Janette said bye to her mother as she put on her faded, raggedy black jacket, zipping it up half way over her white shirt that had black sleeves and a black collar. She wiped her wet hands from rinising the dishes on her dark ripped jeans as she walked out to her old el camino.
She put the key in the ignition as she sat down in the passenger seat and put her hood on so that it covered half her head, her light brown hair going a little past her shoulders. Her bangs covered part of her right bright blue, silvery eye.
She shut the door and turned on the radio to her one of her favorite songs, Fade Away, after pushing in her Breaking Benjamin CD. She rolled down the windows and put the black car into drive and drove to school.
She hummed along with the song quietly, her blue eyes distant even though she was completely focused on her the road and on the music. She groaned when she suddenly remembered she had a English report due today.
And because of the topic she'd have to get out of it.

Janette was now parked in the parking lot still listening to the CD with her hooded head leaned back against the head rest, her eyes closed wishing she could forget about her visions, her sight, and her new developing hearing ability. She wish she could be normal, maybe even be considered a freak, but not thought of as gifted for her curse. If only people knew why she had the abilities. Simply karma.
The engine was off, and her foot was tapping against the floor board with the beat, her hands in her lap. From the outside she looked at ease. From the outside she looked like a gorgeous pretty girl who could get anything she wanted. But if you knew her from the inside she was a girl who was far from normal and couldn't get what she wanted most. Her sister back, the abilities gone, the scars gone... She couldn't have what she wanted.

((Sorry it ain't very long. ;/ I effin' hate starters haha.))

Jace slipped out of his cherry red 1967 Mustang convertible and scanned the parking lot for Janette’s el camino. He cringed as his sister, August, hopped out of the passenger seat,
slamming the car door behind her.
“I miss my baby.” August whined, referring to her corvette which was now on its way to the junkyard.
“If you loved it so much, you shouldn’t have totaled it.” He replied calmly, locating Janette’s car.
“It wasn’t my fault.” August protested. “Jenny had major party news and I just had to tweet about it.” Jace rolled his eyes and started walking towards the el camino. August walked beside him, her expensive heels clicking against the pavement. The sound always got on Jace’s nerves.
August glanced around the parking lot, hoping to find Jenny. Instead, she found a tall, blonde, guy, getting out of his truck.
“Ohh he looks yummy.” She complimented. “Dibs!”
“August, for the last time, I’m not gay.” Jace snapped.
“Then why don’t you have a girlfriend?” August taunted.
“Why don’t you have a boyfriend?” He countered.
“Because silly. I can’t be tied down by just one guy. I want diversity.”
Jace rolled his eyes in response.
“Oh come on. Even you have to understand that.”
“No, I don’t” Jace snapped.
August crossed her arms, pouting at her brother’s lack of sympathy.
Jace pretended not to notice and continued across the parking lot. He fiddled with the buttons on his dark blue jean jacket.
“You know, I can’t let you dress like that as my brother. I bet guys would be falling all over you if you started wearing Jean Paul and Calvin Klein.”
“I’m not-” Jace started.
“I know, I know. You haven’t come out yet. It’s alright. I’ll keep this between you and me.”
Jace groaned. “Idiot…” He muttered, his emerald eyes flashing in irritation.
August adjusted her Gucci bag and ran a manicured hand through her blonde hair while Jace stuffed his hands into his pockets.
They reached the el camino and August bounced excitedly.
“Janette! Turn that crap off! I have news!” She exclaimed.

[[ Mine isn't very long either ]]

Janette could barely hear August's voice over her beloved muisc, but she could, and since she did she turned it off and opened the door. Getting out she grabbed her black backpack and set it on the roof of the car and closing the door to lean on it.
She loved August, but they were complete opposites, and sometimes August could be so mean, especially to guys and her brother. But since it was out of her control she let it roll of her shoulders and pretended to be interested.
"What kind of news?" Janette asked, irritated that her hood had fallen off her head. She fixed her golden brown hair and swiped a strand of hair from her blue eyes. Not wanting anyone to see her scars she put her sleeves down and stuffed her hands in her jack pockets.
Her eyes looked past August to Jace, and she couldn't help the small smile that formed in the corners of her pink lips. Janette didn't get along with girls all that much, too much drama and all that, and really only had one friend. Jace had been her friend for nine years, and even though she told him everything, she kept two things to herself.
First, she was the one who killed her little sister, Cyra. Only her parents knew that. Second was that she cut and burned herself, not one living soul knew that.
((I couldn't think of anything else! D'x))
PostPosted: Fri Aug 27, 2010 6:08 pm

Jace smiled faintly at Janette, not quite sure if she noticed or not. He secretly wished she would get rid of the hood. He liked being able to see her whole head. He rolled his eyes and began looking around as August launched into her story.
“Okay, so the whole reason I crashed my corvette is because I got huge news from Jenny. But you already know that part. I mean, seriously, who doesn’t? Anyway, this hot new guy is having a party tomorrow night and everyone who’s anyone is going. And naturally, I’m going, but you two should come with me. It could be good for you.” She frowned disapprovingly at Jace and Janette. Jace opened his mouth to protest, but August cut him off once more.
“I don’t need you negativity right now.” she waved a hand dismissively at him. “You two are going, and you have no choice in the matter. And after school, we get to go shopping!” She giggled in excitement. “What do you guys think?”
“Well I think it’s a load of-”
“No one asked you.”
“Well actually-”
“Janette. What do you think?” August asked anxiously. She continued without waiting for an answer, “Because I think it’ll be so much fun, especially because that guy is so hot. Maybe you guys can find semi-hot guys too. You know, if you get lucky.”
Jace clenched his fists. “I’m not-”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever. Aren’t you guys excited?! I mean, this is like the party of the year!” She finished, out of breath.
“I’m not going.” Jace said, glaring at his sister.
August laughed, his anger rolling easily off her shoulders. “Of course you are.”
Jace ran a hand through his chesnut hair, clearly irritated. He said nothing, knowing that arguing with August wouldn’t do him any good. Instead, right before the party he would either leave the house, or lock himself inside his room.
“So you’re going too, right Janette?” august asked.
[[ Chill. ]]

Smile gone she was now looking down at her converse shoes, one crossed over the other. She was barely focused on what August was saying but got every detail.
"Why do you need us to come?" But she was ignored as Jace and August started arguing, but she didn't care. She wasn't in the partying mood, actually she was never in the partying mood.
"Um, August?" She said looking at her now. "I really don't like partying, or shopping." She said quietly. "You can go, you don't need me or Jace there with you. Just...go have fun...with the new hot guy." She said waving hand. The motion caused her sleeve to slip down her arm and, panicked, she grabbed her wrist and pulling her sleeve back down past her fingers. She hoped neither August or Jace saw anything.
"So, yeah I don't think I could make it anyway." She said it, though it came out as a question.
((Sorry it's short gotta take a shower for the dance.))
PostPosted: Fri Aug 27, 2010 6:46 pm

Jace nodded in agreement. “You know, I could probably find somewhere to be. When is the party again?”
August began to pout, looking hopefully at them with her wide hazel eyes.
“Please? You guys need to come.” She crossed her arms. “No, you know what? You guys are coming whether you like it or not! I’m not taking no for an answer so quit whining and just deal with it!”
Jace looked over at Janette. “But we-”
“I don’t care!” August exclaimed. “You’re coming! Period! End of story!” August let out her breath and stormed off across the parking lot, towards the school.
“Well at least that’s over.” Jace said, cracking a smile. “I guess it wouldn’t kill us if we went for just a few minutes. You know, to keep August from exploding.” He paused, waiting for Janette’s reaction.

Janette watched back and forth, feeling as if she were watching a tennis tournament. Her eyes flickered to whoever was speaking and she couldn't help but laugh.
"Why do we have to go?" Janette whined. She really wasn't the type of girl to socialize, instead she just liked to sit at home and watch movies.
Janette watched August walk away and shr turned towards Jace. She was glad that they were nothing a like, it'd be a pain.
"Oh, I'm still not going shopping!" She called after August. It'd be too risky to go shopping with August, her scars were sure to be revealed to August and Janette wasn't ready for anyone to know that she did that, not yet she wasn't. Though she had been thinking about telling Jace sometime soon.
"You know, I think it'd pretty funny to watch your sister explode." Janette said smiling, moving her hair out of her face. "I mean if she acts this way and she's not even really, truely mad over something..." She said shaking her head.
"Come on, I don't want to be late for home room," she said taking her backpack off her car and slinging it over her right shoulder. She gripped the strap and started walking, not even looking back to see if Jace was following or now.
She let go of her strap and she lifted her hood up again so that ir rested on top of her head.

Jace put a hand to his forehead and watched his sister as she made her way across the parking lot, waving to a few football players as she passed. He wanted to go rip her arm off. He hated the way she made herself a reputation.
Jace smiled humorlessly as August turned quickly to glare at them as Janette yelled after her. He shrugged in agreement with Janette. “It probably would be funny.” Ha replied nonchalantly “But that would probably end with me getting grounded.” He frowned theatrically as if he was considering her idea despite his fake consequences.
He watched as Janette grabbed her backpack and began walking away. Without a word, he grabbed his own backpack and followed her.
Jace groaned, almost silently, as Janette pulled up her hood. He decided that he would inconspicuously convince August to force Janette to go shopping. He figured that maybe having a new outfit would cause her to come out of her shell just a little bit.
Jace trailed behind Janette, wanting to find out if she’d turn around, looking for him, or not.
“Jace!” Jace turned around. A high-energy girl from his Spanish class was jogging toward him. Well that’s just wonderful. Jace thought sarcastically as he turned to talk to her. “Hey, I need help with my homework!” She exclaimed, though he was only standing about two feet away. “How do you do all of this?”
Jace repressed the urge to just walk away, and began explaining it to her.

Janette didn't hear his groan but had turned around to ask him a question when some girl that was a little too hyper for Janette's liking, but then again she never really talked to the girl either. Janette didn't want to interrupt anything between them so she went on ahead and took a seat a bench a few feet away from Jace and the other girl, looking at the ground.
"Hey Janette," Janette looked up to see Bailey walking up to her. She waved and again, her hood fell off.
"Dammit," she muttered but left it down this time. "Hey Bailey, what's up?" She asked trying her best to give a whole-hearted smile, without much success.
"Nothing much, same old same old." She said with a grimace. "Parents are still fighting and me and my sister have no idea what to do." She groaned as she sat down.
"It'll all work out." Janette said sympathetically. "Most everything..." she said inaudibly to Bailey. "Things happen for a reason," she said to her, Janette's bright blue eyes dull.
Janette took out a piece of paper and a pen, scribbling down her cell number and handing it to Baliey. "If you ever need anything or want to escape the fighting you can call me or come over." She said trying her best to smile again.
When Bailey said her thanks and left Janette's mind wondered to Jace and if she'd ever tell him what she did to herself.
PostPosted: Wed Sep 01, 2010 3:06 pm

When Jace finished explaining, the girl thanked him and bounced off. Jace rolled his eyes and ran a hand through his hair. “Damn…” He muttered to himself, almost irritated by her spunkiness. He turned in a slow circle, his shoes scraping the blacktop. When he noticed Janette sitting alone on the bench, and another girl walking away, he considered going to sit with her. At the last moment, he decided against it. Wanting to respect her personal space.

((It's fine. I understand. ))

Once Bailey left Janette watched Jace and the other girl, but she felt as if she were eavesdropping even though she couldn't hear a single thing being said so her she sat there quietly watching the people walk by, some waving some not, others smiling others not, but she ignored them all. She wasn't ignoring them on purpose, Janette was just zoning out.
Everyone in a while Janette's blue eyes would up in Jace's direction, glancing from head to toe. She couldn't help but wonder what it would be like to be couple with him, she stopped thinking that and her face screwed up into an expression of confusion.
Do I even like Jace that way? Do I like anyone in that way? She thought looking at her beat up converse. What if having a boyfriend is good for me? She was becoming more confused by the second. Well, what if a boyfriend is good for me but me being their girfriend causes a problem? Like it did for Brad. She groaned and looked at Jace again as he walked away.
She grabbed her backpack and walked away, sliding it off the table. She tried pushing the thoughts away as she walked silently, more like moped, to her home room class. She couldn't help but hope Jace would sit by her but she didn't let her hopes get up to high. She had hoped Brad would change her, that he would actually care about her, her hopes got crushed. She wasn't letting that happen again.
She put her hand out to the door and grabbed it, looking back at the parking lot, breathing heavily. She shook her head and tried to push the feeling away. She gritted her teeth and stared for a moment. But trying to ignore it made the feeling worse.
Just as the bell rang for class a horn blared from the parking lot. Janette dropped her backpack and ran. She came up to the curb just in time to see the two cars collide.
She couldn't identify the drive in the blue truck from her, but sitting in the other car was Brad.
Janette ran to the car and was thankful she had put her phone in her pocket. She dialed 9-1-1 and stated the accident quickly.
She didn't touch the cars in case it'd get her trouble with interferring with evidence.
The driver in the truck was Kacee, who played goalie on the Varsity soccer team.
Janette started calling Brad's name, who was leaned back in the seat behing a a broken windshield and next to a shattered window. He had a gash on her forehead across his eye, blood running down his cheek.
His eyes were closed and he was unmoving except for the slightest rise and fall of his chest, but even that wouldn't be visible if you weren't looking for any signs of life.
Janette could hear the sirens now and she hadn't noticed she was crying until she felt something wet rolled down under her chin. She lifted a shakey hand to wipe it away just as the paramedics arrived.
She needed to get away, to be alone, to relieve the pain the feeling gave her, to relieve the pain that she knew something bad was going to happen but couldn't stop it. There was only one way to do that.
PostPosted: Thu Sep 02, 2010 7:19 pm

((I read it in the PMs. I'll just post my reply, instead ofmposting yours under my username. Awesome reply by the way!))

Janette watched as the paramedics came into the parking lot and got out of their vehicles. She even watched when they had to wait for a firetruck to come so they could use the Jaws of Life on
the car doors. She barely watched when they pulled Kacee out of his car and saw that he was finally blinking and moving some. But when they had to pry Brad out of his car and saw that he was still unconcious she turned her head away.
Janette hadn't heard Jace come up to her, and it wasn't because of the sirens- those had been turned off so that just the lights were on. It was because she was too preoccupied with her thoughts to hear anything else.
Finally Janette looked up at Jace as a tear slid down her cheek. She wiped it away.
"I could've done something..." She breathed looking at the vehicles. "I had a feeling... I knew something was going to happen. I should've done something..." She moved her blue eyes from the cars but didn't look up at Jace, instead she stared down at her shoes.
Her hands were shaking as well as her knees and she had to sit down. She turned around to head for the bench she sat at this morning, but she stopped. Students were forming a Half circle around Janette and Jace, wanting to know what had happened. She could hear the sirens of the cops arriving now. She could hear th crunch if glass being crunched by boots from the paramedics, the cops, and the firefighters.
"Excuse me, miss," an officer said adressing Janette. "Sir," he said looking at Jace now. "We need you to step back from th scene please," The officer said. Janette did as she was told and backed away, looking at Jace still.
His question just clicked in her brain and she nodded.

[[ Thanks :] Yours was awesome too haha ]]

Jace ignored the medics as they worked on getting the boys out of their cars. He only recognized one of them; a jock from the soccer team. Jace didn’t even bother to look at the other guy as the paramedics loaded him into the ambulance. He shook his head as Janette talked. “You didn’t know. No one knew this was going to happen” He comforted her “There was nothing you could do. Nothing anyone could do.” Jace sighed and stepped back as the officer told him. “Really, Janette, what could you have done?“ He asked, rhetorically. He knew there was no possible way she could have prevented the crash.
Jace glared at the crowd and stood next to Janette. “Let’s get out of here” He suggested softly, trying to soothe Janette. “C’mon we’ll go do something to get your mind off it.” He put his arm around Janette’s shoulders, to help her through the crowd of students. The boldness of his move embarrassed him a bit and he considered pulling his arm back. No, Janette needs to get out of here. He thought, trying to convince himself that that was the only reason his arm was now looped over her shoulders, pulling her closer to him. “Move” He ordered the students who were surrounding them. A few of them moved, others just blinked in surprise. He was usually so calm and quite. “Move” He ordered again, louder now. He sent an ice-cold glare to all those who were still in the way. The students scuffed their feet as they made a wide path for Jace and Janette to walk through.
