A good layout (not just profiles, but website and so forth too) Usability? Design? Color? Graphics? Effort? Originality? Information?
What do you think? Personally I think that graphics mashed in with some good design makes a layout. *shrugs* Also I'm curious to see what you guys think.

I generally go for Originality as well as the Design.
Those are the things that really catch my attention and my memory. Basically, if I would remember it even after months, the better I would rate it. 3nodding

Originality definitely, colors that match each other, too, and usability. A layout serves no purpose if it just looks pretty (unless that specifically is its purpose). It's a bad layout if people can't use it, in my opinion.

I would just say Effort. Also long as you tried your hardest to make the best profile with your abilities then that's all that really matters.

Just an opinion:
1. Something or anything that is unique and would never be the same at any other website, otherwise what you have is just the same as everyone elses. Must stand out and be memorable. Can be anything such as a scrollbar in a weird place or a very stand-out image/logo.
2. New people and regulars must be able to do what they want in one or two clicks. But more importantly you must have everything laid out so that people will use it the way you want them to. For example, user-contributed reviews are the main part of one site I visit; but it is a very tedious process to get to the review writing screen so no one does it and the site dies.
3. Less is more, go simplicity! Just as long as it's not a flood of boring text with no spacing.
4. The actual content must be worthwhile q=P

Content IS quite important. I don't quite know what to do with my "About" page currently...I'm thinking of doing Gaia editorials...but not enough people read it so...ehh...maybe I ought to make a thread on that.

Personally, I love any website that isn't graphic-heavy, has very simple and easy to use menus, doesn't have flash and music and blinking lights all over. I like websites that are very simple and sound.
Fancy is great and all, I just hate having to download programs or waiting half an hour just so that I can see someone's website.

PrincessNeko Yeah...I can just imagine what those YouTube things do to slower users evil I know! I don't mind the ones that just quietly load in the background, patiently and politely waiting for the viewer to press "play." But the bold ones, the pushy ones that just start playing without being asked... GRRR! Always messes up my own music! I hate it so much sad

I'd have to say creativity. No one wants to see the same things over and over. you really have to love what you do when designing it. Yes it has to be functional but also you need to put your own personal touches to it. You can't be afraid to think out of the box and be original just don't get too carried away with it. I also thing that the more inviting and use friendly it is the more other people will like it.
