After her last fiasco, you would've thought that Heliosyne would've learned not to wander around. Well, she didn't. Instead, she now was a nomad, creeping around the dark forest as she pleased with no care for anything except whatever happened to catch her interest at the time.
Right now, she was stalking through the underbrush of the Deep Woods, belly full of fish from Lake Ha'tooka and looking for something interesting. Suddenly she paused, eyes rolling over to a large hole in the ground. Grinning the Di'taki leaped in, pawing around. Why was there a big pile of rocks in here? She lay her claws on one, sniffing it. Tasty rock? Her tongue lashed out, swiping across the rough surface. No, not tasty.
Wait. Was someone coming?

Just what did this stranger think she was doing?! Cyranis puffed his feathers out, hissing and shrieking. "My rocks! What are you doing to my rocks!?" His pelt was so dark that it was barely visible in the darkness of the hole, but his feathers and eyes glowed a bright, brilliant turquoise, illuminating the walls, the pile and the intruder.

Oooh, glowy. "Pretty beautiful other something," she babbled unintelligently, crimson eyes peering over the male's pelt. He was pretty. "Heliosyne," the female ducked her head towards her chest, indicating herself. Then she looked up at the stranger, watching him with interest. She'd apparently missed the memo that she wasn't welcome here.

Frowning, Cyranis craned his neck a bit straighter. What was wrong with this Di'taki? She didn't make any sense! After a moment's hesitation though, he finally muttered, "I'm Cyranis. Now move." He quickly shouldered her out of the way, and set about to counting his rocks. If she had stole even one of them, he swore he'd rip her limb from limb.

Heliosyne simply let him muscle her out of the way, uncaring. She was still entranced by him and the rocks, however, so she stuck around. When he began to do...something...she crept up behind him, sniffing the feathers on his back. Oooh, male-scent. She rubbed her face on him, cooing softly. "Pretty..."

Immediately he stiffened, snarling as the female touched his back. Quickly he jumped back, hissing again. "Okay, listen. If you're going to stay here, don't touch me. Or my rocks. And I'd prefer if you didn't speak, either. In fact, if you'd just leave, that would be awesome." After a second he pouted, feathers drooping. "Now look! You made me lose count." With that, he pushed back past her, making sure to sit on the opposite pile of the side from Heliosyne, and began to recount, grumbling under his breath.

She simply blinked at Cyranis, clearly confused. Why did he want her to leave, and not speak, and not touch him? The female began to sulk, whining softly. What had she done to deserve this? He was so pretty and glowy and mean!

The whimpers reached his ears. For a few minutes he just lay his four ears back, trying to block the noise as he continued to account for his rocks, but finally the male gave a snarl. "Fine, you can touch me. Just not too much. And it's not 'cause I like you." And that was the truth! He didn't like this female at all, but that sound was so pitiful. It even made Cyranis' hardened heart-strings twinge a bit.

Suddenly, the offense was forgotten and Heliosyne was back to normal, prancing over to Cyranis as though he'd never hurt her feelings in the first place. She snuggled into his feathers. So warm, and pretty~. Silently she shut her eyes, leaning up against the male. Sleepy...

He felt the weight against him and resisted the urge to cringe. He hated being touched. It wasn't exactly a baseless fear, either - but he didn't want to think about that now. The male shuddered as he continued to count his rocks, until finally he had clawed his way through the pile. 154... Just as many as there had been before. She'd not stolen any. Finally the male relaxed, confident now that his collection had been accounted for.
What was wrong with this female? She was clearly mentally unstable, though she seemed friendly enough. He'd heard sometimes of the Curse being accompanied by other problems. Perhaps she was one case of this? His back-most eye rolled in its socket, peering at her.
Was she asleep?
...Crap.

Sure enough, Heliosyne had fallen into dreamland. the combination of the den's darkness, the male's warmth and her own comfort had lulled her into unconsciousness. She was decently cute, with her tongue lolling out. Cute in a dumb way, that is.

Well, it was getting rather close to night, so...Cyranis slowly began to tilt under Heliosyne's weight, trying to ease himself into a lying position without waking the female. Finally he felt his shoulder and flank connect to the warm ground underneath him, and he relaxed. She still lay on him, her head burrowed into his shoulder feathers. But it was almost...kind of nice. She was too stupid to be a threat to him, after all, and she was warm.
He lay there for awhile in the turquoise-illuminated dark, eyes staring straight ahead. He didn't want her company forever. Hopefully she'd leave on her own in a few days...slowly his thoughts began to creep along at the pace of molasses, and then the turquoise glow began to fade until his consciousness slipped into blackness.

The next thing she knew, there was light in the den. And not the light of Cyranis' feathers, either. Morning light! Quickly Heliosyne snapped to attention, snorting to clear her sinuses. Looking down to the sleeping male, she nudged him in the shoulder. He wasn't glowing!

The male hissed as he was nudged. Unlike his companion, he wasn't affected by the morning light. As he came to, his feathers began to shimmer again, though his glow was greatly clouded by the small amount of light coming into the den. It was called the Deep Woods for a reason, after all. Sitting up, he set about to counting his rocks.
"So, you. How would you like to head down to Lake Ha'tama? I've been meaning to go down there for awhile." What was he doing?! Why was he inviting this idiot along with him? She'd just get in the way! But...at the same time...He paused his counting for a moment to peer into her eyes. She was just so...adorable. He hissed and finished counting - 154, as usual.

Lake Ha'tama. She could faintly remember the name. Although she'd been there many times as a child, in her mental haze, she wasn't able to remember the dead waters, the grieving and the pain. Instead she simply snuggled into Cyranis' feathers again, unresponsive.
