Tibuka had told her to get lost for a while, so Fido actually got a break from being her usual, submissive self. Now she was behaving more like her old self, the one that had once lived with humans. Th little hyena was happily trotting about, tongue a bone in her teeth and shaking her head around. She was having fun by herself, jumping on just about everything she could find and pouncing at butterflies. It was all very wonderful!

Until she jumped up on an old, rotting fallen tree and fell through. Apparently, it had been hollow. And now she was stuck. The hyena frowned, dropping her bone and looking down. She couldn't really move her paws out of the wood. Hm. Well, that was a problem. After struggling around a bit, Fido did what any one would do in this situation. (Or, well, what she thought everyone would do, anyways.) She flopped her head down against the bark and whined.

Oh, woe is me!

He had been traveling, heading back home to his mate. She had been depressed lately, and they had spoken of cubs.. Something he wasnt against, and would welcome with open paws. But he needed to be with her, and never leave her alone too long. Ellie had a bad habit of getting in her sad state when she was alone. He hated seeing her that way.

He was so close to home.. So close.. Until he heard the pitiful whining. He stopped, and an ear flicked a little as he merely stared in the direction it was coming from. He hadnt ever heard whining like that, he wasnt quite sure what was making the noise. However he shrugged it off, and began walking towards the noise.

Now..this made sense. A hyena was stuck in a hollow log that looked like it had been rotting for awhile. She had made the mistake of crawling on top of it. He shook his head and walked closer.. How would he actually HELP someone stuck like that?

Fido was very busy in her whining routine, ears low and looking just as miserable as can be. Especially since her bone had rolled away too far for her to reach, so she didn't even have anything to chew on to pass the time! She stared down at it mournfully. Oh, cruel world! Or, perhaps the world wasn't that cruel. She saw movement from the corner of her eyes and was hopeful. Maybe it was Tibuka! He'd save her!

Sadly, when she looked up she saw a lion. Fido wasn't used to seeing lions, and from the way Tibuka reacted to them, they weren't pleasant. Her single close encounter with them certainly hadn't been!

Of course, on her own, Fido couldn't manage to work up anger or defensiveness. So she just whined. "Pleeaaaase don't eat me!"

He snorted, wrinkling his nose when she began begging him not to eat her. Now he may have been hungry, but eating a hyena was never once on his mind. He wasnt even sure they would taste all that good.
He shook his head, orange mane falling into his eyes. He shook his mane back out and chuckled lowly in his throat. More of an annoyed chuckle than one that was actually amused.

"Why in the hell would I eat you? You dont exactly look good." He said, looking her over, and then to the bone that had rolled in front of her. He saw her look back towards it and shook his head again. What an odd creature. He didn thave much experience with Hyenas, but this one was quite odd.

"Are you in need of help?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.

She looked confused, and, despite herself, managed to feel slightly offended. Didn't look good? Of course, Fido's version of offended was just a sadface. She was almost apologetic that she didn't look good to eat. But, she comforted herself with the idea that she wouldn't get eaten, at least. "I dunno. I eat things if I'm hungry! Don't you? " It seemed like a pretty obvious answer. She would probably eat a lion too, if it were dead.

"Um. I think so. Probably. " She frowned, tilting her head down at the log. Yes, this was the sort of situation that one would usually want help in. "I can't get my paws out! " She stated this with strange happiness, at how smart she was for figuring out her problem.

He looked at her in an odd way, seeing her face turn sad when he told her she didnt look good to eat. He wasnt even sure he would eat a canine if he were hungry. He just didnt think the sound of that was very interesting. But he shrugged and nodded.
"I eat when Im hungry, but I eat food meant to be food. From the looks of you, canine, you are not something to be eaten, same as.. Im really not." He grinned.

He put on a focused look, walking closer to the log. He wasnt sure really HOW to free her, and that made him irritated. Grabbing the bone in his mouth, he came up with an idea. If he kicked at hte wood with his own paw, he could get stuck.. So he began pushing in the wood with the bone, in an attempt for her leg to be freed.

Fido shrugged slightly. He probably had a point. It might be a little awkward to eat a lion. Lions were the sort of things that you could talk to. And she was sure you could talk to prey animals too, if you tried, but it was still just best not to talk to them. You gotta eat, right?

She smiled happily once he grabbed the bone, under the impression the the lion would return it to her. That would have been the best kind of assistance! ... Wait, why was he poking the log with her bone? "Whachoo doing? "

[Omg I just went AWWWW xDDD]

He didnt respond, but continued pushing into the wood with the bone. If he could get another piece from around her leg to fall through, she would be able to free her leg. He pushed harder, and finally a chunk around one side of her leg fell in. She had plenty of room to remove her paw, and he was quite proud of himself for having thought of such a creative way to get her out.

"Freeing you silly." He said, once he had put the bone down at his paws, and looked back up at her. He wondered if it would take her long to realize she was free, but he gave a smile anyway. He was proud. Not every day he could save something from danger.. and now it looked like she was just happy to have her bone, stuck or not.

(( Rofl xD Happy to amuse! ))

Somehow, Fido managed to watch the entire process but not relate it to her current situation. Instead, her attention was focused entirely on the bone, waiting for him to give it back to her. she missed her bone. It was a good bone. Nice and chewable.

When he was done and sat back, she still stared at the bone at his paws until her spoke. "Oh, really? How are you gonna do that? " She asked, curiously. Of course Fido hadn't noticed she was free. Well, at least she wasn't too slow, soon she looked down and realized she could move her paw. "Hey! I'm free! " She exclaimed, lifting a front paw through the hole and hoisting herself out. "That's cool! Thank you! "

........

Would he let her have her bone back?

He grinned, shaking his head a little. She may have been slower, but she was amusing. He had to say he had never met anyone quite like her. He smiled, lifting her bone off the earth.

He held it out to her, waiting for her to take it from him. He wasnt going to take it from her, not when she seemed so intent on getting it back. He had only needed the thing as a tool, and once that was done, he was happy to give it back.

"Youre welcome. Glad I could help. Just.. do me a favor and dont go leaping on any rotting logs anymore, okay?" He asked, smiling.

Fido waited patiently to learn the fate of her bone, but grabbed it quite quickly one it was offered, an expression of pure joy on her face. "Thankyou! " Now that she had the bone, it wasn't quite as wonderful as she'd hoped, but still quite great. She tilted her head at his request. "Why wouldn't I jump on logs? "

Sometimes jumping on them was fun. She glanced back at the one she was rcently freed from. "... Oh, right. Okay! "

He shook his head, hoping he didnt have to save her later on down the road. Or.. that if something happened, someone was there to save her.

"Next time you might not be as lucky, Pup." He responded, giving her a smile, and flicking his tail to and fro. He didnt mind being around her, and though she should have annoyed him.. She didnt.

"So be careful..." He began, waiting for her to say her name. Wasnt it good to know the others name?

Next time? Fido was quite sure she didn't plan on a next time. Then again, she hadn't planned a first time, either. "Oh! My name isn't pup. It's Fido! " She did fill in with her name, but perhaps not as a response to what he had been thinking about. Silly lion, thinking her name was Pup! She wondered if she had given him the wrong impression.

"What's your name, mister? "
PostPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 11:30 am

He grinned, and bowed his head in greeting as she said her name. Fido. That seemed to fit her. He hadnt really thought her name was pup, but he knew that was beyond something he should explain and just let it be.

"Names Betta. Pleasure to meet you, Fido," He said with a nod of his head.

"Its good to meetcha too, Betta!" She honestly couldn't complain. Not that Fido was even capable of complaining, at this point. He had saved her from ye awful hyena-eating log, after all.

"Hey." She began, suddenly seeming to realize maybe she was forgetting something. "Hold on." ....... Was she forgetting anything. "Do I have to go somewhere now?" Hmmmm.
