Snaketongue had been sleeping through most of the afternoon, as was usual for him, and now that the sun was nearly out of sight he trotted out of his den, confident as always and ready for a new day. Or night. What ever.

The green dog yawned as he walked, unsure of what he wanted to do. He was a bit hungry, so perhaps a snack was in order. With that thought in his mind he set off toward the grasslands, knowing that there was an active colony of meerkats nearby that he could probably snatch something from.

But then again perhaps there was something else he was supposed to be doing? He stopped and thought about it for a moment. Surely they would come get him if someone needed to be found? He was a finder after all, and so his job was to go and find missing dogs, right? They'd tell him, he was certain, and besides, who was to stop him from going to get a snack? Nobody.

With that he started moving again, his stomach not at all happy with his delay. "Alright, alright, I'm going." He said with a smirk as his stomach made an unpleasant grumble. "Calm down."

Duskback stretched and yawned, waking up to a rising moon. He was typically up earlier in the afternoon, but today was an exception, it seemed. The sun was already set, and dusk was falling on the lands. He gave his head a shake to help wake himself up before heading out.

Over the "years," Dusk had managed to learn quite a bit about fighting. Brawling with his brothers in play fights and the like had taught him quite a bit. He'd never been in a real fight, but really felt no need. After all, that would mean he would have to go around picking fights, and that wasn't his style.

Hunting, however, was a different story. Sure, he'd done his share of small-game hunting, what pup didn't? But Duskback had yet to work with the pack to bring something bigger down. After all, his title would be "hunter," not "warrior." He couldn't help but feel a bit ill-prepared there.

An ear flicked to that heavy thought. He would worry about that when it came. Besides, how far off could a hunt be from a spar?

Especially with other members to back you up.

He took to the lands to find himself some breakfast... And caught sight of another dog on the horizon. It was a relatively unfamiliar face, until he remembered that the stranger could be a new recruit. Now that he thought about it... Duskback was quite certain that was where he had seen this one before.

"Hey there!" He called, altering course to meet up with the green dog.

Snaketongue turned his head and saw a brown dog with purple spots heading towards him. Male. Oh well, he couldn't win every day.

"Hello." He called back, stopping so that the other could catch up with him. "I'm afraid I don't remember your face, friend, but I'm certain I've seen you before." He thought about it. He knew he had at least seen most of the pack members around before, but he still didn't know hardly any of them by name. Then again, he wasn't sure if they knew his either.

"The name is Snaketongue, in case you didn't know. Then again you might." He shrugged, "Most everyone here knows more than I do." He sat down, unsure of if this would be a long conversation or not. His stomach gave another rumble in protest, but he ignored it for the time being, even though the other male could probably hear it.

"Heh! My name's Duskback," he said with a nod. He was glad to see some new faces around the pack, it was always cool. As the stranger introduced himself, Dusk tried his best to associate the name with the face. "I'm the same, unfortunately. I can remember faces really easily, but names... not so much," he said with a sheepish grin. "But it's nice to formally meet you, Snaketongue," he said with a little nod. Duskback had learned some form of manners in his lifetime, he was glad to put them to use.

"Oh, I'm sure that's nonsense. It just depends on what you know; nobody knows everything," he said with a nod and a smirk.

His ears perked up at Snaketongue's stomach; the slightest hint of a grin formed at the corners of his mouth. "I was just going out to find some breakfast, I'm sure if we worked together we could bring something down that's big enough for the two of us to share. What do you say?" he offered with a headtilt. Somehow, he had a feeling that the adult would take him up on that.

"Nice to meet you, Duskback." Snaketongue really enjoyed these pack names. It made it much easier to remember everyone, since their names represented either their appearance or their personality, or even both. Very simple and practical.

"Not everything, but it's not hard to know more than me." He said with a friendly laugh, "At least not around here. I have much to learn still. Good thing I'm a fast learner." He flashed a sly grin at him for a moment, but it vanished as quickly as it had come. The mention of food was just what he was hoping for, or at least what his stomach was hoping for.

"Certainly." He nodded, "It would be a pleasure to hunt with you, Duskback. Where do you suggest we start?" He glanced around, still rather unfamiliar with the area in general. If they were going after larger game than meerkats, he had no clue where to go. "It would be an honor to learn from an older member." He smirked. Duskback was younger than he, but was older in the sense that he knew the area and the pack better than this newcomer. He hoped that the other dog had caught on to what he meant.

Dusk decided to drop that- if the dog wanted to insist that he might know more, then whatever. He hated, though, to feel superior to another. Equal, yes. Identical, not typically, and superior? Not often at all. "Well, alright then, I'll teach you what little bit I know, alright?" he offered. "I do know an area with some antelope; they're usually pretty drowsy at this time of day, so with the two of us, we should be able to catch one." Drowsy though they may be, they woke quickly enough. Wake on and you'll have woken them all, and once they were on the run, you wouldn't be catching one on your own.

"Thanks. They're not too far this way, c'mon," he said lightly and started off. He wasn't fond of formalities or compliments, but he absorbed them alright. He was always cautious with such things not to let them go to his head. After all, Snaketongue was just trying to make some connections in the pack- he was sure of it.

His spots almost seemed to glow in the moonlight, but they were actually somewhat helpful. They almost seemed to confuse prey at night; at times like this. He would be sure to use it to his advantage, as he always did.

"I am deeply grateful for the knowledge." Snaketongue liked this kid. He wasn't sure why, but there was just something about him. Maybe it was the fact that he didn't feel threatened by his presence, didn't feel like he had to compete with him like he did with most males. Or maybe it was just that he was offering to help get him some food. He wasn't really sure.

Snaketongue followed silently behind Duskback, quickly noticing the hypnotic affect of his spots and doing his best not to stare too intently at them. It made him feel a bit dizzy, and that was the last thing he needed when they were going to go hunt.

It wasn't long before Snaketongue could both smell and see antelope nearby. He looked at Duskback expectantly, awaiting instructions on how to proceed. It wasn't as though he didn't know how to hunt, but he hadn't hunted with a partner in quite some time. There was probably some different strategy involved.

"Yeah, no problem," he said with a little nod. "They're this way, often..." he said. "If you go due East from here, you can typically find them along your way," he said quietly, in case they were closer than he had ever seen. The dog trotted with all senses on high alert- he had a good feeling about this; with a hunting partner, they could definitely pull it off... He had trained himself for situations like this... And with the cover of darkness and the element of surprise in their hands, they would bring home a good dinner.

He turned to Snaketongue and then back to the antelope- doublechecking that they would be out of earshot if he whispered before proceeding to do so. "Alright. Like I said, this time of day they're pretty... asleep. So, uh. We've gotta sneak up as close as we can get, then coordinate when we charge- we should both reveal ourselves at the same time. You know the drill with selection, go for the weakest or slowest. We should split up somewhat, but we'll remain in vision. If they take off before we do, charge- I'll be doing the same thing. I'll give you a nod when I think it's time to go, if you don't agree, give me a headshake, we'll figure it out. Sound good?" he asked giving Snaketongue a nod. He hadn't ever coordinated a hunt with another hunter- it was kind of exciting.

Every time he was giving commands, it was just to himself. Though, he knew that a coordinated attack was the way to go here. He waited to see if there was anything Snaketongue wanted to add before they split up.
