After performing his services for Lord Yizhaq, Chauhn found himself woefully lacking in purpose. After the attack on the Fellowship, things were tense in the handsome estate they made their residence in, and there was little to do for a boy whose only skills were waiting, serving, running errands, and cleaning chimneys. While others provided helpful knowledge, and employed fantastic skills, Chauhn was merely in the corner getting in the way, wide-eyed and staring with nervousness at the hustle and bustle surrounding the aftermath of the attack. When he wasn't shoved back into the corner, Chauhn was eagerly following his Lord around, piping in whenever an occasion arose.
"Ah can help, sir! Ah can help. Whot can ah do? Can ah help?"
But his offers fell on deaf ears, and when they were actually heard, the kind Lord shook his head softly and motioned for Chauhn to leave the room. The boy's intentions may have been kind, but he was doing little more than getting in the way. And it wasn't just around Lord Yizhaq, but everywhere else in the estate. He would impede some man's path, or make himself an obstacle for some important passerby. Eventually, Chauhn found himself herded to the outside doors and, with a bitter bite of his lip, turned his back on the buzzing building and stumbled away through the snow, his arms wrapping around his shoulders.
For some time, he walked, somber and sullen, until he came to a lone barren tree. Checking back over his shoulder, he made sure that he was still within sight of the estate should any emergency arise, and, despite the tenseness in the air, Chauhn didn't mind being outside alone. The haunting suspicion of the Obscuvians still pressed on his mind, urging him to return to the estate lest he become the victim of yet another foul trap, but he worried more, at the moment, of being in another adult's way, than meeting up with an Obscuvian. Besides, he wasn't really alone.
He had Clurie.
Digging up from his clothes to bear his cheeks at the cold air, little Clurie frowned at their new surroundings. He quite disliked the cold, and, seeing so much of the white everywhere distressed and bothered him. Rotating around in his brother's collar, refusing to move any more upward than that lest he risk losing the body heat he so desperately needed to have to keep himself from becoming stiff, Clurie made a loud case of his disapproval.
"Brother! All this white stuff! It is cold. It's COLD. The air is cold! Can't we go back inside?"
Chauhn shook his head, sitting himself on the gnarled roots at the base of the tree. He propped his back against the bark and folded his arms on his chest to perhaps keep his Plague warm. "No," he said bitterly, "We're 'n the way there, righ' now, Clurie. We jus' ge' 'n the way. There's nothing useful for me t'do." Tucking his chin close to his chest so he could feel Clurie's warm little body rest and curl underneath his chin, Chauhn gave a long brooding sigh, "If'n ah could do somethin' more...Like fight or...Or do magic...Or somethin'...Because righ' now, all ah am is Chauhn...Chauhn the page, Chauhn the boy. There's nothin' more to me than that."
"You're a brother," Clurie offered up helpfully. Chauhn let a little smile slip onto his face and he curled his hand around Clurie in a protective hearth.
"Ah am," he agreed. But still...Being just a brother wasn't enough to protect and help others, nonetheless his precious Clurie.

Jin-Ho couldn't help but want to stay away from the hussle and bustle as members of the castle all did what they could, whatever that entailed. Everything was so lively, so busy, and it would give him a head rush. He did have an excuse, though, now that Blaithe had shown her face. Of course, he's had to get used to a new brush since then, but she was worth it.
"Oji! What's going on?" the newlyborn Phasmas said as she poked her head out of the small pocket Jin-Ho had made for her to sit in. Oji had become his nickname right off the bat when Blaithe learned his name.
It was also something he had become adjusted to as soon as she said it. This must have been what it felt like to become a father.
"Everyone is just trying to make the castle more secure. That way everyone's more safe." Jin-Ho cupped his hand in front of Blaithe, a signal to climb out. She did so, crawling out of the pocket and onto his hand, which she immediately began to doodle strange little markings on. He smiled, holding her close as he wandered the halls. She would get a much better view from there.
As they walked, a wind-blown tapestry had caught Blaithe's attention, immediately having her look up at Jin-Ho. "What was that?" She pointed to the tapestry, "Why did it move?"
Jin-Ho then directed her toward the window as he took a step closer, "It's the wind, Blaithe. It's coming from out..." His thought cut short. Was that Chauhn outside? Didn't he and Clurie dislike being outside?
...Clurie!
Excitement welled inside Jin-Ho as he returned is glance to Blaithe. "Would you like to make a new friend today?"
Blaithe beamed up at him, the only feature expressing her excitement was her mouth. Of course she wantd to make a friend! She hopped in his hand, holding on to Jin-Ho's thumb as to make sure she didn't fall off. "Who am I going to meet?"
A smile spread on Jin-Ho's face as he directed his attention back to the window. He pulled his hand closer, palming Blaithe gently as he leaned forward. "HEY, CHAUHN! COME INSIDE!" He waved his free hand out the window to get his attention further, then motioned for him to come. "Meet me at the front hall!"

Lost in the white, lost in the guilty reverie of possibilities and regrets of things he couldn't do or couldn't become, it had took a press of Clurie's little hot hands against his neck to awaken him. Jerking and snapping his hands up to pry Clurie away from his neck and hiss with pain, he looked down at his brother with obvious hurt and irritation, "Whot issit, Clurie? Must y'hurt me every time you 'ave somethin' to tell me?"
Clurie thought little about the hurt he inflicted on his brother. For all he knew, it just got his attention and the fact that his hands were leaving little burn marks all over his neck, making a ring of scar tissue, was a fact he often overlooked. Forgetfulness was Clurie's creed and he focused on the now, the task at hand. Wiggling himself free from Chauhn's hand, the little Phasmas waved his arms towards the building.
"Inside! We should go inside."
Chauhn gave a heavy sigh in response, "Clurie, ah just got done tellin' you that we get 'n the way. Or did you forget tha' t--"
"No, brother, it's the paper man! He just called us inside. He wants us to meet him in the front hall. Where's the front hall? Have we been there before?" Clurie asked, bubbling with questions. He crawled up onto Chauhn's palm and pointed again with enthusiasm towards the building, smearing ash all over his skin as he moved and waved about.
"The paper..." Chauhn had to take a moment to think before he realized just who his brother was referring to. The Imisese scribe, Jin-Ho! Out here as far as he was from the building, Chauhn hadn't heard him cry out. Lifting up, nearly knocking Clurie off his hand, he looked towards the building just in time to see Jin-ho wave one last time and move away. "Oh! Clurie, back 'nto m'collar." And he moved his brother's small body towards his collar were he felt his simple weight fall and scramble against his neck for a hold.
Getting up from the tree's roots, Chauhn stumbled awkwardly and slowly back to the building, wrapping his arms about his shoulders. He bit back the cold, and with steamy puffs of air, made his way to the front hall, and once he stepped inside he gave into a frantic shivering, glancing about for Jin-Ho.
"Ah wonder whot 'e could want..." he muttered.

As soon as he was sure that Chauhn had seen him, Jin-Ho bolted down the hall; his tiny companion held securely against his chest. He was so excited! If it weren't for the fact that he had promised Sloane that he would be the first person he showed Blaithe to, Chauhn and Clurie would have been his first choice, or maybe Georgie and Adal. Clurie had been the first Phasmas he had seen, and he was excited to see how the two of them would get along.
Blaithe had, once again, busied herself with Jin-Ho's hands, becoming frustrated with his bobbing run. "Oji! Stop running!" She grabbed onto the cloth of his over-shirt, leaving a small, pink stain, "You're messing me up!"
Jin-Ho didn't slow down, keeping at a constant speed as he weaved in and out between the busy-bodies of the castle, making sure not to have someone accidentally bump into his hand and hurting his little Blaithe. He couldn't imagine anything happening to her, nor did he want to. If she were to get hurt, he wasn't sure what he would have done. He had grown quite attached in the short time that she had been a Phasmas. Naturally, he was curious as to how she'd be once she reached Anhelo, but that would need to wait. He didn't want to feel like an old man quite yet.
Quickly turning the corner, Jin-Ho ran past the last of the rooms leading toward the main halls before spotting Chauhn. "Aah! There you are!" he yelled, slowing his pace to a jog as he got closer. "I have someone that I want you to meet!"
Jin-Ho held out his hand like a child who had just caught a bug would have. Blaithe continued drawing all over Jin-Ho's nearly paint-soaked hand.
"I'd like you to meet Blaithe!"

With his chin still chattering away the bite of the cold, Chauhn watched with blinking eyes as Jin-Ho hurriedly advanced. There was something in his movements that Chauhn hadn't seen before. From his previous experiences with the man, he was a calm and quiet man, his personality subdued underneath his dutiful air. He had never before seen him with as much energy as he had now. His face was alive and a grin was pulled up, as if expecting something exciting to happen. Chauhn couldn't help but let the corners of his own mouth pull up ever so slightly in an awkward smile, as if to reflect the man's eagerness. He wasn't quite sure what the man could be so excited about, until a little rustle and scramble around his neck snagged his attention.
Clurie could smell the moist scent of death at the first sight of Jin-Ho as he rounded the corner. His little cheeks flared alive, emitting a dull glow, for sure, there was a scent of death on the air, a kind of wet and sharp stink that Clurie knew all too well to be a familiar and comforting smell, the smell of his kindred, his brethren. Shaking like a flame in the wind, the little Phasmas expelled a happy puff of ash from his frantic movements and breath as he jumped and waved.
"Brother, I smell them! I smell them. It is another like me," Clurie piped, his ashy voice an excited break, "Can you smell them? I can smell them. Oh, brother, it smells so sticky sweet."
Chauhn's eyes widened and his smile sagged into a surprised gape. Sure enough, when Jin-Ho closed the distance between them and opened his palms to display a hardly visible little body precariously cradled in the center of his hands. Chauhn blinked once, twice, his body still violently shivering, and then again for a third time. And, quite dumb, he stared with the likeliness of the urchin he used to be seeing a gold coin for the first time.
"She..." Chauhn wanted to say "grow", but, in this case it seemed rather more like the man's Plague, "...shrunk."
Clurie, who was far past making observations, was hanging out of Chauhn's collar, waving with his fingerless gloves. "Hi! Hello! Hey, hi! Hey there. Who are you? Are you like me? Or am I like you? You belong to the paper man, don't you? Why are you all bright? Hey, paper man, she's yours, right? Are you a brother too, like Chauhn is to me? No wait, you're called something else...I can't remember...Hold on...I got this...I can remember..."
Clurie paused for a moment and went completely still, tapping at his chin with his finger.
Chauhn, on the other hand, was finally able to make a more worthy pass at conversation, "Jin-Ho, sir, ah can't believe it! She's a pretty one, tha' she is. Y'must be as 'appy as a fisher with a full net." He leaned in closer, squinting his eyes to better see the tiny Plague, "A pleasure t'mee' you, Blaithe. Ahm Chauhn, and this," he gestured to his neck where his little brother was still having trouble remembering an escaped word, "This is m'brother Clurie."
"Grimm!" Clurie shouted victoriously.

The boy's reaction to Blaithe really didn't surprise Jin-Ho; it was one of his first thoughts as well. Her original form, the brush, was about six inches long. Now she was no bigger than a sixth of her starting size. The man found it adorable, part of her charm. The Phasmas' bright colors made it easy to keep an eye on her, seeing as she was easy to spot, keeping her size from being an issue.
Blaithe stayed sitting, looking up at Clure with a huge grin. The pink hue to her skin brightened in excitement. One of her own! Was this her friend? She urged Jin-Ho's hand forward, pushing his fingers toward Chauhn's collar so that she could be closer to Clurie. Unable to get a word in, she waited until the Excitos got caught in his own thoughts before speaking. "Hi! What's your name? I'm Blaithe!" She tried to stand, her wooden leg making it difficult before giving up and sitting back down.
Jin-Ho beamed with pride, offering his other finger for Blaithe to hold herself up with. "I was almost worried that I had lost her! All I knew was that my brush was gone! I found her in my drawer, glowing faintly in the back."
Blaithe gratefully took the man's finger, quickly standing up and leaning herself over with arms outstretched, as if asking for a hug from Chauhn. Mister Chan already knows my name? Clur...? It's nice to meet you!"
"She wants your nose or finger," Jin-Ho explained, lifting his hand closer to Chauhn and Clure. He enjoyed watching her interract with others and he was glad that she seemed to like these two. He smiled, "I've only had her for a short while, but she's already so important to me... As strange as it was, I'm glad the old man gave her to me."
Clurie's recollection amused both Jin-Ho and Blaithe, who then bounced up and down, leaning over the man's hand once more. "Yes! Oji is my Grimmy! He takes good care of me!"
"She enjoys the paper as much as you do, Clurie!" Jin-Ho chuckled, nodding a head in the direction behind him and started walking. "What were you two doing outside? It's a chilly day, don't you think?"
Jin-Ho pulled out a small, folded piece of paper that he had tucked away inside his cloak, handing it to Chauhn. "I'm sure Clurie wasn't very fond of it.

Without having much need to bend over to observe the little Plague, Chauhn raised his brows with amusement. She really was quite small! In fact, he just....couldn't get over the fact of how small she really was. She was even smaller than the longest digit on his finger! Lifting up his hand, with a momentary glance for permission in Jin-Ho's direction, Chauhn beckoned the colorful Plague onto his palm so that he could place her on his shoulder with Clurie, who was, by this time, clambered out onto his shoulder pad to freely move about on the makeshift plush platform.
He was smearing his ash all over Chauhn's shoulder, shivering off little quick burning flakes that fell to the fabric, with his excitement to meet a fellow Plague. His cheeks were bright yellow with anticipation and his little Phasmas face was stretched into a fantastic white grin.
"Hi! Yes, hello!" he shouted back, clapping his hands together and emitting a cough of ash and solitary spark of flame. He tucked his thumbs beneath his overall straps and gave a proud grin, "I'm...I'm..." he paused, then looked up at his brother for a few moments before he was able to remember, "I'm Clurie! Clurie Clemmings. A Clemmings is loyal, hardworking, and loyal. Wait, did I already say that? Uh...Clemmings is...Hardworking..." Again, Clurie paused, "Chauhn?"
"Yes?"
"What is a Clemmings?"
Chauhn sighed, glancing again apologetically at Jin-Ho, "A Clemmings is loyal, hardworking, and independent."
Again, Clurie paused, slowly digesting the information. With a tap at his chin, he asked, "Chauhn, am I a Clemmings?"
Chauhn tried his best to sound amused when he chuckled instead of hapless and exasperated, "Yes, yes you are."
Victorious and well assured in his title and self, Clurie again struck a pose, his hands on his hips and legs planted strong underneath his short figure, "Yes! I am Clurie, Clurie Clemmings, loyal, hardworking, and independent!" Though, Chauhn, who listened to his brother's proclamation wryly though about the irony of the statement. His brother was, in fact, completely opposite of hardworking and independent, and he was sure that there were grounds where he could argue the "loyal" point. That was the injured part of Chauhn thinking though, and he quickly shut that way of thinking away from his mind.
"'s'a good thin' you foun' 'er," Chauhn said, jumping back into conversation with Jin-Ho as he started meandering down the hallway. He made sure to walk carefully with the two little Phasmas on his shoulder, "They 'ave an odd way o' attachin' themselves to you very quickly, sir." He took the offered paper in his hands and held it for his brother while they moved.
The hallway they walked in was largely uninhabited besides the silent guards who stood posted beside the entrances. Chauhn gave a small sigh, dutifully answering Jin-Ho's question, "Ah was tryin' to stay ou' o' the way, sir. After the attack 'n' all, there's so much goin' on 'n m'master's place tha' ah can't 'elp wit'. Ah ge' in the way. So ah was outside, to stay out of it, since there's nothin' much a boy like me can do t'help."

With the help of Jin-Ho, who nodded as soon as Chauhn glanced for permission, Blaithe was lifted and gently placed in the hands of the young boy. She was excited! Once she was placed on his shoulder, she held on tightly to the collar of his shirt for support, her wooden leg not helping her balance without help.
Blaithe watched Clurie in silent admiration as he introduced himself once more, the blush on her translucent face growing by the second. He was so much bigger than her, even though they were the same! "You're bigger than me, like Slo! Except you're not that big! He was huge!" She struggled to stand up, but once she had, she reached for Clurie's hand for support rather than Chauhn's collar.
Jin-Ho's smile widened to see Blaithe as happy as she was. He then turned his attention back to Chauhn now that he knew Blaithe was in good hands. He understood where the boy was coming from. He, himself, did his best to stay out of everyone's way at this time. He was still merely practicing his magic and wasn't of much use when it came to building or anything useful that required anything other than sitting and writing. Leading the four of them down the familiar halls of the castle, their destination was obvious; the dining hall. The fireplace would be good for Clurie, and Jin-Ho had brought plenty of paper for the brush and ashes.
"I tell you what; any time you feel like you're in the way or have nothing to do, find me. Unless I'm in a meeting or out of the castle, I generally try to stay out of everyone's way, too." His offer was honest and surely would give the boy more options than outside in the cold. Even on the warmer days of the year, the bite of the cold was still enough to make you shiver.
"Aah, here we go," he said, pulling the double doors of the large dining room for the boy and two Plagues to enter. The warmth greeted them as soon as the doors were open.
"Whoa! It got warm!" Blaithe bounced on her toes, holding on to the baggy cloth of Clurie's shirt. "Where are we? Isn't this where we saw Slo? It is! What are we doing here? Are we going to see him, again?"
Once again, her excitement was quite obvious as she hugged Clurie's arm. "I wanna see Slo again!"
Jin-Ho couldn't help but let out a laugh, setting out a few sheets of paper for the two Excito and then leaned back. "No, Sloane isn't going to be here, Blaithe. It's just the four of us."

Following along carefully behind, Chauhn made sure every step he placed was as gentle as could be. He didn't want to upset the Plagues' balance on his shoulder and throw them to the whim of gravity. Moving just behind Jin Ho as they navigated their way to the dining room, a familiar place of their past meetings, Chauhn felt himself slip into a more comfortable state. Coming to a place that they've come to before was definitely a safe thing to do, especially for one who was as skittish as a door mouse. He relaxed his stance and meandered to the fireplace, settling himself down as carefully as he possibly could, he even steadied himself in his descent by grasping the edges of the fireplace mantle until he was on his knees.
On his shoulder, Clurie sighed, grateful for the new and warm environment. "What luck! Warmth!" he crooned, "This is much better." Then Blaithe started rambling on about Sloane. With his attention perking, Clurie commented happily, "Sloane is my brother's hero. It's true."
Then his brother jostled beneath him. Clurie, as they wobbled for balance on his brother's shoulder, plucked up Blaithe's little form and held her to him as his brother moved down beneath him. With his little mouth pulled up in a great smile, he made sure that neither of them fell or slipped from their place. And when his brother finally settled, he released his grip from around Blaithe and placed her on his side, his arm still extended for her to hang upon.
The crackle of paper quickly distracted him and his cheeks began to glow as he saw the exchange between Jin Ho and Chauhn.
"Paper! Chauhn, I want it, can I have it? Please! I've been good, and I haven't burned anything on accident, I've been absolutely in control! Right? I have been..." Clurie's excitement started to come to a churning halt as he struggled to remember the events past, "Well...I did burn your socks...But I didn't mean to. Can I still have the paper?"
Keeping back an exasperated sigh, Chauhn put the paper in the fireplace before reaching up to his shoulder. With his cheeks as bright as flame, Clurie carefully jumped forward, easily picking up Blaithe to drag along with him. They were placed down carefully on the tile and allowed to freely roam. Clurie, making sure that Blaithe was still attached to his arm, made a bee line for the paper.
Chauhn, in the meanwhile, free of the little Plagues, adjusted his seat on the fireplace corner so he could face Jin Ho. He offered him a weary smile, "Ah take your offer kindly, sir, ahm sure ahll 'ave time to come to you when ahm not o' any use. But that's simply the problem, sir, Ahm o' no use. Ah wan' t'do somethin' more than just runnin' errands 'n' cleanin'. Ah wan' to be somethin' more. Ah want to protect myself 'n' m'brothers. 'N' others! Ah want to be more useful."

The small, female Phasmas stared at the slightly larger, male one, her features contorting in awe. Sloane had saved Clurie's Grimm? How amazing! Then again, Sloane was amazing! He was so big, he could have done anything!
At least, in her eyes.
"Really? Slo saved him? That's so cool!" She would have gone on but her words were cut short by an excited giggle as Clurie lifted her with ease, her arms automatically wrapping around his neck until she was placed back down onto Chauhn's shoulder. She had never been picked up in such a way before, it was fun! Blaithe liked others her size! They could interract with her better!
Then paper had been mentioned, her blush glowing brighter along with the other Excito's, and being lifted again. Blaithe giggled happilly as she was carried from one place to the other, Clurie's warmth spreading along her torso and putting her in a better mood. The warmth was so much nicer than the cold, but she could handle both.
"You like paper? I do, too! Especially fresh paper!" Blaithe held tightly to Clurie's shoulders, only letting go once she new she had balance on her own. "Do you like to draw? It's so much fun! Will you draw with me?"
Blaithe fell backwards, landing gently on her bum and scooted forward so she could reach a sheet of paper. As soon as her translucent fingers touched the dry parchment, she quickly worked to cover the page in small pictures and charicatures.
Jin-Ho listened quietly as Chauhn explained his position, holding up a hand once the boy finished. "Now that's not true, Chauhn. You're useful, despite how you feel about it." he nodded, extending his arm out to pat his shoulder. He could empathize with wanting to be of more use, to be better.
"I bet you didn't know this, but I have to go to a tutor for my magic," Jin-Ho said, leaning his elbows against his crossed legs. He, himself, wasn't the best at magic, but he did his best to practice and learn more. He was mostly good at defensive and healing spells, but he needed to know more to become a greater soldier. "Every other day, I go to practice to get better. It's tiring, but it's worth it."
Offering the boy a smile, he glanced over at the two Phasmas' playing next to them, his expression going from sympathetic to almost proud.
"Just because you don't have strong magical abilities right now doesn't make you useless. Both Blaithe and Clurie will one day harness magic, though it seems as though Clurie is already in touch with his." Jin-Ho turned his eyes back to Chauhn, studying his expression. This boy was easy to talk to, now that it seemed as if Chauhn was slowly growing more comfortable. Maybe their similar Plagues had something to do with it, but this was... fun.

Clurie bolted to the paper as quickly as his little legs could allow. He claimed a corner for himself and gathered it to him, forcing the straight plane of paper to crumple and buckle in his grip. It made such wonderful sound! It sounded, almost, just almost, like the crackling of a hearth's flame, the pop and snap of wood breaking beneath the hungry gnaw of fire. It was a sound as comforting to Clurie as was the beat of his brother's heart.
As his little companion began to doodle and draw upon the paper, Clurie, with the tight squeeze of his arms, released his hug. he brought his gloved hands to his face, rubbing his cheeks until they glowed hot like cinders, and then, with the grip of his now warmed up hands, he set the corner of paper he claimed on fire. Burning away the plane with each close of his fingers. He turned the paper brown, made it buckle and shrink away from him, its edges alive with hot highlights of pulsing light, and, with the shifting of his fingers rubbed it away into ash, which he picked up and stuffed into his mouth, an odd snack.
With his mouth full, he turned to Blaithe, his head tilted in confusion, "Draw? No, I don't draw. I burn and eat." he said, nibbling again on another piece of burnt paper.
Chauhn watched as his plague began to destroy the piece of paper, keeping himself content with his corner of the paper while Blaithe became heavily involved in hers. He listened quietly to Jin-Ho's supportive commentary, his shoulders still slumped, and when the other patted his shoulder, he flinched from the tough and he turned his slanted eyes to him. He seemed no less convinced about the amount of his own worth.
"Useful," Chauhn echoed, he knew that much already. He was useful, but not in the way that he wanted to be. Then came the subject of magic. Chauhn felt his shoulders sag even further, "But Jin-Ho," he said, his voice plaintive and defeated, "Ah don't know 'ow t'do magic. Ah don't even know 'ow t'read. Ahm only an Augur, 'n' ah can't do anythin' else but clean, follow orders, 'n' run messages. Ahm goin' t'stay an Augur until ah die. Magic...Ahm certain ah can't do magic, ahm only a orphan, a servan'. But..." his gaze drifted towards his brother, whose magic abilities were already blooming, "Ah suppose ahll jus' 'elp Clurie get control o' 'is magic. Ah jus' wish ah could do somethin' more for 'im. Defend 'im. With the Cultists bein' as they are, ahm afraid ah be captured again by them, or Clurie will be taken, 'n' ah won't 'ave anythin' to really defend 'im with like you could, or like Sloane."

Jin-Ho's eyes wandered from Chauhn, but his attention remained fully on the boy. His pessimism wasn't much of a surprise, knowing where the boy had come from, but it just didn't sit well with him. He was now in a new home, being taken care of, having work and "friends," as Jin-Ho would like to think. He was still young, still had a long life ahead of him.
Not that Jin-Ho had too terribly much room to talk, given that he was only barely less than a year from turning twenty-five.
Jin-Ho's eyes drifted across the room until they finally landed on the two Phasmas, both heavily involved with their entertainment, before them. A quietly spread across his face. "Well, that doesn't necissarilly mean that you can't learn, right?" The fact that the young lad was comfortable enough to call him by his first name warmed the man's heart. "You can be taught," he hummed, resting his arms against his legs, still smiling down at the two Plagues, "I can teach you... what I know about magic, how to read... it's all in the will."
His eyes went back to Chauhn's face, his expression calm and relaxed. "It's hard sometimes, yes, but you just have to have a strong enough want, a strong enough will and you can do almost anything."
It was at that point that Jin-Ho couldn't help but laugh. He was a young man, himself, but he sounded as hoakie as an old man, or like some moral from a story book. He wanted to do what he could to help the boy, even if it was lame. Chauhn was the only other Ismisian person he was ever around, and he wanted him to grow up happy.
As the two Grimms conversed, Blaithe's attention was all over her piece of paper and her companion. His disinterest in drawing upset her, but only by a tad. It was quite amusing to watch him deal with his own paper, at least. She had never seen someone eat such a magnificent supply of the arts! It was quite beautiful to look at, admittedly.
"So what does it taste like? I've never eaten paper..." her tiny head turned to her Grimm, "Oji, have I eaten paper?"
Jin-Ho's attention momentarily broke from Chauhn as he laughed, surprised by the sudden, and strange, question. "I don't believe you have, unless while I wasn't around. I... don't even think you have eaten anything..."
Content with Jin-Ho's answer, Blaithe turned her attention back to Clurie as he still quickly burned and consumed the once perfectly white page. "If you don't like to draw, what do you do for fun, Clur?"

Chauhn glanced up again to Jin-Ho, his frown softening as the man listed out strands of helpful advice. They were all valid options, all things that Chauhn could endeavor on, and why he hadn't thought of them before was a mystery to the boy, though, when he thought longer on it, he wasn't jaded to discover that he was just refusing to think in a constructive manner. He lifted up, letting his shoulders relax from about his ears. With one hand, he lifted his hat from his head, and raked his fingers through his hair, somewhat bashful in realizing that he had been stubborn up until this point, though the bitter aftertaste of despair still clung to his mouth. He tried his best to offer a somewhat more cheery smile than what he was managing before.
"Ah...Ah don't know. Ah suppose, maybe...Ah don't know if ah got wha' it takes," Chauhn confessed, but he tried to strike a more hopeful tone, "Could you really teach me those things? Ah would...Ah need to learn tha'...M'lord Yizhaq wants me to learn to read and write, 'n' ah only know a few numbers 'n' the first letter of m'name. Ah would very much like to read 'n' write. Even do magic, sir. Tha' would help me wit' Clurie."
Speaking of which, he glanced over to his little brother, who was enjoying a particularly entertaining corner of paper. He had already made ashes out of one entire corner, and he was busily stuffing the collected bits and fluffs of ash into the little satchels attached to his overalls, stuffing them into every pocket he could. It acted as insulation against the cold (or at least, that's what he liked to think. In honesty, he liked the smell and feel of the ash). It was a mindless habit, one that made him smile with the happiness of a small child.
"It tastes like...Like...Like smoke and like heat, like dry and thick at the same time, Clurie said, straining for an accurate description, but his efforts where quickly discarded with a shrug of the shoulders and a grin, "Like that."
Then to her other question, after discussing something with her Grimm, Clurie gave a tilt of his head, forcing his flighty thoughts to gather for one more round of thinking. Before long, he lifted up a victorious finger, "Burn things!" he announced, and then, with another laugh and crackle of paper between his hands, he cooed, "And telling stories."

"Stories?"
Blaithe's full attention was now on her new friend. She had never been told any stories, but the idea of hearing one was enough to excite her. No longer worrying about how burnt paper tasted, or that she'd never eaten, or even her own sheet of paper, she scooted forward, closer to Clurie. She didn't even know where to start. In her short time, she had never heard Jin-Ho mention any particular stories, or even stories to begin with.
"What stories does Clur know? I want a story!"
Curling up into a ball, Blaithe stared at Clurie, her interest growing more and more with each moment.
Jin-Ho chuckled, delighted to see that Chauhn's attitude was, indeed, lifting. He couldn't compare his childhood self to Chauhn, but he could definately relate to the boy. He wanted to reach out and place a hand on his shoulder, but given the reaction last time, he held back. Now that he was able to stay on terms with the kid, he didn't want to mess things up. Instead, he extended a hand out for Chauhn to take.
"Of course you have it in you, Chauhn. Everybody does." Jin-Ho said, his smile offering a sense of security. He waited for the boy to finish before speaking up again. It would definitely be a challenge, but, "Of course I can teach you. Reading and writing won't be too difficult for you to pick up, I'm sure. And everybody is capable of magic." He leaned forward, almost as if he were stretching, before turning his head back to Chauhn.
Jin-Ho remembered growing up, his schooling and teachings. His parents found it important for at least one of their children to learn and become productive. He even remembered that they had once expressed interest in him becoming a teacher. They, to an extent, would be getting their wish right now. Han-Ji, his brother, was to enlist and fight for Panymium, but having only served for five years, had passed from the Plague; and his parents never saw much reason for his twin, Min-Ho, to be schooled.
The thought almost soured his mood.
Reaching toward the pile, Jin-Ho grabbed one of the sheets of paper and pulled out one of his many pens hidden away on his person. Giving one pen to Chauhn, with one of his others he quickly wrote his own name, then the alphabet near the top. He was interested in learning how to spell Chauhn's name, only ever having it spoken, but that would have to wait until the boy could write on his own.
"You can keep this, if you wish. When do you think you would like to begin learning?"
