Okay, so this night was a bust. Of course, they were all busts in some way or another. Either she failed at destroying a monster, or she burned something, or she burned herself. Her hands were pretty okay but there was a half-inch of blistered skin around her left bicep and it was just inconveniently placed right around the cuff of her school jacket.

Anyway, she was on her way home, yawning and not even bothering to hit the rooftops because what was the point? It wouldn't go any faster, really, and besides that sometimes she set off burglar alarms. It was damned unfortunate.

Also, she was not going to kick cans, because that seemed to summon other magical sailor soldiers, and that was the last thing she wanted to happen to her that evening. Seriously.

Senri was leaving for the night from a job that had gone overtime, due to a minor electrical explosion. They had gotten it fixed, but even that had taken several hours. He could have rescheduled the job for a different day and time, but Senri didn't like to leave things half-done. "I'm sorry!" His manager had put her hands together, apologizing to Senri. "But as a apology, you don't have any jobs tomorrow?"

"Fine." Senri had agreed, to the very least - he could wake up at his own leisure tomorrow. But right now, it was late at night. Little taxis operated late at night, and the bus system ended their shifts at 11:30 pm. "Tch." Senri slid his cell phone open, seeing the time, 12:10. It was far later then it should have been. He wrapped his jacket tighter, the night air in destiny city were chilly. Due to the late time, there was not many places that would have takeout at this time of the night.

"I should have eaten." He told himself with a regretful sigh. But his manager has spotted him with a prepackaged melon bread and taken it out of his hands. "Tch." he responded with a disappointed look, and recieved a lecture as well.

But a different sight caught his eye, when he saw a young girl walking on the road walking towards him, dressed in an unusual outfit. There were only two types that wandered late at night.

He didn't hesitate to satiate his curiosity, asking his question as soon as their paths crossed. "Mind telling me why a girl like you would be wandering this late?"

Her first thought was that he was some kind of cop. Who else would be out at night? She didn't really trust Europa's stories of these "Negaversers" who supposedly stalked the street, and he looked too old to be a sailor soldier but too young to be a working adult. If he was a cop, could he be looking for... her? Sure, the cop hadn't caught her at any fires since the first one, but who could say he didn't get easily afflicted with a guilty conscience? Besides he talked like a cop, or at least acted like one. Why else would someone ask where she was going, all authoritatively?

Ugh.

She stopped, put her hands on her hips, and leaned forward a little. If she had heels, like Europa had, it would have worked better. Alas, she only had her own two feet and the magical equivalent of fireproof crocs. (Were crocs even fireproof.)

"Mind if I ask who's asking," she said, her scowl very marked in a pale and pretty face. "I mean, how do I know you're not a cop or some kind of creep who likes to go after pretty girls?"
PostPosted: Sat Aug 21, 2010 9:47 pm

Senri's mouth curved into a smile. Cop? He noticed her tension within his pale pallor, figuring out the puzzle pieces. "Did you do something wrong?" He asked in a lazy tone, clearly amused. However, at the mention of creep, Senri's face absolutely fell into a 'Uuuugghhh' expression, the dead lines on his face, full of disgust. He wasn't as amused, looking away. He should have expected that, but .. it was difficult to keep up with that when you were actually asked if you were a creep.

Answering her would be better then mistaken thinking on both of their parts. "Neither." he held up one finger to point out his first reasoning, "If I were a cop, I would be wearing a cop uniform. And secondly," He rapped her lightly on the head for this one, "Do I look like I would go for high school girls?" You could tell he took that comment personally. If Senri really wanted a girl, he could easily find one. He wasn't that desperate.

"For your information, I recently finished a job." He looked over at her attire, leaning in to ask, "Now, why don't you tell me what a young girl like you is doing out?" He might have emphasized that young, to prove their earlier conversation. He had a knowing smile, as if he knew something but he wasn't to confide yet. ".. That reminds me, the news have been talking about girls in short skirts running around at night. Would you be one of those impractical girls?"

"I'm a young, pretty girl," she said sourly, his disgusted expression turning her scowl into a plain, childish frown, "it's past my curfew." There was the unspoken duh, but after a minute, she relented. Mostly because he was walking her through why he wasn't a cop or a creep, and she wanted to pay attention so she could decide whether to punch him in the d**k and run like hell or if she should actually bother making sure this jerk got home safely.

Then she was scowling again. "Hey, usually I look really mature for my age," she said, "it's just this stupid uniform!" Damn magical sailor soldier uniforms, turning perfectly respectable seventeen-year-olds into fourteen-year-olds in the eyes of guys who were, she realized, pretty okay in the looks department.

That was exactly why she spread her hands. "You caught me. Sailor Gunn, Soldier of Wildfire. Anyway, what does it matter? Are you scared of the dark?"
PostPosted: Sun Aug 22, 2010 12:31 am

"Well," All right, Senri had to admit that the senshi uniform made it hard for people to take them seriously. Instead, he began to laugh when Gunn tried to defend her looks, confirming Gunn's opinions on her detestable outfit. "I can't help it." And it was maddening, because most people were polite enough to not laugh. Well, Senri certainly wasn't. What an a**.

Senri didn't look that surprised by her introduction, leaning against the wall after his burst of laughter. "Sailor Gunn? Soldier of Wildfire?" Senri repeated, "I believe the correct term was senshi, wasn't it?" Wildfires, hmm. Were they based off elements? Elements only within nature? Or otherwise? "You're pretty odd."

When she introduced herself, Senri decided that it wouldn't hurt to share his name. "You can call me Senri, Miss Gunn."

He ignored the impertinent question afterwards, meant to provoke him. "I had some questions for you.. unless you are incapable in some way of answering?" A charming smile towards Sailor Gunn, but it definitely wasn't a real smile rather then a mocking one.

Ugh, and now he was laughing at her! He couldn't help it? Well he'd better start because she wasn't going to be able to help the way her fist broke his picture-perfect nose.

(This was not a thought worthy of a sailor soldier. She took a deep breath, put her hands back on her hips, and glared at him.)

"Yeah, it's senshi, if you're Japanese. Except I'm not." She gestured to her face, an open palm indicating the Caucasian features, the unsettlingly perfect peachy skin, but mostly the sky-blue eyes. "I'm American, so I'll speak English, thanks." (Someone had a language superiority complex. It wasn't Gunn. No way was it Gunn.)

She combed her fingers through her hair, still scowling. "Yeah, nice to meet you," she said, "and anyway, I'm not going to spill the secrets of the pretty-suited sailor soldier to a civilian of all people."

He listened as the girl indicated her firm thoughts on the subject with a mild amusement at the frankness of her words. He looked at her features, "I see." Senri leaned in, lowering herself to eye level with Gunn, "It doesn't matter either way to me." Whatever she chose to call herself was her own business.

He stepped back lightly, not too bothered by her scowl at the end. But then again, this guy rarely looked bothered by much. But her response had him inwardly thinking ..'Smart girl'. After all, Senri wasn't exactly the type to volunteer information to just anyone either. "..Maybe you're not as hopeless as I thought." That may have been a compliment. Or not, according to Senri's condescending smile when he looked down upon the sailor scout.

"Mm." He looked non-committal to her refusal, "Hmm..?" Senri pulled out his wallet, flipping through his membership cards, business cards, and his ID. "Unlike you, joining the league of pretty suited sailor soldiers certainly isn't my intention." He was planning to stay out of that. For now. He dropped his wallet back into his coat pocket, and switched to his other hand, rifling through his pants pocket. "Will this be sufficient enough to convince you?" He pulled out an object attached to the end of his chain, holding it up for her to see. Upon closer inspection, it was an unmistakably black, white, and blue henshin pen.

"Will you answer my questions now? Or shall we waste both of our time by continuing to debate?"

Could this guy be anything more of a jerk? Why was she even standing here anyway, all she really had to do was turn and leap away. A civilian couldn't catch up, especially not one who looked (and okay, sounded a little like) he coasted on his looks. Well, she was kind of guilty of looks-coasting herself, but it was different when it was Gunn! She was all kinds of busy, between being a sailor soldier and being a student. This guy looked too old to be in school.

Also, no way was she hopeless. She was kind of not exactly the person you'd want to save you, but she was not hopeless. He was looking for something--she tensed, thinking it was a badge, because vigilante superheroism was definitely never, ever cool with the police, she'd seen enough Spiderman movies to know. Keeping a wary eye on Senri, she backed up a pace, just enough that when he held up the pen she had to step forward again to see what it was. "It's a transformation pen," she said after a minute. "Sure, that proves you know what a sailor soldier is and how we get 'in uniform' but it doesn't prove you are one. How do I know you're not a Negaverse guy who took somebody else's pen?"

She gestured to the black, white and blue pen, crossed her arms. "Get dressed, and then we'll talk."

Quote:
Senri sighed, raking his hand through his hair. "..If that is your wish." He conceded this once. It was clear he would get nothing otherwise. "Zephyr Power Make-up." The henshin pen in his hand began to flash, and a whirlwind surrounded the older male. He was temporarily concealed within a barrier, when the barrier released with a large gust of wind came forth. When the transformation was complete, Senri was costumed in his senshi uniform, his cape and hair fluttering from the after effects of his transformation.

"What did I tell you? I had no intention of joining your mini-skirt league." He let his glance fall to Gunn's skirt to signify the point. "Yeah, pants are doing pretty well." Fortunately, somebody had blessed the male with a (more than) adequate uniform.

He stepped back, taking the chance to loosen the collar and tie at the base of his neck. In a no-less-then-confident tone, he introduced himself as, "I am Sailor Zephyr, Senshi of the Wind."

"Do you believe me now, Miss Gunn?" He held up his henshi pen between two fingers, staring at Gunn with a smirk.

Quote:

For a minute, she looked impressed. Then she was scowling, flattening her skirt against her thighs like that would make it longer. (It didn't. Spoiler!) Anyway, it was a lot more modest than some people's uniforms, like Sailor Europa's. Europa's outfit looked a lot more like a swimsuit than an actual uniform. Senri--Zephyr? Zephyr's outfit looked a lot more like a military uniform of some kind--but with no weapon, no armor, and a sailor collar, he had to be a sailor soldier. Couldn't be the whatever else he was.

"Are you sure they're pants and not assless chaps," she said, stoically. "They don't seem to go all the way up." And he had a freaking tassel attached to his belt, anyway! At least the giant bow on her butt at least pretended to be cute! (She was not noting all the nice things his uniform did for his chest and his legs. Or how dashing the overall effect was. The wise would call her out on this.)

She shrugged, trying to look unimpressed and just looking embarrassed. "Yeah, sure," she said. "Nice to meet you, Zephyr."

Pause. "...so, what, is this an I show you mine I show you yours thing? Do I have to go back to being myself and transform back up?"

Quote:

Senri didn't miss her impressed look, although he did grin when Gunn tried to hide it. "Hmm? Are you jealous?" He leaned in, teasing her as one would tease their younger sister. "Coming from a girl with a short skirt, I don't feel that your argument holds much value." Zephyr remarked, much too casually. With a flick of his wrist, he henshined down as quickly as he had henshined up, reverting instantly back into his civilian form. He wasn't too fond of his Senshi form -- apparently.

"That would be a fair trade, wouldn't it?" Another bright smile to Gunn. "I would like to confirm that you're entirely human as well." Well, he didn't really have doubts on that. He just wanted to ascertain the fact to make it consistent with the information that he knew.

"But mind if we go somewhere else?" He looked behind Gunn, where a nearby playground resided. They could sit on the swing set that they provided for this conversation, rather then standing outside on the sidewalk.

Quote:

"Sure it does," she argued; "I'm going to study fashion at Pratt in a year, so I know a lot about clothes, and yours are irreparably dorky." Hers weren't so bad, the skirt was just short. ... and his outfit? Also not so bad, which was why she was still staring at him, her cheeks tinged a little bit watermelon pink. "Well..."

With that, she stepped back into a shadowier side-street. Zephyr may not care about people finding out his secret identity, but she did. No one needed to know that Kaatje van der Weydin was Sailor Gunn, Soldier of Wildfire. She took a deep breath and her soldier-skin fell away, leaving just... Kaatje. For a long moment, she stood there, impeccably attired in brand names and trendy clothes, and then she took out her henshin pen. "Gunn Power, Make Up," she whispered, tracing her circle and watching the fire roar up around her. When it faded, Sailor Gunn was back, and she was walking quickly, very quickly, towards the swingset.

"So," she said over her shoulder, "what is it you want to know, anyway?"

Quote:

"Ah, Pratt? Congratulations." Senri was familiar with that school, but his congratulations certainly didn't feel sincere. More like Senri was used to saying such things. Meanwhile, "M..hm." The pause in her word, the blush, and her stare was enough to convince Senri that she wasn't saying the entire truth. Senri said with a grin, meaning that he didn't believe her words at all. "Well, let's talk about that later." Their senshi uniforms was not one of his main concerns.

He followed the young girl into the street, just in time to see the defensive senshi shift into well-dressed young girl. She was like any other normal girl that Senri might have encountered in the richer parts of town. That gave him slight pause as Senri realized that any young girl (or male) could be a senshi. Although he took a careful step back from her transformation, having no desire to get unnecessarily burned. "Nice." He remarked on the impressive henshining up. He followed her, shoving his hands into his coat pockets.

"So, princess." Senri sat one one of the swing seats but he made no efforts to swing it. "What exactly does being a senshi entail? Late night escapades? Fighting monsters? Setting things on fire? Getting caught by the police?" That was not a pretty picture that he was painting.

Quote:

She scowled, balling up her hands by her sides. After a moment, she ended her transformation; sure, if someone like a floor mother thought to look for her, there'd be issues, but it looked a lot less weird for Kaatje van der Weydin to be sitting outside on a swingset with Senri than it did for Sailor Gunn. The charms on her belt jingled a little as she dropped into the seat, red curls bouncing. Unlike the more standoffish man, she did swing; just a little bit, the toe of her four hundred dollar sneakers never quite leaving the mulch.

"Thanks," she grumbled, staring angrily at the ground. If looks could kill, the grass in the park would have been demolished thoroughly, the look in her blue eyes was so venomous.

Princess? Pfeh. "My name is Kaatje," she snapped, jerking her head around so she was facing away from him. "You can use it, you know, it's not a killing word."

Then she flushed, flustered. He had just described what amounted to her sum of sailor soldier experience. "If you're me," she said. "A lot of the other sailor soldiers I've met haven't gotten caught once, or set anything on fire, or anything." With affected arrogance, she opined aloud, "They're just not doing it right... Unless you're a fire user like me, you're not gonna set stuff on fire. If you're careful and remember to run away, then you'll be okay with the police..."

What else did she wish someone had told her when she first donned the sailor collar?...

Quote:
He could see her internal struggle, between her senshi and civilian identities. But as she henshined down, Senri let out a sigh of relief. It would be much easier to converse with her in that clothing then it would be as a sailor.

He picked up on the details of her outfit, a instinctive reaction and assessed her. It wasn't difficult to tell her wealthy background, with her expensive clothes and shoes. Perhaps Crystal? She looked to be around that age.

Senri looked at her with an amused glance, finding her reaction to his coined term interesting. He chuckled, her shy reaction contrasting with her confident attitude. "My apologies. I thought you'd like that nickname more, Miss Kaatje." He drawled out, the smirk tugging at the corners of his mouth said otherwise.

But when she answered to her troubles, "I see." Senri could see how her domain could be a problem. "You seem to stand out a bit more then most then." That was putting it lightly, as if Senri wasn't speaking about the fact that Senshi were considered dangerous and wanted. "Why do you remain a senshi? You could easily ignore the problems of Destiny City." The tone of his voice was matter-of-fact, discussing it as if he could have less concern for the city they occupied. "Is it for the thrill? Or something else?"

Her scowl became more pronounced. Miss Kaatje? What was she, his boss or something? She wasn't anything like that, why the hell. "I prefer it to 'Miss' Kaatje," she said, sulkily. Ugh, so no matter what she was gonna be dissatisfied, so she'd go for the more tasteful one. She resigned herself, glaring at his shoes, to being 'princess' for the length of their acquaintance. One hand was disentangled from the rusted chain, she tangled it into her brilliantly orange curls, tugging.

The dark-haired man was still talking, so she looked up; her hands rested in her lap and she stopped swinging. Standing out more than most, that was one way to put it. It definitely was. People were already talking about the "arsonist", the anti-social, sociopathic senshi who enjoyed seeing the normal people suffer. Which was entirely not true! She did care! It was just that her powers were out of control, she didn't do it on purpose. If she could change it, she would!

"Yeah, whatever," she said, her sneaker dragging along the ground. "I dunno. It's something to do. My parents are dead, so it's not like anyone I know's in danger. So..." She ran impatient hands through her orange curls and sighed, gustily.
PostPosted: Mon Sep 13, 2010 1:26 am

"Well then, princess." Senri couldn't help but smile in that maddening way. He did clearly know what was wrong, but he wasn't particularly inclined to fix the problem. If he was a nice guy, perhaps it was possible. But he wasn't, and Senri didn't see himself changing any time soon. Besides, Senri was failing to see how it didn't suit her.

"What a surprise. I didn't imagine I'd have the pleasure of meeting the infamous senshi that's been frequenting the news." It wasn't hard to piece the puzzle together, her wariness of the police, her sphere as a sense, and the recent news reports. And at her admission, Senri ran his own hand through his dark blue locks, pushing his bangs back in the process. The imperfection made him look a bit more human, then his model appearance. "To simplify it, you have nothing better to do." And he sighed. Not as heavily as the young girl, but it was a sigh nonetheless. His curiosity on that matter had yet to be satisfied. "Well, I have better things to do then play hero."

He stood up, walking a few steps, and paused with his back facing towards Kaatje. "I don't understand why people have to be dragged into this." There an a hint of agitation in the air around him. What was senshi? Did they really think that by awakening him, he would somehow jump to defend others? To fight for love and justice, such insignificant factors. Was there a reason to fight? For nameless faces, for people he didn't know.

a**. She brushed off her capris, though they weren't messy at all, glaring at him like he'd done something terrible to her cat. Yeah, his summary was correct, it just sounded better the way she'd said it! Couldn't he have just left her alone already, or something?

(She appeared to have entirely forgotten she'd started this whole interaction.)

"Sure you do. Like having your picture taken and signing all kinds of s**t and being idolized by thousands of men and women as unattainable perfection," she said, bitterly. "That is so much more important than saving lives." So she wasn't actually all that life-saving, more like life-destroying, but she was trying, and he was just wasting his power.

She toed off her sneaker and kicked it at him. "Because the gods want to have a war," she said, as if the most obvious thing in the world. And no one would join the armies, so they had to make people, with the excuse that they'd been born as super-powered soldiers of love and justice. "Anyway, it's something to do." Kaatje hopped after her sneaker, slipped it back on. "I'm going home. See you."
PostPosted: Tue Sep 14, 2010 9:52 pm

"Not quite." Senri answered, a smile tugging on the corner of his lips at the description of his job.

He stared at the shoe which had hit his back, which wasn't all that painful. He would have picked it up for her, had she not hopped over to get it. "Feel better?" When a person physically took their problems out on somebody else, it normally did. Except with Senri as the person in question. But it did get the young girl's irritation across, Senri was grinning this time - partially in amusement at the young girl and how interesting she was. It was refreshing to see Kaate, with her emotions and holding nothing back. One always knew where they stood with her.

He stood up as well, taking the cue that their conversation was coming close to an end. "Aside from the heroics of the situation.. I suppose being caught by the police for being an arsonist and going to jail for it, never mind the fact that you've saved people's lives is much better?" Despite her valiant efforts, there would be people who would see it as otherwise. He was being selfish, refusing to do anything about the problems of Destiny City. He wouldn't deny that. But unlike others, the male had no problem with that.

"Shall I escort you home?" He followed a few steps behind her, since it was already this late, Senri didn't see how a detour would make a difference.

She glared up at him through her bangs, looked back down to her shoes to wiggle her foot back into its comfortable place. Really she would feel so much better if she'd gotten to do something more concrete than putting a dusty footprint on the back of his jacket, but her judgement was not that poor today, and she really didn't want to get sued.

For some reason Kaatje did not doubt Senri would sue.

"S-so I should just let people die when I could stop it?" Kaatje could see the benefits of doing that--better grades, fewer burns, although they never scarred they still looked and felt so strange. But all the same... all the same!

She stared stonily forward, crossed arms over her chest as she walked. "If you want to walk me home, that's fine. I'm not gonna make you."
