 Sphele stood knee-deep in an oasis of water, feeling ripples of water caused by the wind pass around her pillar-like legs. She wasn't the only animal here, nooo. There were plenty of hoofed prey beasts and a few predators, but she'd stared at the water for a good long time to make sure there were no crocodiles and that it would be safe for her to enter. The grazers were on the opposite end of the pool, eyeing her warily but they seemed to feel assured that the water-logged wild dog could make no lightning quick assaults.
It was a lovely day. Hot, but not sweltering, and the water felt sublime around Sphele. With her eyes closed and her face to the sun she walked into the water until it was up to her belly. The dog's tail wagged happily. "Mmmm! So nice!" Fushigisou was padding along, not going anywhere in specific. He looked around, then spotted a watering hole nearby. Good! He needed a drink. Jogging over, not too fast as he was not a fan of over exerting himself for no reason, he trotted up to the banks. And sent quite a few little animals skittering away.
Frowning, the large lion had to consider himself for a moment before he remembered that he was a giant beast with claws and fangs that enjoyed the flesh of other creatures. That would, then, explain why they all ran away when he came up.
Shrugging, he bent his head and lapped at the water, only to notice a shadow draped across the water. He looked up, seeing a blue dog of some kind with her paws in the water. He wrinkled his nose, clicking his tongue behind his teeth. “Folks like to drink out of this water, you know.” He said, tilting his head and wondering what she was doing.Sphele didn't hear the approach of another animal, or much care because she thought it was just another cute lil' antelope or klipspinger coming for a sip. However, she did find it weird when some of the animals already at the water took off. When what sounded like a lion spoke behind her, her ears stood up straight and she started. She turned, slowed by the water, and stared at the male. He was big! But he didn't look mean or scary, so she didn't feel threatened.
Her dark eyes looked him over and thought of what pretty colors he was! She smiled and laughed. "Yes, but at least I'm not getting it dirty. I keep clean! And not in this pool, I wash elsewhere." Well, she was in water often, which meant she was in a constant state of cleanliness. Or at least in one better than most other animals.
"See? It's clean!" To prove her point she leaned over and lapped up some of the water. It was awfully tasty water, or at least to her all water was. She straightened and wagged her tail. "Delicious! Try some!"

 The blue and green lion watched the strange wild dog, as he realized she was, as she splashed around in the water to face him. Sitting at the bank, tail swishing behind him and padding the ground. He smirked a bit, apparently amused.
She didn’t look like much of a target for a fight. She was just a dog, much smaller than he was and not at his ‘level’, no doubt. He didn’t want to fight with her anyway, since she was a girl, and that was probably rude. That rule applied to some other species, didn’t it? He wasn’t sure, as he rarely interacted with lions, let alone others.
Save in sparring matches and battles.
“I did try some, but then I saw you were in it. Now the taste’s gone off for me. But I guess that’s in my head. Huh. Well, whatever. If you say you’re clean I’ll buy that.” He nodded, drooping his head to lick at the water.Sphele had met a few lions here and there. One had been a blue lioness she'd stayed with for a little while in her territory that made for rich hunting. She hadn't quite sized up the lion, but he didn't seem like a threat - at least not to another predator like herself. She returned his smirk with a smile (the girl didn't really know any better). That is, until he mentioned her affecting the water.
"Hmph!" She furrowed her brows. She waited until he tried some more. "It's not bad!" She nodded, as though trying to convince herself, too. "What brings you to this watering hole, if you don't mind me asking?" She tilted her head and sat in the water, as though forgetting she wasn't on dry land. He watched her, canting his head to one side.
“No, I guess it just tastes like water. But that’s a good thing, so I can’t complain. I’m almost disappointed it doesn’t taste different now, with all this build up.” He sighed, shaking his head. He had some water clinging to it from dipping his head too far, but it didn’t seem to bother him. Actually, he just didn’t notice. He had other things to do.
Like splash into the water to join her.
“There, now it can taste like the both of us. Or neither of us, I guess. Did I introduce myself? I’m Fushigisou.”

"Better to taste like nothing than to taste like mud, though!"
Sphele barked happily as he splashed into the water. She assumed a playful posture- front end down (head just above the water) and her rump in the air with her tail curled over her back.
"Hi, Fushigisou! I'll call you Fushi - if you don't mind. I'm Sphele! It's hard to make a nickname of that." With her face just above the water she lowered her chin and opened her mouth, taking in gulps of the water.
"Nope, no different, still just water." Her tail wagged and she put her nose in the water and blew bubbles. She giggled under water, which produced all the more bubbles.
He watched as she ducked down, almost thinking she was going to go under the water, but she kept her head just above it. Laughing, he echoed her posture, though he was a bit taller so he avoided the surface fairly easily.
“Sounds good to me! I know my name is a mouthful, anyway.”
He swished his tail behind him, kicking up sprays of water, trying to think if he could name her something shorter. But it was already as short as it could go, and he sighed and gave up on that one. “You’re right, it’s too hard to make a nick-”
Laughing, he saw her making bubbles, and splashed over to her quickly. He lifted one of his big paws and pushed her head under the surface of the water, though he let her up right away.
Sphele laughed as he mimicked her- it was a dog posture! She didn't tell him though. It was when she'd begun blowing bubbles she saw him play in the water too. Water was life, and it was great for making friends, too!
Her head was pushed underwater for a second or two and she called out "Aha-!" before it disintegrated into more bubbles. She surfaced, soaked and lowered the rest of her body to match it. Her expression turned into a smirk as she plotted her revenge. Of course it'd be difficult to push a lion underwater… In the mean time she snapped her jaws which sent up splashes of water in his direction. "No fair!"
Aha! Sphele turned her back to Fushigisou and began to dig, or at least the motion of digging. It wasn't the torrential spray of water she would have liked, but it was the best she could think of. She kicked up the water in his direction, hoping to soak him too.

Fushigisou laughed as she bubbled her protests into the water, pulling back so she could come back up. He shook his head at the splashing, shaking the water from his mane. Which was half submerged anyway. So he was just throwing water all over and getting himself more wet.
Whatever, it was fun!
“Whoa!” he yelled, as she started digging water at him. He hadn’t expected that, though he was jealous that he hadn’t thought to do it that way. Now it was just copying if he did it that way. He ran out of the water, circling around on the bank so he could leap on her from behind her. Or in front of her, since she had turned around. He leapt on her and tackled her into the water.
A giant lion playing with a wild dog, which were by nature much smaller and dainty. It half looked like he was trying to drown her, but really he was taking every precaution not to hurt her.
Sphele, dripping wet, felt she was gaining the upper paw. Like she had him on the ropes! She paused momentarily as he left the water, curious if something had caught his eye. Even more curious if it was something tasty! But she didn't expect to see this big lion come flying at her! She barked her surprise and was tackled underwater, where she swam out from under the lion and to a spot a little ways away. It was a learned skill to swim underwater, and she still found it difficult sometimes, but she popped to the surface like a buoy and laughed.
"I don't think that was fair either!" She ran to the bank and tried launching herself at Fushi, but only hit his side like a jumping fish. But hey. she gave it a shot! She reeled back and smirked. She knew he was going easy on her- and she appreciated it. That didn't mean he was treating her like a baby, but it was only play!
"Hey!" She called and then dropped lower into the water. "Try bubbles!" She put her snout into the water and exhaled.
Fushigisou was not the best swimmer, so he couldn’t follow her too quickly. He splashed after her, water flying all over the place as he kicked his limbs to try and pursue her. But she was fast and already jumping back into the water before he had a chance to get very far. Retreating back to the more shallow part, he laughed as she bumped into him.
“Bubbles?”
He frowned. What was he, a fish? He was already out of his element, playing in water instead of grass, but he didn’t seem to mind. He ducked his head down and blew bubbles with his nose, as she was, but he ended up inhaling and coughing as he choked.
Clearing his nose, he tried to go back to the bank.
“Now my nose hurts,” he chuckled, not sounding like he was mad about it.

"Bubbles!" She only took her nose out to respond to his question without much of a real answer. Her brows furrowed as he coughed a little. "I'm sorry to hear that about your nose, but you were doing it wrong, duh." She stood up, she was about to her mid-belly in water, and she tried to give him a good lesson. "You inhale…" She took in a big lungful of air.
"Submerge…" she pushed her nose under the water, but had to take it out to continue her explanation. "And exhale. When you run out of air, you get outta the water! Or else you'll get water in your nose like you did." She preformed the inhale, submerge, and exhale, making the water around her nose look as though it were boiling. She ignored the funny looks given to her by other animals on the banks. This was a very important lesson! The blue and green lion huffed, making sure he had no more water in his nose.
Her lesson wasn’t lost to him, but he was tired of water now. He moved out of the water, shaking his head and then his whole body once he was out of the water so he could dry off a bit. He imagined he was going to look rather fluffy as it dried.
“I guess I’m not that used to water, is all. Though it’s more fun than I thought it was. So that’s good,” he laughed, plopping down on the bank.
“I think I’ll stick to dry land for a bit though. It doesn’t try to drown me.” He let off a big yawn, rolling onto his back. “Laying out under the sun and taking a nap is the perfect way to dry off.” He already sounded sleepy, though he had only been laying down for a few moments.Sphele was one of those animals that could never get tired of the water. A young pup had once asked her if she was part fish (and she was not). And because she was not, Sphele had to agree with him. She trudged out of the water and shook most of it off, her blue and cream fur sticking out askew.
"Yes, water is very very fun!" She answered and nodded, but his yawn was contagious.
She walked out of the water and laid down a few feet from Fushi, but she assumed a sprawl on her belly, her legs out before and behind her. "Hmmmmmm." She sighed with a smile on her face and her eyes closed. "Mmhmm!" The end.
