Idobo'Intombi sat stock still in front of a tree. Her tail was off to the side. Her ears were perked forward. Her legs were pulled in tight. The only movement in her body was the steady rise of her chest and a few hairs in her tail that moved ever so slightly in the light breeze. In front of her was the largest baobab tree she had ever seen, and she was absolutely fascinated. Her soft eyes were alight with interest and wide with attention, staring at the giant, twisting branches and the fat trunk. She imagined what it'd be like to scale up that trunk and sit on one of those branches, but she was almost sure she couldn't manage it.

Intombi was a simple lioness at heart, and easily amused. Up until a few moments ago, she had been sniffing out a potential meal. Because she wasn't direly hungry, when her scent tract had led her here she stopped mid-sniff to stare. Since she'd been here, birds had come and gone - beautiful birds. And something small and furry had poked it's little head out but then quickly hid again. She had no idea what it was, but she was willing to wait there and find out.

Plus, she didn't have much else to do. This thing was the biggest tree she had ever seen, and easily the most exciting thing she'd seen all day. So there she sat, still as she could, staring at the most perfect plant ever.

Fushigisou didn't have a home, and didn't have any place to go to or from. He just wandered where ever there was green to follow, and liked staying in places with dense forests or underbrush best. They could be hard to find, however, and that frustrated him.

He saw in the distance a tree that seemed to stand above the others, and decided to check it out. Padding over, not going too fast because he liked to conserve his energy for those 'just in case' fights that never really seemed to happen, he made his way close enough to see that someone else had the same idea.

He looked at the lioness that was staring at the tree, blinking in wonder. He knew he liked plants, but he always thought he was the odd one out. Spotting someone else staring at a tree like that made him slightly confused.

"What are you doing?" he asked, not meaning to scare her but not clearing his throat or alerting her to his presence before he spoke.

Intombi had been so solely focused on the tree and it's inhabitants that she hadn't heard another approaching until it was too late, so to say. It wasn't like she would've fled if she had realized a lion was coming, of course. She absolutely love the life of a rogue, but not for it's solitude. She loved it for meeting new characters, making new friends, seeing new places, wandering without any strings attached. She certainly would've stayed right where she was, though she might've introduced herself a little better. Instead, when the lion spoke, she gave a very slight start. "Oh, hello." She turned her sparkling blue eyes on him. Wasn't he a bright fellow! And look at that, he had a pink hair tuft, just like her. In her mind, this could be the start of an excellent friendship what with their physical similarity.

As to what she was doing, wasn't that a long story? "Well, I was watching this tree." She looked back up at the root-like branches. "I was just sniffing something out and ended up here. It's wonderful, isn't it? It's the perfect plant." She looked back on the bright lion with a smile. It was such a very large tree, such a beautiful specimen of nature. Since her childhood had spent spent in the roguelands near the Pridelander borders, she had spent a majority of her time in large, flat expanses of treeless savannah. After that, she had made the Pridelands her home. Since then, she'd been traveling quite a bit, but had yet to come across such a large tree.

He smiled on instinct as she looked at him, his gruff greeting fading and his tail swishing behind him thoughtfully. He tilted his head, padding over to her, and the tree, so he could get a better look at both. He sat down, looking at the tree as the lioness explained her story.

"It's a beautiful tree," he agreed, looking up at it, "I haven't seen one this big in so long. It's huge! Have you tried to climb it yet? Seems a shame to scuff the bark on it, though." He hummed thoughtfully, purring softly.

He looked at her, smiling softly.

"You like plants? Not every day someone else even notices them, really. Not enough to sit and stare at one, anyway."

Intombi swished her tail over to make room for him, glad for the company. She sometimes went several days without much interaction beyond her prey. She'd been so spoiled in her time in the Pridelands, always having someone to talk to. It was nice, of course, to have some alone time. Some space. In fact, she'd learned over time that it was absolutely necessary. She used to sneak off to groom on her own, just so she could have her me-time. Now-a-days, though, she could grow lonely. She wouldn't trade what she had now for something else, but she did miss companionship.

"Yes." She murmured softly, returning her gaze to the massive tree. Huge, indeed. "Oh, no. I'm not much for climbing." She flexed her claws and wiggled her toes, looking down at them. Though they weren't good for climbing trees, her toes were a source of pride for her. Her most favorite aspect of her looks were her toe markings. She wiggled them again thinking of it. "And it's just so big, I didn't think I could get up there. Something is up there, though. Something small and furry." She'd almost forgotten about whatever it was she saw.

"Where I come from, I didn't have much like this. Just a lot of grass." She swirled her tail over the grass beside them for emphasis. Grass and heat and the sun and the sky. And she'd loved every bit of it.

He looked down at her toes, as well. He didn't see anything wrong with them, thinking they looked perfectly good for climbing, but if she didn't think so he could hardly argue with her. She knew better than he did, after all, since they were her paws.

"Small and furry?" He looked up at the tree, blinking.

He knew how to climb trees rather well, and he could do so, he believed, without causing much damage to the trunk itself. He moved to the tree, padding around it as if to size it up.

"I could go up there, if you'd like. Chase it down? You could get it." He looked at her, grinning. A little bit of tag teaming for sport sounded fun.

"Yes, small and furry." She nodded her agreement. She had seen it for only a small moment, and had already forgotten the coloring. Perhaps it was because it was close to the same color of the tree? She wasn't sure. Usually she was very adept at remembering what creatures looked like. She was very interested in her own looks - not really vain, but definitely confident and clean - so she noticed how others looked and was drawn to them for those reasons. Though, really, Intombi thought everything and everyone was beautiful.

"Oh! You can climb?" She looked at her company with new interest. When she was younger, she'd met someone who could climb. The idea had always fascinated her, especially since she didn't grow up around many trees. Now she'd met someone who not only liked trees but could climb them. He was turning out to be a very interesting character. "I don't know where it went off to for sure, but I know it hasn't come back down yet." Her eyes were shining at the idea now. This would be fun.

“I can!” He grinned. He didn’t think it was that big a deal, really. He thought everyone could climb, so the fact that she couldn’t fascinated him. He wasn’t sure why she wouldn’t have learned, though he didn’t ask. Maybe if he kept his question to himself, he would have an excuse to meet up with her again. A little one, and maybe not the best, but it was good enough for him.

Maybe it would be funny if he knew she was as interested in him knowing how to climb trees as he was her not knowing.

“Alright, I’ll go up there and see if I can’t scare it down.”

Fushigisou nodded, grinned at her confidently, then bounced at the tree. He scooted up the tree, trying his best not to scratch the bark off.

“Come out, come out whatever you are.”

"Alright!" Intombi squatted her body slightly, in preparation of catching something. She watched intently as her companion carefully clawed up the tree. It was interesting, she thought, how much power it took to propel upwards. Of course, it didn't surprise her. She was incapable of it, so she wasn't about to think it would be an easy task. The way that he just went on up there, though, made it almost seem like he was born to do it. Impressive. And... the lioness couldn't help to find herself admiring how strong he must be to do such a thing.

When he called out to whatever it was she saw, she refocused her attentions. Whatever it was had blended in nicely. It hadn't made a sound, either. It had simply stared at her with bright eyes and then disappeared when it realized it was being watched. She narrowed her own eyes to try and get a better look, but it was useless. The maze of branches and leaves completely blocked the critter from her view. "Do you see anything?" Her voice was a loud whisper - she didn't want to scare off their target, but she wanted to be sure she was heard.

Taurett had had a lovely day right up until now. She'd caught herself a nice, plump little rodent to eat, had found a wonderfully large tree to rest in, and had settled down for her meal. Then, that darned lioness had show up. It had sat there, staring up at her hiding place, as if it wanted her meal. She was absolutely positive the larger feline wanted to steal her hard work. Lions were well known scavengers and bullies, after all. And then, another one had shown up! Just her luck. She had hid quickly, retreating farther into the branches of the ancient tree, trying to hide from her new found competition. In her frenzy to hide, however, she had forgotten to take her meal with her.

Now, she was pressed against the back of a thick branch, balancing herself on a slightly smaller one. She hoped that her brown coat might hide her from the approaching lion, but it was seeming less possible the closer he got. And then she remembered her meal. There it was, on the second to lowest branch, ripe for the taking. She let out a squeeking sound when she realized it, and then immediately curled her tail around herself, eyes wide.

Fushigisou didn’t notice her watching him, thought he wouldn’t have minded it. He probably would have done the same thing if she had been the one climbing, after all.

“I don’t see anything yet,” he said, hearing her calling to him, though he tried to keep his voice down now. Maybe if they were quiet… of course, it wasn’t hard to see the giant blue and green lion in your small, comfortable home. Plus, he was rattling all the branches and leaves, which was hard to mask. If whatever it was didn’t know he was there by now, he would be very surprised.

“Oh!”

He didn’t see the smaller cat scoot off, but he did see the mouse she had left behind. He reached for the mouse, picking it up by the tail, then spotted the serval. He blinked, then grinned, “Helloph,” he said, with her food in his mouth, “isth this yoursph?”

Taurett squeeked when the green intruder picked up her rodent. She glared, her golden eyes flashing with her sudden temper flare. For a moment, she considered ambushing the giant beast that was taking away her hard earned meal. She had the upper hand - he had yet to see her. But then, alas, he found her. She pushed herself against the bark, glaring. "That's mine!" Her voice was shaking in response to his question. As to why he would bother to ask, she didn't have a clue. She was absolutely certain he would eat it on her. And then she might be next if she didn't get out of there.

With another squeek she lunged herself to a lower branch, quick as she could, practically falling down out of the tree. She landed on all fours with a thud, right in front of Intombi.

Intombi heard Fushigisou talking, but couldn't figure out who to. Perhaps he had found whatever was up there? She lifted her squatted body some, trying to catch a peak. That was when she saw a golden brown feline flying down the tree, really less climbing more falling with some grace. She resquatted, but this time it wasn't a hunting stance. She was trying to prepare for the oncoming impact. The serval didn't collide with her, though. She fell right in front of her.

The tan lioness's bright eyes widened in surprise. "Oh!" She giggled and cast a glance up for Fushigisou. "Look at that." She managed to get out in her laughter. "Well, you must be who I saw. Pleasure to meet you." She dipped her head in greeting, completely oblivious to the servals foul mood and mild panic.

Fushigisou, surprised by her yelping at him, drew his head back. His back foot slipped and he gripped the tree. "Ud oh," he said, looking down. He was slipping. He hoped he didn't fall off the tree and make a fool of himself.

Because he had a lady down there he was trying to impress.

He saw the small cat dart from the tree, and thought she was falling too. "Wath!" He yelped, letting go and following her, using her fall to justify his own. He would just say he was trying to catch her. Magically, all the while, he kept the mouse in his mouth.

He landed with a much greater thud just beyond where Taurett had landed, moving closer to her. She was now surrounded by two lions, it seemed.

"Be carphul," he warned, dipping his head to finally put the little mouse down, "she's not in a very friendly mood."

Intombi didn't notice Fushigisou's somewhat ungraceful depart from the tree limb. She was too focused on the serval infront of her. She did look up at him with a bit of confusion at the thud, though. This little brown feline was quite upset about something. What had happened up in that tree? A little concerned about a possible freak out on the little one's part, the lioness to a small step backwards. "Apparently not." Her eyes widened a little, staring at the angry critter. "What's wrong? Did we intrude on something?" She hated to think she had done something to her, even if unintentional. "Is this your home?" She cocked her head as if talking to a cub.

Taurett's eyes raced around her surroundings, looking for an exit plan. She about jumped back up the tree when the giant male thudded down near her. She took a step back against the tree, breathing faster. "Who are you?" Her voice was panicked. "What are you doing here?" She glared from the brown lioness to the blue lion, unsure of if she should take a run for it or stand and fight. When the brown one took a step back, she knew she had her chance. She watched her rodent drop from the blue one's mouth and hit the ground. As fast as she could, she raced forward, picked it up in her mouth, and darted back up the tree.

Once safely on a branch, she let go of her prize and huffed vigorously. What a day. What. A. Day.

Intombi stood stock still, staring up at the tree much like she had when she first came across it. Now, however, her look was not of admiration and respect, but of confusion and surprise. She blinked, slowly shook her head, and looked over at Fushigisou. "My goodness. What a fussy little thing she is." She hadn't ever expected any of this to happen when she'd come along the tree earlier. At most, she thought perhaps a bird or small climbing critter was up there. She hadn't even considered it'd be an angry, hissing serval. What a day.

Fushigisou watched as the little cat hissed and huffed at them. He lifted his paw when he saw her dart his way, thinking she was going to come and bite him or something, though she simply grabbed what was rightfully hers anyway and vanished up the tree. Sitting next to Intombi, he stared up at the tree with the exact same expression.

Sheer confusion.

"Well, I suppose a lion in your resting place is something to get mad about, but she sure didn't give us any chance to say we weren't in the mood to eat little cats." He looked at Intombi, then laughed when he saw she had been doing as he had.

What a day, indeed!

For Fushigisou it had been a good one. He had met this lovely brown lioness, climbed a wonderful tree, and had an interesting experience with a new cat. So an eventful day, but a good one. He smiled at her, flicking his tail, and hoping they would be able to spend more time together.

He wanted to get to know her better.
PostPosted: Fri Aug 20, 2010 2:14 pm

Intombi looked back at Fushigisou and laughed with him. Though she was maybe just a little offended that the little cat had thought they would hurt her, or take her rat (Intombi really didn't think she'd eat a rat unless she was extremely hungry, anyway), but it felt good to laugh at the situation. And at herself, for having been so excited to see the serval. Looking back on it, perhaps she wasn't quite as excited as she was before, but it had been an interesting experience none the less.

"I suppose so!" She laughed more, shooting a glance up the tree. She half expected that angry little cat to lunge out at them for laughing. "I've never met anything like her." She shook her head, her laughs trailing off into a simple smile. She also had met someone like Fushigisou in a while. He seemed completely willing to explore. It was a quality Intombi liked. Of course, she had only just met him. She was curious to know his other traits. Maybe she could stick around this area for a little while. She didn't like to say somewhere for too long, but she could manage a long enough visit to see him some more.
