Mystery is defined as something not understood or beyond understanding; there were certain few who were capable of making sense of the untold secrets that surrounded life like mist. These select few were known as Detectives. Mysteries to them were behind every tree and within every living being; for everything had a secret waiting to be discovered.
One of these detectives who roamed the land searching for new mysterious adventures was a winged stallion named Wystan. He had been traveling as long as he could remember, always learning new information about the world and the soquili around him. In his constant travels he had encountered many mysteries and left them solved in his wake; ancient runes were discovered and soquili found that wished not to be. To Wystan, mysteries were his entire world, there was not a day when he did not feel the itch to solve a mystery or unveil a secret.
But, the thing was, on all his constant travels, he had never met another soquili who shared his love for the unknown. He was soon losing faith in the idea that there was a mystery fanatic like him out in the world, if there was, would he have not met them by now?

Copena had been lurking in the shadows of the trees. The sunlight often was to bright on her delicate flesh and eyes. She spent most of her life hidden in the fear that she was a monster and everyone would be scared of her. And it wasn't until recently after meeting Hard Tack her now mate, that she started to try and experience life.
Copena had a split personality, and today was her calmer, shy side. She was also very timid, and she didn't know a lot about the things in the world. So everything was like a mystery for her, and she was often frightened trying to do things on her own.
Copena was now at the edge of the forest looking into a clearing, there weren't any others around, but there was something in the middle of the field she wanted to see and she was trying to get out into the sunlight but it was just to bright. The timid mare tree cracked and creaked on her back as her muscles shifted positions.
Her hollow glowing eyes looked forward, and she then she glanced back to the trunk... "K-Kirkyard..."
Kirkyard her companion was resting in his home in the tree, and his eyes opened, the red orbs peering around. He flew out on her command and to the thing in the middle of the field.

Wystan continued his musings as he wandered out of the dense woods and into a field of tall golden grass that tickled his stomach. The angeni paused, letting the soft breeze trickle through his red and gold feathers. It had been awhile since he was in a field similar to this one; he had been searching for the ruins of the Golden City. Wystan shook his head as he remembered the company he had on the golden plains; the mare was as gold as the city the detective was searching for, but she was also as vein as Narcissus himself.
Removing his thoughts from the memory, Wystan observed his surroundings; thick forests were lined up in the east and a river hidden behind them. The detective knew that if he continued south he would encounter a large body of water, be it a lake or the sea. He sniffed the air; the wind was blowing from the south and brought with it the scent of salt. Icy blue eyes looked to the north, where the mountain ranges loomed; he had heard that those who were brave enough to attempt the passes would encounter a sea of sand on the other side of the ranges. One day Wystan would travel there and unveil the secrets that have been buried.
Seconds passed and a sensation of being watched drew the stallion away from his thoughts of sand; a dark speck was moving closer at a fast pace. Soon the black blob took the form of a shadowy apparition; Wystan peered at the creature with a curious expression.
“My, aren’t you an interesting little creature. Are there more of your kind?” The dark bodied stallion did not know if the creature talked, but he was just too curious to care, since he knew that he would find out the answer sooner or later.

Kirkyard flapped his wings and looked done at the stallion. Well... This would dissapoint Copena, she thought it was something he could actaully bring back for her... But it was a full grown horse, the mares eyes must not have been very good in sunlight.
"Well of course there are... I'm a bat you know... " His red eyes peered down. But it wasn't until he saw the shadow under him that he realized who the stallion was talking too... The shadows that follow copena, one followed in his shadow. "Oh them..."
The shadow wiggled around, and did some strange things, making a sorrowful sound, but not taking.
The bat landed on the stallions back. "There's a couple more, they belong to my mistress, if you will."
Copena stood back at the edge of the forest and watched, but she couldn't tell what was happening, and her voice couldn't raise loud enough for a yell.

Wystan’s icy blue eyes shifted to the sky as the bat spoke to him; he had yet to encounter a bat on his travels, so this experience was also new to him. He could identify the bat for what he was, but seeing one in person was more fascinating than hearing tales about them from his mother or other soquili. The shadows on the ground once again drew the eyes of the stallion, the bat’s words ringing in his ears, “Your mistress? Might I inquire who she may be?” There was a being out in the world that had shadows at her beck and call; this day was turning out to be more interesting, for that is usually how it goes.
He was not being polite, usually when he learns that there is a mystery a hoof and something extraordinary, Wystan tends to forget his manners, “I do apologize, I forget myself, I am called Wystan.” The detective wondered if the bat would take him to the one he called his Mistress; he would have enjoyed talking to her about the apparitions and learning how she came to be the owner of the shadowy creatures.

"Call me Kirkyard." The bat screeched. He was a bit of a trouble maker. He knew Copena didn't want to see another horse, but she needed to socialize and get out in the world. He circled around the stallion, and only sensed curiosity. "She's on the other end of the field in the shadow of the trees." If Wystan looked closely enough he would be able to see Copena's white eyes glowing and watching in their general direction. Kirkyard turned around and with the shadows in tow started his way back.
Copena watched, and she was able to see Kirkyard coming back but he didn't have what it was she wanted... But if was then that she saw it move, and came to realize it was another horse. She shuffled around wanting to hide herself. What an awful mistake on her part! He was going to come over... She had that feeling.

“It is a pleasure meeting you Kirkyard; that is a very interesting name you possess, does it have a significant meaning?” At the bat’s words, Wystan turned his gaze to the row of trees, searching for a sign of the bat’s mistress. It was not long before the detective noticed the tiny flash of white amongst the dark silhouette of the forest. Wystan took an educated guess that the white glow was the mysterious mare.
The winged stallion took his eyes away from the tree line and from the curious white glow, “Is your mistress alright with my arrival?” Wystan did not wish to arrive unwelcome into the mare’s presence; he was always willing to learn new things and solve mysteries, but he did not wish to be a burden to those around him.
Red and gold wings flashed in the sun as the stallion made his way, following the bat Kirkyard to the dark line of the forest a head.

Copena watched as the stallion followed Kirkyard. He was so... UGH dumb bat... She mumbled to herself. She wasn't able to run, so getting away was kind of... Out of the question now. Her ears rolled when the bat joined her. He had purposely brought the stallion over. Copena didn't have friends... Just Hard Tack and sure he was good and all...
As the stallion was just a line of trees away, she lowered her head. She her hair fell over her eyes... He would gasp and probably run away... She was use to such things...

For the first time, the detective’s blue eyes took in the bat’s mistress; her white and black mane covered her face, preventing the stallion from seeing her face. On the mare’s back there appeared to be a tree, Wystan cocked his head to the side, pondering how this feat was possible.
“Hello Miss, I do not wish to be a bother, but I would love to ask you a few questions about your little friends here and questions about yourself if you don’t mind?” Wystan bowed his head to the black coated mare with the strange markings. He did not want to be rude and if she did not want to answer his questions, he would leave, saddened that he would not be able to learn more about the mysterious mare, but he would leave if it was her wish.

Copena watched him and she shied away some thinking. Other normal ran off and avoided her. He was asking questions and seemed like he was really interested, and not even in a bad way... But was it okay to tell him about all that...? She shuffled her hooves a little before she nodded in agreement to the stallion. It would be nice to share with someone...
"I wasn't always like this..." She told him. She remembered that night in the graveyard. She was so scared even now thinking about it.

Was he too forward? Wystan had a moment of worry when he sensed the mare before him close herself off to him, but then her words made the worry dissipate.
“You weren’t always like this? Then what were you like, if you don’t mind my asking?” The mare was such a fascinating enigma and she appeared in need of a friend who did not shy away from her appearance and perhaps he could be the one to do so.
