Zhenyuli plodded along in the summer grass of a pasture, soaking the warmth of the sun into her skin and letting it relax her. Her sister wasn't with her for once, which she was glad for. She'd said she wanted to be alone to meditate and try to connect with the spirits like Malis had been teaching them, but she really just wanted to think by herself, without having to be conscious of how she was behaving.

She looked like the spitting image of Sen'jin, and wanted to be a fierce, proud troll just like her father and grandmother, but she'd recently discovered a love of healing. She was compassionate towards all creatures, which was clearly becoming apparent to her, but the filly had no desire to appear soft and loving. Even her non-troll mother was strong, so Zhenyuli didn't know where this weak, personality that left vulnerable spots came from. All her edges just didn't seem to fit into her spot in her family.

Heavy hooves tread across the soft and light colored grass of the meadows as the soquili roamed restlessly. It was already becoming midday, and the adult had yet to make it to the river's edge to meet with his brother. Thankfully his brother had endless patience and a jolly attitude, so his late presence wouldn't be terribly scolded.

Snuffing to himself, Jumanjii flicked his tail as he paused to consider these lands. It was obviously near human territory, with how worn the soil was and all the faded footprints hidden beneath the grass. He had even made company with some of the tamer soquili of the lands. They had been unique conversations, from the reason to their painted fur to the ropes and leather that draped around them. Hn, such an odd lifestyle they had! But they had seemed just as happy as any wild soquili, and who was Manjii' to judge them? Even so, he had politely declined when they invited him to actually meet the humans. It wasn't at all his calling, and thus he found himself back out here in the calm wilderness, eager and thrilled to meet up with his brother.

As Zhenyuli meandered about the pasture, thinking about her family, she heard heavy footfalls coming near her. Her head whipped up, looking all around for the Soquili coming toward her. She saw a giant blue Soquili on his way across the meadow with various markings and a wild orange and blue mane and tail that had golden bangles in it like Malis'. He was strolling along at a leisurely pace, seemingly in no hurry to get wherever he was going.

Zhenyuli's eyes widened as she realized it was another troll from her clan, albeit a highly relaxed one. She cautiously trotted towards him, wondering what he was like, if he was similar to her own father, to Malis, or completely different, and if he'd be able to help her. She came fairly close to him, and looked up, summoning her best brave front and said, "Are ya related to Malis? 'Cause ya look like her."

Small ears perked to the sky as their was a faint disturbance and rustling in the grass to his far left. Pausing in his trot, the adult turned his head to scout the area behind him with wary eyes. It better not be a predator, as he was in no mood for a life or death scuffle. So needless to say he was pleased to find it be only a foal in the area, although her appearance made him tilt his head. Were those tusks in her mouth?

Curious now, Manjii' turned to better face this youth, giving a faint smile as she was the first to speak up. "Hehe, and what would you know of Malis? Honestly I be insulted you think I look like a girl." Even if that girl was the fierce Troll matriarch of his family. But he'd save that detail for later. Right now, he was more curious at who's offspring this girl was. Surely.....not his sister's child, right? Just goes to show how often he kept in touch with his family. Swishing his tail, the adult glanced side to side, wondering who was guarding the little lass at the moment. "Oy, where are your parents anyways?"

Zhenyuli hesitated for a minute, then gave the stallion a bright smile in response to his faint one. "She's my grandmother!" she replied, pleased that he knew the old mare, too. The filly giggled a little at his joke. "I didn't say that! But you're almost tha same colors!"

Zhenyuli scoffed at his other question, though. "Why does everyone ask me that?" The filly tossed her head. "I can take care a' myself. An' sometimes I jus' happen ta be alone. Bu' my parents are in the field jus' over that hill there." Trotting around him, Zhenyuli looked the other up and down, admiring his markings and especially his scar.

"I'm Zhenyuli. My papa's Sen'jin an' my momma's Ysiel. I'm growing up ta be a strong troll jus' like poppa and Grandma Malis. That's why I sometimes get ta go off by myself," she proclaimed proudly. "Who're you?" she asked curiously, head to one side. "You're a troll, too, right?" she asked. He certainly looked like one to her, and a fierce one at that.

The adult soquili grinned down at the youth, enjoying her lively disposition as it helped rid the boredom he was having just moments ago. "Why, Malis is my grandmother too. What a small world we live in." And he tilted his neck downward while quirking a brow at the child's sudden mood change. That was definitely part of the Troll blood showing, even if she was a mare.

"Why ask? Hn, I remember too well what it's like being small and wandering.Besides, why not; it's the responsible thing to do." Especially if his own mother had been around, she'd be cooing and fretting over the seemingly 'abandoned' filly. But Manjii' recognized the strong will within her, and so he shrugged it off by merely blowing some air to her fringy mane as he stood straight. The hill she spoke of wasn't too far away, though he did have to strain a little to pick up their scents. But what she said was true, their were others there that smelled like her, so at least she was an honest individual.

His examining took him awhile, and he was nearly too distracted to notice that the youth had already circled him with a quizzical look. Glancing down, Manjii' lifted his own brow at her antics. "Zhenyuli, ya say? Well it's a pleasure ta meet you properly." Ah, so that was the names of her folks. He was faintly familiar of Sen'jin, and the name Ysiel rang a faint bell. "My name is Jumanjii'. Though Manjii' works just as well, if ya must." And he gave a tusk-less grin to her question of his bloodline. "Yep, half Troll that is."

Zhenyuli squinted up at her family member. After scrutinizing him for a moment, she said, "Ya look old ta be a grandchil'. Shoudn't ya be my age?" Even if he was a young adult, he was much older than Zhenyuli, so it puzzled her how they belonged to the same generation. Leaving the question for the moment, she considered his other statement. "Well ya sure act like an adult, then" she stated, remembering a similar sentiment from a friend of hers. "I guess that's a good thing."

After Zhenyuli inspected him, she noticed her family member examining her himself. She looked back at him directly, proud in her bearing. "Pleasure ta meet ya, too, Jumanji. An' I'm half, too!" she said excitedly. Manji was the first family member the filly had met other than her own immediate family members and her grandmother. The two of them seemed to be very similar despite their age difference, which excited her. Maybe he'd be able to help her understand more about her family, and maybe about where she fit in with the clan. Certainly, he'd probably tell her where he fit into the family.

o____o

"Old?" Old.....that was certainly a first for his ears. But then again, he had nearly thought the same of Zhenyuli when she said she was also a grandchild. Oh well, it wasn't as if everyone bore offspring at the same time. Jumanjii had simply been born in an earlier season than the filly. But he grinned it away to her comment. "Haha, sometimes I wonder how much of it be an act." But he knew better. As cheery and lenient as he was now, he had behaved like more of adult earlier in his life. Frankly, a stern and grouchy adult that he was happy to have changed out from.

Flicking his heavy tail, Manjii' gave a small laugh. "And that's perfectly fine by me. I'd honestly be stunned to hear if ya were a full Troll." As big as their lineage was, the adult had yet to meet any other Troll bloodlines. He could only wonder how rare of a breed they really were then.

"In any case, you look more Troll than myself. Keep them tusks of yours shaved often, ya hear?" Heh, he learned that the hard way with his own sister. The tomboy had a sharp nudge to her own set of tusks that needed to be filed constantly as well.

Zhenyuli tilted her head at Manji's query of "Old?" Of course, she had meant that her cousin was an adult and she thought it was strange that they were both grandchildren but seemed so far apart in age. Naturally, being a foal, she didn't realize the implications of the word for adults and that Manji was actually probably closer to her in age than she thought. Ah, such is youth.

She giggled at his joke on himself, and thought that he seemed like a fun person to be with. She certainly thought he seemed like a good Troll, although maybe not as intimidating as he had first appeared.

Zhenyuli lifted her head in pride when he told her that she looked like a troll. That was one of the biggest compliments anyone could give the filly, although that was unknown to them. She furrowed her brow, though at his advice. "Why would ya want ta shave them? They're a symbol of our strength an' our pride! They're supposed ta be dangerous."

The adult stepped to the side for a moment, as the youth seemed busy absorbing all this new information. Looks as if the Troll family was often too busy traveling to visit one another like this. At least not frequently enough. Glancing up at his target, Manjii made his way up to a thin tree only feet away from the duo. Up high enough, hiding in some orange and yellow leaves, was an apple. And having a fruit snack sounded very good at the moment.

Pinning his ears back to her questioning voice, the male turned to look at her skeptically. My this filly had true spirit to her! But all the same, he was surprised that she didn't know of the habit concerning her tusks. "Haha, there's no doubt ta that! It makes me envious just thinkin of it. But even sharp items can be a danger to their owners...or even their friends. Just trim 'em enough so they aren't a heavy burden to ya."

Zhenyuli watched 'Manji wander towards a thin tree with an apple on it. The foal was happy where she was, though, content to watch how her cousin would get the fruit down. She cocked her head as her brows furrowed at his look. She was about to protest again, but then she thought of the all the times, especially recently, when she and her sister, Ewa, had been playing. Occasionally Ewa would get a few scratches from her tusks, nothing major yet, but definitely there.

"Well, tha' does soun' important. I'll definitely do that later." After that, Zhenyuli was silent for a moment, just watching the stallion. "So what do ya do in the clan?" she wondered, thinking of her father, the strong, brave guard of their borders.

Giving a firm kick near the center height of the trunk, the stallion stepped back to the ground while turning his eyes upward. The thinner branches above shook from the impact, enough so that the heavy apple on the end snapped off and plummeted to the ground. What Manjii hadn't expected was a second apple to fall as well, landing with a thud on his rump before it rolled through the grass.

"Tch, that stung." He flicked his tail as he glanced down, hearing out Zhenyuli's final decision. At least she took it into consideration, despite her initial grumpiness over the whole tusk matter. But hey, healthy tusks were strong tusks! The adult faltered, however, when the girl asked him of his own status. It almost made him withdraw from the other troll, with a sudden urge to travel away.

"I don't stay with the clan, actually. So no, I have no rank there."
