Fura had made her way to the mouth of their den painfully slowly, but she had made it. She laid just outside the den now, basking in the sun. It felt good on the darker patches of her fur, and the feel of the breeze on her fur was soothing. She tipped her head up slightly and closed her eyes, closing off the present world and losing herself in the pure world of sensation. It made it easier to relax and keep her naturally good spirits.

Nev had gone off to do... whatever it was pads did. Which she still was terribly unclear on. At this point, it was mightily clear that females (banus?) tended the den, hunted for the food, bore cubs and tended them, and otherwise kept their pad happy. What exactly that left him to do, she had no clue. One thing that was obvious to her was that whatever a pad did, it was staggeringly important to Nev that he do it. She had yet to tap into the depths of why all this was so important to him that he'd strike her, but she hoped eventually to be able to find out the reason why.

For now, she enjoyed being left to her own devices, even if she was effectively restricted to the den. She didn't mind, for wandering around a strange pride might very well get her in trouble, especially if the rules here were as restricting as Nev made them appear to be. Surely it was safe enough to lie here in the open and enjoy the spectacular weather, right?

Hester eyed the dark-colored female with some wariness. She was obviously new, since the adolescent had never seen her before. And she was obviously still unfamiliar with the pride's rules and traditions. Why members did what they did.

She had first noticed the adult lioness when she had begun to drag herself back to her den. Slowly. It looked painful; it hadn't taken long for Hester to figure out that the lioness's foot was injured.

For some reason, it struck Hester rather harshly and suddenly that she needed to go speak to this lioness. To say what, she wasn't sure...she couldn't very well warn her about anything. But perhaps she could help her in some way. She could offer comfort, or companionship. Something.

So, with a quickly-beating heart and many nervous glances in different directions, Hester slowly padded up closer to the lioness as she lay in the sun near the opening of her Pad's den.

Fura opened her eyes at the sound of paw-falls approaching. Before even opening her eyes, though, she knew it wasn't Nev returning. The sound was too light, too soft, and much too hesitant. Blinking sunspots from her vision, she turned a smile to whomever it was coming near.

As it turned out, she was quite correct in it being noone the size or personality of Nev. This was a young female, probably an adolescent, that was looking very skittish indeed. She warmed her smile further, adding genuine welcome to it. "Oh good, it was getting lonely sitting here all by myself." Using her uninjured forepaw, she patted the ground beside herself. "Come join me for a sun bath?" This was only the second member of the pride she'd seen so far, and was eager to learn more about her new home.

She might have to take it slow with this little femme, though. She looked as likely to bolt as to relax in the sun beside Fura. Attempting to put the youngster at ease, Fura kept her tone light and bouncy. "I'm Fura, and I'm new here. What's your name?"

Though it was certainly nice and friendly for the lioness--Fura, she had introduced herself as--Hester hesitated and only sat down somewhat close to her new acquaintance. The sun was nice and warm and very inviting for a sun bath, but her nerves were getting at her already, and it was only another female. Her tail was twitching, though not as much as it usually did. Which was a good sign, at least.

"Hester," she replied softly, avoiding Fura's eyes. A small breeze flitted through and wound itself around the two females.

"I thought you were new here," she continued, glancing at Fura's gaze. Then she glanced at her injured paw, but quickly looked away. "How do you like it here so far? It's nothing like the rogue lands, I imagine." She couldn't know for sure how the outside world was compared to home. This pride was all Hester had ever known.

She tried, but she couldn't suppress a heavy sigh at the question. She laid her head on her paws gingerly and cast a sideways look at her new little friend. "Well, it's hard to say how I like it, and whether or not it's much different from the roguelands," she admitted. I've only met Nev, my Pad, and the sultan, and now you." She cracked a rueful smile. "I'm very new you see." She hadn't brought up her ankle as yet... and that was somewhat on purpose. Partly she didn't want to worry the young one, but also she simply felt it was a private matter between herself and Nev. It was for them to work out together, and wasn't fodder for discussion with others.

"So why don't you tell me what it is like here?" She raised her head and tipped it encouragingly. "I'm all ears!" Comically she waggled her ears and smiled. "Nev hasn't had much... time," she hedged, "to tell me much about the pride." She gave the smaller female her full attention. "You must know all about the things I should know, right?"
