Terreis padded along the winding path that would eventually lead her to the Queen's den. It was the longer route to take but there were many things on her mind right now so she had decided to skip the shorter way to visit Penthesilea. Iosef's news was still fresh in her mind and she couldn't believe it. Had it really been that long since her last visit that her dear little brother had managed to not only be claimed by a sister of the pack but to also become a father. Now granted it would be a while before those pups would arrive, but honestly it was nonetheless surprising. She really needed to make more of an effort to get up here more often if these kinds of surprises would be waiting for her. However, that was not the only thing on her mind as she walked. Varia had returned recently as well. The sister whom she cared deeply about but also somewhat resented for ever forcing her to leave Iosef behind those many months ago.
Speaking of Varia, Terreis had realized she had picked up a shadow a little ways back but had yet to acknowledge it. Even being distracted by so many thoughts she had been able to pick up on the most subtle of sounds of her sister following her. "I know you are there Varia." She finally said but continued on forward as if she didn't realize she was being followed. Terreis could only hope that their reunion would be a good one as she was not longer in top shape as she had once been.

With warriors grace Varia stepped from behind the bushes and greet her sister. A sneer crossed her maw, taking in Terreis' frame. It was certainly not in top condition but still in shape none the less. "You smell of males." She snarled stepping forward quietly. "I thought you had been raised better than to spend time with those worthless dogs." Never had Varia expected Terreis to leave the sisters, let alone find a loving mate. Oh she was certain that Terreis would one day want pups of her own, most females did, however the thought of an actual mate to love and live with was sickening. Mother had not had such a male, she merely sought out what she had needed and left him after the deed was done.
The heavy scent of males on Terreis was sickening. It was as bad as when she was forced to walk past the dens of the slaves. Perhaps it was time to have another talk with the Queen, to convince her to rid the pack of those wretched beasts once and for all. "I do hope you are returning to us, as I would hate to see you not make it back to your new pack."

Terreis could help but let a growl rumble at that comment. "It is the smell of my mate and family!" Standing tall and proud Terreis would not allow Varia to mock her choices now. They were made well before she knew that Varia still lived, or Iosef for that matter, and just because Varia was back it did not mean that Terreis would turn her back on that new life. Granted she was still not completely used to that new life, but she was getting there. There were times when she craved to come back to the sisters and take up the title of Warrior again, to protect the Queen and nothing else.
"You dare threaten me sister? Just because I have a family now that negates any blood we have between us?" There was a fight coming, Terreis knew that, and she was far from her best fighting condition. Varia wouldn't kill her, of that she was mostly certain, but it was an insult that her sister would do such a thing over nothing.

"You speak with such pride about a foolish thing. The sisters do not and will never need a mate and family." She took another step forward, preparing herself to show her sister the err of her ways through force. "Our blood ties us to this pack sister, something you have turned your back on. You have abandoned your Queen, and your duties!"
Enough talk, it was time for action. Varia sprang forward teeth bared. Terreis would rue the day she ever abandoned the pack and it's beliefs. Coming at Terreis was such speed she was certain her sister would not be able to move nor fully defend herself. Teeth snapped at her neck and claws raked towards shoulder and abdomen.

"You will never be happy in life Varia." But that was all she had time to say before Varia launched her attack. Terreis was ready for the most part, she knew it was coming, how and when was another matter. And now the time had come. Preparing herself for the hit Terreis stayed partial rigid, but relaxed enough that she would completely recoil from the hit. Back stepping a few time Terreis did her best to put some distance between her and Varia's snapping jaws. Claws dug in but did not take hold of the flesh, merely ripping the fur from it's place.
Teeth came so close to her face that Terreis could have swore she felt them touch her maw. Part of her didn't want to fight back, to let Varia kick her a** just to prove some useless point, but that would only prove Varia right, no she had to fight, not only to prove herself but to be able to walk away from this. When Varia's weight made contact with her Terreis pushed back with all her weight, and snapped at her legs. It was a weak move, but she had no other option but to run away and that was no option as Varia would hunt her down.

Pathetic, that's what it was. Terreis no longer had the heart of a warrior, oh sure she fought back but with little spirit. Had this been a true battle Terreis would be dead by now, for lack of focus. "Happiness is but a weakness!" A weakness that had clearly taken hold of Terreis as she half heartedly pushed back. Even the bite aimed to her leg was slow and not with anger behind it but more desperation. It was clear that Terreis did not wish to fight back, stupid, so stupid.
Pulling her leg out of range with little effort. "You have grown weak sister." Varia slammed her head forward, intent on knocking Terreis down, she too was only putting half of an effort it, it was a shame really Varia hated not given 100% in a fight, but that one small shred of love for her sister prevented her from just biting down on her neck and snuffing the life out of her. Instead Varia settled for knocking Terreis down, and as she fell grabbed a foreleg and used her teeth to shred the flesh and muscles.

Terreis realized her fault far too late, she was holding back when she shouldn't be. Varia would not hold back, perhaps a little bit, but not completely. Now Terreis was but at the mercy of her sisters rage, anything that had gone wrong in pack would be taken out on her. Sadly she was far too distracted by these thoughts, which was by far her greatest downfall at this moment, to truly fight back. Never had she thought her sister would ever attack her, sure they had sparred countless times in practice, but this was real, not a way to hone skills but to conquer an enemy. Terreis was that enemy today.
Bowled over by Varia's simple move Terreis was on her way to the ground when a sharp pain gripped her leg. Teeth lashed through flesh nearly effortlessly, the dug deep tearing into muscles. "Varia!" Terreis cried out in pain. She could not pull her leg away for it would only ripe the wounds deeper and wider. She was at Varia's mercy which was honestly never a good thing. No sister would dare stop this either, unless they wanted to be maimed by Varia as well.

Iosef had been on his way back to his den when he heard the sounds of fighting. He paused, a moment, brow furrowed, ears cocked toward the noise. That was no sparring or playful battle...it was a real fight, and close.
Fur stood on end, and that characteristic trembling caught in his legs. What should he do? Should he run and find one of the sisters? He certainly would be worthless in a fight...
...Just as he was considering this possibility, he froze, catching a whiff of familiar scent on the air, and his eyes widened in horror. No, that couldn't be....
Against his better judgment, barely realizing what he was even doing, Iosef bolted toward the sounds of battle, bursting through the underbrush. "TERREIS!" He yelped, charging forward, for the moment not even thinking of what he was doing. "...Varia?! What are you doing?"
His eyes flashed cold and a wave of anger built in his chest and broke free with a snarl. He couldn't interfere...he couldn't step into the middle of this, it would be insubordination and if Varia didn't kill him he would be in terrible trouble for attacking a warrior...but...
He slowed up, fighting the suicidal urge to dive into the fray. Now, he thought, would be a wonderful time for Cleite to still be shadowing his work.

Varia would never kill Terreis, not in a thousand years. But maim her, maker her lame, it was certainly a possibility. She had already done a fine job on that leg and it would take a very long time to heal, if it ever did at all. In fact now that Varia had gotten a good deal of her frustration out she was ready to let Terreis go, to limp back to that mate of hers - but then he showed up. Releasing her grip on Terreis' leg Varia spun around to face that so-called brother of her. "Why you worthless whelp! How dare you interfere! I shall end you life now."
Varia moved quickly towards Iosef, who had so rudely interrupted her sisters punishment. She would at last rid the pack of an extra body that did nothing but cause the sisters grief. It would start with Iosef, and then she would pick off all the other worthless bastards until she had rid the pack completely of their presence.

The pain was excruciating, but Terreis could for the most part push it to the back of her mind. In all her years of training she had learned how to continue to fight no matter the injuries or pain, but to become victorious in battle no matter the cost. She had noticed a lessening in Varia's attacks, she was ending it, just as she had begun it. But then that voice reached her ears, and her heart and mind sprung into action. "Iosef no!" Terreis had to protect her brother, injuries would not hold her back. Iosef was in no fighter and would never stop Varia in her rage.
Ignoring the pain that coursed her body, Terreis got to her paws. Jumping forward Terreis tackled Varia to the ground, biting hard into her hind quarters. Perhaps she could not completely stop her from attacking Iosef, but at the very minimum Terreis could give him a good head start if he was smart and ran away right now. Blood poured from her leg but the most important thing to her now was to put a stop to Varia's actions.

Well, s**t.
He hadn't thought this through very well. Iosef, whose head was usually so clear in a crisis, was suddenly completely blank as to what he should do. He took a tentative step forward, knowing he should run, but something in him held him back. Rage, perhaps, at Varia's abuses.
Despite himself, he missed Alkaia.
Seraphin was no warrior, just like him. As much as she had to offer to him -- like a family -- she would never protect him the way Alkaia did, and it forced him to realize he would have to learn to protect himself, and his family. The Sisters could keep him safe from the world outside...but who would keep him safe from the Sisters?
He growled, holding his ground for the briefest of moments, but he knew that Terreis had more time than he did -- although not much, if she kept bleeding that way. "Varia...all the pain you've inflicted to this world...it will all come back to you in the end," he muttered, coldly. The gears in his mind were already spinning. But first, he would need to neutralize this situation.
And then, with a burst of speed like a jack rabbit, he ran, blowing past the siblings. If there was one thing Iosef could do, it was run; it was the natural side-effect of being a worthless fighter, and his spring-like muscles were long acquainted with hare-hunting and bird-chasing. He wasn't so far from the Queen's den; he could cover the distance easily enough.
And if Varia chose to follow him...all the better. It would make it easier for Penthesilea to find her.
Hoping desperately that the Queen was at home, he began calling out for her as soon as he came within range.

The fool was challenging her? It was clear that stupidity did run in the male gene after all. Iosef couldn't fight off a swarm of insects let along one of the sisters. But if he was willing to sacrifice himself then so be it, it would not be a very good kill, but a kill none the less. What she did not expect was Terreis to use force in order to stop her from doing so. Growling as her sisters teeth dug into the flesh of her hind quarters Varia for a moment let her stop the attack on Iosef, for she knew it would happen no matter what.
"Let me go Terreis or I will rip apart your other leg." Varia idly told her sister as Iosef ran off. And now her kill had become a hunt. Very well then. When Terreis finally, somewhat reluctantly, let lose her hold on Varia, the head warrior slipped away and took chase.
It did not take her long to realize just what Iosef was doing. He was leading her towards the Queen's den. Did he honestly think that Penthesilea would save him from a sound lashing? Varia was at Iosef's heels now, as they were nearly at the den area.

Terreis did what she could, but with her leg wound she could only truly restrain her so much. At least Iosef was smart enough to run away, though he could have done without that comment of his. She had no choice but to let Varia go, so she removed her teeth from Varia's flesh and watched her sister run off as well. "Run Iosef!" She yelled before struggled to her paws.
Blood continued to flow form her wounds, though less than it had before, but it would be a long walk back to the dens where Iosef and Varia were headed. But through raw determination, strength and perhaps a bit of stubbornness Terreis was able to trot quick quickly after her two siblings. Pain raked her body each time she put even a small amount of weight on her leg.
If she could just get to the dens, then she could have her wound taken after and make sure Iosef was still safe. So Terreis trudged on, as fast as she could, which was actually quite a good pace given her injuries. Ahead she could hear Iosef's cries for the Queen, they were panicked but she could tell that so far Varia had not caught up with him.

As Iosef had hoped Penthesilea was relatively close to her den when she heard his cries. To have a slave running about the pack lands yelling frantically for her was never a good sign. Was there an invading pack? Had one of the pups been badly injured? Turning towards the direction of the yelling, moving at a quick trot. It didn't take long for Iosef to be spotted coming out of the trees. "Iosef what is going on?"
Varia was not far behind Iosef, a hint of blood on her maw, and her eyes were intently staring down Iosef. The bad blood between these two siblings had gone on long enough and Penthesilea was ready to put it to an end. "Varia!" Her voice held an overwhelming air of command to it. "Hold your attacks." Varia was far too loyal to her to ever disobey a direct order, certainly she would be angered at the Queen's words but that could be dealt with later.
Before she could say anything or ask any questions Penthesilea spotted a third body coming through the trees, though this one moved much slower than the first two. It took but a few seconds to realize that this third was Terreis, and another moment longer to discover that she was quite badly injured. Immediately she moved towards her injured sister, quickly passing Iosef and Varia. "Sister." The wound on her leg was bad, and she would need to tend to it shortly, but first the Queen needed to find out what had happened. Lending her weight on Terreis' injured side to lesson the burden upon Terreis. "What has happened? Let us get you to the dens where you can lie down and I can look at that wound."
Eyes ticked to the other two siblings but she remained quiet for now, concerned first with getting Terreis a clean and safe place to lay down.

Iosef fell immediately to a cowering position of deference in the presence of his queen, knowing that -- for now -- she would neutralize this situation. He would have to do something more dramatic in the long-term, of course, but there was time for that later.
He said nothing, waiting for his siblings to speak, but cast a furtive glare sidelong at Varia -- a cold, empty-eyed look -- before staring back at his paws. His limbs trembled. Do it, he thought, dangerously. Do it. Attack me unprovoked in front of the queen. I dare you.
