Carina, Idothea and Msingi had been wandering as usual when they realized how close they were getting to some pride lands. It wasn't terribly hard to recognize, especially when one of them was able to fly and get a good look around from above. The lions were being a little more attentive and relaxing some ways from the border but they were far too interested to just wander away. They found something new, they ought to learn something about it. Having the easiest time moving quickly and the least likely to be perceived as threatening of the bunch, Msingi had the job of investigating.

Once she had spotted the den area she knew she was in the right area to get a look around. It was unfortunate there were no good trees to perch and hide in for eavesdropping.. but she could still perch on some of the rocks and watch. Perhaps nobody would pay her any mind. So she found herself a rock near the dens, away from the water and what she hoped was out of easy reach for any lions.. and she waited and watched quietly.

Valerius had been out and about, stretching his muscles and keeping himself fit. Though times were quiet, that wasn't a reason to get lazy. He worried that something could crop up out of no where, and he wanted to be ready to defend his home, and his family. Of sorts. He felt happy that he had followed his sister here.

With a soft sigh, he was returning to the caves to check on Tahari. She had been doing better, but her grip on her visions was still shaky at best. Hopefully it had been a good day, and she'd be in a good mood.

Hm? He glanced upwards, noticing the striking white wings against the rich yellow-orange on the bird that was lingering around. Strange, he didn't recognize it. He looked up at the bird, wondering what it was up to.

Msingi watched Valerius as he got closer and closer to the dens, not terribly surprised when she had been spotted watching him. She tilted her head at him, indicating that he had her attention. He didn't look unfriendly, he looked rather calm. Indifferent, maybe. And she rather liked the purple on his legs, she decided.

"Good day," she greeted him with a small nod. With no guarantee that he would stick around to chat, she took a small hop down the rock and closer to show her interest.

He blinked, betraying his surprise as he hadn't thought the bird would speak. Not because it couldn't, but because it probably wouldn't. Well, it had a bit of a more feminine voice, but Valerius was no expert on birds.

"Hello," he replied, nodding as well. Seemed like a nice thing to do. He watched her hop, lowering his head a bit and inspecting the bird. Nothing stood out, and he didn't "feel" anything with his Seer powers, so perhaps she was just lingering around. She was just a bird, so why did he worry? Was he already switching to that old grouchy way of thinking?

"Just stopping by?" he asked, groping for a reason as to why she seemed interested in this place.

She stumbled ever so slightly against the rock as she landed her hop, thankfully managing a grip before she tumbled all the way down to the lion's feet. That would have been especially awkward.

"Yes," she answered, smiling as best her beak would allow, "Just passing by and spotted there was a pride, thought I'd see what it's like."

She rearranged herself a bit and offered a small, polite bow, "I'm Msingi!"

He smiled. "Nice to meet you, I'm Valerius." Interesting that a bird was curious about a pride, but perhaps she was one that just liked to know what was going on.

"This is the Refilwe'Oluchi, a pride that is about punishing the ones guilty of crimes against their fellows." Hmm, maybe that wasn't the best way to put it, but he wasn't sure how else to word it. "It'd been quiet, lately, which must be a good sign." The rebuilding of the pride helped with that, perhaps. Knowing that you would have to pay for your crimes might be turning the minds of some.

"Pleased to meet you, Valerius," she returned happily, her head tilting again as he explained the pride she had found.

"How do you find the guilty ones? Surely you wouldn't welcome the wrong-doers into your own ranks if you're trying to punish them," she wondered. He certainly didn't make it sound like they were just strict within the pride.

He nodded. It was a valid question.

"It is held through a judgement of sorts. The Elohim, who are like the judges, hear both sides of the stories, and weigh each one to determine if the accused is guilty of their crimes, or perhaps the victim had been the false accuser. I'm a Malakim, one that goes out to capture the presumed guilty party and brings them here for judgement." His tail twitched as he thought about that. Sometimes it must be easy, but if it was a murderer...that is what made their job risky.

"Oh," she chirped as he explained the process in more detail, it was somehow both alarming and comforting. Someone was here taking care of things but.. they might also come and get you out of seemingly nowhere. Were all the accusers honest?

"Your job sounds dangerous," she said thoughtfully, "I don't imagine many come willingly to judgment, guilty or not."

He shook his head. "No. I follow the orders given, so I put all my trust in our King and the Elohim. I'm certain that they would only be firm about bringing someone back if it was serious enough." Nothing was perfect, and no one could See the truth, always. It was a risky idea, but comforting to the lands around them.

"We haven't had much to do lately. I hope it isn't the calm before the storm." His biggest worry.

"What is your motivation for interfering?" she asked curiously, "You take on quite the task trying to keep things just and peaceful for the general world outside yourselves. It's more generous than some prides we've passed by, I must say."

Msingi had some idea of what the answer might be, she learned quite a bit traveling- especially with two curious and smart lionesses like Carina and Idothea. She still would have liked to hear the details. She was very interested, if only because she knew the girls would like it.

Valerius shrugged his shoulders. "It is what we are here for, what keeps us together as a pride. Some prides don't have a purpose, only a safe place to live. We have that, but something that drives us. It keeps us together, too." It wasn't only a place to live. Not really.

"Besides, I'd get a little fat if I didn't have anything to do," he smirked. One reason why he kept himself exercising. "We react to the victim. We don't go out looking to create trouble." Which...it could look that way.

Hm, it was a slightly disappointing answer but one of the reasonable expectations. Keeping busy was something. She looked him up and down when he commented how he would be fat if he didn't have something to do, grinning. It was true he did not appear quite so large as some pride lions ended up.

"That is all very interesting, Valerius," she said, looking back up to his eyes, "And now you'll have another who knows what you all do, hopefully having a reputation for this acts as a warning and not a challenge."

Some creatures, really.

Valerius shrugged. "I serve Justice, as she is my mother. I fulfill this need here greatest, and here is where I shall stay. I am certain some gatherings, or prides, may not like us, but it is hard to please everyone." He shrugged, amazed that a little bird was challenging him, or the pride as a whole. They had never worried about the smaller species living around these lands, but perhaps they could sort their differences and conflicts themselves. She did say that she was passing through.

"A warning or challenge otherwise, word that spreads may bring the more curious to see us," he nodded.

Msingi perked up as soon as Valerius said Justice was his mother, knowing exactly what he meant immediately and looking very interested. It made sense for him, then, to have the drive to participate in such law enforcement. And all of this made it a more exciting tale to tell Carina and Idothea.

"Mhmm!"

Perhaps the idea of punishing the wrong-doers they found potentially causing some trouble as well as helping did not bother them. Depending on how effective they were, the good would certainly outweigh the bad.. and Msingi felt old biases leading her to believe with a son of Justice they must certainly be effective.

"Thank you for putting up with the questions of a curious passer-by, I won't keep you any longer," she said, fluffing herself up and preparing to go off and find her girls, "You looked busy before I caught your attention."
