It had been a few days since Adalia had discovered that fallen star within the alley near her favorite cafe and she had just completed another check up on the star. While on her way home her stomach let out a strange gurgle and as her hands flew to her stomach in surprise, she realized that she had forgotten to have breakfast that very morning. A bemused grin grew on her face as Adalia realized she had just pulled a "Fiach" as she fondly called it when someone's stomach erupted in hungry growls much as her brother's did several times a day. And it wasn't even that he forgot to eat! Just that his metabolism was high enough he ate a lot of food daily to get by. Sometimes Adalia was jealous of her brother for his figure and how he could eat what he wanted without worry while she had to work out to maintain her own body, but she would never tell him this.
The young woman quickly smoothed her red and black plaid skirt before heading towards the quaint cafe called "The Black Rose". It was one of those small places with local rock bands and an almost gothic feeling to it. Not to mention it was somewhere she could never run into big brother and therefore a great place to go to relax and enjoy herself. With her small black and grommet filled purse clasped lightly in one hand Adalia pulled the door open and breathed in the aromas of freshly baked breads and pastries. This time the stomach growl was more insistent and with a laugh she patted her stomach, "Don't worry, we'll be eating soon. Promise!" Her black combat boots made loud clunking noises on the hardwood floor even though her steps were light as she approached the display case. A practiced eye lead her to carefully look over each individual item within the glass display before making her selections.
The cute boy behind the register gestured for her to step forward, "Welcome to the Black Rose. What can I get for you today?" Mildly interested in the boy moreso than the food, Adalia leaned forward with her arms on the counter and smiled sweetly as she rattled off what her heart desired with a wink at the end. For today, just a turkey and cheddar sandwich with all the vegetable fixings and a white chocolate caramel mocha would do. Though there was no chill in the air, the mocha was her favorite drink. In fact, Adalia would even go so far as to promise people that it was her favorite drink ever if they ever dared to ask. After giving the boy her name so he could call it out when her order was up, she nearly pranced over to her chair trying to make sure her hips swayed just so for the check out boy.
The table nearest the door happened to be open and had a beautiful oak wood look to it, so she grabbed it before anyone else could and laid her purse carefully atop the table. Distractedly, the young woman leaned back against her chair and crossed one leg over the other with the toes of the hanging foot tapping out the rhythm of the music into the air. It startled her just a little when the young man brought her food to her on a tray with a smile. After thanking him she carefully arranged her drink and food before her before digging in. The sandwich was as good as she remembered and so she ate slowly, trying to savor each and every bite, just as her dad had taught her to.

Molly was sick. Well not sick exactly. The golden retriever was going to have puppies any day now. That's why she wasn't with Basil when he entered the Black Rose Cafe. He still had a leash in his hand, though it was not attached to a dog, but instead to a small child who was beaming at everything and yanking on his tether.
"Epsilon." Basil sighed heavily, his white cane clicking softly on the edge of the doorway, assuring that the blond didn't hit it. "You said you wanted to take Molly's place. You're not doing very well." Of course, this was all a game to the child. Basil would never in his right mind use Epsilon as a seeing eye dog.
"Oh. Door!" Eppi shrieked happily, pulling on the monkey backpack that connected the leash. Basil had already tripped and was glaring at his ward now.
"Epsilon."
"What! How does Molly do it then? She doesn't even talk!" The pair didn't seem to notice that they were still standing in the doorway until another customer sidled around them.
"Let's just eat." Epsilon took Basil's hint and led the blond to the register, bouncing and laughing the entire way. The boy behind the counter looked skeptical about all of this, but the look was lost on both Basil and Epsilon.
Carelessly, Basil just ordered with Epsilon interjecting often to change this or that. Somehow the pair came away with two oven baked subs, made to each boy's liking of course, as well as two drinks. Basil had gotten black coffee while Epsilon had chosen apple juice.
Food in hand, Basil followed Epsilon to a table that felt like it was by a window. With a few moments of fumbling, Basil sat down, unknowing sitting right behind a rather flamboyant girl.
"Ketchup!" Epsilon chirped, smothering his sandwich in the stuff.
"Are all stars as annoying as you?" Basil demanded, though there was no real censure in his voice.
"Yes!"

The young woman was so thoroughly enjoying her sandwich that she paid very little mind at all to the duo standing within the doorway chatting - or disagreeing with one another as it would have looked had she bothered to listen any closer. What did end up getting her attention, however, was the fact that one was walking with a long white cane and the other was attached to a leash. One of the first thoughts that crossed through Adalia's mind was, "Is he using that child as a guide dog?!" but she quickly shook her head, mildly amused when her hair flopped into her face and neatly blew it back out with a quick puff of air from between her pouty lips. After another bite of her sandwich she queued in to what the two newcomers were talking about, smiling at how silly the child was and wondering if all kids were that way. The light and easy way the adult talked to the kid brought another smile to her face - it reminded her of how her dad had acted when he had been together with her mother. Sweet and caring, a compassionate caretaker who would always be there.
A small frown creased her lips as that retrospection brought on the memory of how her parents had changed post-divorce and not necessarily for the better. The child's happy proclamation of ketchup brought Adalia back to the present and she couldn't help but chuckle and turn around in her seat to see what he was so pleased about. When she caught sight of the ketchup draped all over his sandwich she laughed again, draped one arm on the back of the seat to make herself more comfortable, and said over it to the child, "Is the sandwich any good covered in ketchup like that?"
It was meant in a good natured way, and she hoped the smile on her face showed that and didn't warrant a scared child and angry dad. That would put a damper on her meal, but most especially on her day for Adalia loved talking to and meeting new people and this looked like as good a chance as any to do just that.

Having happily spread the ketchup all over, Epsilon wasn't aware he was been scrutinized until he heard the voice behind him. The child turned, blinking at the girl with her strange colored hair and outfit. He didn't remember people dressing like that and he blink his violet eyes again, trying to decide what she was talking about before it dawned on him.
"Oh, yes!" Eppi chirped, smiling brightly as he craned his head back slightly. "That's why I put it on." He added in an well-of-course manner. Facing forward again, he took a huge bite out of his sandwich, making a rather weird squishing crunch noise in the process.
"Epsilon don't be disgusting." Basil pointed out blithely, taking a delicate bite out of his own sandwich and sipping at his coffee. "He's not bothering you, is he miss?" The blond added, turning his head in the direction the girl's voice had come from.
"She talked to me first!" Eppi whined, pouted cutely.

The glee with which the child was splattering the ketchup all over his sandwich really made Adalia want to giggle, but she managed to hold it in, if only just. When he stared at her, though, she wasn't entirely certain if it was because she'd interrupted his meal or because she was the one who had started the staring so she simply stared right back at him until he spoke. Of course, the very pleased sounding response broke down her resolve on not laughing and an amused giggle managed to escape her mouth before one hand came up to cover her lips as if she'd made a mistake. His matter of fact sentiment made her nod wisely, as if she completely understood, "Well, of course. That would only make sense, I suppose, wouldn't it?"
Once more white teeth flashed as she smiled, still very amused at the boy even if she was just a little disgusted at the sound the sandwich made and how goopy it really looked. Adalia didn't mind condiments on food, but only if they were just so. There couldn't be too much or too little, it had to be perfect. That was probably one of the reasons her older brother told her she was "finicky" about how she ate. She'd never admit it though - especially not to Fiach. In the end, however, her curiosity won out and she asked the young boy, "So what kind of sandwich is that anyway?" Left unsaid was the addition of 'that you'd have to add so much ketchup to make it tasty', because she had a feeling the child would be affronted by such a possibility. That ketchup covered sandwiches were simply not the norm.
When the older man reprimanded the child, another smile came to her lips along with a slight rosy color to her cheeks in embarrassment. She'd started the conversation and now the poor boy, Epsilon he appeared to be called, was the one in trouble. Sheepishly Adalia waved one hand as if to dismiss the issue before she noticed that the man was looking her general direction but he didn't seem to really be seeing her. The young woman quickly dismissed her curiosity on that issue, knowing the combination of unseeing glances and white cane usually meant they were blind, and laughed, "Nope, he's not bothering me at all!"
Another grin touched her lips, this one just a little wider when the boy whined and pouted, "I think he's kinda cute, actually!"
