Kibela was really finding it hard to concentrate lately. Even though he carried on with his normal activities, he still couldn't shake the feeling he was being followed. Every night, the sensation would creep up his back, sink into his bones, and he could never sleep, his gray gaze searching the trees in anticipation. When morning came, he knew he wasn't being followed. But when night came, his muscles would lock in position, alerting him to the presence of another in the area.

Sometimes, he would wait. No one would come, never revealing themselves to him. Other times, he suspected he was going crazy from lack of contact. When was the last time he saw someone? It had been awhile, he thought, pawing at the deadened grass before him in boredom. Tonight was one of those nights he really did believe he was going crazy. After all, how could someone be nearby if he didn't smell anything unfamiliar?

That's right, he thought in obvious protest, he had to be correct on his assumptions. Since, why would anyone want to stalk a lion like him? In fact, he wondered why anyone would show an interest in him anyways. Though, every night, his imaginary stalker caught up with him quite well, even if he blended in perfectly with the blackness.

Kibela would have laughed if it hadn't of been for the simple fact he wanted to remain quiet and elusive, seeking shelter in his solitude.

Better to remain quiet than draw attention to yourself, he reminded himself easily.

However... there was actually someone else out there tonight - though she wasn't stalking the dark male. In fact, it would be pretty hard for Kawaa to stalk anyone at the moment. The young lioness was practically bouncing along - making little leaps into the air here and there, and singing. The song wasn't quite at the top of her lungs, but it was pretty close.

She knew that she was very near to the pride borders, if not over them - but she didn't really care. Today had been a good day. She'd actually caught something while out hunting, so she wasn't likely to be bothered about being 'lazy', and despite the late hour, she was still full of energy.

Hmmn. Perhaps if she was in the Rogue lands now, she might meet someone interesting!

He heard something.

At first, the rustle of the leaves parted as an illusion in his mind, birds singing in the embrace of the night, the moon whispering in his ear. Coincidentally, he did not notice the approaching lioness, his brain registering only the shocking freeze that enveloped his shaking body as he blinked, clearing his thoughts as sudden as they had come. Someone was there. Though it was a promise in the back of his head, he knew someone was out there, watching him; waiting for the opportunity to strike. His paranoid illusions drove him further into a fit of self-inflicted madness, and he backed away into the shelter of the shadows.

They would not get him tonight, no, they would not. Kibela shook his head feebly, claws retracting as he drug his teeth together, grinding the canines uselessly in an attempt to calm his frayed nerves. They would not reach him, he thought in defiance, repeating the phrase enough to where he would not panic, falling unstably into the blackness. "Hello?" His voice echoed dimly, gray orbs flickering uneasily in the night.

Though Kibela did not have to worry, his body shook with the force of his realization, fear gnawing away at the pit of his stomach. He was frightened for no reason. He was panicking in insanity for the comfort of it, and it was not easing him away from the icy grip of worry. It was stupid, actually, for him to be worried.

After all, the lioness wasn't going to hurt him. That was a part of his mind that whispered those savage thoughts.

To be honest, Kawaa hadn't even noticed that there was anyone else close yet - when Kibela suddenly called out, "Hello?"

Rather than frighten her, however, the sound of another voice just made the young lioness more alert and interested. "Hello!" she called back. "Where are you?" Darting about a little, she looked around for whoever had called. Were they hiding on purpose..? Was this a game?

To Kibela, it was not a game. Though the lioness's voice calmed him severely, he still felt fear rise up to the surface, threatening to overwhelm him. He lowered his head, unwilling to move, but certainly willing to speak even if his mouth refused to open. Nothing was going to happen. He knew it. He just needed to calm down, but he couldn't. Even the gears in his head refused to move.

It was ridiculous. "Hello?" He called again. "Where are you?" Essentially, anyone could say he was mimicking her. Uncomfortable with the idea of revealing himself just yet, he felt safer seeing her before she saw him.

It was a good idea... or some levels, at least.
