Well, before I get to my point, I want to let you know that I have a fascination with Thailand and Mongolia (that doesn't matter) so, just letting you know. Now my point and concern is that I am trying to dabble in Muay Thai Kickboxing more, but I am afraid it is disgraceful to do so. Its such a rich cultural martial art and I may actually fight someone who is Thai and was born in Thailand and learned Muay Thai in Thailand. I don't want to be disgraceful and mock his culture, I have the utmost respect, I really do want to learn some more Muay Thai, but I can't help but feel I shouldn't even try. Can you guys give a bit of advice please?

I think in this case, the attitude is more important than the skill. Your attitude seems to be in the right place in that you respect the culture and recognize that you are no expert at it. Everyone has to begin somewhere in martial arts, even those that are natives to Thailand. I'd say, go for it with a humble attitude, like with any martial arts.

I never thought about it like that, to tell the truth. I don't think it should be a problem though. I take karate, and I'm not worried that a japanese person will be offended by anything. I'd say, go for it. Plenty of people that aren't from thailand learn muay thai, why should it be different for you?

Heh It would be an even bigger taboo for me considering the Chinese and the Japanese hate each other and I'm practicing a Japanese martial arts.

There are only 2 real ways that you can offend the people of Thai land:
1. Insulting their religion.
2. Insulting their royal family.
You should find them to be a warm and friendly people otherwise.

It was a simple question that has been solved... I don't think we need an animosity now.
