Summoning Contracts

In this thread you will learn how to create a summoning contract, get one and use it. This also lists the current summoning contracts floating around in the Hidden Villages that are available to obtain, should you meet the requirements. It is divided in 5 subsections, listed as follows:

1 - Basics of Summoning
2 - Obtaining a contract for a character
3 - Making a summoning contract
4 - Using the Summoning Technique
5 - Approved contracts

With that said, please read on and follow the rules of the contracts. Thank you, and enjoy roleplaying!

Basics of Summoning

First of all, you will need an original idea for the type of summon you would like to create for a character or clan. Various types of summoning contracts have been displayed in the Naruto universe:

- Individual animals (example: Sarutobi's monkey King Enma, Tsunade's slug Katsuyu, Gai's ninja turtle Ningame)
- Animal families (example: Orochimaru's snakes, Jiraiya's toads)
- Mythical beings (example: Tayuya's three sound driven demons, Danzou's chimeara Baku)
- Objects (example: Orochimaru's gates, Pein's demonic statue)
- Families of objects (example: Ibiki's torture instruments (torture chamber and iron maiden))

So as you can see, the type of summonings that can be made are diverse and limited practically only by a person's imagination.

Summoning contracts, in addition to enabling someone to summon creatures, may also enable them to use special techniques unique to the subject of his summoning that cannot be copied by individuals who did not take part in the contract. These can be very simple such as summoning snakes out of your sleeve to attack an enemy or can be a lot more complex such as summoning animal intestines to cover a combat field or even altering your appearance to gain attributes from a creature.

Keep in mind that this contract, as long as your character is alive and active, will only be able to be used by people he allows to sign it or, in some cases, it may be an open contract to members of a specific clan. However, the fact that someone has a contract for, example, a family of animals, does not mean no one else can have summoning contracts for animals of this type. They will, however, have to be distinguishable by their nature or personality.

Example: Masanori has signed a contract in Kirigakure with the Royal King Crabs of the Water country who are a very noble family focused on charisma and taijutsu. However, Hitsugaya, in Amegakure, would also like to make a contract with crabs. He can make one, however, they will have to be different in personality, background, and techniques. If Hitsugaya was a somewhat brutal and mean individual, he will probably be a better fit for a group called the Rain's assassin Crabs who are focused on stealth and dexterity.

For the number of contracts a shinobi can sign, the number will be limited to two. We understand that there is technically no limit to how many a user can be a part of, but since there have been practically no instances of shinobis being part to more than two contracts, you will need permission from your kage and justification to sign additional ones (example: summoning specialized clan). We encourage you, however, to develop a single contract further rather than signing two without any apparent reason for your character.

Obtaining a contract for a character

This step has been specifically posted before creating a contract as it is something that must be considered before posting something in the Clans, jutsus, weapons and bloodlines subforum. There are two possibilities here, depending on your situation:

1. Your character is either part of a clan that has an open contract saved for it or knows someone who owns a contract he would be compatible with and that is willing to share with him.

If this is the case, your situation is fairly simple. Learn the Summoning Technique {Kuchiyose no jutsu} and you will be able to summon and use techniques as you meet the specified requirements for each level. It is still suggested, however, that you create additional individuals or objects to summon yourself since two people cannot summon the same individual at the same time.

So, you can just sign the contract and get on with your RP but it is strongly suggested you go ahead and read the part in the contract creation post about creating individuals for contracts.

2. Your character wishes to obtain a new contract.

If this is the case, there will be three things you will need to do. The first and most important will be to inform your kage. When this is done, steps will be taken to learn the Kuchiyose no jutsu and sign the contract in question.

I. Contact your village's kage or the person responsible for you or your squad's missions.

May it be before or after learning the summoning technique, a mission will have to be undergone to gain the trust, loyalty or lease on the subject of your summoning. These will highly vary depending on the nature of your summon but, in all cases, you will need someone to prepare a mission for you to successfully complete.

When you contact your kage, explain what you want your summon to be, what their characteristics are and give a brief idea for the mission your character could have to go through to sign it. This way, not only will he have time to prepare a proper mission for you but he may also give some advice on how to make your contract or review certain aspects of your idea so that it will be conform to the rules and guidelines for clans and, this way, get your contract approved faster.

Note: Kages are very busy people, so it may be awhile before you are given the mission and training required to use your contract scroll. We ask that you please be patient for our reply.

II. Learning Kuchiyose no jutsu (Summoning Technique)

Obviously, the technique must be mastered for your character to be able to summon anything. This step can be done before or after signing a contract. If no contract has been signed and a character uses the summoning technique, he will be sent to the land of the creatures or objects for which he has the greater affinity to. This may be a good start for a summoning mission, but, again, your kage has to have been notified of this so he can actually make you go through the mission.

III. Signing the summoning contract

At the end of your mission, you will have to sign the contract you have created. There are many ways this can be done but all involve the use of the person's blood for the signature. Sometimes the signature can be done on a paper scroll, sometimes by applying a tattoo, this is solely left to your creativity.

Making a summoning contract

There are three parts to making a summoning contract. You must define the nature of your contract, what are its individual summons, and what are the unique jutsus associated to it.

I. Nature of the contract

The first thing you will need to post when you will want to get a contract approved is the following:

Name of the contract:
Nature of the summons:
Description:
Origin:
Signature form:
Physical requirements:
Psychological requirements:

Name of the contract: What is at the top of contract? For example, Jiraiya's contract contract would most likely be called The Mount Myoboku Toads.
Nature of the summons: Basically, what do you summon? Is it Gerbils? Golems? Perfumes?
Description: What are these summons like? Do they have specific physiological or psychological traits? Are they more of an aggressive or passive nature? This is where you explain what your summons are about.
Origin: Where do you summon them from? What is that place like? Is there an access to it from a specific village?
Signature form: How do you "sign" the contract? Is it putting your name on a scroll? Is it a tattoo? Scarification? Only requirement is that it involves the user's blood.
Physical requirements: Are there required stats to sign the contract? A specific affinity? Do you need to know a particular skill? (The answer to this one can be "none")
Psychological requirements: What kind of shinobi would they allow to sign their contract and therefore obey. Do they respect strength? A sense of justice? Rank? Do they have any quirks or special requirements? Do they simply have an allegiance to a special clan? Know that if someone signs a contract when they do not meet the demanded psyche profile, the summons will refuse to obey the user on the battlefield.

II. Summons

There are various levels of summons, which are usually similar to ninja ranks. The level of your summons will obviously determine the chakra cost and requirements that have to be met to summon them. Depending on the nature of your contract, how you create and classify your summons will be done differently.

Objects and weapons:

For these, the level will be determined by the strength and effect of the objects. Use common sense. An armor that has 500 hp would not be a rank 1 summon...

It is hard to make a generalized sheet for these kinds of summons since they can be very diverse, but it should look like something along these lines:

Name:
Type:
Rank:
Description:
Cp cost to summon: (see below)
In-Game Stats: Does it have Hp? Does it have attack rating?
Cp: (if applies)
Damage: (if applies)
Special: (if applies)

Characters or creatures:

For these, you must fill a sheet similar to the one you make when creating a character. The points you have to distribute vary on the level of summons you wish to make:

Stats:

Level 01-10: base points 01, distribution points [level x 8] + 10
Level 11-up: base points 06, distribution points [level x 6] +10

Skills:

Total skill points = [summon's level x 8] + 10

Jutsus:

All summons start with regular academy jutsus to which you add a number of jutsus depending on their level. This number of extra jutsus is determined by the following rule:

Number of jutsus = [summon's level / 5 (rounded up to closest full value)] + 1.

Example:

Your summon is level 6. His number of non academy jutsus will be:
[6 / 5 (rounded up to closest full value)] + 1
6 divided by 5 = 1.2
1.2 rounded up to the closest full value is 2.
Which means starting number of non academy jutsus will be = [2] + 1 = 3 jutsus.

Basically, what this means it that the number of starting jutsus for a creature will be determined like this:

Levels 01 - 05: academy jutsu + 2 other jutsu
Levels 06 - 10: academy jutsu + 3 other jutsu
Levels 11 - 15: academy jutsu + 4 other jutsu
Levels 16 - 20: academy jutsu + 5 other jutsu
and so on..

Creature Traits

Now that you've determined what the nature of your contract is, you need to determine what sets these summons apart from others, both as a group and individually. Many factors can influence a summon's nature and physiognomy, and therefore, its stats. In order to simplify classification, we've separated these in three groups: creature types, physiological characteristics, and summon's size.

Creature Type:

Every creature is made to strive in a particular environment. Birds are in the sky, pigs are on land and fishes dwell in the seas. Any creature's body is made to be at its maximum efficiency in its natural habitat. Therefore, most creatures sharing similar environments will have similar physical adaptations.

Keep in mind that the summon types listed here are not the only ones that can exist; but are the ones that will most commonly be found. You may have a new one approved for your contract, and, once it is, it will be added to this list.

Aquatic
User Image
Summon is a sea creature only capable of navigating water.
Rank: Ability, passive
Special:
*Summon can only move underwater.
*Summon can breathe underwater.
*Summon can only attack targets who are on or under water.
*Increase Melee Attack Bonus, Dodge Rating, Reflex and any check related to underwater movement by 30% when underwater.

Marine
User Image
Summon is a creature able to walk on land effectively but is nevertheless physiologically made to spend significant periods of time underwater.
Rank: Ability, passive
Special:
*Decrease DCs to hold breath by 50%.
*Decrease Base Attack Bonus, Dodge Rating, Reflex and any check related to land movement by 20% when on land.
*Increase Base Attack Bonus, Dodge Rating, Reflex and any check related to underwater movement by 20% when underwater.

Aerial
User Image
Summon is a creature adapted for flight. It's light volumic mass gives it the ability to soar the skies; but the physical adaptations required to achieve such an ability also make it more brittle.
Rank: Ability, passive
Special:
*Summon can achieve flight at the cost of one attack turn (dice roll).
*Every time summon swoops in on an enemy for a physical attack, it must use an attack turn (dice roll) to return to the skies.
*If in flight, summon can only be target of long ranged attacks and jutsus.
*If in flight, summon cannot be hopped on by hostiles unless they too are in flight or have a platform from which to jump on.
*Increase Dodge Rating and Reflex when in flight by 20%.
*Reduce hp by 40%. Apply penalty after size bonuses.

Physiological Characteristics:

Once a global category has been determined for your summons based on their general habitat, you may now add specific attributes that reflect their unique species or physiognomy. For example, a turtle has a shell that makes it tougher but less nimble, a cheetah's body is very light making it adapted for speed but less durable, etc. Basically, this is a physical characteristic that will alter your summon's stats. Note that not all summons will have such characteristics and that the principle that should guide you here is balance. The basic principle that all evolution is compromise applies as much here as it does in nature!

Kikkou (Tortoise Shell)
User Image
Summon has an extremely solid exosquelettal shell covering its back and thorax, greatly increasing its durability but inevitably hindering its agility.
Rank: Ability, passive
Special:
*Increase Constitution by 25%.
*Decrease Dexterity by 40%.
*Natural armor bonus to Dodge and Reflex of [Level / 2].

Creature sizes:

Now that the specific characteristics of your summons as a group have been determined, you may now establish your individual summon's size. This factor will inevitably have an impact on your summon's stats, as well as, in some cases, its summoning cost. Note that not all summons in the same summoning contract have to be of the same size and that, like for all things, different summon sizes could be approved and added to this list if they do not yet exist.

Small
User Image
The summon is very small and light, allowing it to be carried by a person during combat. It's size, though making it easy to carry, also makes this summon more brittle.
Rank: Ability, passive
Special:
*Can "ride" or be carried by a person.
*While it is carried, replace summon's dodge rating and reflex by the carrier's.
*If target of a physical attack or jutsu, the summon can add its dodge rating to the carrier's for a single attack, but will have to hop off.
*If pushed off or jumped off the carrier, summon must use one attack turn (dice roll) to jump back on.
*Reduce constitution by 30%.
*Reduce strength by 30%.

Human Sized
User Image
The summon is about the size of a regular sized human being, making more versatile than creatures of other sizes.
Rank: Ability, passive
Special:
*No special effect.

Large
User Image
The summon is larger than a regular person, making it possible for a person to be carried by it or ride it, and making it stronger and tougher.
Rank: Ability, passive
Special:
*May only be summoned outside or in a large room.
*Can be rode or can carry a person. Summon suffers a -5 to dodge rating and reflex while ridden or carrying someone.
*While he or she is carried, replace user's dodge rating by the summon's.
*If target of a physical attack or jutsu while riding, the person can add his or her dodge rating to the summon's for a single attack, but will have to hop off.
*If pushed off or jumped off the summon, the person must use one attack turn (dice roll) to jump back on.
*Increase constitution by 50%.
*Increase chakra by 50%.
*Increase strength by 50%.
*Increase summoning cp cost by 50%.

Gigantic
User Image
The summon is extremely large, making it extremely strong and durable.
Rank: Ability, passive
Special:
*May only be summoned outside or in an extremely large room.
*Can be rode or can carry a person.
*While he or she is carried, add user's dodge rating to the summon's for any attack originating from off of the summon.
*If an attacker lands a physical attack on the summon, he can forego the damage and decide to hop on the summon instead in order to attack the rider directly.
*While rode, the summon can try to shake the rider(s) off at the cost of one attack turn (dice roll). Every time it does, riders must succeed an Acrobatics check of [d20 + Summon's Athletics] or fall off.
*While a hostile is riding the summon, if the summon has arms or appendages that can reach its head or back, it can try to swipe the hostile off at the cost of one attack turn (dice roll), calculated like any regular attack. If succesful, the attack damage is reduced by 75% and the hostile is brushed off.
*If pushed off or jumped off the summon, the rider must use one attack turn (dice roll) to jump back on.
*Increase constitution by 100%.
*Increase chakra by 100%.
*Increase strength by 100%.
*Increase summoning cp cost by 100%.

If you want summons to be useful as you move up in rank and levels, there are various ways this can be done. You can either create a number of characters of various fixed levels that you summon separately depending on the level you require. Or, if you have a unique character summon, you can have it approved gradually for various levels of its development. This way, you can get the same summon you developed your character with and have him get stronger as you meet requirements for summoning higher level summons. There are technically no limits to the number of characters a summoning contract can hold but we ask you to remain reasonable as not to swamp the approvals forum with useless characters.

Important note: Only make summons your character will presently be able use. Making Kage ranked summons when your character is still an academy student is pointless and slows down the approvals forum for nothing. When you get to a higher rank, you will then be able to get new ones approved again that will be added to the contract.

III. Techniques and jutsus

Keep in mind that jutsus here is meant in its large definition, meaning that it can be ninjutsu, taijutsu, genjutsu, fuuinjutsu, etc. There are two types of jutsus that can be integrated to a summoning contract: Jutsus only your summons can use and jutsus the user can use. Make sure that you identify which are which when you ask for a summoning contract to be approved.

1. Jutsus that can only be used by the summons.

This goes without saying. Depending on the nature of the summon they will obviously be able to do things that you won't. That's why you summon them after all!

2. Jutsus that can be learned by the user.

If you know a bit about Naruto you've most likely seen various of those: Orochimaru summoning snakes from his sleeves, using a replacement technique in which he sheds his skin etc. Even though these can be learned by shinobis, they cannot be copied by or taught to people who have not signed the contract.

All jutsus must be posted in the following format and approved before they can be used :

Jutsu name
Description of Jutsu:
Summoning Contract: Name of your summoning contract
Cp Cost:
Damage:
Requirements:
Training:
Special:

All jutsus submitted for summoning contracts are subject to the same requirements as regular jutsus. Please refer to the specific thread explaining these for more information.

Using the Summoning Technique

The use of the summoning jutsu will be explained under 7 aspects:

I - Summoning level restrictions
II - Chakra cost
III - Simultaneous summoning
IV - Posting in combat situation
V - Fighting with summons
VI - Unsummoning
VII - Summon resting

When you are done with all of these you should know all there is to know about summoning and summoning contracts and WotN! Have fun!

I - Summoning level restrictions

Restrictions aren't fun but luckily, there aren't that many. In fact, there is one restriction by summon types.

Objects: A shinobi cannot summon an object that is ranked higher than his ninja level. Basically, a genin cannot summon a chuunin level object, a chuunin cannot summon a Jounin level object, and so on.

Creature: The level of summon a user can call to his location is determined by the following rule:

Max level summon = [user's level] + [1 per 10 levels in Chakra control]

This way if a character is level 15 and has 22 Chakra control, he can summon a creature of a level of 15 + 2 = 17.

II - Chakra cost

The amount chakra required for a summoning is determined by the power of the object or creature the user wishes to transport to his location. The stronger a summon is, the more intense its bond will be to its realm and the harder it will be for a user to bring it to his. Specific chakra costs will be determined differently depending on the nature of your summon.

1. Objects

For objects, the Cp will be determined by its rank. There are basically six ranks of objects that can be called upon for distinct chakra costs:

Rank 1 (Genin level): 50 cp
Rank 2 (Chuunin level): 100 cp
Rank 3 (ANBU level): 200 cp
Rank 4 (Jounin level): 300 cp
Rank 5 (Elite Corps level): 400 cp
Rank 6 (Kage level): 600 cp

Keep in mind that there could possibly be intermediate ranks to these and especially higher ranks if your summon is ridiculously powerful. Discretion on what level a summon should be for items will be left to the person approving it based on its power.

2. Individuals

For individuals, the cp cost for summoning is directly proportionate to its level:

Cp cost = [Summon's level] x 10 cp

The equation is very simple. This means that if the creature you are trying to summon is level 7, cost will be 70 cp. If it is 65, it will be 650 cp.

III - Simultaneous summoning

It is possible for a user to summon as many creature or objects as he wishes, as long as he can pay the necessary chakra cost of course. However, summoning them simultaneously (in the same attack turn) requires higher chakra control.

Max number of simultaneous summons = 1 per 15 levels in chakra control

This way you probably understand that a character who has 15 levels in chakra control can call forth 1 summon at a time, 30 -> 2, 45 -> 3, and so on.

IV - Posting in combat situations

Can be a bit basic but this remains relevant nonetheless. When your character is in the heat of battle (or in a RP situation that requires you know of the summon's stats), post it in the following format:

Kuchiyose no Jutsu (Summoning Technique)
The user uses his blood to summon an object or creature to which he has been bound through a summoning contract.
Contract name: Name of your summoning contract
Summon: Summon's name
Cp cost:

This form is concise, does not clog up the page where the battle is held uselessly and allows quick access to those who would like to check out your summon's stats.

V - Fighting with summons

Summons fight as independant characters under your orders. For added interactions, you may ask another player to RP your summon. However, that is not a requirement!

VI - Unsummoning

When a summon is in deep trouble or badly hurt or damaged, it may be wise to return it to its own land to recuperate because summons can die or break in combat. This act is called unsummoning and can be done either by the summon itself if able or the user.

If the unsummoning takes place during combat, it is considered a C-Rank jutsu and therefore takes up to 3 of the user's attack turns or a full round, whichever is less. It does not, however, require any chakra to perform.

VII - Resting

Like all living beings, creature summons need to rest in order to get back to full strength after a battle. Weapons and objects also have to return to their lands for repair if they have been damaged in combat.

The rule is that it takes on full RP day for a summon to recover all of its strength, hp and chakra. If it is resummoned in the same day, it will carry over its damage from its previous fight. Don't over exert your summons!

Approved contracts

You will find here a list of the currently approved summoning contracts listed by the village where they can currently be found. The names of the characters who own the contracts and the user who have had it approved are identified next to them. If that user is still active, you must get his permission for your character to take part in this contract.

Leaf (Konohagakure no Sato)
-

Sand (Sunagakure no Sato)
-

Cloud (Kumogakure no Sato)
-

Mist (Kirigakure no Sato)
- Cool Springs Tortoises

Stone (Iwagakure no Sato)
-

Grass (Kusagakure no Sato)
-

Sound (Otogakure no Sato)
- Blood Marsh Snakes

Rain (Amegakure no Sato)
-

Waterfall (Takigakure no Sato)
-

Other
- Carnivorous Plants (Owned By: Nura Tai)

Note: All contracts approved under the previous systems will have to be reviewed by members of the crew before they can be added to this list. You do not, however, have to post them in the Clans, Jutsus, Weapons and Bloodlines subforum. Simply update it in conformity with the rules mentioned above and they will be restored. Also if someone wishes, summons that had been saved for clans under previous sytems do no have to be the same for this one. Given the fact that the system has changed significantly, people may decide to go into different directions for their clan summons.
