm you.
Cons: Can hit your own creatures. Cost has to match the number of charge counters. Effectively works only with decks supporting more than one color.
Culling Scales (artifact) 3 At the beginning of your upkeep, destroy target nonland permanent with the lowest converted mana cost (if two or more permanents are tied, target any one of them)
Pros: Can get rid of those annoying, cheap creatures. Stays in play. Can destroy itself when the big creatures come out.
Cons: Opponents can stop playing cheap cards until it leaves play or decimates your army of cheap cards.
So, which would go better in a deck?

it all depends on the deck and the metagame. if you're running an aggro deck, the explosives will probably be more effective because you can make it avoid hitting your own creatures by getting the right number of counters. in a creatureless deck, the scales could be good sb tech against aggro to eat away at their creatures. haha, i prefer oblivion stone either way, just because of tooth and nail days, but it's everybody's own preference.

You can also add Darksteel Ingot, because it's indestructible but you CAN target it; this will leave Culling Scales in play, trying to destroy the Ingot instead over and over, if your opponent doesn't have other permanents left...

Bah....
Engineered Explosives is so much better it is crazy.
Scales has to make it to your upkeep.
Engineered Explosives= nope sac it when ever
Scales has to have a deck built around it
Engineered Explosives= nope(hopefully a few colors but still ok if only 1 or 2)
Scales doesn't stop hordes
Engineered Explosives does
Scales is the only card that has its effect
Engineered Explosives or Plague boiler or Pernicious Deed or Nervials Disk.
All kill what you want them to.

Plus, you can play engineered explosives with the hunted creatures, and kill the tokens that come into play.
