The beach party. It had been a lot of fun in retrospect. Though she had been a little scared when showing up, she had met her friends. Pasha had been there. Zul had been there. And she had won Calcifer here. Scratching the belly of her Catopuss, she smiled as he splayed himself out on her soft comforter. He was a loving chimera so far. He loved having his soft fur pet and his gentle tentacles would wrap around her arm and head as she floated around. He needed to chill in the bath a little each day, but other than that, he liked going around with her.
She had just finished straightening up her room – Zul had never seen it occupied before. With her laptop on the desk next to her sewing machine and the stuffed penguin sitting on her bed where she snuggled with it nightly, Lucia figured the place was put together enough.
She was waiting for the Baphomet to arrive. Zul had to leave so quickly from the beach party, that she missed him even more than before. So she called him. She wanted to see him. And he promised to make time for her. Whale watching wouldn’t really work for this time of night, but that could be next. The frei held out an arm. She pushed her loose wavy hair off of her shoulder and giggled as Calcifer pawed and gripped his way up her arm. The typical makeup on her face smudged slightly as he licked the corner of her eye. ”CAL!” she cried out with a smile. Instead of looking in the mirror and fixing it, she gently wiped her eye, blending the makeup together and she went out through the open doors onto the balcony. Ty's room was dark, as he went to a bar or something with Yuurei.
Her violet eyes almost glowed as they reflected the moonlight. And Lucia waited for the first sight of Zul’s glowing horn. Gently stroking a fuzzy tentacle, the Kitten watched and waited. From when she talked to Vyn before, she had a few questions for Zul – about the night he saved her. Sighing, she realized she didn’t want to talk about anything that had happened. She was finally moving on a bit. She had avoided spirits, kept herself from going to the spirit world. She was doing better.
But she wanted to know how he had gotten rid of Brian. As much as she didn’t want to go back, she was keeping herself from talking to spirits, she knew in the past she had had no control over whether or not she was possessed. She didn’t like that. She wanted to know how he got rid of Brian. So if it ever happened again, she could do the same.

He'd just gotten off of work with Neil and made a quick stop at another shop, the smell of kiln and smoke still clinging to him as he flew through the onset of night sky. Zul didn't generally fly much since he'd been staying with Brad, but Lucia didn't live that far from Durem and he welcomed the opportunity to stretch his wings. The demon relished the tendrils of night that pulled through his light hair, washing over a plastic-wrap bundle he held carefully against his chest.
Life had been extraordinarily hectic for him in the past month, and to receive the invitation to visit the Kitten had been entirely welcome and appreciated. He was still suffering small bouts of what he could only describe as 'heart pain' from separating with Jezebelle and Rivener, but it was out of his hands in both instances. Now was the time to just...be himself, like Lucia had said. To have fun. Zul couldn't remember the last time he genuinely just had fun for the sake of it, though to be fair, the aquarium visit seemed like years ago. Since then it had been too much in bulk - the virus Raevan, Eiry, the Delaran house and the flood, Rivener lying, Lucia's pain and recovery. The demon had to remember just to breathe anymore.
He spotted the house some ways off, closing in on the lonesome abode and giving a strong flex of his bone-clad wings to slow and eventually stop himself, gliding to the ground. Zul shook out his wind-swept hair and continued to float towards the house, the lights a beacon just as much as his central horn was for the Kitten that was seeking him. His bright blue eyes turned downwards to the item in his grasp, peeling back the clear wrap; it was a bouquet of flowers of all types, from dark, rich purple calla lilies to lighter purples in iris and lilac, though they were more a frame for the white roses that dotted the arrangement. There was a single dark, velvet red rose in it all, something that had stricken him as poignant enough that he allowed the human meaning to stand for it - unconscious beauty.
The demon tilted his head back as the ground between him and the house minimized, a smile already beginning to curve his lips. "Lucia," he called out as he approached the porch, his tone light-hearted and almost sing-song. He'd knock, of course, but he was pleased to be there at all. Might as well make it heard!

The cat's eyes lit up, glowing subtly in the night as they reflected the light. On her balcony her eyes couldn't really be differentiated from the light of the room behind her. But his light showed out so she could spy him coming from a ways away. A smile lit up her face and she decided she wanted to see his smile. On the beach he needed a laugh. If that was still the case, and she could accomplish it, she was up to the task.
Quickly a plan formulated in her mind. She floated up to the roof on the opposite side of where he was approaching and waited, shushing Calcifer quietly. The frei was silent as Zul floated down to her porch. And he called out her name. The smile on her face grew broader.
He seemed happy. It should be easy to make him smile then. The kitten noiselessly floated down from the roof with Calcifer clinging to her back and shoulder. She was soundless as she slowly crept up behind him. While he thought he was waiting on the porch, she was completely silent as she stopped behind him and -
Without a word she slipped her arms around him. One arm glided over his shoulder and one under the other arm in a warm hug and her body settled between his extended wings. Her lips moved closer to his sharply angled ear. "Zu-ul!" she replied in her own sing-songey voice, but a soft whisper.
Even the catopuss joined in on the hug, his tentacles sliding around the frei that his owner obviously enjoyed. Calicifer slipped his tentacles around Zul's neck in a traditional hug, but pressed his large forehead deftly against the Baphomet's lips. 'Love me too,' was clearly his statement.
The kitten inhaled her friend's smoky smell and was surprised at how great it was. So unlike the acrid smell that poured up from the basement when Yuu was 'working.' She giggled softly at Cal's behavior, resting her chin against Zul's shoulder and resting her head gently against his. "He wants you to kiss his forehead. If you don't he'll never move his head." Only then did she release the baphomet and allow him to turn around.

One moment he was on porch, preparing to lift his knuckles to knock on the door, and the next he found himself wrapped up in more than one pair of arms. The demon blinked and recoiled just a bit, not exactly frightened as one should be, but rather surprised in his own understated way. His arms lifted, his free hand resting against the familiar lace-clad arm; once the voice purred against his ear, Zul relaxed with a warm smile, his hand sliding over Lucia's and giving it a gentle squeeze. "Lucia," he replied in his smoky voice, though the last part was abruptly cut off by the owner of the tentacles.
Tilting his tri-horned head with slightly wide eyes, he listened to Lucia's words, taking a few minutes to register what was being pressed against his mouth. The smell was vaguely reminiscent of something at the beach, triggering his memory of his woman and the Chimeras. So Lucia had won one - the cat-thing, by the look of the ears. "I see," he murmured against the slick fur, turning to face the female Frei as she released him. "A moment, octokitten." Zul lifted a hand to lightly press between the ears against the bulbous head, leaning into the Kitten herself and giving her a friendly kiss on the cheek, pressing the bouquet of flowers into her hands. Only then did he lift his now freed hands to wrap around the Chimera, kissing the furry creature's brow. "Nice to meet you too," he told the aquatic feline with amusement.
Turning his blue eyes to Lucia with a bemused smile, the rest of his posture relaxed and at ease, he idly slipped his hand over one of the dark tentacles as he spoke to her. "How are you, Lucia? You look as lovely as ever."

Violet eyes gleefully watched Zul trying to make Cal wait for his kiss. Waiting?! Unheard of. Though Zul's hand was pushing against the creature's gentle head, the tentacles gripping his neck tightened, slipping between the spikes decorating his gorget and pulling his body in. Two of his tentacles were latched onto the Baphomet's shoulders, and the other four were busy trying to clawlessly propel his body closer to the demon's face. His feet slid down the demon's short torso as he tried to push his way closer.
Mirth at the situation - Calcifer did not like to wait for his attention Lucia had learned well - decorated the feline's face as she accepted Zul's kiss. The flowers, however, were a surprise. And her delight at the gift was visible on her entire body. Her breath released from her body in awe at the beautiful purple flowers. Her fingers moved to touch the soft petals of the white roses and her rune glowed slightly brighter with her excitement. And then her eyes rested on the single gorgeous red rose. Lowering her face to the bouquet she inhaled the sweet odor and her entire body relaxed. Beautiful. Her eyes raised to Zul's face and had she been feeling silly she would have spun in a circle, her arms out wide.
She watched him kiss Calcifer's massive head and as he turned to look at her, there it was. The smile. Kissing his cheek affectionately, she purred, "Thank you for the flowers." Satiated, Calcifer decided he liked the warmth of Zul's body, so he climbed up further, perched on his shoulder, and slid his tentacles around the neck, shoulder, and upper arm of his current heat machine and transportation. He would not be moved again.
"I'm doing good! That's Calcifer. He's crazy. How are you?" Waiting for a response, her own smile brightened her features as she reached out for the front door latch. "Let me put these in water." Opening the door, she led Zul inside, grabbing a dark grey blown glass vase on the way to the kitchen.
Rinsing out the vase, she filled it with warm water and placed it on the counter. If nothing else, Yuurei had taught her how to take care of flowers so they lasted forever. Grabbing a pinch of powder from a jar behind the sink, the frei flicked it into the water. She opened up the plastic of the flowers, and added the included food. Then in one fluid movement, she grabbed the kitchen scissors and deftly cut off the bottom of the flower stems at an angle, allowing the still-living part of the stems to be exposed to the food, water, and magick.
Arranging them in the vase was even easier, as she showcased the red rose among the white roses and purple variety of flowers. "Good?" She blinked looking at her accomplishment. Maybe not as good as Yuu could do, but not bad. Her eyes turned to her friend for approval.

"I was intent on making you smile one way or another," the demon replied to Lucia's purred gratitude. "I'm glad it worked." Zul grinned a little, glancing to the Chimera perched on his shoulder with a look of amusement, lifting the hand not holding the tentacle to scratch next to a dark ear. "Calcifer the Crazy. He's cute, and using me as a chariot." The words were said in a more laughing manner than anything, content to let the Chimera stay put. It was no hindrance to him and it had been over a year since he'd had such a companion.
Returning to the question, he followed the Kitten, "I'm okay." There were no pretty words to ease the blow he'd been dealt in the past month, satisfied to let it rest with the simplest words he knew. He was okay. The most exciting thing in his life was his boss. It was good enough. Zul watched Lucia treat the flowers with precision and care, curiosity in his eyes though he continued to fill the silence between motions. "Work is picking up, so my boss is looking into expanding into a larger building in Gambino. I'm living with Bear - Alix's brother - though that's about to change..." He trailed off there, though the tone of his voice suggested the change would either not happen, or would not without staunch resistance on his end. The last thing he wanted to do after all he'd been through was get thrown back in to that cesspool of ill feelings and empty conversations.
Determined to brush that aside, he inspected the flowers with interest and nodded his approval. "I didn't know you were so good with them," he commented softly. "It's good to know." Zul couldn't help but look at the roses with a sense of loss and enlightenment in one go; they used to stand for so much to him, and now...they meant no less, but he was not so stingy as to not share them with those he held dear.
"So then!" He turned his full smile onto Lucia, patting the tentacles around his neck. "What shall we do on this delightful evening?"

Lucia pursed her lips in amusement. That had been her goal too. But she wouldn't tell him that. They already been silly in buying each other the same Christmas gifts. What would happen if he knew that they both had the same goal in seeing one another? She couldn't allow that. But making if making him happy involved her smiling, all he needed to do was come around more often.
The Kitten listened to the silence surrounding Zul's "okay." There was more than being 'okay' to being "okay." That much she knew from her many shrugged 'okay's. But she wouldn't push it. If Zul wanted to tell her what was going on he would. If not, she'd be there for him. To make him smile at least.
Lucia smiled at the chat. Work - that's right he worked for that guy. She didn't remember his name. But that, the Kitten knew, was why he smelled that way. "That's good then! You should be able to get as much work as you want then, if he's expanding." And the news that he was living with his guardian's brother. And he didn't want to do otherwise. "Where's Bear live?" she asked, approaching the topic cautiously. "I get not wanting to leave some place." She didn't want to fill in too many blanks for him. But maybe she could help. "Like the beach house. And you. I didn't want to leave." She smiled a sweet smile.
Giggling at the praise, she shrugged. "I'm okay." Again signs of sadness crossed Zul's face before they faded into a smile as he faced her. Instead of asking about the look, she quickly continued. "Let's bring this up to my room. Then maybe I can show you some place special?"
Taking the vase in one hand and his hand in her other, the frei led the way, back to the entryway to the stairs to the right of the front door. Floating up, she indicated to the first door - "That's Ty's room." - and led him to the second. Pushing open the door, Lucia released Zul's hand and floated inside her room.
The place was painted and decorated mostly as it had been when she first did it. The floor was a dark almost black wood. There was nothing on it. The walls were a soft purple, lighter than the color of her eyes, but still brightening the room. The ceiling, however, was painted to look like the night sky. Even during the day, she had her own slice of night. The metal frame plush bed took up most of the space and had a wrought-iron headboard that spun and curled in swirls. The bedding was a shiny white satin. The most cool comfortable place to rest. There was no visible dresser cluttering the floor space. Just the built-in desk with her closed laptop, sewing machine, and a plush cat, built-in shelves with books and an egyptian cat statue, and built-in drawers, hiding the plethora of clothing. On her bed was the penguin Zul had given her. And on the wall was a large mirror. Everything was clean, but the satin comforter had the imprint of a half torso, a circle with splayed out indents, and even a ball with what seemed like too many foot prints leading away from it.
Moving a few things around, Lucia placed the flowers on the shelf above her desk. But they weren't showcased enough there. So she pushed her computer back a bit and placed them on the desk's surface. Smile decorating her face, she turned around to face Zul. Calcifer was sliding slowly down his body, playing fireman on his ribbon as he slipped down it like it was a pole and landed gracefully on four legs on the floor. Pawing his way over, Cal gripped the covers with one side and climbed up the headboard with the other. Once he was even with the bed, Cal climbed onto a pillow and settled, on his side, his tentacles splayed out.
She glanced at him, watching him settle in for a nap. And then she turned to look at Zul. "Since he's all set, can I take you somewhere special?" He had seen a few of her special places - Nana Lucia's grave, the park - but this one was, well, a little different.

The demon dipped his head in agreement at the reply to the gaffer's work; Zul wondered if he'd still be humored to help Neil out once the man's business contained so many people, but he'd deal with that as it came out of respect for the red-head that was looking out for him. "Bear - he's a mess." Zul laughed under his breath. "He lives in Aekea right now. He wants to move to Gambino but he's looking to find a place in Durem to be closer to his boyfriend." Though Zul was at odds with the notion of doing something as silly as choosing dingy Durem over gorgeous Gambino, he understood the large man's want of being near Zeke. Hell, he liked Zeke and was half hoping he could stay with Brad long enough to see it work out for them. "Riv's place flooded, so I wont have to go back anytime soon. Alix is in Durem with my boss. We're all scattered." He had no home to speak of, but he found himself oddly satisfied with how things were working out.
Zul nodded again at the spoken words. "I didn't want to leave the beach house either. I miss your company." After finding amusement in watching Alex and Brad fight with each other - even seeing Rivener and Eiry, Aphismet and Isikoro...it was hard to be alone again. Lucia and he weren't exactly sibling material with all that had transpired, but she was the closest thing he'd had to a best friend.
Some place special? A dark brow lifted over a sky-blue eye, a smile worn beneath. "I'd like that," he replied with intrigue, following Lucia through the house and taking a moment to look around. It was very nicely decorated and made him think of something antique fused with modern and fashionable. Zul glanced towards the indicated room with minimal interest, not knowing much about Ty other than he took care of the Kitten. Lucia's room garnered more interest, rather liking the dark floor and the contrast of the walls - much like the Kitten's hair against her pale skin.
As the Chimera played fireman down his ribbon, he was only mindful while it was near his rune before allowing it the freedom to get down, tilting his tri-horned head back to look at the ceiling - and finding himself very impressed, if not somewhat winded. The very sky that Rivener fed off of, immortalized on her ceiling. Zul exhaled quietly, still learning to accept that there would be pieces of the Sigel in his life that would not be shaken, lowering his gaze as Lucia placed the flowers. It was odd to him, the notion of needing a room - since he did not need nor have one of his own, despite his woman's attempts - though he found it complimented Lucia nicely. Stuffed penguin and all.
Turning his eyes from the bed when Lucia spoke again, he couldn't help but grin, spreading his arms. "Wherever you please, Lucia. I'm here to spend time with you." Drawing up next to the female Frei, he offered his arm to her in a playfully gentlemanly motion, all contentment and curiosity.

Lucia had smiled at his similar confession of missing her. "Well then we'll just have to make time to visit each other more. And, if you ever did need a place to stay, you can just show up here." After being shown so much hospitality, the least she could do was help Zul out when he needed it. And she wouldn't mind his company in the least.
Upstairs, the frei smiled, noting his quiet appraisal of her space. Slipping her hand into the crook of Zul's elbow, Lucia wondered if she should jump right to the spot she wanted him to see, or if she should do a mini tour.
"I need to eat - if you don't mind. But that's kinda the place I wanted to show you." Leading him out of her room and downstairs, she went through the massive great room and through one of the rear sliders. "I can show you the library and my outside space later." The prospect of showing Zul her favorite places was a little exciting. On the back deck she took him down the stairs, over the lawn and to a small path leading into the woods. "It's not really dense, in here, but it will hide the house." Floating along the path Lucia looked for the familiar clearing.
"Here it is." They had arrived. A few minutes into the woods and there it was: the pet cemetery. The Soto family had had quite an array of pets. It wasn't surprising, knowing the witch tendency to keep animals, and the fact that Yuurei's sister wanted to be a vet when she was a kid. But the twenty-six headstones were all clear of debris with flowers laid by a few of the names Lucia had likes. She knew all of the former pet's names by heart. Her hand slipped away from Zul's arm as she floated over to the stone with the largest grouping of flowers. It seemed to be the best taken care of. Floating downward, Lucia stopped right in front of it, her fingers traced the carved letters. The frei's eyes moved from the stone to Zul. "Do you know where your soul's body is? Mine is right here." Smiling sadly, she looked at Zul. "Zul, this is Omen. Omen," she directed towards the stone, "Zul."
She wasn't crazy. It was just how she knew death to be. But Omen, she knew, wasn't resting in peace. He was in her. He was her. Or she was him. From her own perspective, the whole raevan creating process seemed unnatural.

"Thank you," he replied to her offer, and left it at that. Zul was content to be lead through the spacious house (almost too spacious, he thought), his crystalline eyes turning around the large rooms and decor as they passed. "I don't mind." Zul glanced to the female companion on his arm, lifting his free hand to pat hers. "Eat as you must. We can look at all that when you're taken care of."
As they exited the house and approached the forest, the demon had the worst sense of deja vu: chasing a dark form through threaded trees with only rage and searing hatred in his heart. It was hard to believe the events that followed that fateful night, that it had lead to the moment now outside of Lucia's house and floating through the dense foliage. Zul glanced down when Lucia said they had arrived, surprised to find...headstones? It was a graveyard? When the Kitten slipped away, he ventured to peer closer at the tombstones, discovering the names and realizing that it wasn't just a graveyard, but a pet cemetery!
The question startled Zul, turning his light eyes towards her with confusion. The body of his soul? Knowing only that he was a 'demon' of some sort - the stares, the whispers, and the five day excursion in that hellish human settlement had told him as much - but he didn't really know much about what that meant. Rather than answer, he looked at the indicated stone and floated as low as he could, resting his hand against the cool epitaph. "Hello, Omen," he greeted the grave in his smoky tone, smiling at it with a feeling of meeting up with an old friend. "That's a good name - Omen. I like it."
Zul glanced up to Lucia to make sure she was really okay with this - she looked a touch sad and to meet the past incarnation of what was seemed extremely personal. Even so, he lightly touched the flowers that decorated the grave, bowing his head with gratitude, the light of his horn dancing over that grave specifically. His dear friend was made of the very breath that once inhabited this 'Omen'; the least he could do was show some respect.

"I really don't want to talk about it again," she said, looking at where Zul's familiar hand rested against the flowers. She wasn't talking about Omen. It was something else that had been on her mind for a while now.
"But. Can you tell me what happened that night you killed Brian?" Her eyes gazed up at her friend's face, a little look of pleading in them. "I-I don't know if I'll ever get possessed again. But if I do, I need to know how to get rid of him."
Her eyes looked up to his horn and then back to the way it softly lit his face. "I don't really remember what happened that night."
Lucia settled her body to basically 'sit' on the ground. She needed to know what to do. She wanted to know the way to get rid of possessors. Because if she couldn't..Lucia didn't want to think about what might happen.

Zul looked up at Lucia as she spoke, tilting his head in mild confusion. Talk about what again, exactly? But she quickly embellished on the topic, prompting understanding to light his eyes. Withdrawing his hand and settling them in his 'lap,' he looked at the Kitten with a quiet sort of attention, thinking. He remembered it all, and vividly; if he thought about it enough, he could still taste his own blood in his mouth when the possessed Kitten had struck out at him and dislocated his jaw. On the edges of his vision, he could feel that blackness wanting to crawl back into his eyes, but he wouldn't allow it; now was not the time.
Breathing in of the aged dirt and night air, the demon thought how best to express what happened. He'd seen it first hand with Jezebelle, and look where that got him. Zul brushed the dark-skinned woman from his mind; she was gone, and had nothing to do with what was happening now. "To the best of my knowledge," he started to speak, slow and calculating, "it was a sort of...possession with my power."
He let the words sink in before he continued. "I think...when there's something in someone that shouldn't be, part of me becomes a wedge between the person and that which should not be." Distant blue eyes could still see the pain on his ex-tutor's face as he forced the liquid out of her body. "Bear said it sounded like a sort of semi-possession, but that's all I know. I haven't exactly gotten any practice in." Zul smiled, a small expression to try and take the edge off of the seriousness.
"For a moment that night, I possessed you, Lucia. I remember seeing you and feeling the darkness around me - seeing myself. I was able to grab a hold and get you back to yourself." The demon was mindful not to use that name, allowing his words to mean simply what they meant without rehashing the whole experience for her again. Zul wasn't sure it was the answer she was looking for, but he hoped it shed a little light on the situation for her. It was still something he hadn't wholly grasped himself, not yet.

Cautiously, Lucia reached her fingers slowly out to rest them gently on the top of Zul's hand. What had happened to her friend? This wasn't the same air he had had when discussing these past events before. She didn't know what to make of the difference in him. She'd seen him angry. She'd seen him pensive. She'd seen him frustrated. But Zul had been her rock, and seeing him upset now was a little startling.
But with his words, a glimmer of memory came through. The oppressive tightness of her spirit in her body as she was pushed down and away, not just by one person, but by two. His reassurances. They weren't spoken from his body, but placed in her head.
And he smiled, but it seemed forced. The information wasn't anything that helped her figure out how to save herself if she was ever possessed again. But she recalled now vaguely what had happened. And if he could grab ahold while inside her, maybe she could do the same from within herself.
She had the feeling that now wasn't the time to ask Zul to possess her so she could practice pushing him out.
"How do you possess someone? Is it even something you can control? Or does your body or mind know there's something unnatural. And it just happens so you can right it."

The touch of her fingers against his gloved hand was appreciated, feeling the gentle weight through the fabric. She was trying to reassure him...even when the difficulty was on her, she was still looking out for others. For one perfect moment, Zul wondered why Rivener had picked him over her, but again, brushed the image of the Sigel aside; the jumbled emotions he had from thinking of the Scorpion and Jezebelle were not welcome in this peaceful place with his friend. The demon smiled at Lucia, a gentle and grateful expression that reached his eyes. She was good to him in a way that was foreign but warm.
"Ah, it..." Zul hesitated. He didn't like to come off as some sort of monster, but the more it came up in his thoughts, the more he was coming to accept that he was some kind of monster. "It's a conscious effort on my part. A desire. To use everything in me to do what I must, whatever it may be." His eyes pinched around the edges, his gaze slightly unfocused. "From there, it happens when my eyes bleed and I let go of my sense of self...trying to get to the other person. The intensity of it varies against what I'm trying to expel. As you can see..." He lifted the hand Lucia was holding, twining their fingers. "Touching doesn't make it happen."
Zul found his focus, looking at the femme's lilac eyes. "I bring out what I am, and I just know. It's about control."
