Raieth was sitting on the roof of the shop going over the replay of the MNU contract she had just received. "Wanted alive, very dangerous, blah, blah, blah."

She sighed and rolled over onto her back and stretched. "Lousy first job, but work is work." She looked down to the door of the shop. "He has to come here for supplies eventually." She sighed and looked at the edge of the roof, "I should double check the cameras." She rolled to her feet and began checking the cameras she had installed all around the roof.

"If he comes anywhere around here, I'll know about it." She hummed a tuneless tune and went over her capture plan in her head.

She would first have to find him. A week of waiting without stirring things up, then a more active questioning/searching phase. Once she found him she'd have to size him up. See how dangerous he really was. After all, if he was all that, why were there any survivors at all? Then she'd have to play things by ear. Hopefully, bag him alive, if not then there was still a reward for his corpse.

She would use the money to buy a house. Her thoughts wandered to the impossible dream of the patter of tiny feet. Why did she have to care for Ayame? It made everything more complicated. Made her wish for things she couldn't have. Suddenly angry with herself, Raieth shook the thoughts from her head, and returned to her new role as invisible gargoyle.

Peace. That's all I want, Wikus thought, his nerves grinding. He didn't ask for this situation, this annoying runt. Things were fine until they got to the shop and Oli forgot what it meant to 'behave'. "Will you please just stop talking?" he asked of his familiar, normal paw on his face. "That's it."

With that, Oli's tentacles fell to silence. It was reluctant, but he knew when enough was enough. Although he was still interested in talking and curious to learn more about the world...but his partner, owner, summoner, whatever had been kind enough to not throw the little Tanuki-yet-not off his shoulder, so there was at least that.

He looked around, knowing everything Wikus did prior to his summon, but wanted to keep his child-like behavior as much as possible. If he saw any cameras, the prawn-like creature would inquire about them even if he knew everything about them to be known(but he didn't know THAT much, of course).

Camera #3 alerted her the presence of her prey. Staying tight to the surface of the roof, she crept closer to get a first hand look at her target. "Looks like fortune is in my favour today."

Quietly she studied her target as he silenced his companion. She was immediately curious about the heat signature he emitted. So unique was it, she was positive she'd be able to pick him out of a crowd by it alone.

Waiting until he entered the building, she scaled headfirst down the front, her braids defying gravity by staying in a position more suited to the ground, and entered into a window normally reserved for the flying noodles. After a quick scan to make sure there was no one in the rafters, she stalked towards her quarry. Locating him quickly, and ready to learn all she could about him. Even the smallest piece of info could make this job easier.

Wikus in his obliviousness directed his attention to the kitchen. There, he snagged a can of cat food. It annoyed and dismayed him to eat something so degrading in his eyes, but he was permanently addicted like the prawn race. He rationalized it with his having avoided the rancid pink stuff for a week with 'real' food.

The little green thing stayed clinging to the shoulder, not asking to have any. However, he did reach for a cupcake box for a package of pastries in the pantry Wikus searched through. His little claws couldn't make it, but it was then handed to him. he clicked out, clinging to the package and his summoner's shoulder as they went back out to the main area to sit.

Raieth watched the pair fastidiously her ears perking at the clicked speech. 'I wonder if I can use the little one as bait.' She slinked down the wall out of sight.

She positioned her self behind the couch and let her tailbraids poke into view. She wiggled then slightly, 'Come here little one. I just want to talk to you.'

van de Merwe rested himself on the couch, missing Rai's braids. As he did that, Oli hopped off of him to the table. Wikus took the moment to shrug the aching shoulder and sighed.

The prawnling tore into his package, the cupcakes quickly disappearing into his tentacles. He looked out of the corner of his eye, noticing...something. They were like rug tassles. But blue? Curious. He edged a little closer.

Raieth watched both heat signatures. When the little one moved a little closer she moved her tail braids like blue worms. 'That's it. Just a little bit closer.' She positioned herself to grab the little one as soon as it came a little bit closer.

Whoa! It moved! Oli flinched back a little, then peered over again, interest peaked. He definately wanted to see what this was in full, and hopped off the table while Wikus was distracted. The little prawn then reached to at least touch the braids, curious and oblivious to the danger.

((Ack, I thought I already responded redface ))

Raieth pounced on him like a striking cobra. Her tail braids restraining him and holding his tentacles tight to his face. She jumped up into the rafters and out the window so fast it would have taken an extremely lucky glance to spot.

Once outside and in a nearby tree she released the braids holding his "mouth".

"I'm going to ask you a few questions. And you are going to answer them. Now, who are you to Wilkus van de Merwe?"

The world went dark. Oli felt smothered, unable to breathe or make a noise. Then he knew he was off the ground...and somewhere else. He tried to move, but was restrained it seemed. A female was talking to him, and making statements leading to...'interrogation'. Yes, this is what it was, from his memories from Wikus with Obsedanjo.

And it was someone unrecognizable, even from the memories he had been given by being Wikus's familiar. So how could she know his name? Fear for his master was more than fear for himself.

Oli knew he had to talk, sadly, but maybe he could twist things to keep this person from getting Wikus? He had to try the truth in case she was one of those people from TV who could detect lies.

Oli said truthfully, not thinking about how unlikely it was that Rai would be able to understand him.

After a little bit, Wikus noticed the oddity of a missing Oli. Even when the little guy was depressed, he hung around(to let his master KNOW that he was in a bad mood and would suffer too). Stuffing some more pink stuff in his mouth, Wikus looked behind the couch. Nothing. Sides had nothing, either. Oli wouldn't go to the bathroom without Wikus; he was a child afterall.

The halfbreed stood up and started looking for his prawnly familiar, feeling oddly alone without the little nuisance. If he's playing a trick, that little runt, he is going to get it.

Raieth listend very closely to the clicks. She had been working on a translation since she first heard them but wan't quite there yet. His pulse and breathing suggested that he was too scared to lie, yet she was pretty sure he answered with a negative answer.

She took a stab in the dark, using the scene outside the shop as reference. "You feel you are not important to him? Nod your head if you agree, shake for no."

Inwardly she sighed at the primitive means she was resorting to. She did miss the days where everyone had computer implants. Made things so much easier.

If he said no, Oli pretty much knew he'd be held at gun point as bait(yay for TV education). He nodded, knowing that it was also quite true. Wikus didn't want his company half...no, most of the time, and the mite was pretty sure that Wikus would finish his cat food before even bothering to look for his familiar. Or he'd better. Don't leave the shop, don't find us...be selfish, don't suddenly care about me. the little prawn thought to himself.

"This is not funny." Wikus said aloud, having looked in every logical and illogical place Oli could be. But was he really ready to look in every nook and cranny?

He cringed. van de Merwe really didn't want to crouch or crawl, fearing that some new mutations would be able to break through his skin and fur then stain his clothing and all around feel uncomfortable.

His eyes drifted to one of the exits. Maybe the prawn-thing had been distracted by something outdoors? Not likely without telling Wikus, but there weren't many other concievable options.

'Even an unliked companion can be useful.' Raieth glanced towards the house. Wilkus' heat signature was moving. She looked back to the little prawn. "Looks like our time is up little one." She reached into her pouches and produced a small dart like object.

"This will let me listen and track where ever you are." She jabbed it into his shoulder. "If you tell him what happened I can not guarantee anyone's safety." She ran headfirst down the tree, Oli still wrapped in her tendrils. She ran to the front of the door and pulled a small shiny stone from her pouches. "This is your excuse for coming outside." She released him from her tail. "Remember, I hear everything." And with that she leapt onto the roof, watching though the cameras to see what he would do.

He squeaked at the jab. Everything else happened quickly, but the sinking feeling felt slow like tar. Oli understood all that he was told. The prawnling stood there, then, with the stone in his hand. His green head turned sharply as the door opened.

"There you are." Wikus pretty much grunted. "I was looking all over for you." Wikus seemed annoyed, disappointed...and relieved. "What do you have there?"

Oli swallowed and just held the stone up at the halfbreed. He could do nothing else.

Raieth grinned, having not missed the note of relief in Wikus's voice. She was pleased that the little prawnling had followed her instructions.

However, she did feel a brief pang of guilt, 'I hope the little one will be alright when I take Wikus away.' The thought of taking Oli with Wikus never even entered her consciousness. It wasn't in the contract after all.

'It's too bad Wikus does not look like he has much money.' She flashed her teeth in an evil grin. 'That would be a delicious double cross.'

She pondered how she would go about pulling that off, to keep her mind occupied while she tracked the pair.
