Akatsuki members aren't expected to stay around the base all of the time. Towards the back of the Akatsuki Base is a wonderful waterfall that has an amazing view. The water is refreshing and cleansed, and many animals stop by for a drink. Ninjas may stay here to enjoy the serene view of the waterfall as well as to get some fresh air. Members may also, if allowed by the leader, travel to other countries/villages for espionage, as well as getting to know the ninja world. However, the only exit, besides the Forest of Eternal Daybreak, is the waterfall, the other two directions leading to numerous traps and dangerous seals.
Upon leaving the waterfall, the barrier around the base casts a sealing jutsu that, whenever someone leaves the base, casts a "Henge no Jutsu" on them to replace them with a completely different look, smell, and voice. This allows for the Akatsuki to keep up with their secret affairs without having anyone notice. The members are given a choice whether to disable the henge or not to, but msot times, they opt to keep up the disguise.
