Will pay 100 for every helpful answer!

Alright, so my sensei is Dutch and has written a Dutch book or two on All-round budo.

Now, he wants a compilation with English translations.
I may be able to express myself well in both languages, translating isn't always that easy. Especially if you don't want to repeat certain words every other sentence. <<

So, I'm humbly inquiring your help.
I would like to know all the possible names for kicks, punches and combinations of those.

And names for controlling techniques, holds, submissions.

That's where we start. 3nodding

I'm dutch as well. Is your sensei edgar kruyning by the way? I noticed his two books going around on all round-budo. Yoseikan.

Possible names for kicks etc.? In japanese or english? I'd try to go with the original language of the art, like jodan mawashi geri for a high roundhouse kick. Helps with people all over the planet who want to know what technique it is about. I find it silly when I hear people say "slag met meshand naar de bovenkant van het gezicht." instead of "shomen uchi". xd

Well your intention is a bit unclear? You want a list in english for all the words that mean kick for example? Roundhouse, side, etc. etc?

(Ah just curious. mrgreen )

Yes, my teacher was (and is) Edgar kruyning. ^^
I'm just looking for a quicker way of saying "punching and kicking techniques"
And I'm not sure wether striking techniques include kicks. <<

I'd say they include kicks. I'd list the English and Japanese names and then a brief discription in a type of glossary and then just refer to the techniques by their Japanese names whenever possible. Mainly due to the fact that you're working on a book of Japanese techniques.

Not the case. It's all-round and includes grappling, mixed fight/free fight, kickboxing as well as several different Japanese disciplines.

So yeah, terms kind differ depending on what's demonstrated.
For example, here, he demonstrates how you can combine kickboxing with judo.
So the stances are kickboxing stances and kicks will be given the usual names they have in kickboxing.
Just like if we're doing judo, he'll call it a sankaku, while if we're doing grappling it becomes a triangle choke. ^^;

Here's another word: leverstoot.
A punch to the liver, is there a specific word for it??

I have no idea, maybe somebody around here does boxing? Any ideas?

I use mostly western terminology when teaching, with some japanese. We always refering to the liver shot as the "upset punch", it's more of a nickname though.

Heh.. where I learnt an "upset punch" usually refers to hitting an uncomfortable area.. so a flat finger tip strike to the groin is also an upset strike..

In all honesty "liverpunch" or "punch to the liver" is as close as you are going to get.. "upset punch" could also be used but I'm reasonably certain that can be used to describe punches to the kidneys aswell..

Okay, the next one.
Changing from a stance where your left foot is at the front to one where your right foot is on the front to do a left low kick.
The name, please. XD

---edit
Also, the name of an armbar... but when it's done on a leg, not an arm. XD

Switching stance? For clarification: you are doing a low left kick with the right foot in front? Seems kinda backwards...
no idea on the legbar
