No matter when in this giant world he traveled, Li was always amazed at how small the trees were away from his tribe. The woods he was in now were incredibly tiny compared to his homeland. Tree's here could probably only hold a few foxes at a time, if that. How in the world did foxes function here? There was barely any hiding places and decent shade seemed hard to come by. Perhaps foxes didn't function here and that would explain why he hadn't seen any recentlly.

No, no. Surely there were foxes around, he just wasn't looking in the right places. The black and white 'phim made a graceful loop in the sky before diving to meet the forest floor below. Once on solid ground, Li sniffed the air for any sign of other life. After walking in a big circle and sniffing every bush and tree, Li finally picked up the scent of another fox.

"Alright." Li said to himself. "Time go to make a friend."

Naomi shook water out of her coat, having just been for a quick swim in the tribe's fresh water stream. She'd come to the far island to get space from her large family--that much noise grated on her neres after awhile.

Naomi sighed quietly at the thought. Part of her had always wished she wasn't born automatically into the tribe. She wanted a choice, she wanted to be able to roam on her own and see things, experience things she never had before. But no, it was stay here or get herself exiled and never see her family again. She didn't want that either.

Resigned to the idea that she was never going to have the freedom she wanted, the bright blue vixen turned to take her normal way through the tropical forest when a flash of black and white caught her eye. That wassn't right...

"Hello?" she called out cautiously, wondering who it was.

"Hello there!" Li called out to the voice he had heard from the forest up ahead of him. The voice sounded like it belonged to a vixen but Li refrained from making assumptions until he met the fox who had spoken.

It was easy to spot her once he had moved a little closer. The vixen before him was colored in beautiful shades of blue with black or dark blue markings. She looked as if she had just taken a swim, something Li had been itching to do since he had arrived at the island. He also noticed that she didn't seem hostile but she did seem a bit guarded.

"My name is Li." He said with a kind smile as he laid down to show he meant no harm.

Naomi looked over at the source of the voice and blinked in surprise. There were no Modiphims on the Islands, or at least none she had ever seen. But she had heard about this rarer species from older foxes...Modiphims were the good ones, right? Modidaevas were the violent ones.

She was pretty sure, anyway. Li seemed nice enough, so she dropped some of her reserve and padded closer to investigate his larger body and huge wings.

"Hi, Li," She said beltatedly, trying to figure out how those wings could propel such a large body into the air. Then she remembered the rule that staring was rude and shook her head at herself, making eye contact with him. "My name's Naomi. I'm sorry for staring, we've just never had a Modiphim on Bateau." She smiled sheepishly and shook some more water out of her fur before sitting down.

Li was a little weirded out as the blue vixen stared at him and he folded his wings close to him, becoming very self-conscious. The 'Phim couldn't help giving Naomi a confused look after she had finished speaking. There weren't any 'Phims here? That would explain why she was looking at him with such interest. It was easy to forget that not everyone in the world knew a 'phim since Li himself knew so many.

"That's alright. I forget that not everyone has seen a Modiphim before. I imagine seeing a winged fox appear before you must be shocking." He smiled kindly to Naomi and unfolded his wings a bit, making himself more comfortable.

"Bateau," he said looking up at the trees around them. "Is that what this place is called?" If there were no 'Phim's on this island, how did the other foxes make it out here? There was no way they had swam the whole way... Was there?

"Maybe not shocking," Naomi chuckled. "I've heard about winged foxes before, I just think it's interesting. And pretty cool." She smiled back and wrapped her tail around her legs, being careful not to look like she was staring. She didn't want him to be uncomfortable with her.

She smiled faintly as he mentioned the name of the tribe. "Mm, sort of, yes. This is actually just one island on a whole chain of them. We're on one of the furthest from the coast at the moment. Anyway, we call the islands themselves the Shipwreck Islands. Bateau is the name of the tribe that lives on them."

Ah, so he had stumbled across a tribe? So foxes really did live in all corners of the world. But wait, if Bateau was the tribe that lived on him, then that meant he was imposing on said tribe. Naomi didn't seem like she minded though. So maybe that meant that they weren't a hostile tribe and that they welcomed explorers? Li could only hope so.

"I see." Li said, nodding to the blue vixen. "How many islands are in the chain? And I had no idea I was landing in your tribes territory, so I'm sorry if my presence causes any trouble." He added the last sentence quickly as an afterthought. There were some tribes that were nice, but didn't take kindly to new foxes if they weren't there to join. The 'Phim hoped Naomi wouldn't ask him to leave before he got a few questions answered and had a chance to go for a swim. The water here was just to perfect for a swim to pass up.

"How many?" Naomi had to think about that. She had explored the islands countless times, but counting...that was more of Grandpa's thing. "I dunno, maybe six or seven big ones? I've never really thought to check to be honest," she chuckled. "I just know which island I'm on by landmarks."

Naomi didn't want to get dirt stuck in her wet fur, so she padded to a bare rock to lay down and sun herself. The one problem with swimming was definitely the long time it took to dry out. "And it's no problem, really. You're not near the headquarters of the tribe anyway, so it's not like Ianthe will no." She smiled mischievously; what Ianthe didn't know didn't hurt her.
