I have met a wonderful amazing girl, and we are in puppy love with each other. We have similar histories, similar interests in music and movies and fashion, we both want to travel a lot, and it just really seems like we could make this work out in a long run.

But, we'd have to hide ourselves for the next 8 years.

Allow me to explain; She is going to college on an ROTC scholarship. She was signing some paperwork last week, and she had to sign a "homosexuality clause". It stated that she never tried to be in a homosexual relationship, or even have homosexual thoughts or desires. Also, if the miliary program were to find out she so much as kissed a girl, she'd get kicked out. She would lose her scholarship for the 4 years of college, and the job she would have for the 4 years following her graduation from college.

... We thought at first, when we were just talking about a future together and her being in the military, that it was okay for gays to be in the military force as long as they werne't being like illegal. But her clause said that if they find out in any way, she's out of the program and everything.

Yes, it really sucks; but we're both willing to just deal with it. If the government doesn't want to accept our love and punish her for it, then that's fine; I'm small enough to hide in a lil' box! xd She said that as soon as those 8 years are up, she'd rip off her army uniform and reveal rainboooows!!!! 4laugh I just wish that I could, like, send her cute love pictures that she can put up in her dorm room, and pictures of me... buuuut nooooo then she would get kicked out. crying

So, I was wondering, because I know there are super nice people in this guild; if someone could do some research on this; and find out if it really truly is this strict?! I don't know how I'd be able to live in the same house as her and go grocery shopping with her, when we're both out of college and she has the military job, if NO ONE can find out about meee....but I have 4 years till we graduate so eh. anyways. i was wondering, yeah, if someone could help me figure out this weird law!?

From what I hear they are pretty strict about it if you get caught. But I also don't think it would be very difficult to hide, especially since it sounds like you two are fairly young. It's not like anyone else would ever know what went on behind closed doors, and it's very common for people to have roommates, especially same sex roommates and especially during or right after college. 3nodding

So I'd say live together, get a two bedroom place if you want to be extra safe and in case they ever looked into it, call her your roommate to everyone you know, avoid all public displays of affection, keep your curtains closed, and do what you want behind those curtains. wink

Although if this is something she can back out of it, I would seriously consider that route if I were her. Because I don't know if four years of free college and the promise of a job is worth having to lie about who you are, hide who you are, support anything that discriminates in that way, or work with people who have that much of a problem with same sex relationships. I'm thinking I might rather get in debt with student loans than put up with that!

yeah just do what lorien said just hide it and be patient and have fun while you can and then just wait for each other when yall get done. Im sure it will be worth it in the long run and will test your ability to stay together with someone.

There is also the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy. Its pretty self explanatory.

I have a friend who is bi-sexual, but he happens to be married to a woman so its not a big deal.

But, Lorien is right..she shouldn't lie about herself just to get free college and a job. Especially for 8 years. ):

I just got out of the Navy. And the most I've seen happen to someone is that they got kicked from the ship and put on shore duty.

However, this was a 20+ year Chief. So I'm not sure if any favors were done/ strings were pulled.

She has been in ROTC her entire high school career; it's her thing, you know? She earned a pretty high status in ROTC and her dad was in the military, and this is what she wants to do, and I support it. It's just going to be tough!

@Nik: Okay, that link was way to legal-y and I couldn't work my head around it! sweatdrop

I've had a week to cool off and I'm more chill about the whole situation. Her and I can make it work out; and that was some good advice about the 2 bedroom apartment.. with the curtains closed! xd Thanks~

The DADT policy is basically they aren't supposed to ask you your sexual orientation and they aren't supposed to investigate your sexual orientation unless they sex 'homosexual acts'.
