Cloud laid on her back as best she could, wiggling her shoulders in order to settle her scales into the soft ground.
She had found her way to a pleasant, open space probably somewhere near the edge of the swamp- Cloud didn't mind where she was really, as long as she could see the sky.
And she could! So she was as happy as you'd ever find her. She kicked her feet up when she was settled enough before letting them curl close to her body so she could watch as the clouds quietly floated by. And it was awfully quiet in this part of the swamp; there weren't many other creatures to break the heavy silence, but that, too, was fine by her.
Cloud smiled to herself as she picked shapes out of the clouds, happy until the stray thought of just how she had earned her nickname assaulted her memory. She tried her best to ignore it but her irritation didn't seem to dissipate entirely.

Vertigo is traipsing through the Swamp, as usual, just after having left a somewhat large gathering of kimeti as little as a few hours beforehand. He isn't really looking to go somewhere specifically, but rather lets his feet take him wherever he has the impulse.
Where he winds up is at the edges of a huge clearing where the trees seem almost to cut off entirely, save for one or two dotted here and there amidst soft earth and swaying grasses. It's a beautiful sight, really, and he looks up at the expanse of sky, and the fat, fluffy white clouds drifting by. His gaze levels our over the field again, and then he spots her.
It had taken a moment since she was lying down, the somewhat tall grasses mostly obscuring her. A white shape in the midst of greens and soft browns. He steps toward her, quietly, but makes enough noise so as to not startle her too badly, and as he comes up upon her, notices the look of barely-there frustration in her features, and crinkles his eyes up toward the bright sky again.
"You know... if you keep frowning at them like that, they might just rain on you." His voice is easy and smooth, though a touch amused.

Surprise flashes over Cloud's face for an instant before her expression defaults to the pleasant smile she usually has covering whatever nonsense she is actually thinking about. But her eyes always give her away as a shy little thing, not afraid, but certainly not bold enough to approach others on her own, unless she has reason to.
So when this other Kimeti approached her, she tried her best to stay put, rolling so that she was on her side instead of on her back. She looked up at the taller Kimeti- or at least he seemed taller from her spot on the ground- and blinked.
"Ah... I'm not frowning at the clouds, you know." though her expression was pleasant ( save for the distant look in her eyes ) her words seemed somewhat sharp, not towards him, but bitter in some way. "They just remind me of somebody." she smiled again, this time it reached the corner of her eyes.

Vertigo smiles a charming smile that lights his face up pleasantly. "No? Well... who do they remind you of, then? I don't know how something as pretty as clouds could ever remind someone of anything to make them frown. They're too pretty for that, don't you think?"
He wonders what could have caused such a bitter note to enter the doe's voice. To him, she seems too pretty to be so worried over something. Even her coat seems as pure as the white clouds overhead, and he thinks if they were ever to remind him of anyone, they will surely remind him of this doe at a later date in time.
"Who were you thinking about, if you don't mind me asking?"

She redirects her attention to the clouds where her eyes linger long enough to cause a mildly unpleasant silence.
Finally Cloud returns her attentions to the Kimeti before her, that smile ever present, "Myself." her voice is delicate, unsure, shy. "Sort of." she shakes her head, her locks becoming tousled and throws her head back to get them out of her eyes before continuing.
"My mother." she says flatly. "The nickname she... Sort of gave me. Cloud." with a laugh she rises to her feet to appropriately view the other; "I must confess I'm not very good with others."

As the quiet stretches on, Vertigo shifts a little, but doesn't make any moves to leave. He's curious, suddenly, at her response, and wonders what it could mean. Cloud didn't exactly seem like a bad nickname... but then again, he doesn't know the story behind it, either. And he never knew his own parents, so he doesn't quite understand, but he tries to.
"It's alright," he assures her, a small smile flitting once more to his face. "I don't really mind.. I mean... it's not like we know each other." He laughs softly then and tilts his head a little.
"My name's Vertigo. I guess that means I'm not as much of a stranger to you anymore, hm?" Pausing a moment, he shifts a little unsure if he should sit, or not, and decides to keep standing, until he knows whether or not she might ask him to leave. "I wouldn't mind staying here a little, if you wouldn't. Would you... mind me asking why the nickname upsets you? It seems like a nice nickname..."

Her smile becomes a little bit more genuine at his words. "I suppose not. I am Diamond Nimbus." she nods a little bit, mostly to herself. "I've already told you my nickname, you may call me whichever you'd like, though."
She watches him for a moment and then continues. "You should sit if you want." she tilts her head, noticing his shifting back and forth. "I don't mind telling you, but you should be comfortable first." she insists. "It is not a long story, but it is a story none-the-less."

Nodding some, he finally sits down, and peers at her with an easy, but intent, gaze. "If it saddens you to be called Cloud.. then I would rather not call you that. But if it doesn't bother you, then Cloud it is."
Vertigo shifts his legs underneath himself into a comfortable position, sighs softly as his slightly-aching feet, from so much walking, are given a respite. And then he is quiet as he waits for her to begin, more patient than his name might otherwise suggest.

She shook her head in response, once again messing up her mane, but not taking any effort to fix it this time, "It doesn't sadden me... I chose to adopt the name, though I'm not sure it was what she intended."
Her eyes seemed faraway again, but she shrugged as best she could, "Well. When I was born I was alone." she seemed to consider this but continued, "I suppose that it's normal for most Kimeti, but I didn't want to be alone... I went looking for my mother and after so much searching I finally found her!" her voice rose an octave towards the end, in excitement or something else.
"I tried to speak to her, I tried so hard, but she saw me first." a touch of sadness made her eyes become dull, "She asked me if I was clouds. I didn't know what she meant, because that... Doesn't really make much sense."
"Anyway, I told her my name but she continued to insist I was a cloud and that I belonged in the sky. She told me that stars do not belong on clouds," amusement managed to sneak its way into her voice, "and she tried to pull the stars from my hair."
"She told me her name was Clouded Quartz. Mist. And that she called me Cloud because I am a cloud."
Cloud paused for a long moment.
"She said I should return to the sky and give the stars back. So... I told her I'd give them back when I went home... She left then. Telling me to keep an eye on the morning sky so she could return to it."
She spoke the words as if she had wanted to let them out for a long time. And she had, she had never actually told the story to anybody else.

Vertigo doesn't quite know how to initially respond, and so is quiet for a moment after she finishes. Really, it's one of the stranger stories he's ever heard-- at least pertaining to a real event.
"Well..." he starts slowly, "you do kind of look like a cloud.. in your own way. I mean... clouds are white, and your coat does sort of seem to have stars in it. Although... I don't think I'd ever mistake you as a cloud." He laughs softly, and flashes a smile at her.
He also can't really say he thinks that, perhaps, Cloud's mother is just a little...bonkers without offending her, so he doesn't.
"If it's any consolation, I think you're rather pretty." And there is definitely a hint of a flirt in those eyes, a little mischievous and playful beneath the seriousness of the conversation.

With her eyes having been down, Cloud wasn't entirely sure how Vertigo had reacted and simply waited for him to speak, having no desire to continue using her voice. She jumped slightly when Vertigo's words reached her ears, for some reason not expecting them.
She muttered a soft "thank you" in response, a blush rising to stain her white cheeks a faint pink. Finally, she lifted her eyes to look towards him, peering at him through the mess her mane caused before her eyes, "Ah... You're quite handsome, as well." She spoke softly, clearly shy and unused to giving and receiving compliments.

He laughs. It's easy and carefree and unrestrained. Her seeming innocence is sweet and fresh, even if it does make him feel like something of a lecher in comparison-- not that he really minds. Even Cloud's shy return of compliments amuses Vertigo, but not in a bad way. He finds her charming, and attractive in a way that he is rarely affected by with does.
"Well.. thank you. I'm glad you think so." There's the flash of a faint, teasing grin and mischief in his eyes.
"Do you come to places like these to watch the clouds often? It seems like a relaxing past-time, although I must confess," he laughs a little, "I probably wouldn't be able to sit still enough to enjoy it-- at least not for long."

It took a moment, but Cloud smiled in return. She seemed to take some time to analyse everything that was spoken; truth be told, she kept expecting him to just decide she wasn't interesting and to leave, it really wouldn't've surprised her considering her past interactions with Kimeti.
But she smiled, keeping her eyes trained on his. He had laughed; it was a nice laugh, really, one that pushed the smile on her face up to her eyes. "Yes." she spoke.
She had fully intended to only say yes, but quickly realised that she liked having him around so amended her statement: "It's calming for me." her voice soft, nearly a whisper, "There are a lot of things for me to think about." her smile dropped a little and she returned her gaze towards the sky, "And if I cannot think, I can pick shapes out of the clouds." Her voice was pleasant, almost happy. "It gives one something to do."

"Hm... well, it is a nice place. There aren't really very many clearings like this in the Swamp, I suppose. Though I can't say I've ever picked shapes out of clouds before." Vertigo chuckles softly at the thought, and looks up at the fluffy white shapes, tilting his head some.
"It is kind of quiet though... peaceful. Not something I'm used to, to be honest. I tend to move around a lot, and I've never really done something like this before." His head tilts another way and he squints slightly.
"There's a foxbun in that one, I think," his nose tilts up some more, pointing the way, "can you see it?"

Her mouth twitches with the smile when the buck looks to the sky and asks if she sees the foxbun. She follows his nose to where he is pointing and tilts her head this way and that in an attempt to see the foxbun.
Having finally spotted it she nods, "Yes, I see it." she blinks, "There is a flower there." she flicks her tail and motions towards it before turning back to Vertigo.
"If you would like we can talk." she offers, "I'm afraid I'm not used to company." she repeated, suddenly feeling very shy.
"You could tell me." she suggested, "- About the places you've been, I mean. The things you usually do."
