"...And if you need us, we'll be sitting right over here."

Despite the near tangible excitement in the afternoon air, Sergei made a face as his mother reached over to ruffle his hair affectionately and then, recalling a second too late that it didn't really need any more messing up, tried in futility to smooth it back down.
"Yeah, mom, I know." He shied away from Lunar's hand before she could get really fixated on an already lost cause, a blush creeping up his cheeks as he cast a brief sidelong glance at Theo, who he had not met very long before. "Stop it," he mumbled, embarrassed. We're in public, his expression said. Crowded public.

Though she followed his gaze with a knowing smile, Lunar respected the demand and backed off. "You boys be good, okay?" she said, addressing both Sergei and Theo. "Make sure you come check in with us in an hour."

"We will," Sergei assured her with mild exasperation, anxious to get the parents out of the picture to prevent any potential humiliation on their account. He waved back at the two women and their calls of, "Have fun!" halfheartedly as they walked away through the throngs of people populating the carnival. When they were (finally) out of sight, he jammed his hands into his pockets and turned back to Theo, almost buzzing with abrupt excitement.

"So," he said, trying unsuccessfully to sound casual, "Where do you want to go first?"

There were two pairs of eyes that watched the interaction between mother and son pass, waiting until the very end before peeling away and addressing each other with expectancy. In an act far less touching than what had been previously witnessed, Colette reached out one arm and grabbed her kid by the back of the neck, staring daggers from behind her eyelashes. "Don't get into trouble. Be nice. Have fun." She ordered with brief, clipped words - an inconspicuous glance at Sergei with emphasis on 'nice'. Her red eyebrow was raised, waiting for his assurances, but Theo was already baring triangular teeth as he weaseled out of her grasp. "Yeah, yeah, I know. I'll be an angel like always. BYE, MOM."

Any further concern she might've wanted to voice was ignored, as Theo slid to the other boy's side and marched forward, turning his back on the parents that were now obsolete. He waited until they were out of sight and Sergei spoke, to make any acknowledgment of his presence. And when that time came, he spun around faster than expected and took two steps closer until he stood an almost uncomfortable distance to the taller boy. The movement seemed a little bit brash, considering they had hardly even met, but his excessive smile didn't waver. He literally radiated energy in all directions while he considered his reply, which he gave with too much enjoyment. It seemed, even at this point, that everything about Theo was pretty over-the-top.

"I hear the games are pretty much rigged. We gotta go on a ride or something then, unless you want to get cheated. How about it?" His tone was conversational, but obviously already set as leader - he appeared determined to have final say on what they were doing. Having gotten the important information out of the way, the yellow boy shifted his weight and threw his head to the side in a peculiar angle, examining Sergei for a moment. "Although it looks like you've already been on one. Nice hair."

The truth had tried to be hidden. Gavin was pretty sure he knew why Sun had tried not to have him and his siblings know. But Gavin knew when she was up to something, he'd learned her tells, but she wasn't one to crack. So then, he'd gone and found Edmund. Sun told Edmund everything since he was older, and all it took was Gavin running circles around him with his words to get him to spill the beans. There was a carnival in town. Sun apparently was planning to take all her kids there for a day.

The truth was dangerous, and the truth also could set you free. Freedom in this case took the form of Gavin sneaking out of the house to the carnival, by himself. Not only did he not have the patience to wait for his Mom and the rest of his family, BUT how much cooler would it be if he was there all by himself? Besides, he'd been hording his allowance, so what did he need Mom there for anyway?

Though, he probably didn't need the money so bad anyway. That's what being invisible was for, and if he was caught, well gee, he'd just have to turn on the charm wouldn't he? So into the carnival he snuck, darting carefully past the people. He found a place out of sight and turned himself visible.

Gavin gleefully strolled out into the crowd from his little hiding spot and let himself take in the sight for the first time. There was so much to do, so many smells, so many noises. He wasn't quite sure where to go to first. Though he had to admit, the rides looked pretty awesome, and he'd never been on one before. He scanned around noticing each sign had a certain number of tickets to ride. Next he looked for a place to get tickets. He considered long and hard, looking at the prices. Wellll maybe he'd pay for the tickets, since he'd gotten in for free. He got in line for tickets and looked around while he waited for his turn to buy.

Admittedly, the manner in which Theo approached him caught Sergei off guard; he blinked with surprise and stared at the other boy with widened eyes. Even though it was sadly true he had especially not been expecting the comment on his hair, especially from someone he had just met. A faint blush crept up his cheeks for the second time in a much-too-short-for-comfort span of time as he struggled with how he was going to react to it. The most important factor, he decided, was to figure out whether or not Theo had intended it to be rude.

Squinting his left eye at the other boy, Sergei regarded him more closely this time. He didn't know Theo well enough to make any sort of real judgment and he knew it. Thus, for his own sake, he decided he was going to believe that he hadn't meant it to be a rude comment. Even as he thought that, however, he doubted his decision.

"I think a ride's a good idea," he agreed, tilting his chin down a fraction and ignoring the hair comment completely (if the shorter boy had happened to mean it, Sergei figured maybe doing so would have the double purpose of giving the impression that he wasn't phased by such remarks). "They'd be more fun anyway."

Glancing around Theo and himself, Sergei also noted the signs around the carnival's attractions, trying to gauge how many tickets the two of them should each get. "We'd better go get some tickets first, then," he said after a moment, closing tan fingers around the coins in his pocket, and headed off to take their place in the ticket line.

A master at the craft of messing with people, Theo read each of the signs that Sergei gave him in reaction to his comment, and was incredibly amused. It had obviously caught him by surprise, and probably even gotten under his skin, even if he had chosen not to reply to it. Well, that's fine then. If Sergei wanted to ignore it he could, but it didn't mean the topic wouldn't be showing up again. The look on Theo's face made that obvious - between half-lidded laughing eyes and the smirk, he was definitely not forgetting it.

"Right, right. Which are all the reasons why I knew it'd be the best idea in the first place." the bee said loudly, making a kind of dismissive gesture with his hand before glancing sideways toward the ticket line. His mind seemed to be completely consumed by his own inward scheming, which was obvious in the way he took control of the situation. He took another second to stare then suddenly snapped his eyes back to Sergei with renewed vigor. He had seen a few people approaching and thought of his plan instantaneously.

"Quick, run, we're going to try to get in line before these people can. ....No, seriously, I hate waiting." And he had already grabbed the front of Sergei's shirt before he could answer, speeding away in an attempt to cut off Gavin and the few others on their way before they could get in line. Why didn't he just run off by himself? Well that was obvious. If they got called out for jumping in just a second before the others did, he would be using Sergei as a shield.

Gavin was happily moseying into line when.... well Gavin didn't even know quite what to make of it. There was a boy with some ridiculous looking pom pom antennae dragging a much taller boy and running full speed towards the line. They were, well maybe it was just the one with antennae since the other was being dragged, obviously trying to cut everyone off and get in front. That was most annoying to Gavin. However he wasn't going to speed up and try to cut them off. No, he planned to let them get just in front of him. He'd get them back in his own way once they got up there. A little satisfied look crossed his face as he began to plot on how best to do it. He'd have a little bit of time, since the line already had several people in it.

That antennae boy was going to think twice before he butted in front of Gavin again.

"W-whoa!" Sergei stumbled awkwardly after Theo for a moment before managing to regain his balance and jog after the other boy without looking like gravity was about to make his face high five the pavement. He hadn't been expecting Theo to do that either - he, for one, didn't have much of a problem waiting in line, even if it wasn't the most fun thing to do. The group of people heading to the line wasn't a big one anyway, and it was moving pretty fast. But obviously Theo wasn't thinking about that and cared only that they didn't have to wait a second longer than they had to.

Regardless, the dark-haired boy didn't attempt to stop his friend, the only visible signs of his disagreement with the action being the faint frown on his face and Theo's hand gripping his shirt. Even the frown wasn't caused solely by disapproval. Sergei couldn't help but feel like he was on the verge of being thrown in front of a train at a whim. But before he could dwell on that, they had already arrived at the line only seconds before another boy their age with purple skin.

Sergei glanced over his shoulder and noticed that some of the other people that they had just cut off were frowning darkly at them and muttering to each other under their breaths.
"Some of them look pretty mad," Sergei whispered to Theo, watching as a woman typed furiously on her phone (probably sending some sort of angry text).

It hadn't been a concern of Theo's to actually plan out this excursion, but apparently, none of the supposed 'cons' were bothering him. From the fact that he could've mowed Sergei into the ground, to the disgruntled masses behind him, it was one huge practical joke. There was something particularly impish about the way his eyes flicked over his own shoulder, and the stifled laughs that followed as he looked away, that let on just how much he didn't care. He released the front of the taller boy's shirt smiled thinly up at him, eyes narrowed as he savored the annoyance of the mumbles behind him. "They do, don't they?" Theo mused, hooking a thumb into his pocket casually as he watched the line proceed in front of them. "Well. They'll get over it eventually. Just pretend they aren't there, they won't bother you." Although as he said this, the yellow boy glanced just to his side, as if debating whether or not to acknowledge the people behind him again. He snorted when he heard someone farther back in the line say something along the lines of, 'Where's the fire?' with the inclusion of some colorful language, and considered answering them. What seemed particularly odd was that the guy he cut off directly wasn't saying anything at all - like he didn't care? You'd think he would be the most annoyed, but whatever.
His loss.

Once Gavin settled upon his plan of attack he decided to introduce himself to the boys in front of him. He stepped between them, phasing through them if he had to and looked from one to the other. "Sooo you guys must be from the academy too. Don't think we've met yet though. I'm Gavin." He gave them both a relaxed but friendly smile as he observed them both more closely. It was hard to even guess what the taller boy's item was, and hard to even read him really. The shorter boy's item was obviously a bee with the wings he had and the antennae. Gavin could read him pretty well. He was obviously trouble. It took one to know one after all.

If it wasn't evident from Theo's posture alone how unconcerned by the irritation of those behind them he was, Sergei could definitely tell by the way he talked about the situation - how he seemed to find it downright hilarious. Sergei wasn't quite sure how he felt about that, but he evidently didn't feel strongly enough opposed to it to protest and instead took his friend's advice of ignoring them. Or, he would have, if it wasn't for the fact that the boy directly behind them was suddenly directly in front of them and was talking to them like nothing had happened.

Sergei didn't jump, but instead stared in confusion at Gavin, squinting one eye (as was his usual reaction to almost any situation). It had been like he had walked right through them - despite having powers of his own, he had never seen anything like that before. But then, even if he hadn't brought it up, it was obvious from the other boy's colouring as well as his wings that he was from the Academy, and lots of odd things happened at the Academy.

Pushing that thought to the side, the dark-haired boy nodded in a wordless greeting.
"Sergei," he offered. "Yeah, we are, but I don't think I've seen you around." Now that this guy was talking to them Sergei felt the need to apologize for cutting in front of him, but suppressed it. He didn't, however, stop himself from glancing sidelong at Theo and shrugging, one eyebrow raised, as if to say, What's up with this guy?
