R.J. walked with a quickened pace, her feet being fueled by the piece of paper in her hand. Another place, another kid. Really? One, she could handle, two was sorta hard, but she was making it work. But once again, she had gotten a letter from a lab this time, saying she was selected to take care of a 'special case' child. Really? She had a small apartment and hardly enough money to care for another kid. Don't these people look into these things when they choose parents?
Imani, on the other hand, as she remained perched upon her mother's shoulders, was actually hoping that the people would be able to convince her mother to get another child. And by convince she hoped that they'd give her a bigger house or something. That would be awesome.
As the two entered the lab, Imani made a quick b-line for the front desk. "Ah yes, I'd like to talk to someone about a letter I received today in the mail?"

The woman at the desk was a stern looking creature with glasses that blocked out her face and pink hair that was so straight and neatly cut its color couldn't even save it from wildness. She pointed very quickly to a waiting area, not even adderssing R.J. beyond a quick and monotone "sit there, Apoxi will be with you shortly."
Luckily, however, the people already waiting on the bench were, well, MUCH more pleasant. Ixxie Mizerlou and her eldest daughter, Julie, were presently already on the bench, were already pretty well known to the newcomers. Julie, of course, immediately hopped up to rush over to them. "MAAAAANI! MISS RJ!!!!!" she called, hugging the woman around her middle and reaching up to pull her best friend down into a hug. After all, a stage couldn't separate their friendship!
Ixxie snorted, waving to the other mom, "Got a letter about a special case kid too?"

R.J. was about to dig into the woman at the desk verbally when she was saved by a certain angel imp girlie now attached to her middle. She set Imani down and watched her get scooped up by the older child of Zetetic. She patted the pink haired girl real quick before waving back to Ixxie.
"I need to see if I can sign up for a 'do not mail' list. I do NOT have the room for another kid, nor the financial stability. Imani and Chase have been surviving on PB+J for about a month. Getting less and less gigs..." she said with a sigh. She hated that she couldn't provide better for what kids she had, but a third? They'd eat every other day if they were lucky.
"Julie!" Imani squeaked, snuggling into her friend.

Ixxie nodded, "I know what you mean." she agreed, "Tattooing and selling art aren't always the most lucrative of businesses, not even in Aekea." she said with a shrug, watching in amusement as her daughter played with her friend, "And with 5 little mouths to feed and everyone already sharing rooms? There's just no way I can handle more kids without moving and getting a better paying job."
"Then luckily for the both of you, this offer includes monetary rewards." came the calm and much more friendly voice of a short doctor with poofy brown hair and big black glasses.
Julie giggled and hugged her friend close, watching as the funny lady walked up. "You think she's gonna give us new siblings?" she asked quietly.

R.J. was about to comment to Ixxie when she was startled by the doctor that had just arrived. After the initial shock faded R.J. tilted her head, slightly confused.
"Monetary rewards? Why's that?" she asked, slightly suspicious. If this was some sort of pyramid scheme or something...
Imani looked at the lady and then to Julie. "I dunno, maybe..."

Apoxi shook her head, "We create children here to see how the DNA works in combination and do research on the growth and development of crossbred children. However, they are children, not lab animals, and belong in proper homes. Therefore, we pay those who need assistance to help take care of the children. You two, however, were selected for a very special case."
Julie blinked and hugged Imani, "I think she's saying they're gonna give our Momma's money to help with us!"

R.J. was calming down a bit. That reasoning seemed legit enough. But then there was the 'special case' thrown in again. Were they going to test children in worse conditions, therefore not give the monetary assistance? She couldn't help but be paranoid; it's called being a mother.
"And how is this case 'special' if I may ask?"
Imani was confused by the whole situation. "If you say so Julie..."

"We ended up with a set of identical twins and would prefer not to separate them." Apoxi stated calmly, "As such, the special case would be that your two families - both of which need to move to a much larger residence anyway - will have to live either in the same building or next door to each other to maintain the closeness between the girls. Previous cases of twins have gone to two sets of parents who live together, but these two were determined best to go with you two - and as you both have shown to get along, and have daughters who do, it was deemed the option might be plausible." Apoxi explained calmly.
Julie's eyes widened, starting to pick up on what was being said. She might get to LIVE with Imani! "You hear that? Wooooow!"

Imani was the first to react of the Johnson clan at this news. She was trying REALLY hard to contain her gleeful squeal. This is what she had been hoping for for months! The idea of living with Julie's family just popped into her head one day and she never could really get the idea out of her head, and now, now it could happen!
R.J. was now the one confused. "What does that mean, you're giving us money to raise these kids and a new house to have the room to do so?"

Julie was half dancing around wiht the other girl by this point. This was awesome awesome awesome! How could this not be good?
"yes, or two very close houses as you both need a lot of space and have work that doesn't provide so well for you or your other children. Consider it like being rewarded for being charitable and taking in the girls who need homes and a lot of love." Apoxi explained with a her friendly smiles and arms behind her back.
Ixxie, for her part, was silent. Weighing her options, considering what would work for her family and what wouldn't. "What do you think, RJ?"

R.J. thought for a moment or two before looking at Ixxie.
"Sounds like just what we need actually. I am just REALLY hoping that this is all legit..." She then looked at Apoxi with a semi-apologetic expression on her face. "No offense ma'am. It just seems too good to be true..."
Imani was too busy dancing with Julie to pay attention to the conversation anymore. This was amazing!

Apoxi nodded, "It is a little unbelievable at times." especially if they knew the full story, but that wasn't really anyone's business, "But I assure you. We are legit and have the paperwork to prove it. Anyway, would you two like to come meet the girls?"
Ixxie finally turned to the shorter woman, "What combination are they? Your friend over there was telling me they are made from humanoid and beasts of a magical nature."
The smaller woman nodded, "They are nightmare-nepheliad crossbreeds. The cross between a horse of bad dreams and shadows, and a creature of mischief and clouds. Another reason you are being well paid for their care. The one, so far, has shown to lean towards her more impish and free spirited parent, as far as I can see. The other...well, she's a little more difficult."
The pink haired tattooist thought for a bit before standing, "Well, I'll look at them anyway."

"I suppose it would be okay to meet the girls then," R.J. said finally. This just might be what both of these families needed, and if it was legit like Apoxi claimed, they really couldn't refuse, could they?
Wait, bad dreams and shadows? Mischief? Oh dear. Hopefully this money included therapy other family members. Well, maybe it wouldn't be that bad...

The hall they entered led past several neat doorways, all with color coded marks on them. They seemed neat and simple, but not cold or scary as other labs might be. A calm place, really.
Where they were led was to a slightly larger room where a set of girls were sitting on beds opposite each other. They both had dark skin and dark hair and glowing red eyes - only reading a book already, and the other playing with some stuffed animals. They were dressed rather frillily, but seemed okay.
"You can go in and meet them, but make no promises you don't intend to keep, if you please." APoxi stated, letting the women and their daughters in.
Julie looked around at the girls and smiled. Well they seemed okay, right? Ixxie, meanwhile, was a tad apprehensive.

The one playing with the stuffed animals seemed amused with her game. She had a bunny in one hand, a teddy in the other, and was moving them in such a way in where it looked like she were making them converse, but she was saying nothing herself. Her glowing red eyes caught sight of the newcomers and scooted closer to her sister, her eyes never leaving any of them.
R.J. laughed awkwardly and waved to the two girls. "Uhm...hello there?"
Imani peeked at the two girls. Why was everyone so...apprehensive to meet them? She walked in a few steps further and waved excitedly to the two girls. "Heya!"
