As written in the general info thread
Fear IS WHAT HALLOWEEN IS MADE UP. It's as simple as that. That means your entire creature is MADE up of Fear. It's matter, its blood, its the Force, it is everything.
Now how does fear apply to your character in terms of abilities?
Fear as a skill ability:
Don't think of it as 'I can only use my Fear when I'm using my skills'. It is DEFINITELY more like 'How can reach this Fear to turn it into a skill? How can I manipulate it in my own way?
Let's pretend that everyone has a blank piece of paper (Fear). It is less about HAVING that piece of paper and more as what can you DO with it? Will you fold it like origami? Will you watercolour the paper or rip it to pieces? It is unique to you and your student.
Basic use of fear: THINK OF IT AS A ****ING RPG ATTACK - The ability to use their Fear to elongate their claws, slashing outwards in a wide radius (physical) - The ability to use their Fear to create a small ice storm, freezing the opponent in place (magical) - The ability to create temporary changes to one's self or surroundings
Bad use of fear: - CAN MAKE PEOPLE DO STUFF WITH ILLUSIONS (note: this one is too vague, the use of illusions is fine but HOW) - CAN CONTROL MINDS - CAN TURN INTO GODZILLA - Anything that GMs another character - Anything with drastic long term or permanent IC-consequences such as creating a nuclear explosion, summoning Cluthulu, or by changing the date to November 1st. Permanently.
Fear in Battle:
During battle, a lot of creatures might have a stronger, meaner looking Battle Form. For example, werewolves might turn into their full lupine form. Due to battle purposes, your Fear will be limited to ONE ABILITY ONLY. It must be somewhat tangible and understandible. It must be moderated in different levels of weaknesses.
As a first year, you may only use your FEAR ability ONCE per battle. Second years, third years, and professors may use their abilities more than once, and for longer.
Examples from Current Students:
Figg - Ghost (played by Mouse Pachinkorelli): Figg's a noncorporeal shapeshifter: he and his kind can spread out and sculpt their ectoplasm to change their shape, create eerie mirages and even transform the atmosphere and appearance of an entire room. He can currently use his power to manifest a toothy, thorny, carnivorous vine-plant that can trip, bite or temporarily ensnare an opponent -- however, the energy and concentration it takes means it loses tangibility and disperses after a short while.
Pachua - Quetzalcoatl/Feathered Serpent (played by endejester): Pachua directs his fear skills into an eery tense aura that when combined with a sudden strike like movement on his part, or a hiss - he is able to create a strong jolt of fear - feelings that something very large and scaly is about to eat you or bite you would be the most desirable effect but he'd settle with creating the feeling that Prof Shox is behind you demanding you attend extra lesson time.
WITH YOUR FEAR, PLEASE INCLUDE A BASIC WEAKNESS
If you have an ability like CAN CREATE ILLUSIONS we need to know its weaknesses. Does it tire your student? Do all their illusions look like they were made in crayon and leaves a waxy aftertaste in their mouth? Keep your FEAR abilities in moderation, otherwise some people might not want to RP with you!
YOU WILL LEARN NEW WAYS TO USE YOUR FEAR :
If you're student is trying to enroll in school, and they are total badasses with awesome skills who totally kick a** in amazing ways: you're doing it wrong.
That is what classes are for. WE TRAIN THE FORCE IN YOUR YOUNG PADAWAN

The two types of skills explained: xxxxx• Natural Ability: These abilities are things only members of a certain subspecies (or class in the case of Reapers) can do. All subspecies have ONE natural ability. This ability is THE main defining ability of the specie. xxxxxxxxxx When sparring, Natural Abilities neither add or decrease damage. When used in a battle, they are simply there for additional RP flavor text; ie a miss could be explained as Soandso flying out of the way, a small amount of damage could be done with the blunt edge of a reaper's stave, etcetc. xxxxx• FEAR Ability: FEAR IS A BATTLE ABILITY. This sort of ability can only be done by one person and one person alone; these are the things that make the character unique. In other news, FEAR abilities are superpowers: while there may be others like it, this one is your's. Fear ability is like a pokemon attack. It can add +damage, it can be defensive (dodge/hit/miss/-damage), it can be a bleed or DoT, or a AoE. PLEASE think of it like pokemon card in terms of simplicity!!!
xxxxxxxxxx When sparring, FEAR abilities either add or decrease damage, or provide other beneficial effects. These abilities ARE the difference between victory and defeat. Skills in Action - Student Example:
lizbot AMITYVILLE ACADEMY ENROLMENT FORM Name: Emily Device Gender: female Age: 15 Faction/Race: Reaper; Subclass - Witch Fear: Through FEAR, Emily is able to use Mr. Monty as a weapon. Currently, she can change him into a cannon that fires off a large, wet hairball with many alarming visual aspects (it's just gross) at her opponent. >: But sometimes he just pukes on her instead. Remember, this is a school. If you aren't happy with how your FEAR works, you can change it via RP! Take Emily's FEAR for instance: she uses her familiar, Mr. Monty, as a weapon. Currently, she uses him as a canon. This can go NUMEROUS ways: xxxxx• Hairball Hex: By applying what she learns in Hex classes, the hairballs Emily fires could have an additional effect. xxxxx• Dander Bomb: Emily could decide to throw Mr. Monty, and upon impact her opponent could be covered with cathair. And maybe even some fleas. xxxxx• Long Cat is Looooong: FEAR could also enable Emily to stretch Mr. Monty into a whip complete with a kittyface and claws at the other end. xxxxx• Cat Trip: Emily could send Mr. Monty out to trip her opponent. And pin him there for several turns. xxxxx• MEOW MEOW MEOOOOOOW. Meet Mr. Monty. Mr. Monty is hungry. You have hands. You must have a treat, yes? Even if you don't, Mr. Monty will be more than happy to use your leg like a ladder and climb up in order to investigate your pockets. Just watch out for his claws.
Etc, etc. As you attend school, your FEAR can evolve and change into numerous things! You don't need to list out the possibilities -- in fact, it's encouraged to just think of what to start out with.
After all, your FEAR isn't permanent. You just might learn some completely new tricks and abilities while in a class!

FEAR FAQ
► What happens if two people pick FEAR abilities that are alike? Does the first person who is approved gets it? ● FEAR is a very versatile, continuously shifting sort of element. That means if someone's FEAR is to, let's say SHOOT LASERS FROM THEIR EYES USING THEIR FEAR, it doesn't at all prevent another character to have some sort of laser-based attack. As long as it isn't word for word, first come first serve should not be an issue at all!
► Can you give me as much information about FEAR as you can? Such as what it is besides just 'a power' and if natural abilities according to monster legend counts as it or just a side thing, and if its only one per Creature? ETC. ● Think of FEAR as a superpower. It's basically the "reason" behind what your character can do.
You want an undead skeleton student who has weirdly accurate aim when he throws his own bones? FEAR lets you do that.
You want a demon student who's so rich she has an unholy car that she can summon with her car keys? FEAR lets you do that.
You want a monster student who can bust through walls in a more stylish fashion than the Kool-Aid man? FEAR lets you do that.
You want a ghost student who can possess permanent markers and use them to write insulting messages and start rumor mills? FEAR lets you do that.
You want a reaper student whose scythe doubles as a flute and can use it to summon a dragon? Negotiable, but FEAR can let you do that!
Your student's FEAR can be ANYTHING YOU WANT. You can make it relate to their folklore, or make it relate to them, or make it as non-sequitur as you like!
● WTF IS FEAR THOUGH?! Is it like a phobia? ► FEAR is NOT a character phobia! FEAR in this shop is your character's super power for lack of a better word. Go reread the first post! D<
● Does my character have to know about his fear before the school year? Or can he not know it at the start of the year, and then slowly learn it? ► Your student NEEDS to have one ability, even if it's as lame as being able to throw rocks with decent accuracy. Everyone in Halloweentown has an ability and uses it on a nearly regular day-to-day basis (baring the extreme FEAR powers rofl). NOT knowing your FEAR is pretty much impossible. MASTERING your FEAR prior to the school year is also impossible, as the school is a place to learn and adapt your FEAR to its best potential.
● Ghosts aren't actually physical (I assume they could go through walls and use their powers to move things), it would be hard for a monster with a physical Fear to harm them, correct? Say that Monster A causes Fear by making them feel creeped out by their slimy tentacles. If they were in a fight with a ghost, they would be at a great disadvantage. Monster A would therefor have to somehow jump out and use his physical appearance of being scary in a battle instead of his other tactic relying on sensation. ► Everything in Halloween is made of fear, and ghosts aren't immune to this. Especially in battles where an attack is basically one student using extremely focused fear to hit/dodge another student. For a ghost to be immune to physical attack, that has to be their FEAR ability. ► The only difference between a "physical" attack and a "magical" attack in this shop is whether or not you use your hands/feet/stick/etc to hit someone or whether you use some flashy magical powers.

UPDATE!All subspecies now only have ONE Natural Ability! This ability is the aspect about that specie that sets them apart and makes them unique from ALL other species. It IS possible to earn more than one natural ability, however the how and why of this will not be stated. If your character's specie is NOT on our subspecies list, please add the ability your character's specie is most known for to your quest. Examples will show up as soon as we build up our subspecies index. smile For now: • Werewolves' natural ability is to shapeshift in and out of their wolf form. • Silkies/Skinwalkers' natural ability is to have a pelt of an animal in which they can "wear" to turn into their animal. To regain their humanoid form, they simply take the skin off. • The natural ability of Ghosts allows them to turn transparent and be able to "phase" through solid objects. • The natural abilities of Poltergeists enables them to possess an inanimate object and move it around. Similar to "telekinesis," except the ghost cannot move it at a range. Instead, the poltergeist must physically touch the object in order to possess it. **** EXAMPLES SUBJECT TO CHANGE **** Check back often!

UPDATE!I fear I caused some confusion by offering Red up as an example for FEAR, so to change that a STUDENT'S ability is now up as an example! Meet Emily and her cat-familiar Mr. Monty, roleplayed by lizbot. Hope this helps! If you're still stumped, please let us know over at the Questions thread! Thanks!
