This may seem like an odd request, but does anyone know how to soundproof a room (besides physical means)?
At night, I try to get to sleep at a responsible time, but my dad tends to leave the living room TV on, and with our thin walls and doors, I can hear every single word. It makes it difficult to sleep. Since I really don't think my parents would be happy with me re-modeling my room to block outside noise, I was wondering if anyone has ever heard any less-conventional ways of soundproofing. Absolutely any sort of help would be appreciated. (Prayers, spells, rituals, etc.)
If anyone's wondering, no, he will not turn the TV down. It's not going to happen.

Also, come to think of it, if anyone knows a way for me to mentally block out the noise and/or focus on sleeping, that could be of use, too.

Thanks! ^^

I'd love it if I could learn somehting about this too. My dorm is super noisy, especially at night.

Have you tried ear plugs or noise canceling head phones, Sony’s are the best. There are plenty of options out there.

If you don't own ear plugs or noise canceling headphones enter a meditative state and close out all the sound.

I always have a fan on, even during the winter. When the TV in the other rooms gets too loud or I start to think too much, I just focus on the sound of the fan because it's comforting and relaxing to me. If the sound of a fan won't work for you, you could find a radio that plays the sounds of the ocean, a rain forest, or some other nature sound smile

a fan or fountain might help. It makes a drone that will cancel out the TV a bit. As long as you do not mind sleeping with white noise, you should be good. I have the fan myself, and I can not sleep without it, even in the winter!

Unfortunately, most of my ways are physical ways (My best friend is a musician) but if you need a cheap physical way- a good one is egg cartons or cardboard.

You could also try earplugs, it won't cancel out all the sound but it really helps lower it to a bareable level.

I've also found that one of my friends will play the classical station on a radio to cancel out outside noise (that really helps her get to sleep*)

I've had to live with roommates that've played Rockband at all hours of the night with surround sound turned up ridiculously high, Usually I'll just do some mental exercises like imagining the pulling and pushing currents in a pool and fall instantly asleep.
