 The gentle sound of a waterfall filled her mind as Nyota laid half asleep in what she thought was her den back home in the pride. The previous day she had spent with Tamu, skipping her lessons and going with him to see the pond with the waterfall. They never did make it to the cave as they hours had slipped by quickly after swimming in the pond and exploring the area around it. Shifting a bit to get in a more comfortable position Nyota refused to wake up just yet, the waterfall kept her lulled in that half sleep, even though her ears flicked about listening for the sounds of the others in the pride.
Her nose bumped against some fur and at first she thought it was one of her sisters crowing her in the den. Paw moved up to push the annoyance away and her eye cracked open just a bit. The flood of blue, brown and white that hit her eyes told her that she was in fact not in her den at home and instantly her eyes shot open fully. Oh god, she had just spend the night away from the pride...and with Tamu. Not that she minded spending time with her friend, but the thought was a bit shocking to wake up to. Getting to her feet quickly Nyota started pacing, oh her mother would kill her for sure. Bringing her paws to a stop she lowered her head and pushed her nose again Tamu's big mane trying to wake him. "Tamu. Tamu wake up!"

 Tamu snored slightly as someone shifted against him and curled up tighter in an effort not to awake just yet - Tamu was not a morning lion and really given the chance he would sleep until the sun was well risen in the sky. Of course it didn't look like that was going to happen today since someone was pushing against him and telling him to wake up. "Ugh..go away Wingu I don't care about whatever you've seen in the sky" He told what he believed to be his meddlesome brother and drawing in a deep breath of annoyance.
It was drawing in the breath that alerted him to the fact that it was in fact not Wingu bothering him but a girl. Not just any girl but Nyota. Snapping his head up he looked at her and then outside. "What time is it..did we sleep to long? Oh gods your mother is going to kill me! She's probably looking for you right now!"A slight note of panic entered his voice. Sure he had never met Nyota's mother but he'd heard allot about her and that was enough to inspire terror on his part.

"Yes we slept too long!" She snapped at him, more out of fear than anger. Oh this was a disaster! She would get a tongue lashing from her mother, and probably more, and Tamu, poor Tamu he was in for it if Maua ever found him. The pacing started up again as she tried to work out a solution to the problem. Was it truly a problem? Well yes, but at the same time no. She liked spending time with Tamu and besides they were both adults, well he was an adult - and she almost was. So that had to count for something right? Noble thinking started to kick in, one thing she had from her father was a quick mind and a way to think out of sticky situations.
"It's okay...it's okay..." She still paced but her voice was beginning to calm. "We can just explain that I came out to see you, there's no harm in that." Well there was, but she was trying to be positive. "And we came to see the waterfall. And...and I spent the night here...with you, a fully grown male." She almost said handsome male but that wouldn't help the situation right now. Okay maybe she didn't have this whole thinking things out down pat yet. Giving Tamu a sheepish smile she wasn't sure what to say, he was her closest friend and she didn't want him in trouble because of her rebellious nature.

"An adult rogue..male" He felt the need to point out because heck things were already bad, why not make them worse. Nyota's calming down however helped Tamu do the same and he took a couple quick breaths to hurry that process along even more while he thoughts things through. He wasn't upset to have spent the night with Nyota...quite the opposite but he didn't want to think of the trouble she would get into for having done so.
"Okay..okay, so it sounds bad but no harm right? I mean your going to get home safe and sound. I bet they'll be so happy to see you safe that thy won't even care about the other details" Okay..long shot there but you know it sounded good. He'd be happy to have his son or daughter return safely if they had been gone all night wouldn't he? Of course he would..you now if he ever had cubs...

Nyota ignored the bit where he added the fact that he was a rogue into the equation. "Right, no harm done. Just two lions spending some time together, that happens all the time. Besides," she added as her paws finally came to a stop as the pacing was no longer required. "...it's not like we did anything bad out here." They just went swimming, explored the area and then fell asleep...right? She couldn't remember anything else.
Letting out a huff she looked over at Tamu with half a smile. "Oh yes, they will be happy to see their rebel of a daughter return after spending the night with a rogue." There was a lot of sarcasm in her voice but she knew that if she hadn't said that the fear would come back. Sighing she shock her head. "Maybe we should head back, before they do come and find us." Turning she padded a bit away from him, but once again that rebellious spirit kicked in, and she looked back at him with a devious smile on her maw. "Or maybe we should just go to those caves you told me about yesterday. I mean we are already in trouble, better milk it for all it's worth."

Tamu's paws shifted lightly as Nyota recounted their night together, it sounded pretty close to right and he didn't want to go back and make her all worried again so he let it go for now. Really were those details even important anyways? It didn't seem like those details were all that important right now anyways right?
He couldn't help but smile at her sarcasm, typical Nyota...but he was sure that in their hearts of hearts Nyota's parents would be happy to see her safe no matter how much trouble she caused them. "Uh you sure they won't just track us down and beat the snot out of me?" He asked her with a slight laugh - though he was partway serious. "I suppose it's on the way...well not really but we can pretend.."

"Well, if they are looking for us you will be in trouble whether I go straight home or not." She pointed out, and honestly she was in no hurry to get home. It would mean yelling, more yelling, perhaps being grounded again, guards alerted to stop her from leaving and to top it off even more yelling. Sure she was used to that routine, but then again she had never spent the night away from the pride so the punishment was probably more severe this time around. Giving a shrug she turned and began to walk off again knowing that Tamu would follow. And he did.
It was a bit of a walk to get to the caves but it gave Nyota time to think, and think she needed to. Her mind raced to recall all the details of just what happened. She had to make sure she got her story straight for when she saw her parents. So deeply in thought that Nyota was only half paying attention to where her paws were taking her. When she bumped lightly into Tamu as he came to a stop at the entrance of the den she jumped a bit in surprise. Settling down again Nyota let her eyes roam the cave entrance, it wasn't as spectacular as the waterfalls but still special in its own way. "Wow." She finally managed to say as her eyes swept over rocks that glissened in the sunlight.
But then something was nagging at the back of her mind, something about last night. "Tamu..." She said as her eyes moved to her friend. "Did we..." Her head shook stopping her from asking, she was pretty sure she knew the answer. "Forget it." Turning her attention back to the cave she sighed, this was probably the last thing she would see before her parents killed her. "Thank you for taking me here." She said and without really thinking nuzzled his neck.

The walk to the cave was relatively silent,Tamu has slowly taken the lead so that they went in the right direction and on the few times he had looked backward's to see what Nyota was doing her face looked so utterly pensive and deep in thought that he never wanted to pester her by asking what she was thinking about. He had a pretty good idea anyways.
"It's pretty isn't it?" He asked her after peering into the cave himself, he wasn't going to tell her but sometimes he spent the night in this cave. He was afraid that telling her such would only make her sad that she never got that sort of freedom herself. In any case it seemed she still had other thoughts on her mind and he opened his mouth to answer her when she changed her mind and...nuzzled him. Any previous thoughts he'd had flew completely out the window at this attention and he instinctively nuzzled her back a deep rumble building in his chest before he managed to respond to her "Your welcome...I'll always take you anywhere you want to go" He promised her.

Her heart did this interesting little flutter when Tamu nuzzled her back. She certainly hadn't expected that to happen, of course she also hadn't expected her to nuzzle him or for the events of last night to occur, but she was happy with them. And that small promise that he would always take her anywhere she wanted to go meant the world to her. No one else had ever given her the freedom to choose, well perhaps her father every now and then, but even he was still bound by the rules or the pride and only let her get away with so much. Slowly pulling her head back Nyota once again looked upon the cave with the shining rocks.
It certainly was beautiful and she could only hope that if both her and Tamu survived what was to come when her parents finally found her that he would bring her to other places like this in the future. Special places, for her. Taking a few steps into the cave Nyota glanced back at Tamu with a smile before going a bit further in. Even here when the light wasn't as bright as at the mouth of the cave the rocks still sparkled. There was nothing like this in the prides lands. "Tamu, this is wonderful." She said in a quiet tone, though it echoed through the cave.

Tamu smiled as she looked back to the cave, slowly following her inside to gaze upon the glittering bis himself. "I've never seen them anywhere else" He told her "I mean they feel like rocks...and taste like them" He admitted sheepishly "But...they don't really look like them do they?" He asked her.
Clearly they were some sort of rare special rock and Tamu was more then glad to have something so neat to share with Nyota, well at least until her parents showed up and murdered him he thought wryly. He had no idea jut how much his promise meant to her however - sure he'd meant it and he'd live up to it but he was used to having his freedom and didn't quite understand just how important it was to her.

"You've tasted them?" She asked with a laugh. Nyota would never consider tasting rocks to see if they were truly different from the dull boring rocks that seemed to be everywhere else. "No, they certainly don't look like any rock I've seen before." Glacning over at Tamu for a moment Nyota quickly diverted her eyes back to the rocks. She wanted to say something, but thought he would think her foolish for it. The waterfalls, this cave, the glittering rocks, their time together last night, she didn't want it to end.
Letting out a sigh she stared at the rocks to her left, which effectively left her looking away from Tamu but it was the only way she could find the courage to speak. "Tamu..." She began, and it felt odd that for once in her life she was scared about the unknown. "...I don't want to go back. Can't I just stay..." Forcefully she turned her head to look at him, and probably for the first time in her life her face and eyes held a completely serious expression. "...stay with you?"

"Well I just licked them once" He admitted with a slight smile, he'd been curious and quite a bit younger then for some reason his young mind had thought they might be different but really they just tasted like dirt...and every other rock laying about. Which of course had just made them all the more mysterious.
Her next words well they didn't exactly shock him persay, he knew how unhappy she was in her pride and had always thought she might leave someday...though he had never thought she might want to leave with him. "Of course you can1" He told her firmly crossing he distance between them in several quick strides and shoving his head into hers in a rough but emotional nuzzle, of course he wanted her to stay with him and of course he would welcome her along in his travels...but..and there always seemed to be a but.."But...would they let you? are you sure you want to leave your siblings. I don't want to take you away from your life in the Pride, it is safer even if you hate it...I could join? I know I won't ever be anything there because I'm not purple but...we could ee each other more.."

Nyota pressed her head against his, nuzzling it affectionately letting a purr rumble in her throat. She had never imagined the old cub she met on an adventure outside the prides lands could possibly become more than just a friend, but it felt right, so very right. And then the 'but' came and she pulled away a bit. "You know they would never let me leave, especially for..." She shook her head, but Nyota was certain he was know that she meant to say for a 'rogue like you' but just didn't want to say it. Tamu was so much more to her than just a rogue.
"My siblings...I would miss them, but they all are good nobles and I know they get annoyed by my actions." There had been many fights in the past with her siblings over her acting out all the time so her relationship with them wasn't as close as it could be. "What life in the pride?" She questioned him almost angrily. "There is nothing for me there except for lessons and boring lectures from my parents and the walls of the den...which by the way I can tell you every single mark on every inch of those walls from all the times I spent staring at them whenever I was grounded."
Flopping onto her backside Nyota let out a sigh. "I don't want you to join. Not that i don't want to spend more time with you, but do you really think it's a good idea? My mother would certainly convince the King you were no good and then what would happen? You could be exiled or forced to work as a slave, then I would never see you again." Plus she loved the thrill it gave her to sneak out to see him.

Tamu smiled kindly, but sadly at his friend - he hadn't really wanted to join the pride anyways and he'd known that Nyota's mother probably was vindictive enough to jut what Nyota said she would. None the less it didn't leave them with very many options "Well...that leaves us pretty much with the ways things are right now" He told her in a gentle voice "You can't leave and I can't join and ever be anything more then a stepping stone for your angry mother"
They could run away of course but they'd have to run and run and run o very far that her parent would never track them down. It would be hard and dangerous and Tamu wasn't sure he was willing to risk Nyota in such a venture. "Perhaps thing will change" He offered "Soon your mother won't have any say over you anymore and the guards won't be able to stop you from leaving..you'll be a full adult lioness and you will have more freedom" ...Hopefully was the bit he did not tack onto the end of course.

"I like it the way it is now." She admitted somewhat sheepishly. The rush of adrenaline to sneak out, never knowing what would happen, the adventure just begging for her to come back for him. "But maybe we can try to do this more often." It was worded as a suggestion but her tone indicated more of a demand than anything else. His words, while not overly encouraging, did give her a bit of hope. When she was an adult her mother wouldn't be able to stop her, it was certainly something to look forward to. True freedom, something she had yet to experience.
Stepping forward once more she nuzzled Tamu and then gave him an affectionate lick on the cheek. "We better head back." She said with a sigh. "But promise me, that you will meet me at our spot as often as you can." Nyota was certain that when she got home she would be confined to her den for a good amount of time, but eventually the guards would lose interest in watching her like they always did and then she would be able to slip free. "And I will try to get there as soon as I can." Tamu certainly knew she would be in trouble to so sneaking out right away would be next to impossible.
Taking a step back Nyota took one last look around the cave, glanced at Tamu with a smile then turned and padded off. So much had happened over the last two days that her mind was thoroughly racing with everything that she had said and done. Life had funny ways of changing things and this time it was for the better. She looked over her shoulder to ensure Tamu was following.
