Guinevere had taken a trip into Durem to shop for groceries this rainy Sunday. She was trying to learn how to cook well, and the recipe that she was trying to make today called for some ingredients that they didn't sell in the grocery store in town. She had found what she needed, but she had taken the bus since she was going to have plenty of bags to carry back home. The next bus wasn't coming for at least an hour, which gave her plenty of time to kill. Though she came into Durem for work, of course, she had never really just walked around and let herself sightsee, so she didn't let the opportunity pass her by, wandering around the sleepy evening streets and peering in the windows of the shops. There were pretty things, things that Guinevere couldn't afford to buy for herself, but she figured that looking was free.
She paused in front of one store and went inside for a moment, folding her umbrella as she stepped through the door. Once she was in, she looked around and bit her lip. The pet store was big and full of toys, but she was sure she could find something that her cat would like to play with. Pucci wasn't by nature a kittenish animal, but she figured if it had catnip in it, he'd be happy enough.

Fiona, Cassie, and Samantha had all piled into Cassie's pick up, plus a very happy mongoose. Sandy the mongoose was wiggling all over the back seat, moving from one window to the other then to Fiona then back to the windows. It wasn't often that she got to go for rides, and this was why. She was a total spaz. The gang of gals didn't really need to go to the store, but Fiona had broken the pet brush and insisted that Sandy get to pick out a new one. Shortly after Guinevere started her shopping, a short orange haired child with orange and black stripped wings was tugged through the door by a mongoose who was on the other end of the leash she held tightly in both hands, "Saaandy! Slow down!" cried the shrill voice of the orange converse, mix match sock wearing herald as the critter pulled her along.
She was soon followed by a red head who caught the child before she fell on her face, and a third woman with sandy blond hair who couldn't stop laughing, until she noticed Guinevere. She stopped laughing so not to bother the shops other customer.

Guinevere was not entirely unused to the sound of laughter being cut off when people saw her, but that wasn't so much her fault as her wings looking like they had been stabbed by a couple of idle ninjas. She wasn't particularly bothered by it, but it always interested her to see the kind of people who were. Invariably they were humans, most of the time humans new to Gaia. This time though, she was in for a surprise, because there was a girl with wings in the suddenly-somber party.
The girl's wings had tiger stripes, which was somewhat apt for a pet store, and though the strange colour didn't necessarily signify her being a Herald, odd wings always prompted Guinevere to ask.
"I'm terribly sorry, but your daughter, is she a Herald?" she asked, standing on tiptoe over the shelves where she had been craning to see the pair. "I noticed her wings, you see. I'm a Herald, and I study them, so..." Guinevere always felt awkward asking, but she liked knowing more about Heralds. She didn't know much about her past, so she made up for it by learning all she could about anything else available, and her ethnicity was one of her favourite things to explore.
