Self rp between Aphrodite and Kaimu.
The sun was just starting to climb up on the sky as the day was brand new. A little green and white cub was off at the shoreline playing with the incoming waves. Kaimu was a very happy camper. He loved the ocean and the water very much, and could spend his days happily with his family and the ocean. His eyes were bright and wide as he spotted a bird hopping along the shoreline and attempted to follow it.
A yawn escaped her maw as Aphrodite blinked away the sleep. She had slept in today, she had been physically exhausted from spending the whole day with her best friend. Kiburi just proved to be too much for her to handle sometimes. She would often wonder how they became friends in the first place, as their personalities are vastly different…but nevertheless, there is something there that attracts the two together and they have been friends ever since.
As she wandered out of her den and down to the shore, it didn’t take long for her gaze to land on a small cub playing. It brought a small smile to her face as she watched the cub’s happiness, but her fear of water didn’t fade. She watched the cub for a little while before coming to sit down on the sand and spoke, “If you continue what you’re doing, you’re not going to catch the bird.”
Ears flicked back in surprise as Kaimu heard the voice of an older lion. He stopped his play and turned to find the source of the voice. It didn’t take him long to spot the older lioness sitting some distance away from him. With a huge smile on his face, he replied, “I wasn’t trying to catch the bird, Silly! I was trying to be like the bird! It moves so fast on the sands, and I wanna mimic it!” He nodded his head at his words before he remember his mother’s teachings on manners, “I’m Kaimu! Nice to meet you!”
The cub’s words made her shake her head. What a silly thing to try and do. Lions were not birds, and thus, could not be like one. Aphrodite just couldn’t fathom what went on in the cub’s mind and didn’t try to. Cubs were like a mystery to her…she just couldn’t understand them at all. It didn’t help that she didn’t get much interaction between them, given her personality and all. “Mimic it? Good luck trying then, Kaimu.” At his introduction, she returned the favor, “I’m Aphrodite. Though if it’s hard for you to remember, Dite will be just fine.” She thought that the cub might have some trouble with her name, since it was unique.
As the older lioness introduced herself, Kaimu tried to remember her name. It wouldn’t do good if he forgot her name while on an encounter with her later on. “Ok Dite!” It had a nice ring.
He was thoroughly soaked from playing in the water and shook himself slightly. Damp and covered with sand on some parts of his body, he made his way over to the older lioness and smiled up at her, “What are you doing over here? Why don’t you come over to the shore and play with the waves? We can play a game together!” It would be cool to play with someone bigger than him that wasn’t his parents!
The way the cub said her name was rather cute. Aphrodite blinked at his questions before she felt herself feel nervous. What was she to say to this little cub? That she was absolutely terrified of the water and didn’t want anything to do with it? Surely the cub would wonder and probably talk her out of her fear, but nothing could be said that’d make her want to go anywhere near the water. She replied, “I was just getting out of the den and away from my family for the morning. Some alone time, you know? Being with so many siblings can be overwhelming at times and I like to spend a little time by myself to think and whatnot,” She paused briefly, “I’d rather not play in the water, but we can play up here, if you want?” She offered soflty.
Kaimu’s smile turned down slightly as she didn’t take him up on his offer. “What? Why not? The water is so much fun!” Who could possibly not want to play with the water? He looked up at her and started to pout, “Playing up here would be no fun!”
She knew it coming and Aphrodite just shook her head. Her face started to heat up slightly as she felt her cheeks turn pink. Luckily her fur was dark to mask the blush. And then an idea came to her, something that would definitely attract the little cub’s attention. “You want to know a secret?”
Just as Kaimu was about to pout some more, the older lioness’ question quickly piqued his curiosity as he nodded his head, “Oh yes! I promise I won’t tell anyone!” What could she know that he didn’t? He was very curious indeed!
Just as she thought, she had snagged his attention and bent her head closer to the cub’s height. She lowered her voice slightly and glanced to the left and then to the right, as if this was a big secret. In a slightly hushed voice she spoke, “I can’t go into the water. If I go into the water, the ocean will take my pink away! I used to have more pink on me, but when I went into the water, those areas started to turn white!” She stretched out a paw to show the cub, “See?”
Eyes widen as Kaimu listened to the story. What! He looked at the older lioness’ legs, and noticed the large patches of white. It must be true! He couldn’t think of anything else that would explain the story, and therefore, he deemed it to be true. “Oh! Then that’s alright. Perhaps we can play another day since I want to play in the water.” He looked up at her with a questioning gaze.
Aphrodite nodded, “Oh yes, we can play another day then. Don’t let me stop you from having fun!” She motioned forward with her paw.
Kaimu tilted his head, “Are you sure? Ok then!” He turned to bound off back to the waves to play, but not before he turned back to the lioness, “I hope we meet again!” He called out once he touched the water.
With a soft chuckle escaping her, she stood up and watched the cub play so childishly in the waters, like she never could. And with a flick of her tail, she turned to wander off towards some place less close to the water.
